Indie Rock Superstars Salute The Thin White Duke With All New Interpretations Of David Bowie’s Best!

2325 Salute Thin White Duke med res

For Immediate Release

Indie Rock Superstars Salute The Thin White Duke With All New Interpretations Of David Bowie’s Best!

Features performances by Kittie, Dum Dum Girls, Electric Six, Rogue Wave, Heartless Bastards, The Muffs and more!

Los Angeles, CA – David Bowie’s career has been defined by his unique ability to make artistically complex and challenging music sound like mainstream pop…ok, maybe pop music from an entirely different planet, but pop music all the same. As a result, the definition of rock music has expanded; Bowie never went mainstream, the mainstream always came to him. For these reasons and more, he is one of the most deeply revered and profoundly influential artists in modern rock. And nowhere can Bowie’s influence be felt more than in the world of indie rock, where bands and artists have taken Bowie’s fiercely independent streak, commitment to artistic integrity, and a diverse array of musical styles into the 21st century and beyond. Now, a truly impressive gathering of indie and modern rockers have gathered to pay tribute to the man with A Salute To The Thin White Duke – The Songs Of David Bowie to be released on both CD & vinyl as well as mp3s on October 2 courtesy of Cleopatra Records.

Among the participants is the all-girl alt metal Canadian quartet Kittie who expressed a sentiment shared by many of the artists here, “We are so excited to be able to contribute to this amazing tribute album. ‘Space Oddity’ is arguably one of David Bowie’s most well known songs so we put all of our efforts into doing all of its intricacies justice, while still retaining our signature, heavy sound.’ Meanwhile, Detroit’s own Electric Six made no bones about their preferred Bowie era, saying “We had to do ‘80s Bowie because frankly, we couldn’t trust the earlier Bowie. And the ‘90s Bowie is, well…So ‘80s Bowie was the one for us, and ‘Blue Jean’ was just sitting there waiting for us to club the shit out of it, and, man, did we club it!” Similarly, Zach from Rogue Wave had this to say of “Modern Love,” the song that opens the album, “My favorite Bowie song from his tailored suit era. All that uptempo beat and those chugging horns couldn’t hide the sadness of what it means to come down to earth.”

Jared Artaud from The Vacant Lots succinctly expressed the challenges of approaching Bowie’s music, “It’s hard to touch Bowie. He’s an architect. What he’s done, you can’t make it better, so we wanted to reconceptualize it & approach the song from another point of view.” And The Tulips offer this entirely accurate description, “Covering a Bowie tune was like jumping into a cab and realizing there’s a tiger sitting shotgun, and no one says a word.” A wild ride indeed! And fans of Bowie will find this collection of covers equally as thrilling!

Track List
1. Modern Love – Rogue Wave
2. John, I’m Only Dancing – Jesca Hoop
3. Letter To Hermione – Dum Dum Girls
4. Heroes – The Tulips
5. Ashes To Ashes – Icky Blossoms

Grammy and Emmy Award Winning Multi-Platinum Producer Narada Michael Walden To Release New Full Length Album EVOLUTION on Tarpan Records

San Rafael, CA – Tarpan Records is pleased to announce the international release of EVOLUTION the upcoming full-length album by Narada Michael Walden releasing on October 30th 2015. The albums’ first single, Billionaire On Soul Street, which was released on August 14th, 2015 and the forthcoming album represent a change of direction for Narada, one that brings him back to his roots in Dance and Club Music, Funk and Soul. The first single was, and full-length album will be released on Narada’s own imprint, Tarpan Records.

Narada Michael Walden has produced many household names including: Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, George Michael, Mariah Carey, Stacy Lattisaw, Steve Winwood, Ray Charles, Sister Sledge, Patti Austin, Gladys Knight, Rev Al Green, Barbra Streisand, Lionel Ritchie, Elton John, Sting, Carlos Santana, Shanice Wilson, Tevin Campbell, Lisa Fischer, Stevie Wonder, Tom Jones, Wynonna Judd and The Temptations. He was awarded Grammys for Producer of the Year in 1988, Album of the Year for the movie soundtrack The Bodyguard in 1993 and the R&B Song of the Year in 1985 for Aretha Franklin’s Freeway of Love. Billboard Magazine also named him one of the “Top Ten Producers with the Most Number One Hits”.

