Award Winning World Music Artist Paul Adams To Release Tenth Album “Imaginings”

Chicago, IL – Paul Adams has never been easy to pigeonhole. But, with over 42 million streams on Pandora, there seems to be something that is getting through to the people despite lack of label affiliation. His music is widely scoped and pushes beyond the usual boundaries. Besides music and poetry, he is also a luthier and has made instruments for a number of acclaimed musicians including Daryl Hall, members of Stevie Wonder’s band and others.

“There is genre-bending, and then there is Imaginings. On the latter, the genre isn’t bent, it’s intertwined and intermixed and spun out into a glorious multi-hued comforting quilt of musical goodness. It may sound cliché but music is the universal language and Paul Adams is one of its great speakers.” – Bill Binkelman, Zone Music Reporter

In September 2015 Adams releases his tenth album IMAGININGS, a unique eclectic blend of New Age and World music with ex Ray Charles arranger/ trumpet soloist David Hoffman, bansuri player Pravin Godkhindi from India, and Australia’s Elizabeth Geyer. The album was recorded when Elizabeth was here completing her 4th album The Bridge which he was co- producing. “The goal was to focus on feeling.”. The result is completely beyond what I expected. With Paul’s collection of exotic instruments, some of which he made himself – there is a sense of cool and movement, established and rooted in a slight sense of mysticism and humor that reflects his varied musical interests.

Says Paul, “Magic was the prime vibe here. Finding Pravin on You Tube, a fascination with each other’s music, and of course having David Hoffman involved. There were just so many special moments. It felt so obvious that there was this ‘meant to be’ vibe going on throughout. Direction was secondary and improvising what came naturally was the order of the day. When Elizabeth sat at the piano and played along with my collection of exotic instruments, it was a natural blending that just worked. It was a flow. Connection. Well … magic I guess.”

In meeting Pravin, each expressed an interest in working with the other. It was somewhat of a risk as they met under circumstances that of course seem significant in this digital age. “I knew he had the chops, he was amazing. His playing was so beautiful and fluid. I sent him tracks and he recorded between his touring with his fusion band,” Paul explains. Upon receiving his contribution, it turned out to be beyond perfect with what Elizabeth and Paul had already done. “David Hoffman was invited over and given direction only of mood. This fusion of ideas and instruments from a wide variety of cultures worked miraculously. Dave added a slow essence of cool to the exotic direction of the album.” These elements of jazz (interestingly, although primarily a pianist here, in Australia Elizabeth was trained as a Jazz trumpet player), eastern and western Indian cultures, and influences from Paul’s background in Ethnomusicology lead to this incredible blend.

Says Paul, “It’s a wonderful and difficult world and I would like to think that the variety of musical cultures expressed here can metaphorically represent what is needed in the world today – a coming together of ideas and beliefs that can work together harmoniously. This was a prime life experience for me. The fact that this happened, with this result, seems no accident. There is order to the universe.”

“Imaginings” is available 9/1/15 at all digital outlets such as iTunes, Amazon, CDBaby as well as various retail outlets and of course, from Paul’s website at http://www.pauladams.org. Phone 309 688 0267

Prog Metal Band Odin’s Court Launch Crowd Sourcing Campaign to Release Two Albums

Prog Metal Band Odin’s Court Launch Crowd Sourcing Campaign to Release Two Albums

Progressive Metal for fans of Pink Floyd, Dream Theater, Devin Townsend, Porcupine Tree, Iron Maiden, King’s X, Metallica, HIM, and Journey, Enchant, Queen

Baltimore, MD – USA based progressive rock and metal band Odin’s Court’s announced a crowd sourcing campaign to release 2 albums: Deathanity (R3) and Turtles All the Way Down Vol, II. Deathanity (R3) is a “reboot” of the original ProgRock Records album released in 2008, consisting of a remix (original recording), new recording (e.g., vocals), and a re-master. Turtles All the Way Down, Vol. II continues the concept started in 2015’s album by the same name.

