For Immediate Release

Roots Rock Singer-Songwriter and Guitarist Griff Peters To Release Debut Solo Album Canyons and Waves Feb 10, 2023

Nature has always been spiritually grounding for singer-songwriter and guitarist Griff Peters. A few years ago, when the San Diego, California-based roots rock artist was mired in a heart-wrenching personal struggle, he went out to the beach and sat down on a rock formation. There, Griff asked himself this question: if he was told he had a year to live, what would he do?

The answer was simple—make his solo debut, Canyons and Waves (Impropriety Records), a deep and sincere body of work crafted by a skilled and experienced artist with a worthy message of hope within darkness. That very rock formation graces the cover of the album, and from that fateful day on, Griff’s life has been powerfully transformed. Griff says “This is the long-awaited showing-up for my own life as an artist. The music paints a picture of an inner-knowing and the rekindling of hope when we feel lost. Canyons and Waves is a musical journey illuminating the Healing Path from darkness and pain back to gratitude and presence. Imagine the “Canyon” as the mysterious and intricate groove on a vinyl record. The “Wave” is the transformative sound energy coming forth… amplified, multiplied… leading lost souls homeward.”

Griff’s signature musical voice is best described as “artistic roots-rock,” an amalgamation of rural Americana, blues, folk, elements of avant-garde, prog, and album-side rock.  Besides being a sage and sensitive songwriter, and soulful vocalist, Griff is a subtly virtuosic guitarist and a tone poet. He can coax a bevy of soundscapes with just his hands, from dirty Delta-blues, to stinging and firey rock, to pastoral folk, to sensual and lyrical slide playing, to sweet country filigree, and beyond.

Griff is a musician’s musician who as a sideman guitarist has performed, recorded and toured internationally with artists such as John Mayer, Billie Myers, Bryan Beller (Joe Satriani, The Aristocrats, Dethklok), Nina Storey, and the Mike Keneally Band (Frank Zappa, Andy Partridge, Steve Vai). Griff is the founder of Hilltop Frog Recording Studios, and the indie label Impropriety Records.

Griff Peters plays gorgeous guitar” – Mike Keneally

Born into a musical family in Southern California, Griff started playing piano when he was very young. He quickly infuriated his piano teacher by neglecting beginner’s classical studies in favor of learning intricate ragtime and boogie-woogie songs by ear.

After discovering his grandfather’s old electric guitar at age 14, Griff discovered his passion and innate abilities to play Chicago electric blues and more modern blues rock. By his senior year in high school, he was sneaking out early to study music at the local college. Soon, Griff was a teen professional musician with a full schedule. He attended college classes in the morning; gave guitar lessons in the evening; and gigged in smoky bars late at night. Eventually, he graduated with honors from Berklee College of Music.

Griff would go on to have an impressive career in music, but the need to create his own solo album was always present. “I finally dispensed with all the excuses, purged my calendar and focused my mind towards creating a serious artistic statement. Immediately, musical ideas just flooded in,” Griff reveals. Canyons and Waves is the result of this all-consuming outpouring of songs. “The songwriting and recording stage was a prolific period of happy insanity. I wrote, recorded and produced all the music at my own facility, Hilltop Frog Studios in California. From the very beginning, I envisioned the Canyons and Waves album as a vinyl release. Vinyl enjoys undeniable appeal and clout, especially in modern times. The proven combination of both sonic excellence and time-tested longevity remains the artistic high-water mark of the recorded music medium. I’m very blessed to see my vision of this album fulfilled as a deluxe double-vinyl album with exceptional artwork and quality, like my favorite records from the past.”

Outside of music Griff enjoys exploring the deep spiritual aspects of nature, art, photography, and the Zen practice of rock balancing. Griff’s photography is intrinsically linked to the Canyons and Waves experience, with his 24-page liner notes of breathtaking images featured as a visual compendium to the music on the deluxe 45-RPM 180-gram double-vinyl available at griffpeters.com. “I wanted to compliment the auditory experience of the songs with striking visuals of peace, hope, and joy from different stages of my life,” Griff shares.

Griff will be promoting Canyons and Waves with shows and videos of the songs being performed live in the studio, onstage, and in breathtaking natural expanses. He will also be performing and releasing more new songs in the months ahead. Reflecting back on his epiphanic journey, Griff says: “Music says things that cannot be said otherwise. It reaches people’s hearts in places that cannot be reached by any other way. I’m using music this time around to transcend barriers and gently say ‘Hey – I’ve been there, too, but now I’ve found a better way.’”

