French Music Legends Magma To Release EMEHNTEHTT-RÉ TRILOGIE Live DVD!

Performed in full for the very first time!

Paris, France – French music legends Magma will be releasing EMEHNTEHTT-RÉ TRILOGIE Live DVD in January 2017! The concerts were recorded live at Le Triton in November 2014 and feature the EMEHNTEHTT-RÉ TRILOGIE performed in full for the very first time!

Initiated in 1973, its composition beholds its whole fulfillment after more than four decades. It is the testimony of an unwaveringly timeless inspiration, of which the expectant present asserts itself beyond history. Connecting wide and contrasted scenes, it sets its coherence within its very dynamics, playing with chiaroscuro, between choral splendor, operatic jubilation and hurricane of spirits beyond graves. The different parts formerly scattered around are finally gathered in all their glory, finding their proper place in the grand scale of a now complete work, topped off with the bright blaze of a Grand Finale.

The two-disc DVD set features THE CROSSROADS OF TIMES, 115 minutes of conversations with Christian Vander on composing each movement of the trilogy (with English subtitles). Through a process of digging, expanding, anchoring and changing directions, his unique approach continues to propel Magma’s music forward.

French Music Legends Magma To Perform With The Mëtalïk Orkestra At The Olympia In Paris – February 2 & 3, 2017!

Paris, France – Bands and trends might come and go, but some of it is meant to stay. Far beyond a mere jolt to the music world or a fad phenomenon, Magma imposed themselves as early as the 1970’s thanks to their unconventional and cliché-free approach to music. An unparalleled music, which is as violent as it is clever. Founded by drummer and singer Christian Vander, the band quickly set itself apart from its contemporaries through heavy and ruthless polyrhythmic beats. With a wide range of contemporary musical greats at his side, Vander remains a fine mentor from the likes of Miles Davis.

Since its reunion in 1996, the band has gone on several tours, always followed by its ever-growing and loyal fan base, and attracting an increasingly young audience! The cult band celebrated its 40th anniversary with the release of two Classical influenced bright new albums in 2009 and 2012. For their 45th anniversary, Magma is back with two new opuses respectively titled “Riah Sahiltaahk” and “Slag Tanz”, as well as a vinyl reissue of their whole discography. Since 2015, the band has been on a worldwide tour called “Le Tour Sans Fin”. Magma’s music is timeless.

At the Olympia, Magma will be supported by the Mëtalïk Orkestra, a new creation project. The ensemble will be performing selections from their extensive catalog including Emehntehtt-Ré and Slag Tanz. The orchestra is composed by 27 CMDL students (Didier Lockwood’s music school) and from the PSPBB of Paris.

Magma in concert on February 2nd and 3rd at the Olympia in Paris.

French Music Legends Magma To Tour North America Spring 2016!

Magma US spring tour 2016 med

For Immediate Release

French Music Legends Magma To Tour North America Spring 2016!

Paris, France – One of music’s most innovative and eclectic ensembles Magma will tour North America beginning in March 2016! Swirling riffs in odd time signatures, theatrical choir arrangements, heavy and distorted pulsing bass guitar, bombastic and minimalistic (sometimes both at the same time), dark and brooding, adventurous and angelic, jazzy or classical, but always with the highly innovative and original drums of founder and main composer Christian Vander. On the forthcoming US dates the legendary ensemble will be performing selections of new and classic Magma music!

“MAGMA is happy to return to the United States to play for Americans. We know you are passionate, respectful and curious about music. We find you to be generous and open. It will be a joy for us to see you this year.” – Christian Vander

Magma was founded in Paris in 1969 by Christian Vander, who derived his inspiration from a “vision of humanity’s spiritual and ecological future” that profoundly disturbed him. Vander was a self-taught musician, who received some tips from drum legend Elvin Jones. In the course of Magma’s first album, the band tells the story of a group of people fleeing a doomed Earth to settle on the planet Kobaïa. Later, conflict arises when the Kobaïans, who are descendants of the original colonists, encounter other Earth refugees. A distinguished aspect of Magma’s music is that Vander actually invented a constructed language, Kobaïan, in which most lyrics are sung. Later albums told different stories set in more ancient times; however the Kobaïan language remained an integral part of the music. Reportedly, Christian Vander is also highly influenced by the work of jazz legend John Coltrane. “For my work, it is still Coltrane who actually gives me the real material to work on, to be able to move on.,” says Vander.

Clearly Magma is one of the most influential of all French bands. They have left a legacy of music that defies any of the standard and convenient classifications of rock, operating instead in a realm of their own creation. It waits to be discovered by new converts, and continually by older fans alike!

Music Legends Magma To Release Iconic 1975 Live Album “Magma Live Hhaï” on Limited Edition Vinyl!

Paris, France – Completing the series of vinyl reissues, French music legends Magma will be issuing their iconic 1975 live album Magma Live Hhaï on limited edition vinyl. This double LP will be released by Jazz Village Records on October 2, 2015.

Magma has joined up with Jazz Village to celebrate its 45th anniversary with an impressive series of new and classic releases. A series of new and classic Magma titles has been scheduled for release every month from September 2014 to November 2015. A legendary French group if ever there was one, Magma has continued to influence the course of contemporary music since their debut in 1969.