Rewards for campaign backers include CDs, digital releases, shirts, signed drum heads, vinyl banners, coasters, picks, an invitation to a listening party, and more. Samples and more details may be found at the following link: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/odinscourt/odins-court-deathanity-reboot-and-turtles-ii

By launching this crowd sourcing campaign, the band wishes to continue the momentum gained from the positive press received on their latest album Turtles All the Way Down (2015):

“Odin’s Court has quietly become one of the best bands in the American Progressive Rock scene, and this album is a perfect example of why that is the case.” – Hard Rock Haven

“Terrific melodic prog/metal that gets better with every listen!” – USA Progressive Music

“The strengths are undoubtedly the singing, orchestration, and the work on the guitars. It is highly recommended listening!” – MusicInBelguim.Net

Band leader Matt Brookins commented on the decision to revisit Deathanity: “This was an important album to the band – we worked hard independently, and then shopped it to labels. It was picked up by ProgRock Records (2008), and to date remains our best selling and most popular release. While we were, and still are, proud of what we did, there are some factors that made us want to revisit and improve the quality of the album…mainly, the addition of Dimetrius LaFavors (lead vocals), but also my improvements as an engineer and producer. Additionally, the concept of the album is becoming increasingly important in today’s world, so hopefully we will reach even more ears with this re-release. Stylistically, this album is heavy, progressive, and artsy.”

Deathanity was well received when originally released:

“There’s wonderful variety from section to section, the instrumentation and the songwriting are clearly the album’s strengths.” – Sea of Tranquility

“The sound of the group is quite personal with a lot of quality, and fantastic production for their music, very pleasant to the ear, nothing strident, with guitars and smooth refining where all instruments are in a place where you can distinguish each of them with complete ease.” – Hall of Metal

“Matt Brookins has succeeded in serving a fantastic album to the inclined listener. From the first minute until the last there is insanely much to discover, and the protagonists are true masters of their instruments.” – Rock Times

Turtles All the Way Down, Vol. II continues where the last album left off, exploring the concept of infinite regression and individuals’ methods of finding their place and coping in such a vast universe. Brookins comments: “The creation of 2015’s album was therapeutic to me. I was so enthusiastic about the concept, that I ended up writing two albums worth of music and lyrics. While we discussed putting out a double album, our financial situation and time constraints prohibited it at the time. Rather than letting these ‘extra’ songs go unheard, we thought it would be nice to complete them. While some songs didn’t make the final cut, many did – and I wrote some new ones as well. We also have a couple of alternate versions of songs from the 2015 album. Stylistically, this album strikes me as a bit AOR with a hard edge.”

Odin’s Court:
Matt Brookins – Guitarist, Keyboardist, Vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist
Rick Pierpont – Guitarist and Backing Vocalist
Dimetrius LaFavors – Vocalist
Gary Raub – Drummer, Percussionist, and Backing Vocalist
Jason Pierpont – Bassist

UK Blues Guitarist Tom Killner To Release Eagerly Anticipated Debut Album “Hard Road”

UK Blues Guitarist Tom Killner To Release Eagerly Anticipated Debut Album “Hard Road”

Los Angeles – One of the hottest young blues guitarists to emerge from the UK, Tom Killner, will be releasing his debut album “Hard Road” on September 4, 2015 on Cleopatra Blues in the US. Born in Rotherham UK, Killner was deemed a child prodigy of six-string blues by age 9, formed his first band a year later, and now at 19 his debut release contains a smoking hot collection of covers and originals! The album is currently at number 6 in the Amazon UK blues Hot releases charts!

Says Tom, , “It’s been a long wait for my fans for me to release an album. Over the last two years they have asked when I would be bringing my album out, so when the offer came along from Cleopatra Records to make this album I felt greatly honored and pleased to be one of their artists, alongside the massive names on their label.

