Psychedelic Music Legends The Electric Prunes Release New Live CD ‘WaS’

Los Angeles, CA – Electric Prunes fans are buzzing with excitement about the release of a new CD of unreleased live material titled ‘WaS’! Featuring 15 slamming cuts to keep you up at night! American psychedelic rock group The Electric Prunes first achieved international attention in the late 1960s. The band performed their 1966 hit song “I Had Too Much to Dream (Last Night)” on American Bandstand, and were also recognized for the song “Kyrie Eleison”, which was featured on the ‘Easy Rider’ soundtrack. After a period in which they had little control over their music, they disbanded for several years. In 1999, much to the delight of their fans worldwide, The Electric Prunes reformed, and resumed recording and touring!

And now an interplanetary message from James Lowe of the Electric Prunes…

“The Electric Prunes invite you, our closest friends, to a new adventure! WaS. That WaS the Electric Prunes! It has been a long journey here and we have waited till the planetary alignment was correct for a new release. The lunar eclipse signaled the start of something, tho no one is sure exactly what? We offer WaS as the saucer to fast forward you to the cosmic finish.

There is a fine line between ‘IS’ and ‘WAS’. If what you did is more important than what you are doing, you WAS. One moment you is and then you was. Somehow 1967 doesn’t seem much different from today; tastes change but I think people are always on the lookout for some fresh ideas from the ‘is’ that makes them remember the ‘was’.

Mark Tulin and I were collecting ideas and songs for our last adventure when he went through the door. I am not sure he is really gone because I hear his voice as clearly as if he were standing beside me. Usually, Mark and I would send each other song ideas back and forth until we had the rough story line and music in hand, then we would meet and pound everything into submission. This CD is a collection of those final ideas and messages between us and that is all we set out to present here; but a funny thing happened on the way to the recording studio. A new idea emerged behind a gig in Tokyo in an unusual snowstorm, and then someone sneezed on a girl in the subway, and a frozen winter chilled the planet; suddenly there were new thoughts, fresh ideas and new places to sketch our story in song. Everyone in the band felt it. Like a blast of energy. The ‘was’ became ‘is’.

The Electric Prunes have always been a little on the outside. Maybe it was the name? Maybe the music? In all, we have released 8 actual album offerings from the band (there are a few pretenders from the record company that we discount). Our legitimate recordings represent our thinking and, in some cases, lack of thinking. We were never mainstream enough to fret over what went on the records; witnessed by some of the goofy cuts we have released, we were just happy to be able to record our thoughts. It seems fitting that we release this 9th offering with the same abandon. This is a garage band and is not meant to be taken seriously. The music here is from all layers of the band from 1966 to 2014. This is a cool album, maybe the last we will ask you to support. But we do hope you will post it on the web and dance to it in the moonlight on 11! There is even a music video by the band for TOKYO floating around! Please bring your friends because the band wants to go out and play live one more time and we need you for that. Tell your local club to invite us. We will come…. We WaS but we still Is ….”

The 15-track CD features a throwback version of “Smokestack Lightning” from 2000 that was the band’s reunion call-to-arms with Ken Williams on lead guitar, Quint back up on drums, Mark Tulin on bass and an occasional harmonica by James Lowe. Original noise! There is also a live version of “Bullet Thru The Backseat” from a night in Bristol England featuring Williams, Lowe, Tulin, Dooley, more original fare.

That leaves 13 original new songs to be explored. “Earwash” for the initiated!

LA Punk Legends The Furys Return With A Vengeance!

Los Angeles – One of LA’s legendary Punk bands, The Furys, have returned to the music scene with a vengeance! Much to the excitement of fans worldwide, the reformed group has released a new self-titled 4-track EP now available on iTunes! The EP includes two new recordings by the group, “Wicked White” and “Tear It Down”, as well as their 1978 hit single “Say Goodbye To The Black Sheep”, and the track “The Girl Is Not At Home” from the band’s critically acclaimed 1988 EP on EMI!