“Dark Shadows” Legend Kathryn Leigh Scott Releases New Edition of “Marcel Marceau: Master of Mime” Book

For Immediate Release

Dark Shadows Legend Kathryn Leigh Scott Releases New Edition of Marcel Marceau: Master of Mime Book

Marcel Marceau Honored By Centenary Celebration Exhibit at THE NATIONAL ARTS CLUB — MARCH 9 through APRIL 28, 2023

Legendary actress Kathryn Leigh Scott, best known for her roles on Gothic soap opera Dark Shadows as Maggie Evans and Josette DuPres, and book publisher, is releasing a new edition of Marcel Marceau: Master of Mime, a book featuring photos by her former husband, Time/Life photographer Ben Martin.

Cumberland Press will publish Marcel Marceau: Master of Mime, with an Introduction by Anne Sicco, Marceau’s widow. Kathryn says, “Anne and I are thrilled to launch the book in celebration of the centenary of the mime artist’s birth, March 22, 2023. It’s a fitting tribute, honoring the legacies of both men and their artistic collaboration.”

Kathryn Leigh Scott

The National Arts Club will celebrate the centenary of the birth of the world’s most famous mime, Marcel Marceau, with a Reception March 20th to launch an exhibition of photographs taken by Time/Life photographer Ben Martin. The exhibit, which is open to the public and free, will take place from March 9th to April 28 in conjunction with the publication of a new edition of Marcel Marceau: Master of Mime, a photojournalist’s view of the legendary artist as performer and friend. Begun as a Life magazine pictorial in the mid-1970s, their artistic collaboration produced an intense, intimate portrait of the mime whose stage creation, a white-faced clown in bell-bottom pants, sailor’s pullover and crumpled flower opera hat, continued a century old tradition. In more than 350 photographs, 80 in exquisite color, Martin captures Marceau behind the scenes, rehearsing, applying makeup, and performing. In a series of performance photos, he shows the artist conveying his miraculous emotional range as Bip, his onstage alter ego.

Marcel Marceau: Born Marcel Mangel in Strasbourg, France, on March 23, 1923, Marceau referred to mime as the “art of silence,” an art that he performed professionally worldwide for over 60 years. As a Jewish youth, he lived in hiding and worked with the French Resistance against the Nazi occupiers during World War II together with his daring older brother, Simon Alain Mangel. Marceau gave his first major performance to 3,000 allied troops after the liberation of Paris in August 1944. Following the war, he studied dramatic art and mime in Paris where, in 1959, he established his own pantomime school. In 1956, he won an Emmy Award, and in 1991 was elected to the venerable Institut de France as a member of the Académie des Beaux Arts. In 1998, he was made Grand Officier de la Légion d’Honneur and awarded the National Order of Merit in France. In 2002, the celebrated mime became the eleventh recipient of The Raoul Wallenberg Medal.

Ben Martin covered wars, fashion, politics, arts, business and sports for Time, Life, Fortune, People and Sports Illustrated for 33 years. He covered Martin Luther King’s Selma March, the first Nixon-Kennedy Presidential debate, Fidel Castro in Cuba and “Swinging London,” capturing “evocative images that defined the 1960s,” according to the New York Times. Martin’s photographic archive has been donated to the Briscoe Center at the University of Texas, Austin.

Marcel Marceau and Ben Martin – photo by Ben Martin

Kathryn Leigh Scott, Ben Martin’s wife of many years and publishing partner until his death, dreamed of reissuing the book. “Marcel offered to write an Introduction to a new edition, but passed away before we could make it happen. The dream was reawakened in early 2018 when I got in touch with Anne Sicco, Marcel’s widow. The two of us began discussing the possibility of an exhibit of the photographs and a new edition of the book to commemorate the centenary of Marceau’s birth, March 22, 2023. For us, it’s a tribute that honors the legacies of both men and their artistic collaboration.”

Kathryn Leigh Scott is an author and actress who has written the novels September Girl, Jinxed, Down and Out in Beverly Heels and Dark Passages. Nonfiction includes the Lobby Card books on film art, Last Dance at the Savoy, The Bunny Years and a trilogy of books on caregiving: Now With You, Now Without, The Happy Hours and A Welcome Respite. She played Maggie Evans/Josette DuPres in the original Dark Shadows, and appears in feature films The Eleventh Green, Three Christs and A Rainy Day in New York. Magma New Studio Album “Kartëhl” Now Available on All Digital Platforms and on Apple Music in a Dolby Atmos Version

For Immediate Release

Magma New Studio Album “Kartëhl” Now Available on All Digital Platforms and on Apple Music in a Dolby Atmos Version

French music legends Magma’s new critically acclaimed album “Kartëhl” is now available on all Digital Platforms and on Apple Music in a Dolby Atmos Version!