“This album is my first and it’s really about the struggle, knockbacks and pain, and how you get back up and fight some more for what it takes to finally get there. That’s why I decided to go with ‘Hard Road’ as the title track. Along with the other tracks there’s love songs, soul and good old rock in there about my journey so far. There is something for everyone.

“I really enjoyed working on this album. There’s material here that I would not usually play. It really pushed me out of my comfort zone to recreate the covers and make them mine as well as bringing my songs to life and getting them down after playing them for a few years on the road.”

When you get right down to it… to the heart of what the blues are all about… Eric Clapton hit the nail on the head. “It was one man and his guitar versus the world,” he said. “It was one guy who was completely alone and had no options, no alternatives other than just to sing and play to ease his pains.” It doesn’t matter how the music has changed and charged its way around the world in the years since the first bluesmen arose a century back in the American south. It doesn’t matter how volume and fusion and international superstardom have shaped and shifted things around. The blues that Clapton plays today mean the same thing that Howlin’ Wolf was playing in the fifties, and Son House was playing in the thirties, and they’re the same as Tom Killner is playing today.

The sound may change, and the delivery, too. But the blues will always be the blues. Tom Killner understood that before he even discovered that the music had a name.

Says Tom, “I was originally drawn to the blues because nothing else really grabbed me. My friends all listened to metal and pop, but I’ve never been one for following trends in music. The blues I love because of the raw power, and because of what it could make me feel. No other music did that for me.”

The Tom Killner Band was formed in February 2012, a tight trio in the classic blues format of guitar (Tom), bass (Oliver Tallent) and drums (Jake Ashton). It was a line-up that worked for Cream, that worked for Taste, and worked for the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Now it’s working for the Tom Killner Band, as they set up the no-holds-barred barrage that hit that year’s Great British Blues Festival like a levee giving way, and has swamped every other stage the band has played on… from the vastness of blues festivals in Wakefield and Hebden Bridge (two years running, voted the UK’s best blues event), to theaters and clubs around the country.

“I try to add as much energy to the live show as I can each night,” explains Tom. “No two shows are the same, and no song is played the same. Every night, I try and mix as many influences in as possible – Blues, Soul, Southern Rock, Funk… and it seems to be keeping everyone happy!”

Their fame continued to spread. The Tom Killner Band opened for Danny Bryant, and were rewarded with the headliner’s own admiration – “an excellent, incredible guitarist.”

Endorsements from Fret-King and Vintage Guitar sent the band’s stock soaring even higher; while their first EP, “Complicated”, became a BBC radio favorite. And finally, inevitably, the Tom Killner Band’s acclaim reached across the ocean, to the Los Angeles headquarters of Cleopatra Records.
Now, much to the excitement of blues music aficionados worldwide, the Tom Killner Band are releasing their debut album, knowing that it is already one of the most eagerly anticipated blues releases of the year.

“Jim Morrison once said ‘show me the way to the next whiskey bar’, I’d like to think what he might of heard in there would of resembled ‘Hard Road’ by Tom Killner. The album is a superb retro sounding blues rock album with a little bit of southern influence, interspersed with some passionate playing from Tom and packed with a whole lot of soul.” – Adam Kennedy, National Rock Review

“This CD is a must for all avid Blues and Blues./Rock fans-trust me on this.” – Phill Penny Blues Show Radio Trent

Prog Ensemble The Aaron Clift Experiment To Release Highly Anticipated Concept Album “Outer Light, Inner Darkness”

Prog Ensemble The Aaron Clift Experiment To Release Highly Anticipated Concept Album “Outer Light, Inner Darkness”

Austin, TX – One of the most eagerly awaited Prog albums of 2015 will be released in September by The Aaron Clift Experiment! Titled “Outer Light, Inner Darkness”, this is the second CD by the Austin ensemble and marks a musical plateau for the group with its intricate compositions, complex arrangements and virtuosic performances!

