Roger Waters Guitar Legend Dave Kilminster Releases Long Awaited New Solo Album
…and THE TRUTH will set you free… OUT NOW!

London, UK – Guitar virtuoso David Kilminster, best known for his work with Roger Waters and Keith Emerson, is preparing to release an exciting new rock album titled ‘…and THE TRUTH will set you free…’! This incredible project sees Dave reunited with drummer Pete Riley and bassist Phil Williams who toured with Dave as part of the Keith Emerson Band, and also recorded with Dave on his first solo rock album ‘Scarlet – The Director’s Cut’.

Says Dave about his new CD, “I returned from THE WALL tour, both exhausted and exhilarated, and ready to direct all of that inspiration, passion and creativity into a new project. A year later, I held the master for this album in my hand… knowing it’s undoubtedly the best solo work I’ve ever done…”

For the last eight years Dave was the featured lead guitarist with ROGER WATERS, joining Roger on his last two record breaking world tours; ‘THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON LIVE’, and (the highest grossing tour by a solo act EVER) ‘THE WALL LIVE’!

Critics agree that David Kilminster is one of the most extraordinary talents to emerge from the UK. He is a sought after collaborator, band member and solo performer. After touring and collaborating a number of years with ELP legend Keith Emerson, fans will also know Dave from his work along side luminaries John Wetton, Carl Palmer, Geoff Downes, Guthrie Govan and John Young, among others.

Dave has released a series of instructional DVDs for Lick Library after the success of his global satellite series ‘Killer Guitar’. Dave also won the inaugural ‘Guitarist of the Year’ competition, run by Guitarist magazine.

Kinks Legend and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Dave Davies To Release New Album ‘Rippin Up Time’!

Kinks Legend and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Dave Davies To Release New Album ‘Rippin Up Time’!

London, UK – The man who forever changed the sound of rock ‘n’ roll when he invented distortion, Kinks legend Dave Davies, has recorded a brand new solo album of all original material called ‘Rippin’ Up Time’ on New York based Red River Entertainment. Produced by Dave Davies & David Nolte, the new CD features 10 original new songs written in the classic Kinks style that fans of all ages will want to hear. Listen to ‘Rippin Up Time’ here.

Dave Davies founded the Kinks in the early 1960’s and forever changed music after he sliced up the speaker cone of a little green amp and created a revolutionary, distorted guitar tone and frenetic solo on the song “You Really Got Me”. Musicologist Joe Harrington described the Kinks influence: “ ‘You Really Got Me’, ‘All Day And All Of The Night’ … were predecessors of the whole three-chord genre … The Kinks did a lot to help turn rock n roll into rock.” In 1998, writer Bill Crowley wrote, “As lead guitarist and founder of The Kinks, Dave Davies is one of the most unpredictable and original forces in rock, without whom guitar-rock styles including heavy metal and punk would have been inconceivable. A member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Dave’s massive guitar sounds have inspired bands from Van Halen to Green Day.”

Dave explains that ‘Rippin Up Time’ is about “a man’s reflections of the past, his fears, anxieties and optimism about the present and hopeful expectations about the future. I had a lot of ideas in my head thinking about the past and how we started and the Kinks and my own life and the present and what’s happening with my life now and concerns and worries, anxieties about the future. I suddenly had an image of all the times overlapping as if they’re all in one place in my mind. I thought I’d just write it from the point of view of a dream. It’s a mixture of emotions that I was going through as I was writing the songs, some would be happy or reflective or sad.”

Hard hitting tracks “Johnny Adams”, “Nosey Neighbours” and title track “Rippin Up Time” show Dave’s classic riffs, distinctive singing and playing style while songs like “Semblance of Sanity” and “Mindwash” take the listener to otherworldly, inner landscapes. Dave’s son musician/producer Russ Davies’ appearance is a surprise treat with his smokey vocals on “In the Old Days” and “Through my Window”. Says Dave, “It was wonderful working with my son Russ Davies and old friend David Nolte on this project and am really excited about the album.” Dave’s accent and cockney brogue gives a delightful English flavour to many tracks. He shows his sensitive side in the pensive, futuristic ballad “Between the Towers” while “King of Karaoke” takes a humorous look at many people’s favorite pastime. David Nolte’s musical contributions and thoughtful co-production throughout ‘Rippin Up Time’ reveals an inspiring creative collaboration. Former E1 and PolyGram executive Bob Frank’s Red River label which is distributed via Sony RED in the US is proud to be releasing ‘Rippin Up Time’ due out on October 28, 2014.