The new album has been receiving rave reviews worldwide!

For those who thought Zess would be Magma’s grand studio finale, the good news is that it isn’t. In fact this crazy French band from another planet that sings in their own made-up language still has a lot of energy and power remaining in their collective starship, as evidenced by Kãrtëhl. Kärtëhl offers another solid entry in the Magma canon that certainly won’t disappoint longtime fans of the band.” – Expose

“This is an album with a newer direction, but containing enough of Magma’s uniqueness to be readily identifiable. With each play through the songs grow in stature. These songs definitely demonstrate what Magma can do so well and will sit comfortably alongside older pieces within the live setting. Magma have given us what I believe will be a well-received album which should please their dedicated legions of fans – and maybe win a few more. Who knows?!” – The Progressive Aspect

“Many legacy artists lose the plot by this stage of their careers, but Magma have been charting their own path for so long that they always seem to know where they’re going—and Kãrtëhl is an exciting new entry in their oeuvre.” – Chicago Reader

“Kãrtëhl has proven that Magma aren’t backing down, without a fight. And the result on this bad boy, has more continuations of the classical, soulful, and jazzy-like approach that’ll keep the machine going, forever and ever.” – Echoes and Dust

“Three years ago, Zëss showed that Magma can still produce work operatic in its scope and ambition; now Kãrtëhl reveals a collective that is very comfortable in its own skin. What Magma do in the next few years will determine whether Kãrtëhl comes to be seen as their well-executed swansong, or the start of a definitive new period.” – The Quietus

2020/2021. More than 18 months without being able to do a concert. This space of time, this imposed “pause”, was used to prepare a new album, a group album, like Magma hadn’t done for a long time.

Following the creation of a new line-up in 2020, Magma once again offered to musicians to bring compositions, Christian Vander having never made the deliberate choice to be Magma’s sole composer. But de facto, none of the dozens of musicians who participated in this adventure had offered a new song for decades!

After “ZËSS”, which hinted at a rather bleak future, this luminous and resolutely optimistic new album is the result of collective work, an “Operation Kartëhl”.

“Kartëhl” was recorded and mixed by Francis Linon at UZ studio between March 7 and June 12, 2022. Mastered at Greasy records studio by Marcus Linon. Produced by Stella Vander Linon.

Line-up – Christian Vander : drums, solo vocals, tambourine / Stella Vander : solo vocals, vocals, chime / Hervé Aknin : solo vocals, vocals / Isabelle Feuilleboi s: vocals / Sylvie Fisichella : vocals / Caroline Indjein : vocals / Laura Guarrato : vocals / Rudy Blas : guitar / Thierry Eliez : piano, Fender Rhodes, keyboards / Simon Goubert : piano, Fender Rhodes, keyboards / Jimmy Top : bass

Magma’s “Kartëhl” is available on CD and 3-sided DBL vinyl LP

Classic Rock Legends Wishbone Ash “Argus 50th Anniversary” Multi-Format Box Set Now Available For Pre-order

Featuring 2 LPs, 3 CDs, 7” single, DVD and 48-page book with rare photographs and extensive liner notes & contributions from Andy Powell, Martin Turner & Steve Upton

Celebrating one of the most pivotal entries in the history of great British rock and prog albums, Wishbone Ash’s legendary LP “Argus” gets a 50th Anniversary multi-format Box Set release on 14 April 2023 through Madfish.

Complete with its indelible Hipgnosis designed album sleeve, 1972’s “Argus” saw Wishbone Ash (Andy Powell, Martin Turner, Steve Upton & Ted Turner) mix hard rock, blues, folk and elements of prog to create an anthemic album of resounding quality. “Argus” was the group’s third studio LP and undoubtedly the classic album within the band’s ‘70s canon. It is not only the biggest selling album of their career, featuring the beloved fan-favorite “Blowin’ Free”, but full of memorable and timeless tunes such as “The King Will Come”, “Time Was”, “Warrior” and “Throw Down The Sword”. Widely considered a vital moment in the progression of twin-lead guitar harmonization, Andy Powell and Ted Turner’s pioneering twin lead attack left an indelible stamp on the likes of Thin Lizzy, Iron Maiden, Metallica and Lynyrd Skynyrd. It was also a technique deployed by Steely Dan for their own 1972 hit “Reelin’ In The Years”.