Says founding member and lead vocalist Jeff Wolfe, “After numerous multi-generational requests, The Furys have been reformed to continue their campaign for world domination.”

According to Wolfe, “The Furys formed in 1977 as a reaction to the dreadful noise that was on the radio at that time.” The band was a forerunner in the DIY movement, writing, producing, performing, releasing, promoting and distributing their first single “Hey Ma/Jim Stark Dark” in 1977.

The Furys began performing all over Southern California after this first release. By 1978, the group released their second single “Say Goodbye to the Black Sheep”. The single received massive attention becoming an international underground hit, generating sales, radio play and an upswing in live markets. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPMtPepUf4g)

The press attention was extensive ranging from esteemed establishment publications such as the Los Angeles Times and Billboard to punk rock zines such as Slash and Flip Side. The group continued its live shows working stages with the likes of David Johansen, Iggy Pop, The Weirdos, Patti Smith, The Knack, the Plimsouls and many others. The Furys played anywhere and everywhere from the Whisky a Go Go to roller rinks in Orange County to punk rock warehouses in San Diego. In 1979, the band released their third single “We Talk We Dance/Moving Target” which continued the upward spiral.

In 1988 The Furys released their mini-album “Indoor/Outdoor” recorded at EMI/America. The album garnered huge college radio attention and the band continued its assault on the stages of America. (http://www.youtube.com/user/thefurysmusic)

Now, in the 21st century, the Furys have returned with a vengeance! The Furys are releasing new material, a box set of the classics, a live dvd and a documentary that threatens to tell all. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDED79YoNxY)

NYC Classic Rock ‘n’ Soul Band Rickity Featuring Members of The Lizards, Cactus & Vanilla Fudge Release Debut Album ‘Greatest Hits’

NYC – Highly anticipated debut album by “super group” Rickity, a New York City, classic rock ‘n’ soul band performing great original songs, is now available! Featuring bassist/harpist Randy Pratt, best known for his work with The Lizards, Cactus and Vanilla Fudge, the new album titled ‘Greatest Hits’ has been released on Hyperspace records. The band members have played, toured the world and recorded with Vanilla Fudge, Cactus, The Funky Knights, Seven Turns and The Lizards. In Rickity they have found their ultimate vehicle of expression. The seasoned rockers have added highly respected R&B vocalist Perrita Kitson and the combination is thrilling. Lead guitarist Jesse Berlin has the chops, soul and imagination to be at the top of the heavy rock universe. His solos are jaw dropping adventures.

Says Randy Pratt, “Our goal is to combine R&B, soul and blues with classic heavy riff rock. Perrita is the real deal. She spent her whole career in R&B, Soul and Jazz..this is her FIRST rock band!”

Perrita adds, “Rickity’s Recipe is take some hard core classic rock, add some funk, and divvy up some really colorful lyrical lines and you have ….. RICKITY. I hope the Rickity band will be appreciated and admired in representing classic rock.. all the way baby!”

The combination of heavy, classic riff rock, world class R&B, catchy hooks and a fearlessly sexy stance makes Rickity special. A Rickity concert has the feel of a “greatest hits” show…every song memorable. Perrita and percussionist/sampler Paul Gifford share lead vocals and do strong harmonies, insuring there is never a dull moment.

Says Randy, “The band formed in my basement, as usual…lol! Our new guitarist, Jesse Berlin, did his first gig with us on his 21st birthday! He’s spectacular! The two Pauls and I (Paul Latimer on guitar and keys, Paul Gifford on vocals, percussion and samples) have played together for decades. We can read each other’s minds and complete each other’s sentences. Neil Cicione is the engine of the band…a total badass on the drums.”

Rickity has shared stages with the likes of The Doobie Brothers, Billy Squier, Rare Earth and headlining as their star continues to rise. The band will be performing at B.B. King’s Blues Club in NYC on June 17, 2014, and the Sellersville Theater in Sellersville, PA opening for Black Oak Arkansas on July 3, 2014!