As impressive a production and songwriting resume as Narada Michael Walden has assembled over the past forty years, he has earned equal acclaim as a recording and performing artist in his own right. Beginning as a drummer with the pioneering Mahavishnu John McLaughlin’s Mahavishnu Orchestra (following Billy Cobham at 20 years old), Narada also toured with Jeff Beck, Tommy Bolin, and Weather Report. With twelve acclaimed solo albums of his own which produced Dance Hits such as I Don’t Want Nobody Else to Dance With You, I Shoulda Loved Ya, Divine Emotions, Gimme Gimme Gimme and Tonight I’m Alright along the way, he has achieved greatness in a wide range of sonic arenas. Walden’s music includes groundbreaking soundtrack work on such blockbuster films as The Bodyguard, Free Willy, Beverly Hills Cops II, 9 ½ Weeks and Stuart Little including Gladys Knight’s License to Kill for the James Bond Film, Jefferson Starship’s Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now for Mannequin to the EMMY-winning One Moment In Time, the theme to the 1988 Olympic Games.

In early February 2012, Narada Michael Walden returned from a well received 10 day stint of shows at the Blue Note in Tokyo and Nagoya, Japan to perform at the White House in an all-star band for President Obama’s “Red, White and Blues” Concert with legends B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Mick Jagger, Trombone Shorty, Booker T Jones and more.

Narada enlisted some amazing musicians and performers for his band on EVOLUTION including: Nikita Germaine (Train, Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, James Taylor, and Patty Austin) on Vocals, Frank Martin (Angela Bofil, John Handy Band, Tuck & Patti, Jose’ Neto, Airto & Flora, Sting & Trudie’s Rainforest Band) on Keyboards, Angeline Saris (Gretchen Menn, Zepperella) on Bass and Vocals, Matthew Charles Heulitt (Zigaboo Modaliste) on Guitars.

Narada explains about the album’s first single: “This album EVOLUTION means the world to me because it reflects my personal feeling of spirituality and that feeling renewed for life by having my children Kelly and Kaylah in my life and my wife Katie. Having children now at this time in my life really has touched my heart to feel like WOW! Look how lucky and how blessed I am by God. I used this slogan, this sentence that I got from Kimrea who works at my Tarpan Studios. Cause’ I feel so good like a Billionaire on Soul Street. “EVOLUTION is a strong statement from Narada, inspired by the “retro” sound that is so prevalent on the radio and in clubs today. The album features mostly original material and two covers; Freedom by Richie Havens and Long and Winding Road by John Lennon and Paul McCartney.

Tarpan Records will release Narada Michael Walden’s new album EVOLUTION internationally in October of 2015 with help from distribution and marketing powerhouse Independent Distribution Collective. This new album is a Dance masterpiece, with many flavors of Narada’s vast history mixed in.

His label, Tarpan Records is a home to both established and amazing up-and-coming artists as well. Tarpan Records specializes in artist development, full service project management, promotion, and distribution. Initially focused on Narada’s releases, the plan is to apply this business model to up and coming and established recording artists in the years to come.

Narada Michael Walden and his all-star band will perform a series of shows across the USA in the next few months in support of the release of EVOLUTION.

Nashville, TN – Since leaving home in 1961 to pursue a career in music, T.G. Sheppard has done it all. He scored a job as a promotions executive for RCA Records, where he became friends with Elvis Presley who believed in his talent so much that he gave him his first tour bus, topped the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart an astonishing 21 times, and left an everlasting mark on Country music. Over the years, the smooth singer/songwriter has made a lot of impressive friends, which inspired the vision for his upcoming album, Legendary Friends & Country Duets, which is set for release on Oct. 30 via Cleopatra Records. On the upcoming project, TG collaborates with some of the most influential artists of all-time and those that he can actually call his personal friends.

“In my 40 years of recording music, this album has to be my most favorite I’ve ever recorded,” says T.G. Sheppard. “I’m very honored that so many of my personal friends came in to sing, with no questions asked, and gave their all.”