Band leader, Aaron explains, “ ‘Outer Light, Inner Darkness’ is a concept album about duality: light vs. darkness, individual vs. group, hope vs. despair, etc. Songs in the first half of the album detail the conflict between these opposing forces, while the songs in second half of the album are a journey toward reconciling the extremes. The album culminates with ‘Bathed in Moonlight,’ a song about how humanity can learn to embrace its outer light and inner darkness and become one with both sides of its nature.”

Just as scientists conduct experiments by using their knowledge to explore the unknown, The Aaron Clift Experiment combines elements of classic and cutting-edge music into an innovative whole. The band’s unique songs draw from a wide range of influences – from classic progressive rock acts like Genesis, Pink Floyd, and Rush to modern groups like Porcupine Tree and Opeth to classical and jazz composers like Beethoven, Schubert, and John Coltrane. Aside from its diversity, The Aaron Clift Experiment is dedicated to producing soulful, powerful music and an intense live show.

In 2012, the band released its critically acclaimed debut album, “Lonely Hills,” to rave reviews from both fans and the music press and was named one of the best unsigned bands of 2013 by Prog Magazine.

With the release of the band’s second album, “Outer Light, Inner Darkness” in September 2015, The Aaron Clift Experiment continues to lead the way in fusing the sophistication and depth of classical music with the passion and raw power of rock and roll. What began as an idea of how to create music has now blossomed into a full-fledged experiment. The band invites you to join them in this experiment as they embark on their new path.

Says Aaron, “Although The Aaron Clift Experiment started as my solo project, ‘Outer Light, Inner Darkness’ marks the birth of ACE as a full-fledged band. Unlike the first album, in which I wrote all the songs and arrangements, the songwriting and arranging process for the second album was a largely collaborative process, with all of the band members contributing elements to the sound that makes the album our most diverse to date. One of the fun challenges of co-writing between me and my band mates is that we all have very distinct songwriting styles and music preferences. As a result, we all pushed each other to write outside of our comfort zones. Sometimes this could be disorienting process, but in the end, it helped us write our strongest songs to date. The song, ‘Aoide, Goddess of Song,’ was in a way my commentary on what it can be like to come up with brand new music.”

Here’s what the press has raved about The Aaron Clift Experiment:

“The Aaron Clift Experiment strikes a nerve right away . . . pleasing as well as entertaining for the ears and mind, a true prog experience.” – Closet Concert Arena

“There is a journey to be taken while listening to The Aaron Clift Experiment’s songs, and for me that is one of the most appealing aspects of progressive music.” – Dr. Music’s Weekly Checkup

“The Aaron Clift Experiment has great melodies. . .the music is tight and controlled.” – Austin Mix Tape

Featuring:
Aaron Clift – Vocals/Keyboards
Eric Gutierrez – Guitar
Joe Resnick – Drums
Devin North – Bass

In support of the new CD release, The Aaron Clift Experiment is currently filming a music video for the album’s lead single, “Kissed by the Sun.” The video will debut in late August to coincide with their August 27 album release show in Austin. Next year, they’re looking to play some progressive rock festivals, particularly in Europe.

Fischer’s Flicker Releases Second Album “Fornever and Never”

Fischer’s Flicker Releases Second Album “Fornever and Never”

Chicago, IL – From the first moment of “Black Mariah,” the lead-off track to the sophomore LP from Fischer’s Flicker titled “Fornever and Never”, it’s clear that bandleader Scott Fischer is up to something interesting. The grandiose piano, the nimble guitars, the pounding drums – it sounds a bit like a throwback to 70’s pop excess. Once the vocals come in, Fischer’s decidedly modern pop sensibilities pull everything together in an unexpected way.

If “Black Mariah” is an impressive opening statement, the second track, “Dead To Me”, is the unmistakable sound of a band winning you over. The track’s syncopated bounce and Fischer’s languid drawl show a genuine love for the piano men of yore, simultaneously creating something as familiar as it is fresh. “Halo of Flies” opens with an eerie, dissonant guitar riff followed by downright pummeling guitars. The Alice Cooper-penned rocker blooms with droning bass, psychedelic guitar effects and Fischer’s voice taking on a sneer that is undeniably faithful to the source.