In a recent interview with Andy Greene of Rolling Stone, Dave imparted, “I like to work quick. You want to attack an idea when it’s living and breathing. I didn’t want to reach the stage where I heard the songs so many times I began to second guess myself, which has happened in the past.” (read the entire Rolling Stone interview here)

Since the early days, Dave Davies has worked on a slew of critically acclaimed records, ranging from solo hit single “Death of a Clown”, to experimental Kinks records like ‘Village Green Preservation Society’ and ‘Arthur’ as well as the classic ‘Lola’ in the 70’s. In the 80’s Dave released experimentally prescient solo work like the eponymous album titled ‘Dave Davies’ or ‘AFL1-3603’ named after himself and/or the barcode symbol face cover art. His mainstream success continued in the 80’s on hit Kinks albums ‘Low Budget’ and ‘State of Confusion’. In the 90’s he released more solo work such as ‘Bug’ and the compilation ‘Unfinished Business’. His songs have been featured in films by John Carpenter and on TV shows like ‘The Sopranos’, which used his tune “Living On A Thin Line”. His tell-all autobiographical book ‘Kink’ was well received in the late 90’s as well. In recent years, Dave has collaborated creatively with his sons. In 2010 he worked with son Russell Davies in the Aschere Project to create the hauntingly, beautiful rock electronica album ‘Two Worlds’. The film ‘Mystical Journey’, directed by son Martin Davies, narrates Dave’s longtime interest in the paranormal, Eastern philosophies and spirituality (the film inspired Julien Temple s BBC documentary ‘Kinkdom Kome’). In 2013 Dave released ‘I Will Be Me’ on Cleopatra Records. No matter how diverse the ambition, Dave Davies puts his heart and soul in all of his projects.

Ever the visionary legend always ahead of his time, from slashing up a speaker cone all those years ago to his new release ‘Rippin In Time’, Dave Davies, rocks the past, present and, no doubt, the future!

Captain Beefheart ‘Le Nouvel Hippodrome, Paris 1977’ Rare Concert Recording Now Available!

London, UK – Much to the excitement of Captain Beefheart fans worldwide, Gonzo Multimedia just released on DBL CD a rare live recording of the Captain in concert at the Le Nouvel Hippodrome in Paris on November 19, 1977! Don Van Vliet (born Don Glen Vliet; January 15, 1941 – December 17, 2010) was an American musician, singer-songwriter, artist and poet known by the stage name Captain Beefheart. His musical work was conducted with a rotating ensemble of musicians called the Magic Band (1965–1982), with whom he recorded 13 studio albums. Noted for his powerful singing voice with its wide range, Van Vliet also played the harmonica, saxophone and numerous other wind instruments. His music blended rock, blues and psychedelia with avant-garde and contemporary experimental composition. Beefheart was also known for exercising an almost dictatorial control over his supporting musicians, and for often constructing myths about his life.

During his teen years in Lancaster, California, Van Vliet developed an eclectic musical taste and formed friendship with Frank Zappa, with whom he sporadically collaborated. He began performing with his Captain Beefheart persona in 1964 and joined the original Magic Band line-up, initiated by Alexis Snouffer, in 1965. The group drew attention with their cover of Bo Diddley’s “Diddy Wah Diddy”, which became a regional hit. It was followed by their acclaimed debut album ‘Safe As Milk’, released in 1967 on Buddah Records. After being dropped by two consecutive record labels, they signed to Zappa’s Straight Records. As producer, Zappa granted Beefheart unrestrained artistic freedom in making 1969’s ‘Trout Mask Replica’, which ranked 58th in Rolling Stone magazine’s 2003 list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. In 1974, frustrated by lack of commercial success, he released two albums of more conventional rock music that were critically panned; this move, combined with not having been paid for a European tour, and years of enduring Beefheart’s strict discipline, led the entire band to quit. Beefheart eventually formed a new Magic Band with a group of younger musicians and regained contemporary approval through three final albums: ‘Shiny Beast (Bat Chain Puller)’ (1978), ‘Doc At The Radar Station’ (1980) and ‘Ice Cream For Crow’ (1982).

