Audio Fidelity To Release “Colors of the day – The Best of Judy Collins” on Quad 4.0 Hybrid SACD

“This is Collins at her finest.”

Camarillo, CA – Marshall Blonstein’s Audio Fidelity will be releasing the ultimate “best of” collection by folk legend Judy Collins on Quad 4.0 Hybrid SACD. Colors of the day – The Best of Judy Collins first arrived in record stores in 1972. The recording features Collins’ earliest, most time-honored recordings. The song that propelled the album sales was her number one hit, “Both Sides Now,” an alluring Joni Mitchell tune that dominated the charts for months.

Collins’ voice is remarkably beautiful, her phrasing, her ability to enunciate and her vocal range place her in a category by herself. Her amazing talent is on full display in this excellent collection that includes Collins’ explorations into folk-pop, country-pop (“Someday Soon,” an Ian Tyson classic), British folk (“Sunny Goodge Street,” The Beatles “In My Life”), and gospel (“Amazing Grace”) that clearly show her eclecticism.

The thoughtfully programmed collection includes the Leonard Cohen classic, “Suzanne.” Cohen’s haunting and evocative lyrics are masterfully interpreted by Collins who was an early champion of his amazingly poetic folk songs. Some of the record’s finest moments are from her exquisite 1968 album Who Knows Where the Time Goes including that album’s title track. Also included are two of her lovely autobiographical compositions, “My Father” and “Albatross.”

“This anthology brings the ‘best-of’ collection to a new art form.”

Guitar Virtuoso Todd Grubbs To Release New Vocal Album “As The Worm Turns”

Guitar Virtuoso Todd Grubbs To Release New Vocal Album “As The Worm Turns”

Tampa, FL – Best known for his virtuosic guitar instrumental albums, Tampa guitarist Todd Grubbs will be releasing for the first time a predominantly “vocal” album titled “As The Worm Turns”. Not to fear, you still hear Todd shred on guitar throughout the album, but this time around the tracks are more “song” oriented.

Says Todd, “I have been writing and working on these songs for the last couple of years. I have 2 vocal albums with the band 3 Green Windows but I wanted to do a true solo album with a bunch of different singers. I have really enjoyed creating all of my instrumental CDs but I kinda feel like I have made my statement in that genre, my new goal is to equal my instrumental output with vocal projects.”

The beginning of “As The Worm Turns” features a conceptual piece about a former soldier’s personal crises. Todd explains, “The first 4 songs are actually a concept piece about a soldier that begins with him dealing with his demons in mid life (The Man in the Hat). The story then goes back into his time during the D Day invasion (Stay Alive). The Other side of forever is a companion piece to Stay Alive, telling the soldier’s wife’s experience at home. The 4th song of this mini concept piece is We are one and it is the soldier at the end of his life coming to peace and trying to understand everything he has been through.”

“With a clear soaring tone, Grubbs has the chops to keep the shred heads satisfied but it’s certainly not his raison d’ etre. More interested in melody and feel than speed, Grubbs knows when to hold back as much as when to fire away.” – Guitar World

Todd Grubbs’ core band as always is Jeff Henry on Drums Alan Tatum on Bass. Also included, Daniel Swartwood and Eddie Ray Myers on keyboards. Todd also has some great singers involved, Zack Stevens (Savatage, Circle to Circle) John Wesley (Solo,Porcupine Tree) Todd Plant (Eyewitness,Cryptic Vision) as well as a couple of fantastic young singers, Emily Velasco and Melanie Sims.

Todd Grubbs studied at Berklee College of Music and has been voted ‘Most Outstanding Guitarist’ at the Tampa Bay Music Awards, as well as winning the ‘Most Outstanding Video’ two consecutive years in a row. Along with Frank Zappa, Grubbs influences, which can be heard throughout Time, Space and the Electric, range from Steve Vai, John Coltrane, The Beatles, Kate Bush, Jeff Beck, Michael Schenker, Ulli Jon Roth and Adrian Belew.