“Mrs. Rogers (& the Land of Make-Believe)” is an unnerving whirling dervish with Middle Eastern roots, “Dancin’ Girl” is a smooth R&B jam, complete with a sultry guitar solo, and the title track shows off pianistic prowess before exploding into a Bat Out Of Hell-styled multi-movement epic.

But somehow – despite the completion of such an ambitious album, one showing a depth and range of musicality most artists will never achieve – Fischer still isn’t satisfied. “We’re actually already halfway complete with the album that will come out next, and we’re aiming to have that one released within 12 months,” he said.

Here’s what the press have raved about Fischer’s Flicker:

“In a day and age of minimalist attitudes, Fischer strives to balance the music with musical theatrics and avant-garde mindset hearkening back to the prog rock giants of the ’70s” – AntiMusic.com

“This is quite an entertaining and strong release” – Music Street Journal

“Sounds like a contemporary version of The Band, with a bit of Leon Russell and maybe Wilco thrown in. Scott Fischer has an endearingly Rick Danko styled voice, and a strong sense of melody.” – Musoscribe

“Smart orchestrations, wonderful piano themes & classy melodies.” – Grande Rock

Scott Fischer’s brain is like a vast musical amusement park and he wants to take us all on a thrilling ride. Fischer’s Flicker is the latest brainchild of Fischer, a Chicago native, and marks the next step in a musical evolution that began over 15 years ago. While Fischer’s Flicker’s debut album, “Katmandon’t” is more mature sounding than Fischer’s previous efforts, it stays true to the core of Fischer’s music with big melodies and ambitious composition. Fischer’s earlier projects include Deja Voo Doo and it’s ambitious release “Carpe P.M.: Honor Comes Only After Humility”. Notably, Deja Voo Doo performed live at Zappening 2000 (a tribute festival to Frank Zappa). After several years of writing and performing, Deja Voo Doo evolved into Powderhouse and then into Babaganoo. After a hiatus, during which Fischer honed his skills while touring on the corporate/cover band circuit which included a stint in The Virgin Islands and large profile shows at Summerfest and Vince Lombardi Awards, Fischer returned to his passion for original composition and formed Fischer’s Flicker. The band is comprised of Deja Voo Doo alumni including Mario Licciardi and Tim Kubiak on guitar, Turan Yon on bass and Tim Gavin on drums.

Scott explains, “I write about what I’m going through, and I’ve experienced a heck of a lot between ‘Katmandon’t’ and ‘Fornever and Never’. The material, overall, is more challenging and I feel that, while it’s not a concept album, there is a definite journey involved.”

Fischer’s Flicker released “Fornever and Never” on August 15, 2015

Hawkwind Co-Founder Nik Turner Pilots A New Video From His Groundbreaking New Album Space Fusion Odyssey!

Los Angeles, CA – “I have traveled far from another place…come to learn from your race…” Nik Turner intones at the outset of “Adjust The Future,” the lead off track from his forthcoming space-rock/jazz-fusion magnum opus Space Fusion Odyssey, scheduled for launch on October 16. The track, like the album as a whole, features Turner’s complex, jazzy improvisations on saxophone with support provided by an insanely talented and diverse group of musicians including Steve Hillage and Gilli Smyth of ‘70s prog legends Gong as well as Chris Poland of metal giant Megadeth and Jürgen Engler of German industrial band Die Krupps. The video mixes footage of Turner with some mindblowing experimental video manipulations that harken back to the psychedelic backdrops Turner’s former band Hawkwind would frequently perform in front of.