Watch Rickity live: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWndhuP2Zbw

Says Randy, “We can duplicate everything you hear on our CD live. We have two great singers and we’re tight as hell! We are a no B.S., muscular, classic rock band…accent on the HEAVY. We broke some rules with our combining of styles, but it feels natural and intense. Our songs are mostly about sex, so I guess our message is…ENJOY!”

Third World, One Of The Biggest Crossover Successes In Reggae Music, Returns With A Salute To The Hits Of Our Time!

Third World, One Of The Biggest Crossover Successes In Reggae Music, Returns With A Salute To The Hits Of Our Time!

Under The Magic Sun, An Incredible New Studio Album Featuring Superb And Inventive Versions Of Pop/Rock Classics To See Release June 10th On Cleopatra Records!

Los Angeles, CA – “Strictly a reggae band, no. Definitely a reggae band, yes.” So said Bunny Rugs about his band, the legendary Third World. While the band formed in 1973, and developed during the golden era of Jamaican roots reggae, they were never myopic in their musical vision. Third World have also incorporated folk-pop, hard rock, bossa nova, rap, light pop-jazz, doo-wop and calypso into their songs over the years. Their style has been described as reggae fusion. Under The Magic Sun contains Third World’s interpretations of classic hit songs such as Bread’s “Everything I Own,” REO Speedwagon’s “I Can’t Fight This Feeling Anymore,” CCR’s “Have You Ever Seen The Rain,” and more. Also included are new versions of the band’s own previous hits “96 Degrees” “Try Jah Love” & “Now That We Found Love.”

In their own words now about this project, let’s turn to the members of Third World.

Richard Daley
“We are very passionate about livicating this album to our dear brother Bunny Rugs who we lost in early 2014. He was recording with us during the beginning of the project but took ill midstream. We know he would be proud of this collection of Billboard Classics. This is the first album we have ever recorded that features 4 different lead vocalists in the group – Bunny Rugs, AJ Brown, Cat Coore and Maurice Gregory all share lead vocals on the project.”

Cat Coore
“The Under the Magic Sun project is by far the most interesting project I personally and Third World collectively have done for many years. Revisiting these great songs was a pleasure and an honor and I sincerely believe we will be successful with this Cleopatra Records project. ”

Maurice Gregory
“This Cleopatra album is a monster. Not only am I a musician, singer and producer on the project but I’m a fan of the Under the Magic Sun album. Taking these classics and putting that twist and the Third World feel to it was exciting and refreshing…it gives these tracks a new perspective.”

AJ Brown
“Working on Under The Magic Sun was a treat for me. It’s always a challenge to take a song that is already a certified hit, reinterpret it and give it a different twist that revitalizes the song to the point where it has the potential to become a hit again. I particularly liked the selection of hit songs and enjoyed infusing my own vocal interpretations. It was more of a joy than a challenge working on this project. I believe the group has met and even surpassed expectations.”

1. Put A Little Love In Your Heart
2. I Can’t Fight This Feeling
3. My Love
4. I Go Crazy
5. Have You Ever Seen The Rain
6. The Best Of My Love
7. Everything I Own
8. Into The Night
9. Inner City Blues
10. Walking In Rhythm
11. Try Jah Love cd only bonus track
12. Livication
13. 96 Degrees
14. Now That We Found Love

All-Star Concept Album Featuring Drum Legend Simon Phillips, Toto’s Joseph Williams, and Ex-Uriah Heep Member John Lawton Now Available!

Asheville, NC – Possibly the most anticipated new release of 2014, My Kind O’ Lovin’ featuring drum legend Simon Phillips, Toto’s Joseph Williams, and Ex-Uriah Heep/Lucifer’s Friend’s John Lawton, is now available! Released on the heels of 2012’s hit album The Power Of Mind, featuring John Lawton, My Kind O’ Lovin’ is another innovative new CD, conceived, written and produced by the CGI member, and as of very recently European Citizen of the Year (2013) Dr. Milen Vrabevski. This next charity project of his is dedicated to young talents in EU.