“Todd knows that chops without good compositions, original arrangements and a good sense of humor lead nowhere, as he has all the goods; he can go anywhere he wants. Todd boasts a big fat juicy tone, chops to kill for and a predilection for a certain hyperactive musical schizophrenia with compositions shifting stylistically on a moments notice.” – Tampa Tribune

Along with the release of “As The Worm Turns”, Todd has 4 videos for this project all available on youtube. “The Man in the Hat” and “Stay Alive” feature Zak Stevens, “Venus is Falling” features Emily Velasco and “We Are One” features John Wesley.

In closing Todd has this to say, “My only real message I wish to impart is my love for creating music, I think I enjoy it more than ever.”

Unreleased Live Recordings By Fusion Legends Brand X Now Available!

London, UK – Although, typically considered an off-shoot band for Genesis legend Phil Collins, UK fusion group Brand X was much more than that. Featuring several virtuosic musicians (as well as Collins) Brand X took the genre of fusion to a whole new level of expertise. Along with Collins on drums, the band featured Percy Jones (bass), John Goodsall (guitar) and Robin Lumley (keyboards), Morris Pert (percussion), with sometimes Mike Clark, Kenward Dennard (drums), Mike Clark (drums), John Giblin (bass), Peter Robinson (keyboards), and Mike Miller (guitar). Active from 1975-1980, Brand X was another one of those bands who were beloved by other musicians, and the more discerning critics, but despite everything never had the commercial success they deserved. The band released several critically acclaimed albums on the Charisma label in the UK and Passport label in the US, including ‘Unorthodox Behaviour’, ‘Moroccan Roll’, ‘Livestock’ and ‘Product’. Now much to the excitement of Brand X fans and fusion music fans worldwide, Gonzo MultiMedia is releasing 3 rare live Brand X titles on CD – “Ronnie Scotts Live 1976”, “Live in San Francisco” and “Live From Chicago 1978”.

What’s music legend KEVIN GODLEY (10cc / Godley & Creme) doing now? HOG FEVER the Ear Movie, that’s what.

Hog Fever

For Immediate Release

What’s music legend KEVIN GODLEY (10cc / Godley & Creme) doing now?
HOG FEVER the Ear Movie, that’s what.

RICHARD LA PLANTE: I’m dribbling into a microphone in a tiny LA sound studio, trying to record an audio book of my memoir HOG FEVER and the sound engineer looks as bored as I feel. Then a thought hits me like the crack of thunder from a V-Twin exhaust. Boom! Why don’t I do the Hog Fever screenplay, not the book, and get real actors, Terence Stamp, sound effects, Rock music, the works? I’ll phone my writing buddy, Kevin Godley – the Scorsese of music video and we’ll call it an, an…

KEVIN GODLEY: An Ear Movie? Damn right! Once Terence was in, I was, but what the hell is an Ear Movie anyway? Well, it’s a pure audio experience with music plus all the production values of a movie but without any er…pictures! Anyway, once we started writing, a few things became obvious. A) Lose anything that relies on seeing. B) Don’t get lost in sound for sound’s sake. C) Write until your eyes bleed…but hey, who needs eyes, anyway? We’re making an EAR MOVIE!

“HOG FEVER should be outlawed. It’s contagious.” – Sunday Times

Midway between the satire of Spinal Tap and the pathos of American Beauty lies the schizophrenic state of mind known as Hog Fever. On the surface this is the story of a man, a motorcycle, and a teetering bank balance. But lurking beneath is the story of a lost soul in search of freedom – or at least one last stab at it. Motivated by the emasculating success of his British screenwriter wife and a love of Easy Rider and The Wild One, Robert Lourdes, a struggling American author on the cusp of forty, finds solace in the Harley-Davidson legend. Hog Fever is Robert’s comedy of errors as he embarks on a toot, tattoo-and-testosterone-fueled quest to find himself.

The HOG FEVER CD and download comprises Episodes 1 through 5 plus bonus music soundtrack including 4 original songs by Kevin Godley (10 CC, Godley & Creme, GG/06) ‘The Bad & The Beautiful’ ‘Work Song’ ‘Just Write’ and ‘Confession.’ and a special track by Daniel Ash (Bauhaus, Love and Rockets) ‘Flame On.’