Check out the video for “Adjust The Future” here:

Space Fusion Odyssey is without a doubt the most musically ambitious undertaking Turner has ever attempted, stretching his already prodigious saxophone and flute playing skills to create instrumental soundscapes that entrance, confound, and stimulate all at the same time! An incredible crew of fellow musicians, dubbed the Interplanetary Arkestra in a nod to the great Sun Ra, help bring Turner’s vision to life such as legendary jazz drummer Billy Cobham, Doors’ guitarist Robby Krieger, Steve Hillage of Gong, Soft Machine’s John Etheridge, Amon Düül II founder John Weinzierl and many more! The CD comes packaged in a special mini-LP gatefold with a 12-panel poster while the vinyl comes in a deluxe 12-panel poster fold-up jacket and a gorgeous starbust colored vinyl!

In addition, this year will see the publication of The Spirit Of Hawkwind 1969-1976, the definitive biography of Hawkwind’s early years as told through the eyes of Nik Turner and written by music historian Dave Thompson. The hardcover book contains 300 pages of rare and unseen photos, a comprehensive discography, and Nik’s 1975 US tour diary PLUS reproductions of the 1971 “Galactic Tarot” card deck (designed by celebrated graphic designer Barney Bubbles), the 1972 “Sonic Attack” 7” promo one-sided single in a cloth bag, and the 1971 “In Search Of Space” 6×9 20-page promotional booklet! Symphonic Rock Icons Renaissance To Tour The US Fall 2015!

For Immediate Release

Symphonic Rock Icons Renaissance To Tour The US Fall 2015!

Symphonic rock icons Renaissance featuring legendary singer Annie Haslam will be performing in the US in the Fall 2015! Responding to requests from fans, Renaissance will be performing “Song For All Seasons”, “Sounds Of the Sea” and “Northern Lights” along with favorite classics and debuting “Immortal Beloved” from their critically acclaimed “Symphony of Light” album on this tour.

Legendary keyboardist Patrick Moraz, best known for his work with YES and the Moody Blues, as well as his innovative solo career, will be making a special guest appearance with the band at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, NJ on October 9 and 10, 2015!

Renaissance is a band with a rich history unique unto themselves as progressive rock pioneers who rose from the ashes of the seminal UK rock band, The Yardbirds. Acclaimed for their unique blending of progressive rock with classical and symphonic influences, the band’s career has spanned forty plus years spearheaded by the 5 octave voice of Annie Haslam and the masterful songwriting skills of Michael Dunford. They are widely considered to be the band that most successfully and routinely utilized the sound of a full orchestra in their recordings.

In the early years Renaissance toured Europe extensively. It wasn’t long before influential progressive rock stations in the US, such as WNEW (NYC), WMMR (Philadelphia) and WHFS (Washington) were turning on America to Renaissance. Before too long the band started thrilling concertgoers on the world’s most distinguished stages, from Carnegie Hall in NYC with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, to the Royal Albert Hall in London with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Royal Chorale Society. In 1978 they had a top ten hit in the UK with ‘Northern Lights’, which has become a classic radio favorite, still demanding regular airplay to this day.

The band eventually disbanded in the late 1980’s at which time Annie Haslam launched a solo career. In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the original founding of Renaissance, Michael and Annie in 2009 decided to form a new touring band. More recently they have toured the UK, Belgium, Holland, Israel, Portugal, North America, Canada, Japan and South Korea and produced their first album in 13 years entitled ‘Symphony of Light’. The album is a testament to the unforgettable melodies that Michael Dunford infused into his work, Michael died prematurely in 2012.

Renaissance toured Europe this April, the first in over 35 years! They recorded the London Union Chapel show for a ‘live’ DVD to be released soon! The tour was very successful and the fans loved every minute!

The current personnel of Renaissance include: Annie Haslam lead vocals, Rave Tesar keyboards, Tom Brislin keyboards, Mark Lambert acoustic guitars, Leo Traversa bass guitar, and Frank Pagano drums.