Van Vliet has been described as “…one of modern music’s true innovators” with “…a singular body of work virtually unrivaled in its daring and fluid creativity.” Although he achieved little commercial or mainstream critical success, he sustained a cult following as a ‘highly significant’ and ‘incalculable’ influence on an array of New Wave, punk, post-punk, experimental and alternative rock musicians. Known for his enigmatic personality and relationship with the public, Van Vliet made few public appearances after his retirement from music (and from his Beefheart persona) in 1982. He pursued a career in art, an interest that originated in his childhood talent for sculpture, and a venture that proved to be his most financially secure. His expressionist paintings and drawings command high prices, and have been exhibited in art galleries and museums across the world. Van Vliet died in 2010, having suffered from multiple sclerosis for many years.

This extraordinary record catches the Captain at his best; live on stage in 1977. A few days after the show he said:

“This band is so good – the best I have ever had! They play with a smile. They really breathe up there when they are playing. After all this time I have finally found the band I’m looking for. It’s amazing! Playing with this group is like going for a walk: they are so happy when they play. People I meet from the audience have been coming up and telling me how pleased they are that I have finally found a band that I am content with – and they are right.

“The gig we played in Paris was monstrous. It was three days ago, but I haven’t slept since – it was so good! And my voice, well, I can still feel that show in my voice. It hit me so hard I am down to three octaves …. I couldn’t get over the way the audience was singing along with it, singing the words back at me in English – and I don’t speak a word of French.

“This group, I tell you, I couldn’t believe that there were such nice people still around on this earth. True, they are playing what I have written, but they really are playing. This band is moving so fast that very soon I won’t have to tell them anything. I really must say this band is the best …”

World-Renowned Guitar Player Steve Hunter Releases Live CD & DVD ‘Tone Poems Live’

“Steve is a wonderful musician with great chops and a big heart.” – Peter Gabriel

Los Angeles, CA – For the first time ever, Blues Rock Guitarist Steve Hunter, renowned for his work with Peter Gabriel, Lou Reed and Alice Cooper, is captured on film playing a career-spanning anthology in an intimate setting with some of the worlds finest players.

Also featuring Tony Levin, Phil Aaberg and Alvino Bennett!

The DVD, titled ‘Tone Poems Live’, was filmed on August 24th 2013 at a recording studio in LA. Alongside Steve was Tony Levin on Bass (Peter Gabriel, King Crimson) Phil Aaberg on Keyboards (Elvin Bishop, Peter Gabriel) Alvino Bennett on Drums (Dave Mason, Robin Trower).

They rehearsed for two days and filmed on the third day as though it were in front of an audience. Fourteen tunes, each played twice, with no overdubs added later. The material was chosen from most of Steve’s solo albums plus a few covers, including ‘Solsbury Hill’ ‘What’s Going On’ and Stevie Ray Vaughan’s ‘Riviera Paradise’.

“The soulful notes that Steve Hunter plays have the perfect balance of fat warm tone, taste and personality” – Steve Vai

This is the first time Steve Hunter has ever been filmed doing his own material plus material of his own choice. Steve is now legally blind and although not out of the question, touring has become more of a challenge. The recording session was produced and recorded by Brian Brinkerhoff and Paul Lani.

Tony Levin: “Steve is one of those wonderful musicians who speaks from the heart”

Phil Aaberg: “There’s something about the subtlety, the texture and the tone quality that he gets with an individual note, to me that’s a great guitar player”

Alvino Bennett: “I’m hearing all three Kings; Albert, BB and Freddy”

Jason Becker: “I can’t put into words how much your soul comes out of your fingers. Everyone should see and hear this DVD”!

“A brilliant work…Al Kooper’s finest!”

Camarillo, CA – Exploding onto the scene as a band determined only to expand the boundaries of popular music, Blood, Sweat & Tears immediately made their mark as virtuoso players with an important vision and statement. Calling on Rock, R&B, Jazz and even Classical influences, the band, led by Al Kooper, made what remains one of the truly inspired, groundbreaking records of the late ’60s. Now much to the excitement of BS&T and Al Kooper fans worldwide, Marshall Blonstein’s Audio Fidelity is reissuing the band’s critically acclaimed debut album ‘Child Is Father To The Man’ on 5.1 Multichannel Hybrid SACD!