Listeners will be taken on a journey, with songs that hit the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. Mike Oldfield’s “The Space Movie” Original Soundtrack To Be Released On CD For The First Time!

For Immediate Release

Mike Oldfield’s “The Space Movie” Original Soundtrack To Be Released On CD For The First Time!

London, UK – GONZO Multimedia will be releasing a newly restored and (finally) complete edition of Mike Oldfield and Tony Palmer’s “The Space Movie.” For the very first time the original soundtrack featuring all the talk-back between the astronauts and ground control, as well as orchestral versions of music by Mike Oldfield will be released on CD!

This classic film was originally commissioned by London Weekend Television and Virgin Films in 1979 to mark the 10th Anniversary of the first landing on the moon, July 21st 1969. A recent discovery of a print in mint condition has enabled us to issue the film in a sparkling new (and complete!) edition.

Producer Tony Palmer explains, “The invitation to make the film came out of the clear blue sky from NASA in January 1978. I was invited to Washington and shown the mountain of film NASA had collected from the very beginnings with John Glenn, the first astronaut to orbit the earth in February 1962, until Apollo 17 December 1972. Use whatever I wanted, I was told, plus all the talk-back between ground control in Houston and the various space missions. NASA’s extraordinary and spectacular images made me realize I had access to a treasure house beyond imagination.

“From the beginning, I wanted Mike Oldfield to write the music, and the soundtrack which emerged – a combination of hitherto unreleased recordings including the orchestral versions of Oldfield’s early masterpieces, ‘Tubular Bells’ and ‘Hergest Ridge’ – is remarkable, perfect in every way; evocative, powerful, an inspiring match for the images. And I’m sure it is that, plus of course the astonishing NASA footage and the sound of the astronauts chatting away in space. Virgin Films may have long gone, but together these elements made and make the film what it is – something rather special.”

At a Gala Screening in the Egyptian Cinema in Hollywood in 2008, the film was introduced by Buzz Aldrin, the second man to walk upon the moon. He said: “It gives me enormous pleasure, and a thrill, to be able to introduce Tony Palmer’s remarkable film about our space adventures. I say remarkable because at the time it was made, 1978/9, very little of the footage you are about to see had ever been seen in public, images which are now so familiar as to be truly iconic. But it was Tony who used them first, and we are very pleased that he did, even if he did construct the longest take-off in history! I still get a chill hearing some of the talk-back which, like the footage, NASA had provided for Tony to use. When the rocket takes off, boy is that a roller-coaster ride, bumpy as hell. So when you hear my voice saying ‘little bit of shaking there’, you’ll know what I mean! So thank you Tony for what you did.”

The distinguished film critic Alexander Walker said after the first screenings: “The best British film screened at Cannes (in 1980) was Mike Oldfield and Tony Palmer’s ‘The Space Movie’, with unique footage from NASA and music by Mike Oldfield. Palmer’s film combines both in a wonderful, at times profoundly moving, tribute to the astronauts from Cape Kennedy. The film includes one of the finest space launches ever collated, with footage that is unbelievably spectacular. Full marks to director Tony Palmer. The result is breathtaking, beautiful and brilliant.”

This version comes complete with Director’s Cut BONUS DVD of the movie.

Two Chrome/Damon Edge Rarities Get Reissued On Special Limited Edition Vinyl!

Los Angeles, CA – August 11 marked the 20th anniversary of the death of pioneering musician/songwriter/painter/madman Damon Edge whose profoundly gifted talents and indomitable spirit inspired numerous bands and artists both in his hometown of San Francisco and all over the world. In 1975, Edge founded the legendary experimental noise rock outfit Chrome, partnering with guitarist and fellow maverick Helios Creed for a string of albums from 1977’s Alien Soundtracks to 1982’s 3rd From The Sun that today stand as monuments of defiantly creative and uncompromising underground music. Chrome was, for the most part, a studio project that found Edge & Creed toiling away endlessly, experimenting with new recording techniques and sound designs. Live shows were extremely rare. In fact, the duo made a grand total of two public performances in its lifetime, which is why a bootleg recording of the group’s 1981 live debut at a music festival in Bologna, Italy became a much sought after treasure. Dubbed Chromosome Damage, this special release will be reissued on August 21 by Cleopatra Records. The reissue features new album artwork and remastered audio pressed onto gorgeous clear vinyl, plus a printed inner sleeve with detailed liner notes written by Chrome historian Neil Martinson.