Says Milen, “I allowed myself to play acoustic guitar in just the title song this time. Nothing else. The team was just too good for my level. Happy they liked the pieces. Many thanks to the guys I started this project with, and worked on the arrangements: Ivo Stefanov and Svurry, and to the whole all star band for their devotion.”

Pulling up a chair at Classic Rock Revisited’s Best Releases 2012 with Intelligent Music Project I, The Power of Mind producer Milen Vrabevski is setting a high standard of expectations with his Intelligent Music Project II, My Kind O’ Lovin’. The producer’s next charity project goes to support education programs for talented kids. Milen was awarded European Citizen of the Year 2013 (by the EU Parliament), and a Member of the Clinton Global Initiative.

My Kind O’ Lovin’ features a colorful, multifarious and formidable listening experience with hints of melodic hard rock and early prog, featuring the fabulous Simon Phillips (Toto, Jeff Beck, The Who, Mike Oldfield, Protocol II etc.) on drums & percussion – brilliantly bringing out the chemistry of this unpredictable format of vintage vocals from John Lawton (ex-Uriah Heep) and Joseph Williams (Toto). Strong melodies and acoustic patterns with impressive vocals of undiminished power – this hefty emotional pool comes across in a very melodic way featuring great lead guitar and spacious orchestral flourishes.

The author translates to the audience his own experience & vision about everyday life topics in an easy manner, focusing on essential values – solid ground to step on to having a meaningful life.

Says Milen, “The message of the album is what I, as an author, would prefer to raise my kids with. Frustration, constant criticism, and judging people leads to nowhere. Therefore, we present essential things about love, friendship, our own environment we should invest in, getting into substantial initiatives, knowing happiness through serving the others, not limiting our minds with prejudice while seeking togetherness, understanding our life is in our hands, finishing off with the principle that it’s good to wake up knowing what follows is a great day, in which fame does not matter, and ego’s domination is retrograde, and you enjoy to live for the others, doing things not because of the result, but because you love to be that way.”

Watch the official My Kind O’ Lovin’ promotional video here:

Stand out tracks:

“Get Into Real” – if there is a song from this side act that connects the dots with some of William’s Toto-related cuts, this is it, but with hints of Led Zep to Asia nuances.

“Happiness”- a track so cool it deserves a trip around the world. You can take a magic trip through the positive messages of the album via Simple Game, Things We Can’t Do, Love Song to the rockin’ No One Can Deny It, Time To Move Along and other pieces on this hit collection.

“Conclusion” – a 6-minute summary of the composer’s key approaches throughout the album and presents the audience with the magnificent culmination of the super group Phillips-Lawton-Williams, the front-men format of Intelligent Music Project II.

Recording sessions for drums (Simon Phillips) and vocals (Joseph Williams) took place at Simon Phillips’ Phantom Recordings studio. Producer and composer Vrabevski was provided full creative input by Simon Philips in developing the course of compositions and musical ideas. Says Milen, “We recorded all drums and percussion, and Joe’s vocal parts at Simon’s recording studio in LA. Simon devotedly played the role of our music co-producer there too. Now he’s been kind enough to take part in finalizing all mixes of MKL tracks.”

Simon Phillips is an iconic English drummer and producer. He is also a prolific session drummer, and has played with such well known music artists as The Who, Judas Priest, Jeff Beck, Tears for Fears, Mike Oldfield, Pete Townshend, the late Gary Moore and many others.

Working on this project with Milen Vrabevski was so much fun and I find his enthusiasm for music is so uplifting.” – Simon Phillips

Joseph Williams was part of four Toto albums – Fahrenheit (1986), The Seventh One (1988), Toto XX (1988) and Falling in Between (2006). He has since re-joined the touring edition of Toto for a series of shows across Europe and Japan.