*Features Oscar nominee Terence Stamp and a full supporting cast
*Adapted for the ears by Kevin Godley from Richard La Plante’s memoir Hog Fever
*Directed by Kevin Godley
*Produced by Escargot Books
*Sound design by Kevin Godley and Ivan Jackman
*Original songs by Richard La Plante, Mark Ling, Daniel Ash, Billy Goodrum, and Kevin Godley
*Original songs produced by Greg Penny and Kevin Godley
*Incidental music written and produced by Kevin Godley and Ivan Jackman

The title role in Steven Soderbergh’s The Limey, returned him to leading man status and recently Stamp has worked beside Jim Carrey, Tom Cruise, and Matt Damon. His latest film is Big Eyes, directed by Tim Burton. His first Ear Movie is Hog Fever, directed by Kevin Godley.

RICHARD LA PLANTE: is a musician, songwriter and the bestselling author of eight novels and two memoirs, including HOG FEVER, on which this fictionalized Ear Movie is based.

KEVIN GODLEY: is a musician, writer, artist, inventor, and award-winning music video director. He was a founder member of Art Rock band 10cc and Godley & Creme. His music video credits include the Beatles, U2, Peter Gabriel, Sting, Keane, Eric Clapton, Snow Patrol, Alabama 3, and Lou Reed. VANILLA FUDGE will be hosting the drawing on January 4th in New York City – winner will be contacted by the band shortly after the drawing.

Vanilla Fudge drummer Carmine Appice boldly declares Spirit Of ‘67 to be “the best album we’ve done since our very first album. Great vocal arrangements and instrumental performances from everyone in the band!” Founding member and lead vocalist and keyboardist Mark Stein agrees saying, “Spirit Of ’67 is a record that I’m proud of. The success of Vanilla Fudge has always been based on our interpretations of songs by great artists. Our style of classic & symphonic rock lives large on this effort, and the performances and arrangements I would hope will be enjoyed by both old and new fans alike.” To hear what these guys are raving about, check out the band’s piano heavy take on The Box Tops’ “The Letter” as well as the heaving, guitar fuzz version of Spencer Davis Group’s “Gimme Some Lovin’.” As founding guitarist Vinny Martell puts it, “Spirit Of ’67 is the continuation of the journey we began in the Summer of Love–psychedelic, rhythmically powerful arrangements and performances of happening tunes of that era colored by the insight and vision of who we are today.” Likewise, Sprit Of ’67 itself is both an album about a specific time period yet demonstrates the timelessness of truly great songs.

Drum Legend Terry Bozzio To Release “Composer Series” 4-CD/DVD!

Drum Legend Terry Bozzio To Release “Composer Series” 4-CD/DVD!

Los Angeles – Legendary & award winning melodic drummer, Terry Bozzio is releasing worldwide, what he calls a “Life’s Work” project of Art & Music on the Japanese label Ward Records in December 2015. Bozzio is embarking on a world tour to promote it starting in Japan and Europe in the fall of 2015 & continuing throughout the US & other territories in 2016. Terry has worked with Frank Zappa, Jeff Beck, Korn, UK, Missing Persons, Mick Jagger, Robbie Robertson, Alan Holdsworth, Tony Levin, Steve Vai, Quincy Jones, Ken Scott, Metropole Orkest, SMAP, Loudness’ Munetaka Higuchi & “X” Japan’s Hide – as well as Film score composers Basil Poledouris, Mark Isham & Patrick O’Hearn – see more at http://www.terrybozzio.com – Grammy winner, RockWalk Honoree, Modern Drummer magazine’s Hall of Fame Award, Rolling Stone’s Top 5 Drummers of All Time!