Hollywood, CA – Los Angeles hard-rockers BULLETBOYS have just wrapped up final touches on their brand new music video for the single “Rollover.” Taken from their latest album ELEFANTÈ (June 9th release, Deadline/Cleopatra Records) the song helped drive the album to reach the Top 10 in the Metal radio charts and has been a crowd-pleaser during the band’s summer 2015 tour.

The “Rollover” music video features voluptuous Playboy model Ivy Ferguson and plays off the dichotomous relationship between the artist who’s married to his music while simultaneously trying to keep his best gal happy. The sparks start to fly during the band’s live performance as the music and the tempestuous relationship reaches a fever pitch – all captured brilliantly by Director Diego Negrete.

The BULLETBOYS are founding member Marq Torien (Vocals/Lead Guitar), Nick Rozz (Guitar), Chad MacDonald (Bass) and Shawn Duncan (Drums). Elefante – the band’s first studio album of original material since 2009 – was produced by Ryan Greene (Alice Cooper/Lita Ford/Cheap Trick/Usher) and Marq Torien and engineered by Matt Thorne (Trapt/Disturbed). The album was mastered in Nashville,TN by Anthony Focx (Miley Cyrus/Aerosmith/Santana/Buckcherry).

Classic Rock Legends The Lizards Feat. Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Cactus & Riot Members Release New CD!

Special Guest Appearances By Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple), Frank Marino (Mahogany Rush) and Vinnie Moore (UFO)!

NYC – The long awaited new album from Classic Rock legends The Lizards, featuring members of Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Cactus and Riot, will be released in September 2015 on Hyperspace Records in partnership with drumming legend Carmine Appice’s Rocker Records. Titled “Reptilicus Maximus”, the band’s 7th album features guest appearances by Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple), Frank Marino (Mahogany Rush) and Vinnie Moore (UFO)! Once again the breathtaking cover artwork was created by longtime Lizards artist Rick Klemann.

“These hard rockin’ Lizards have slithered their way to the top of the new ‘original’ classic rock heap. Like their alien counterparts they are simply out of this world!” – Nightwatcher’s Rock Blog

The Lizards are drummer Bobby Rondinelli (Rainbow/Black Sabbath/BOC), vocalist/keyboardist Mike DiMeo (Riot/Masterplan), bassist Randy Pratt (who also plays harp with Cactus) and guitarist Patrick Klein (who recorded and mixed the album), and have released seven critically acclaimed albums and three live DVDs in the past 13 years. The band’s 2006 release “Against All Odds”, and their covers album from 2009 “Archeology”, garnered rave reviews from fans and music press alike worldwide, catapulting The Lizards into legendary status!

“Loved hearing The Lizards when they opened for UFO. Cool riffs, grooves and musicality with Mike DiMeo’s killer vocals on top. Awesome new record and I am glad to be a part of it.” – Vinnie Moore, UFO

Says bassist and band leader Randy Pratt, “On our 7th CD, ‘Reptilicus Maximus’, we brought in a few of our touring buddies. David Lanik, of ‘Sharks’ kicks ass on ‘Ton on the One’, the opening track on the CD. Frank Marino, of Mahogany Rush, was the headliner on our first tour and dazzles on ‘Evil Eyes’, the second track. Vinnie Moore and UFO were the headliners on our LAST tour (so far). Vinnie shreds beautifully on ‘Crash’, a song I wrote the lyrics to in the hospital after my brutal car crash that sidelined us for awhile. We did a 2 month tour with Glenn Hughes and he came to New York to record 4 songs on our 6th CD, ‘Against All Odds’. ‘Miracle Man’ is a song that he wrote specifically for The Lizards, and I believe we slay it. He and Mike DiMeo do another one of their over the top duets on the closing number on the record. We added Scott ‘The Doctor’ Treibitz on keys for this CD, adding some new textures, from dark and brooding synths and majestic pipe organ to honky tonk piano and funky hammond organ.”