Milen was such a joy to work with .. Truly a warm and bright gentleman. It’s rare thing these days to work with such happy, enthusiastic talented people … I had a ball!!” – Joseph Williams

John Lawton, who split with Uriah Heep in 1979, was featured on the albums Innocent Victim (1977), Firefly (1977), Fallen Angel (1978) and Live ’79 and is considered the best singer around the British heavy progressive rock institution. After recording the conceptual album The Power Of Mind, Intelligent Music Project I, he joins the super group with Phillips and Williams in the second project of Bulgarian producer and composer Milen Vrabevski – My Kind O’ Lovin’.

“My Kind O’ Lovin’….Intelligent Music Project II….was for me an absolute pleasure to sing, the melodies flowing out of Milen Vrabevski’s head seem to be endless. The album differs a lot from The Power Of Mind, not only in that there are guest artist’s in the caliber of Joseph Williams and Simon Phillips both of Toto fame but some searing guitar work from a little known Bulgarian axe man known only to me as Sverri. I spent 2 weeks laying down lead & backing vocals in Intelligent Music’s new studio in Sofia / Bulgaria and believe me it wasn’t hard work, not when the music is this good.” – John Lawton

Leon Russell, Steve Morse & Pat Travers Lead A Stellar Cast Of Music Superstars On This Tribute To The Legendary Allman Brothers Band!

Also features Commander Cody, Molly Hatchet, The Oak Ridge Boys, Artimus Pyle Band, Reese Wynans (Double Trouble), Tinsley Ellis, Robben Ford & more!

Los Angeles, CA – One of music’s biggest and most influential juggernauts gets the respect and admiration they so richly deserve on this brand new tribute album available May 27th from Cleopatra Records! Featuring an eclectic group of rock, country, and blues legends, Midnight Rider – A Tribute To The Allman Brothers Band offers energetic new covers of the classic hits “Midnight Rider,” “Ramblin’ Man,” and “Whipping Post” as well as one of the most famous instrumental songs in all of rock music “Jessica,” alongside many more Southern fried favorites!

“The Allman Brothers were a central part of my roots,” proclaims guitarist Steve Morse, who shreds his way through a smoldering version of “Whipping Post” on the album. “Living in Georgia much of my life, they were the local legends that everybody loved. They had the swing, the inventive double guitar parts, the ability to jam just long enough to keep the audience, and that golden voice of Greg’s! When my instrumental rock band, the Dixie Dregs, played, we often played ‘Jessica,’ which automatically makes any audience start moving and smiling. I’ve been lucky enough to sit in with many of the members at various times, and we have shared a lot of common ground. I’m still a fan!”

Duane Allen, lead vocalist for country legends The Oak Ridge Boys, declares, “‘Ramblin’ Man’ is the national anthem of Southern Rock & Roll, so it is a huge honor to be asked to be a part of this tribute.” Allen’s sentiments are echoed by several other participants including blues guitarist Eric Gales who considered it a “great honor” and Tinsley Ellis who also speaks enthusiastically of the group as “one of a handful of musical acts, along with Ray Charles and Willie Nelson, that are considered to be a genre unto themselves. It is a great honor to be among the other stellar acts paying tribute to such a legendary and influential American band.”

Speaking for a next generation of blues rock artists, Eli Cook offers both high praise and a word of advice: “The Allman Brothers’ story of talent, hard work, and blind devotion to creating an honest and unique sound is one that every artist should study and imitate. Just as they cut their teeth on Taj Mahal, Cream, Elmore James, and all the great early R&B artists, today’s players are wise to woodshed with the Eat A Peach and Live At The Fillmore albums.” Or just pick up a copy of Midnight Rider – A Tribute To The Allman Brothers Band and let these boys show you how it’s done!

1. Midnight Rider – Pat Travers
2. Ramblin’ Man – Oak Ridge Boys, Tinsley Ellis & Kevin McKendree

Herald de Paris Interview with Judy Collins

judy-collins

A Paris Conversation with the Legendary Judy Collins
By Al Carlos Hernandez on May 21, 2014

HOLLYWOOD (Herald de Paris) – Judy Collins has inspired audiences with sublime vocals, vulnerable songwriting, personal life triumphs, and a firm commitment to social activism. In the 1960’s, she evoked both the idealism and steely determination of a generation united against social and environmental injustices. Five decades later, her presence shines brightly as new generations find solace in her iconic 50 album body of work, and heed inspiration from her spiritual discipline to succeed in the music industry for half a century.