Says Bozzio, “I’ve been composing, (not just song writing, like for Missing Persons & Jeff Beck) since the ’70s. I compose in all styles (as one might classify them), from classical to ambient, electronic, film-like to fusion/rock or jazz. I have my own character or personality, it’s unique. I work with many different processes from writing notes on paper, to recording live, to several different computer software applications I may use, that are suited to the particular result I am trying to achieve. Both Zappa & famed musicologist Nicolas Slonimsky encouraged me to compose & I have had my Chamberworks performed at the Vienna Jazz Festival & in Holland w/Metropol Orkest.”

He continued, “I first got interested in Art & Sketching at the encouragement of renowned artist Don Van Vliet (aka: Captain Beefheart) who I played with on my first Zappa/Mothers of Invention tour in 1975. Don was always carrying markers & paper & it looked like fun, so I bought some myself & started. He was very encouraging. Last year, I released my first project called Rhythm & Sketch in collaboration with the art group Scene Four. It’s been successful & inspired me to do more. (available at http://www.terrybozzioart.com)”

Terry Bozzio fulfilled a major 2 &1/2 month US solo tour in 2014 in which he displayed his art as a stage set while performing melodic, tuned melodies on his strikingly large drum set, to sold out crowds.

“I thought it would be great to share this music which I’ve been working on & keeping to myself for so long. I hope to show a different side of my expression from what people are used to seeing from my solo drumming. And, I wanted to have an abstract painting to represent & be paired with each title to create this hybrid project of music & art,” Bozzio explained.

The “Composer Series” contains 59 individual pieces or movements of compositions with a painting in a booklet for each title, along with detailed liner notes for each piece, explaining his concepts, feelings, process and approach for each. It will be available in a deluxe hard-cover artbook which includes Terry Bozzio’s hand drawn illustrations and commentary for each piece, audio CDs & a solo drum performance Blu-Ray shot in Japan in 2015 (w/bonus footage), 192kHz/24bit Hi-Res audio of the 59 pieces on Blu-ray and a bonus DVD including 60min talk session of Terry Bozzio with Masa Ito. The material will also be made available in CD/DVD or 4CD/Blu-ray for record stores, as well as in many or individual downloadable formats online.

URIAH HEEP Announces the Release of Obscure Re-Recordings Anthology, Now Re-Branded TOTALLY DRIVEN – OUT NOW!

London, UK – Legendary band URIAH HEEP was formed in 1969 and still actively tours the world today. This release re-brands a previously released obscure re-recordings anthology as TOTALLY DRIVEN. The album features 27 re-recordings made in 2001 including the HITS Lady in Black, July Morning and Easy Livin’.

This album features the band’s longest running line-up of MICK BOX, LEE KERSLAKE, PHIL LANZON, BERNIE SHAW and the late TREVOR BOLDER. This release is the first on the band’s own URIAH HEEP RECORDS.

Of the release, Mick Box said “The ‘Totally Driven’ recordings were made while we were in preparation for the ‘Acoustically Driven’ and ‘Electrically Driven’ concerts. Previously these 2001 recordings were released under the confusing name ‘Remasters’, but that title went out of print very quickly. This re-release has had the band’s full input, including in its re-branding as ‘Totally Driven’ and will be the very first release on our own Uriah Heep Records. ‘Appy Days!”

Totally Driven is housed in a 6 panel digi-pack with new custom artwork by Igor Morski.

Houston, TX – On the heels of his critically acclaimed album from 2014, prog instrumentalist Leon Alvarado is releasing a new short film and accompanying soundtrack single titled “Persistence” on December 15, 2015. The film is being described as “a short adventure of sight and sound”. The soundtrack single features King Crimson’s Trey Gunn, and was mastered by Andy Jackson who co-produced the latest Pink Floyd album.

Says Leon, “The film takes its own point of view at the chaotic pace that’s involved in our every-day life as a global society. The point of the film is to look at the mostly man-made chaos and contrast it with nature’s own process of going through time. In order to make the point, I changed the context of events so that the viewer can appreciate them from a different perspective. The music is an evolution from my last CD which was titled ‘2014 Music From An Expanded Universe’ and wasn’t recorded to fit the film but the other way around. I have always felt that my music is very cinematic in scope and making a film out of one of the pieces would be a natural move on my part.