“Having toured with The Lizards and getting to know the band personally, I was delighted when Randy asked me to play on a track with them. And even if I hadn’t gotten to know what a great bunch of guys they are, I still would have accepted the invitation gladly, because I just loved the track and the music they make. With me it’s always been about heart, and these cats bring it… straight from the heart. ”
Frank Marino – Mahogany Rush

Says Randy, “The music runs from progressive rock to swampy blues, lyrics ranging from the sacred to the profane…all in the name of ROCK. Bobby Rondinelli told us that we got some of the best playing of his career on this record. Since he played with Rainbow, Black Sabbath and Blue Oyster Cult, you can believe the drums are world class throughout!”

“I consider it a crime not to check out these hot sounding reptiles!” – Metalliville, UK

Drum Icon Carmine Appice and 60’s Hitmaker Dean Parrish To Release New Digital Only EP “Northern Soul – I’m On My Way”

Los Angeles – Legendary drummer Carmine Appice and New York 60’s hitmaker, vocalist Dean Parrish have reunited after 50 years to record a new 7 song EP of 60’s soul music, commonly known as Northern Soul music. Aptly titled “Northern Soul – I’m On My Way”, the EP will be released on iTunes in August 2015. The duo first met when in the early 60’s they played opposite of Jimi Hendrix, known at the time as Jimmy James. The band, called The BEEETS, played Stax, Motown and Altantic 60’s soul. Carmine eventually went on to have major success with the likes of the Vanilla Fudge, Cactus, Beck, Bogert & Appice, Rod Stewart and countless other artists, while Dean pursued a solo career and had a number of hits in the UK and US. He did several Murry The K tours and performed on the Dick Clark show and other well know TV programs at the time such as Zachary Channel 11 NYC, and the Clay Cole show. Dean has performed on the same bill as Mitch Ryder, The Capitals and Lou Christie. He has recorded and toured with the likes of Jorge Santana, Paul Weller, Lord Large and the legendary Bob Marley. Dean even recorded 2 Jams with Jimi Hendrix & Eddie Kramer at Juggy Murray’s studio NYC 1969 with the band the Rosicrucians aka Steeplechase. In the 2000’s Dean was featured in a wedding scene as the Mcee on the hit show the Sopranos.

Says Carmine, “While Dean was doing those Murry the K shows and having hit singles. I was having my career with Vanilla Fudge having hit albums at around the same time….There was always a connection with me and Dean. I hooked him up with my Vanilla Fudge manager Phil Basile, and in turn Phil got two album deals for Dean with band members who were also friends of mine and dean’s from 60s….it was after that that Dean cut ‘I’m On My Way’, which became a big hit …but over the years me and Dean stayed in contact.”

Then in the early 2000s, Carmine and Dean reconnected again through a mutual friend Randy Pratt, harpist for Cactus and bassist for The Lizards (who have a new CD released) and Rickity. The duo began writing and recording at Randy’s studio in New York, which was the start of the “Northern Soul” release. Carmine and Dean had songs they wrote and recorded in the 60’s and rehashed them into what’s being released today….so this EP was destined to be finished. It features re-recorded versions of the big hit “I’m On My Way”, a karaoke version, a classic mix of the song as it was in 1970’s, and a modern version along with new RnB classics such as “Love’s Whatcha Cooking Babe”, “Fever” and “Lonely”, all really cool old school RnB, with an old school vibe but recorded with today’s sonic sound.

Says Dean, “Singing and playing guitar on this EP with Carmine was a labor of love, a feeling of togetherness that just comes with Northern Soul Music. This movement is still is very much alive today more than ever with a passion a kind of music that takes hold of you.”

Says Carmine, “Some of my favorite music was the 60’s RnB and the songs on this EP with Dean singing are exactly that, 60’s RNB or today known as Northern Soul. Back in the early 1960’s before Vanilla Fudge, I played with Dean in a 7 piece RnB group. Dean was always great at singing this music and I and glad to being playing that music with Dean again. I enjoyed putting this music together with him!”