Also available on August 21 is a limited edition vinyl pressing of Damon Edge’s 1985 debut solo album Alliance. With the end of his partnership with Creed, Edge began to delve into the cold sterility of new wave, taking the metallic rhythms and chilly synth lines to new frontiers. Though Edge’s initial solo work was viewed as a step toward the mainstream, in reality he was as dark and subversive as ever, and Alliance shows an artist stretching to redefine himself without losing sight of his own uniqueness, a feat that Edge pulls off here with aplomb. Alliance will be issued in two limited pressings–a clear vinyl pressing, and a crimson vinyl pressing–both limited to just 500 copies each. Inside, a printed inner sleeve features liner notes by Martinson as well as a reproduction of the original release’s insert. It also includes a rare non-album track that has not been available on vinyl since it appeared as the B-side on the “I’m A Gentleman” 7” single. Both of these releases are fitting tributes to one of the most revolutionary figures in modern music and the patron saint of avant-garde artists everywhere, Damon Edge!

Audio Fidelity To Release Loggins and Messina Classic Rock Gem On 4.0 Quad SACD

“So much great music packed into one album!”

Camarillo, CA – Marshall Blonstein’s Audio Fidelity is releasing Loggins and Messina’s critically acclaimed self-titled album on 4.0 Quad SACD. While Loggins and Messina created many fine albums this one stands out as most representative of their impact. In the early ’70s the duo pioneered true country/rock and showcased it with style and near-flawless performances.

The eponymously titled 1972 Loggins and Messina album built on the strengths of their debut outing, “Sittin’ In.” The same mix of short catchy country-folk-pop gems with longer intricately layered and meaningful ballads bordering on jazz and edgy rock powered its success. The album reached #16 on the Billboard charts and “Your Mama Don’t Dance” charted at #4. The epic “Angry Eyes” became an instant FM radio staple reaching the top of the college radio and AOR charts.

This Loggins and Messina album has many varied textures and arrangements. A little bit of country, a number of quality ballads and some good old rock ‘n’ roll. Their backup band was anchored by multi-instrumentalist Al Garth, and also featured keyboardist Michael Omartian and Poco steel guitarist Rusty Young.

The Loggins and Messina album became the true introduction of the band, Loggins and Messina, not as soloists playing together, but rather as a duo that offered pure genius in their music.

“Exceptional harmonies and insightful lyrics…The cream Of The Classic Rock crop.”

Guitar Legend Steve Hillage To Issue Unreleased Concert Recording “Live In Madison Square Garden 1977”

2222 steve_hillage med res

For Immediate Release

Guitar Legend Steve Hillage To Issue Unreleased Concert Recording “Live In Madison Square Garden 1977”

London, UK – Steve Hillage is one of the most idiosyncratic and instantly recognisable guitarists in the world. Associated with the Canterbury scene, he has worked in experimental domains since the late 1960s. Besides his critically acclaimed solo recordings, along with prog legends Gong, Steve has been a member of the ensembles Khan and System 7. And now, much to the excitement of Steve Hillage fans worldwide, Cleopatra Records will be releasing a vintage concert recording from 1977 of his band in concert at Madison Square Garden in NYC!

Says Steve, “This was a great performance from another fine period of my band in the late ’70s. This was my first tour of the US – Gong never played there while I was in the band in the seventies. It wasn’t my first visit to the US though – my first visit was in 1976 when I went to record ‘L’ at Todd Rundgren’s studio, near Woodstock, New York. Madison Square Garden in New York is an iconic major venue, so it was a fantastic honor to play there! We were playing to audiences who mostly didn’t know our music too well, so we just let rip and went for it. The band was really firing!!!”