“The CD itself has only two pieces of music on it. Originally I intended to release the music as a download-only single and the movie on my newly created Vimeo and YouTube channels. As I got deeper into the project I decided to get some CDs made for the collectivists out there. I suppose I could have waited until I had more music finished and release a full album or an EP but the reality is that I am also working on other projects that are quite different from this one and those projects will require a great deal of my attention. When I recorded 2014 with Trey Gunn, there were some tracks from those sessions that I felt could serve as a base for more music. I often wonder about my music, what if I do this to this piece or, what if I would have taken a different approach to the beginning of this piece? Those sorts of questions often lead me to either create new pieces or re-work older pieces. In this case, it led me to create the piece titled ‘Persistence. For the CD itself I decided to add one more piece of music. I decided on ‘Red Like Blood’ which is one of the pieces that was released with the 2014 CD. It also happens to be one of my personal favorite pieces. In this way, the CD will have close to 13 minutes of music but more importantly, it will have two of the pieces that I am most proud of. The sound still very much influenced by King Crimson but still very original in its own right.”

“Persistence” was a track that derived from an idea Leon had during the 2014 sessions. It was a track where he and Trey kept going back and forth in trying resolve some issues with the percussion tracks. Says Leon, “I was aiming at a percussion track that had a heavy improvisational feel to it and yet, kept a structure from which we could build on. Even though I somehow managed to kept it all in time and with a somewhat logical sense of phrasing, the overall sound came out a bit confusing and we couldn’t get the rest of the instruments to quite develop their own parts until I reworked the drums and percussion. In the end it all worked out fine and we were able to move forward. After a few months, I went back into the studio and expanded the piece. I also added more percussion tracks as well as other tracks including the sounds which can best be described as a mix between a drowning cat and something Adrian Belew would do if he played under water. Jokes aside though, the sounds were fun to work with and in my opinion, add a lot to the overall piece.”

As far as the film goes:
Says Leon, “Usually the difference between something looking professional or not is money. Making your own albums or making your own short films require lots of money which is something we could always use more of. I self-finance my projects so I have to be very conscious of where my money goes. Like many people I have big dreams but not enough funding to make them happen. Instead, I get creative with my approach. I have been fortunate enough to have travelled around the world. Some places leave a bigger impression than others but when I visited Japan it left a big impression on me. Tokyo is an amazing city that at night it takes a very science-fiction aura to it. It is a place where old traditions literally meet the latest in technology creating sometimes such a big contrast that can be taken as chaotic, depending on your point of view. To capture the frenetic pace of it was something that appeal to me. Like Tokyo, there are many places in the world that carry a similar sense of what I call ‘controlled chaos’. Vegas for example may not seem that chaotic despite the large mass of people walking the streets but when it’s viewed through time-lapse photography, it changes the way we perceive it and it starts to look more chaotic. And of course, in most of the places that I have visited I didn’t have a high-end video camera to capture everything I wanted to capture. When it came to make the film I went to a firm that specializes in handling stock footage and its rights. With the help of a friend of mine who’s in the video business, we looked at hours and hours of film stock before settling into what we would use for the short film. The real job came into editing all of the cuts that comprise the film. I hope that people will like it enough to share it with friends. My main goal is to reach as many people as possible to watch the short. The few people that I have shown the final cut seems to really like it which is always encouraging.”

Leon’s recordings date back to the late 70’s, but it wasn’t until 2008 that he released his first album, ‘Plays Genesis and Other Original Stuff’. The record drew on his strongest musical influences, primarily, the many styles in Genesis’s lengthy career. By this time he had been living in the United States for some time as an award-winning designer creating, among other things, artwork for album covers and promotional posters for many of the bands and musicians he had been originally impacted by, such as Jethro Tull, Roger Waters, Phil Collins, King’s X, Yes, Genesis and Jeff Beck. Approaching the work as both soundscape and visual has given Leon unique insight into broadening the experience as a whole.