Australian Prog Artist Ben Craven To Release New Single Through Innovative Music Delivery System ‘TuneLeak’

Australian Prog Artist Ben Craven To Release New Single Through Innovative Music Delivery System ‘TuneLeak’

“Seriously well-distilled and blended” – Van Dyke Parks

Brisbane, Australia – Much to the excitement of prog music aficionados across the planet, Australian cinematic progressive-rock singer-songwriter Ben Craven is releasing his new single through an innovative new music delivery system he’s developed called ‘TuneLeak’. Ben Craven’s new single titled “Critical Mass Part 2” is now available through TuneLeak at http://www.tuneleak.com.

Ben explains, “This project is being driven by music industry commentators saying the album is dead. I agree it’s an endangered species, at least commercially. As a musician and a listener, I’m very attached to the concept of albums as coherent collections of songs and all the emotional ties we make with them. So for this album I’m trying a different business model – which I’m calling ‘TuneLeak’ – where I can engage the audience at every step of the recording process, officially ‘leak’ songs well before they’re finished, and hopefully even get paid!”

The new single is part of Craven’s highly anticipated forthcoming third album tentatively titled ‘Last Chance To Hear’. Says Ben, “’Critical Mass Part 2′ is the first song I’ve recorded for the album, and the first track I’m putting out there on the TuneLeak website. It’s a short, sharp instrumental, and sounds like outer-space spy music. There is of course a ‘Part 1’ and I’ll be leaking that track very soon as well!”

Hailing from Brisbane, Australia, immersed as a toddler in the era of big prog rock, Craven taught himself guitar and keyboards and joined a series of bands. None of them remotely played the kind of music that had been burned into his mainframe as a kid. Nonetheless, the songs he wrote accumulated steadily. In 2005, Craven dispensed entirely with the band approach and recorded his debut album, ‘Two False Idols’ under the name of Tunisia. The result was a work of incredible maturity, with influences ranging from Pink Floyd and Brian Wilson to the likes of Bernard Herrmann and John Barry.

Says Ben, “My usual suspect influences are Pink Floyd, Mike Oldfield, Yes and King Crimson. But just as important are composers like Bernard Herrmann, John Barry, Henry Mancini and John Williams. I seem to blend progressive music with film soundtrack elements. I’m also a Brian Wilson tragic.”

As Craven worked his first album it became painfully obvious that the music business was in the midst of a sea change, and most of the old guard didn’t seem to realise they were the cause. Very quickly he took an anti-DRM stance and released the live acoustic EP ‘Under Deconstruction’ as a high-quality free download.

Craven stepped up a gear for his sophomore album, ‘Great & Terrible Potions’. Delivering on the cinematic promise of ‘Two False Idols’, ‘Potions’ went widescreen (literally) as Craven blurred the boundaries between conventional songs and orchestral soundtracks. Augmented by a stunning cover designed by legendary artist Roger Dean (Yes, Uriah Heep, Asia), ‘Potions’ was dense, complicated and unashamedly pretentious – everything a good prog rock album should be! Or, to put it another way, Craven sounded exactly like someone revelling in the creative freedom that could come only from not worrying about what others wanted, and delivering what he felt instead.

And now Ben is working on his latest masterpiece! He explains, “In keeping with the idea of the album as an endangered species, the working title is ‘Last Chance To Hear’. It’s shaping up to be another solo album in the true sense of the word where I play just about everything, like on my previous album ‘Great & Terrible Potions’. The difference this time is a much greater portion will likely be instrumental. Not that I dislike vocals, but sometimes the music can be strong and emotional and moving enough to stand on its own without them.”

Here’s what the press raved about Ben Craven’s previous release:

“Heavy-duty prog rock monster” – Anil Prasad, Innerviews

“Cracking virtuoso performance by an absurdly talented individual” – Classic Rock Society

“Craven’s one-man-band production is a prog opus for the 21st century” – Musoscribe

“All the drama, thunder, strum and drang you could want the spiritual grand child of Rick Wakeman and Keith Emerson to bring” – Midwest Record

“Craven’s tremendous ability to combine memorable hooks with complex progressive rock and cinematic orchestral music is astounding” – Sea Of Tranquility

“Press play and this album does the rest” – Muzikreviews

In closing Ben has this to impart to his fans and listeners, “The music business is becoming an increasingly cynical place. The landscape is dominated by reissues, remixes and repacking of old material in what feels like a ‘last hurrah’. But there are still true believers out there flying under the radar and producing music primarily out of love and obsession. Not because of contractual obligations, deadlines or other market forces. I’d still be making music if the industry was truly dead and buried. But I’d much rather people listened to it!”