After the departure in autumn of 1974 of Jannick TOP and most of the other members of the band, MAGMA rose phoenix-like from the ashes with a new, hot, line-up which saw the musical opportunity lying before it. After long rehearsals Christian VANDER realized that he had yet another exceptional groupand the decision was taken to record the first MAGMA live album. The recording, made in June 1975 at the Taverne de l’Olympia, perfectly demonstrates the incredible impact made by MAGMA. Absolutely dedicated to the music of Christian VANDER, who by that time had reached the summit of his art, the band plays as if it were one man and sweeps all before it in its triumphant passage. Whether it was a new arrangement of any of the old pieces (KOHNTARK, KOBAIA, MEKANIK) or a previously-unheard piece (HHAI, LIHNS), the sound of MAGMA has never been heard more powerfully as on this incredible recording. Although it remains difficult to point to any one performance as being outstanding, it would nevertheless be difficult not to react to the mind-blowing performance by Didier Lockwood, whose violin playing contributes so greatly to the profound originality of this magnificent double-album.

Christian VANDER drums, vocals – Klaus BLASQUIZ vocals – Stella VANDER vocals – Bernard PAGANOTTI bass – Gabriel FEDEROW guitar – Didier LOCKWOOD violin – Benoit WIDEMANN keyboards – Jean-Pol ASSELINE keyboards

ZUND 1:

Christian Vander’s Offering ‘Concert Triton 2013’ 2-CD/DVD Set Now Available!

Paris, France – Much to the excitement of Christian Vander and Magma fans worldwide, Seventh Records is releasing Offering ‘Concert Triton 2013’ 2-CD/DVD! In 1983, motivated by the strong artistic impulse to return to his “Coltrane” roots, with a sound that’s more flexible than MAGMA, Christian Vander created “Offering”; a new ensemble that focused on vocals, keyboards and percussion. More experimental, leaving a great part to improvisation, this group allowed musicians to explore new musical avenues.

Offering has remained out of the sight and hearing of the younger generations for the past 30 years. In order that they benefit, too, this wonderful “gift” that was “Offering”, Christian Vander and his musicians decided to celebrate this anniversary musically with candles glowing and a flame burning as bright as the first day. This initiative will delight all fans regardless of their ages…Galaxy Magma!

French Music Legends Magma Release EPOK 5 On DVD

Paris, France – After the success of the DVDs EPOK 1-2-3-4, published in 2006 and 2007, the jazz club Le Triton again welcomed Magma in June 2011. This was for a nine concerts cycle to complete the DVD series “Myths & Legends ” .

EPOK 5 not only includes pieces from 1971, 1977 and 1978 but also Félicité Thösz , the latest MAGMA release, heard here in a version prior to the recording of the album. There are, in addition, 20 minutes of unpublished music.
A dynamic and extremely musical edit enables the listener to enjoy the band at the height of its powers, showcasing the intensity of each composition and the technical prowess of the musicians. The exceptional sound quality was captured as usual by Francis Linon who knows, better than anyone, how to record the power and musicality of MAGMA.

Magma was founded in Paris in 1969 by drummer Christian Vander, who derived his inspiration from a “vision of humanity’s spiritual and ecological future” that profoundly disturbed him. Music Legends Magma Release New CD ‘Felicite Thosz’

Music Legends Magma Release New CD ‘Felicite Thosz’

July 13, 2012 – Paris, France – One of music’s most innovative and eclectic ensembles, Magma, has released a new CD titled ‘Felicite Thosz’ internationally on Seventh Records (June 2012). Having emerged unscathed from STAR WARS, don’t just sit there waiting for the end of the world. Take a leap into the MAGMA universe and grab their new studio album which is not to be missed under any circumstances: a trip which will lead you from Japan to the Urals via Central Asia with a detour to pay homage to Tamla Motown. Already aired in concert under the title ‘Felicite Thosz’ and well-attended by legions of the band’s fans, the piece is dominated by the celestial voice of Stella Vander and is a formidable mix of all the sonic colors which has made this cult band absolutely incatagorizable!

Magma was founded in Paris in 1969 by drummer Christian Vander, who derived his inspiration from a “vision of humanity’s spiritual and ecological future” that profoundly disturbed him. A distinguished aspect of Magma’s music is that Vander actually invented a constucted language, Kobaïan, in which most lyrics are sung.

Magma’s new CD features two pieces – the 28-minute title track ‘Felicite Thosz’, and a composition titled ‘Les Hommes Sont Venus’. Both tracks were recorded between September 2011 and April 2012 in Francis Linon’s new studio on the French Riviera. “I started working on this piece in 2001, right after I finished the exhausting recording of ‘Les cygnes et les corbeaux’,” explains Vander. “With ‘Felicite’, there was an immediate feeling of ease, the piece seemed to come to life, clear, under my fingers. True happiness beneath the complexity, the circumvolutions, the meanderings… the spires and the spirals of ‘Les cygnes et les corbeaux’. There lies the color of Magma’s great themes, and its quintessential spirit. One could say that the melodies have evolved, gained fluidity. The idea of renewal belongs to every civilization, celebrating beings, places, nature and gods. With the sounds, rites and traditions from various lands unfold. This theme offers a new aspect of Magma’s music, a source that unleashes its power flow. I hope you enjoy listening to it.”

In other news, Magma will be the headline act for the Zappanale Festival in Germany on August 3rd and Paris La Villette Jazz Festival on August 30th.