By the time “Strangers in Strange Places” was released in 2010, Leon had refined his method and his vision, and it’s the audience who wins. “Strangers” features Brand X’s John Goodsall on guitar and the legendary drummer Bill Bruford (Yes, King Crimson, Earthwork) and reveals an intertwining of progressive rock and ambient textural sound that then blossoms in his third release, “2014, Music from an Expanded Universe”.

Not one to sit idle, Leon already has his next project slated for release in 2016, an album of original music featuring ex-Yes men, Billy Sherwood and Rick Wakeman, as well as a solo project of previously unreleased pieces. These push further into the artist’s evolution as a first foray into cinematic instrumentals and classically inspired composition.

In closing, Leon has this to impart, “I hope that people will watch the short film and listen to the music. My wish for this project is for it to make people take notice into my other projects and check for themselves what my music is about. I have had the good fortune to have worked with and featured some very well-know talented people in my projects. Some of them are my musical heroes, people like Bill Bruford, John Goodsall, Trey Gunn and Jerry Marotta to name a few.

“To the people that might have seen the name but aren’t too sure if they want to plunge at least a dollar for a download, please do. If you like bands like Genesis, Yes, King Crimson and Tangerine Dreams, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed and if for whatever reason you do end up disappointed, take refuge in knowing that it was only for the same price as a pack of cheap gum.

“Next for me is the completion of my latest album which is very different from my last CD and the music for the short film. It is a project that’s taken a lot longer than I ever anticipated but at the same time I didn’t want to rush just to release it. For that project, I have some very special guests like Billy Sherwood, who plays the guitars throughout the album and Rick Wakeman, who makes an appearance in one of the songs. The project is not quite finished so there is always a chance for other guest musicians to show up. I will also like to make more videos to go along the music of my existing catalogue so expect some of that. You can watch my videos, promos and interviews on my Vimeo or YouTube channels.”

The new CD single includes the tracks “Persistence” and “Red Like Blood” (from Leon’s “2014 Music From An Expanded Universe” album).

Unreleased Greg Lake & Geoff Downes Album “Ride The Tiger” Released – OUT NOW!

London, UK- Much to the excitement of music aficionados worldwide, an unreleased album by legendary GREG LAKE & GEOFF DOWNES titled “RIDE THE TIGER” has finally seen the light of day! Greg Lake is the co-founder of KING CRIMSON and EMERSON LAKE AND PALMER (ELP), and wrote the hit “LUCKY MAN” and co-wrote “I BELIEVE IN FATHER CHRISTMAS”. Geoff Downes is the keyboardist in THE BUGGLES, ASIA and YES, and co-wrote the hits “VIDEO KILLED THE RADIO STAR” and “HEAT OF THE MOMENT”.

“Ride the Tiger” contains six songs which the duo wrote together – one went on to became an ASIA song and two became ELP songs. Four of these tracks had been released on compilations before, but this is the FIRST TIME they have been collected together with TWO PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED tracks PLUS one alternate mix.

“To be honest I thought that these recordings had simply disappeared off the radar until one of my management team, Daniel Earnshaw, reminded me of their existence. My initial reaction was not entirely positive as I generally view many of these re-releases to be a bit tiresome, however, upon hearing these recordings again I immediately identified their value, both in terms of song writing and of musicianship and production. Geoff, of course, is a masterful musician with an instinctive ability to maximise the potential of any song both as a player and as an arranger. His contribution to these recordings is clear for all to see and for me it was a real pleasure to reflect upon our friendship together both personally and as musicians.” – Greg Lake

“One of the privileges of my career has been the opportunity to embrace a number of bespoke projects with some of the world’s greatest musicians. Greg Lake, of course was at the forefront of the progressive revolution, lead vocalist and bassist with both King Crimson and ELP, bands which literally changed the world, pushing boundaries of excellence and creativity, creating a brand new musical genre from London which would soon captivate the planet. This collection of songs represents a particularly creative period in my life. I’m delighted that Greg and I have rekindled our friendship, and worked together again in order to share this collection with you.” – Geoff Downes