She is the Judy of whom the Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young’s 70’s anthem, Suite; Judy Blue Eyes, pays homage.
In March of this year the much-anticipated Judy Collins Live In Ireland, CD/DVD on Cleopatra Records was released to rave reviews. The CD/DVD was recorded during a concert at Dromoland Castle on September 29, 2013, for PBS broadcast. For those who missed the concert, fans worldwide can enjoy this inspiring set of Judy’s most beloved hits along with her favorite Celtic folk songs and stories (including duets with Irish singer Mary Black & NY singer-songwriter Ari Hest, via CD/DVD)

The award-winning singer-songwriter is esteemed for her imaginative interpretations of traditional and contemporary folk standards and her own poetically poignant original compositions. Her memorable and haunting rendition of Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now” from her landmark 1967 album, Wildflowers, has been entered into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Judy’s dreamy and sweetly intimate version of “Send in the Clowns”, a ballad written by Stephen Sondheim for the Broadway musical “A Little Night Music”, won Song of the Year at the 1975 Grammy Awards. She’s garnered several top-ten hits as well as gold and platinum selling albums. Recently, contemporary and classic artists such as Rufus Wainwright, Shawn Colvin, Arlo Guthrie, Joan Baez, and Leonard Cohen honored her legacy with the albumBorn to the Breed: A Tribute to Judy Collins.

Judy began her impressive music career at the age of 13 as a piano prodigy, impressing audiences performing Mozart’s “Concerto for Two Pianos”, but the hard luck tales and rugged sensitivity of folk revival music by artists such as Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger seduced her away from a life as a concert pianist. Her path pointed to a lifelong love affair with the guitar and the pursuit of emotional truth in lyrics. The focus and regimented practice of classical music, however, would be a source of strength to her inner core as she navigated through the highs and lows of the music business.

For the rest of the biography and the interview, please visit the Herald de Paris website!

Legendary Curved Air Founding Member Darryl Way To Release New Prog Album ‘Children of the Cosmos’

“…a trail blazing rock violinist and composer!”

London, UK – Much to the excitement of prog fans worldwide, legedary Curved Air founding member and violinist, Darryl Way is releasing a new album on Right Honourable Records, via Cherry Red on May 19, 2014.

‘Children of the Cosmos’ is Way’s first prog album in over twenty years and demonstrates his creative view of Progressive Rock, forty years after being one of the early founders of the genre. ‘Children of the Cosmos’ features 12 new tracks showcasing Way’s original compositional, rock violin and vocal skills.

A promo video for the title track has been released on YouTube: http://youtu.be/LSoFBKfV-Vo

Says Darryl, “With ‘Children of the Cosmos’ I have tried to recreate the spirit of experimentation that led to the ‘Progressive Rock’ movement of the late 60s and early 70s. As I did in the early days of Curved Air, I have tried to integrate my classical background with rock music, to create soundscapes that are hopefully both exciting and innovative.”

Way continued, “The lyrics for the songs are my observations of our current environment and the world we live in, echoing some of the issues touched upon in the music of the late 60s. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to pass this way once more and I hope that rock fans will enjoy this album, as much as I did creating it.”

Originally formed in 1969, Curved Air was a groundbreaking progressive art-rock band renowned for their showmanship. Darryl Way was noted for his flamboyant virtuoso exploration of the electric violin. He wrote the music for the Top 10 hit (reached #4) “Back Street Luv” and was a major contributor to three Top 20 albums. With Curved Air he toured extensively, performing in practically every major city in both America and Europe.

After Curved Air Darryl went on to release several critically acclaimed solo albums in both ‘rock’ and ‘classical’ genres. Among these, was his ‘Concerto For Electric Violin’…and now, he will be releasing his highly anticipated new CD ‘Children of the Cosmos’!