“Live In Madison Square Garden 1977” is culled from a crystal clear soundboard recording that captures Hillage at the height of his powers with performances from his second solo album “L”, including a psychedelic cover of Donovan’s “Hurdy Gurdy Man” plus the epic length “Hurdy Gurdy Glissando,” “Lunar Musick Suite” and more! Also included are superb bonus studio tracks that feature exclusive versions of Hillage’s recent recording collaborations with keyboard legend Rick Wakeman and world renowned actor William Shatner!

“Todd Rundgren came to the Madison Square Garden show,” Hillage remembers, “and I’m pretty sure he joined our sound engineer at the mixing desk and added some extra Harmonizer drum effects to ‘It’s All Too Much’. It certainly sounds like that on the recording! I was waiting for a good moment to release this US gig recording in the US on an American label. Cleopatra, with whom I’ve had a long relationship, asked me if I had any good available archive material and it immediately struck me that this moment had arrived!”

Steve Hillage first came to prominence as a member of the multi-national rock band Gong. Steve appeared on successful albums such as ‘Angels Egg’, ‘You’ and his final album with the band ‘Shamal’. Steve recorded his first solo album in 1975 entitled ‘Fish Rising’. This album was recorded whilst still a member of Gong. Shortly after however, Steve and his partner Miquette Giraudy left Gong embarking on a career that continues to this day under the name System 7.

In 1976 Steve recorded the album ‘L’, which was produced by Todd Rundgren. The album was a huge success and Steve subsequently formed the first Steve Hillage Band, which included former Jethro Tull drummer Clive Bunker and future Camel bassist Colin Bass. The band made its live debut at the Hyde Park concert staged by Queen in September 1976. From 1976 to 1979, Steve Hillage released several critically acclaimed albums and toured the world.

Steve Hillage’s “Live In Madison Square Garden 1977” is available on CD in a mini-LP sleeve and a special limited edition opaque orange vinyl pressing with full color insert and sleeve!

Music Legend Michael Stanley To Release New Studio Album “And Then…”

Cleveland, OH – Line Level Music is proud to announce the release of “And Then…”, the new album from critically acclaimed singer/songwriter Michael Stanley.

Produced by Michael Stanley and mixed by legendary producer/engineer Bill Szymczyk (Eagles, B.B.King, Joe Walsh, The James Gang, The Who and Santana), “And Then…” contains twelve new Stanley compositions and a cover of Storyville”s “Good day For The Blues”.

Backed by members of his road band The Resonators, “And Then…” is another outstanding example of Stanley’s eclectic musical leanings. “I guess it springs from growing up in the same time frame as rock n’ roll and being knocked out by all the different styles that led to that musical melting pot,” said Stanley. “Because of that I rarely sit down to write a certain ‘type’ of song…whatever happens happens…and although that can be a marketing man’s nightmare, it keeps me interested and, hopefully, growing as a writer.”

From the mid-70’s to the mid-80’s, The Michael Stanley Band rocked arenas all over the midwest, setting still-unmatched concert attendance records at northeastern Ohio’s Blossom Music Center and The Coliseum in Cleveland.

With album sales reaching the hundreds of thousands, the band enjoyed a strong and undeniably loyal following in other areas of the country as well, and toured with some greats, including Bruce Springsteen, The Eagles, Foreigner and The Doobie Brothers…

In his early days of recording his talent attracted the likes of producer Bill Szymczyk and guest musicians Joe Walsh, Todd Rundgren, and David Sanborn from the beginning. He formed the Michael Stanley Band (aka MSB) in 1975 and pursued a more straightforward rock direction.

To this day, Michael’s first two albums are mainstays of any fan of 70’s country rock. Songs like “Rosewood Bitters,” “Moving Right Along,” “Yours for a Song” and the ultimate Michael Stanley tune, “Let’s Get The Show on The Road” have survived well. Most favorably compared to Dan Fogelberg’s early albums, Michael was and still is extremely capable of writing songs that raise the little hairs on the back of your neck. Just from his uncanny ability to write perfect songs ever since he began would be enough reason to listen to his music but Michael has been able to do what few other artists have in that he hasn’t changed his magic method. His new songs are just as vibrant as his classics. The sign of a true artist.

So welcome to Michael Stanley’s new album “And Then…”, the next step on a musical journey that has spanned over four decades and shows no sign of slowing down!