The TuneLeak Manifesto

TuneLeak is a different approach for releasing music. It’s like getting to know someone gradually over a meaningful period of time, rather than telling them you love them on the first date. Most importantly, it’s about albums. That is, TuneLeak features albums as they’re being recorded.

As each individual song is worked on, the artist will “leak” an early version. It might just be a rough demo. Or it could be almost complete. It will probably sound different when the album is finished. But it will be out there for all to hear.

These leaked tracks (“TuneLeaks”!) will be available for purchase as digital downloads. When the album is finally released, TuneLeak customers will receive a discount equal to the total amount they spent on purchasing the leaked tracks from that album. So, if you download, say, five “TuneLeaks” from a particular artist at $1 per track, you’ll receive a $5 discount on the album. You won’t pay twice for the same song.

It’s not quite crowdfunding. It’s not quite pre-ordering. It’s artists and audiences coming together on the creative journey of making an album.

CURVED AIR Lead Singer SONJA KRISTINA Receives Guiding Light Award
at the PROG Awards 2014

London, UK – Sonja Kristina has been honoured at the prestigious PROG Magazine Awards night held at the Globe Theatre in London.

Sonja Kristina said “It is a great honour to receive The Guiding Light Award. I didn’t think very far ahead when I first started out but I feel very blessed now after so many years to be still creating and releasing new albums and performing with such superb musicians in Curved Air. I always did love the camaraderie of being on the road and the alchemy of performance.”

PROG editor Jerry Ewing added “The Guiding Light Award is for those artists who offer inspiration through their actions. As one of the leading ladies of a genre once thought of as very much a male domain, Sonja has been a pioneering spirit in the prog world, and an inspiration to the now many female artists in the genre who have followed on. I cannot think of a better suited recipient.”

The band is best known for its hits “Back Street Luv”, “It Happened Today” and “Vivaldi”. The current line-up also features original drummer Florian Pilkington-Miksa, classic era guitarist Kirby Gregory alongside Robert Norton (keys), Chris Harris (bass) and Paul Sax (violin).

Curved Air has been going from strength to strength ‎since the recent release of the band’s first studio album to feature new material in nearly 40 years, NORTH STAR.

The band had previously released LIVE ATMOSPHERE and will shortly embark on a UK tour ahead of a worldwide tour in 2015.

Patrick Moraz Interview: The Extraordinary Keyboardist & Composer/ Prior Member of ‘YES’ & ‘The Moody Blues’

By Ray Shasho

-Interviewed June 24th 2014

Swiss native Patrick Moraz is the extraordinary keyboardist and composer for no less than two legendary rock groups … ‘YES’ (1974-76) and ‘The Moody Blues’ (1978-1991). His first solo album entitled ‘The Story of i’ was hailed by many critics as a musical masterpiece.
Patrick Moraz is busier than ever these days. He was recently featured on the new CD ‘Light My Fire-A Classic Rock Salute to The Doors,’ Moraz performed on the opening track … “L.A. Woman” with the late Jimi Jamison (Survivor) and Ted Turner (Wishbone Ash).

Moraz was also one of the performers on the recent ‘Cruise to the Edge’ which also featured … ‘YES,’ Steve Hackett, UK, Queensryche, Tangerine Dream, Renaissance, Strawbs, Tony Levin and a host of other progressive rockers.

Patrick Moraz has several upcoming and surprising releases to watch out for including … (MAP) ‘The Greg Alban Project,’ which will feature Lenny Castro on percussion and John Avila from ‘Oingo Boingo’ on bass, Patrick Perrier, and Matt Malley. A CD entitled… ‘A way to Freedom’ due in the very near future, and a Cantata in the final works for SATB Choirs in 7 movements, paying homage to ‘Our Planet.’

PATRICK MORAZ: began his fascination with the keyboards at a very young age. He attentively watched and listened to Romanian concert pianist Clara Haskil while living at the same house in Vevey, Switzerland. Moraz attended the Conservatory of Lausanne and studied Harmony and Counterpoint (the Art of the fugue). Patrick’s father managed restaurants which included theaters and stages, and Patrick was able to meet such music luminaries as … Louis Armstrong, Maurice Chevalier, Lionel Hampton, Count Basie, and Duke Ellington.