Wishbone Ash achieved considerable success in the 1970s, during which they were among England’s most popular hard rock acts, achieving an impressive eight Top 40 albums. Often regarded as one of the premiere UK live acts of the ‘70s, they toured throughout this period and into the following decades.

1972 was one of rock music’s most memorable years for regal releases – a golden age of classic albums – “Exile On Main Street”, “Machine Head”, “The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars”, “All The Young Dudes”, “Roxy Music”, “Can’t Buy A Thrill”, “Sailin’ Shoes”, “Foxtrot”, “Demons And Wizards”, “Transformer” and “Barnstorm” – by rock royalty – The Rolling Stones, Deep Purple, Davie Bowie, Mott The Hoople, Roxy Music, Steely Dan, Little Feat, Genesis, Uriah Heep, Lou Reed and Joe Walsh. Not least among these amazing artists and records was Wishbone Ash and their groundbreaking album “Argus”.

As they reigned supreme through the ‘70s, Wishbone Ash was centered on inspired musicianship, joyful spirit and inventive songs. Their concerts were uplifting and their recorded work sublime. “Argus” remains a stunning highpoint in the band’s startling repertoire. This is a vital addition to the Wishbone Ash catalogue.

Released by Madfish on April 14, 2023

Prog Music Artist Leon Alvarado Releases New Short Film and Soundtrack As An Addendum to His Latest Album “Charging The Electric Dream”

For Immediate Release

Prog Music Artist Leon Alvarado Releases New Short Film and Soundtrack As An Addendum to His Latest Album “Charging The Electric Dream”

Starting February 15, you’ll be able to watch the short film “Outside the Dream” online via YouTube or Vimeo and purchase a CD of the soundtrack which is available through Melodic Revolution Records. The instrumental musical short film is ten and a half minutes of thought-provoking eye candy while the 10-minute “Epic Edition” of “Outside The Dream” goes far beyond the original version. The music takes you deeper on a voyage with newly added arrangements and instrumentation. The film and soundtrack make up the perfect companions to “Charging The Electric Dream,” the ultimate acoustical trip.

This EP contains 16 minutes of content consisting of music that was recorded during the last quarter of 2022 with some additional material recorded in January of 2023. “Outside the Dream, Epic Edition” is an expansion and rearrangement of the piece by the same name from the “Charging The Electric Dream” album. The second song in the CD is “Alternate Frequencies” which is found as is in the album “Charging The Electric Dream”. Both songs in this EP were composed and recorded during sessions between October and November of 2022. Although the music directly relates to the “Charging The Electric Dream” album, the artwork for the CD follows its own path resembling the style of illustrated artwork found in science-fiction posters from the 70’s. Being heavily influenced by the music from those days, Leon thought a touch of nostalgia depicting a “future that might have been,” would be appropriate for this particular project.

OUTSIDE THE DREAM (SOUNDTRACK)

Keyboard Legend Rick Wakeman To Release New Concept Album “A Gallery Of The Imagination”

For Immediate Release

Keyboard Legend Rick Wakeman To Release New Concept Album “A Gallery Of The Imagination”

Released on 24th February 2023 on Madfish Music

Keyboard legend Rick Wakeman will be releasing his new concept album “A Gallery Of The Imagination” on February 24, 2023 on Madfish Music.

The initial idea for “A Gallery Of The Imagination” stems from Rick’s first piano teacher, Mrs Symes, with whom he studied from the age five until his time at the Royal College of Music. She taught him that music was like painting pictures: that when you play, you are painting pictures through music, an important lesson that Rick never forgot.

Having written a vast array of new music recently, all of different styles, Rick recalled the advice of his beloved teacher and decided to present the tracks for the new album as if they were pictures in a gallery. Just as there are many different styles in an art gallery, so there are many different musical styles on “A Gallery of the Imagination”. It contains many clear prog influences, especially in the Moog solos and there are also two solo piano numbers, which reflect Rick’s classical roots and show influences from the Romantic period. Equally important is the strong song and melodic influence on “A Gallery Of The Imagination” with eight unconventional vocal tracks, with Rick’s distinctive descriptive music carefully arranged around the lyrics.

Examples of the variety contained within the album are the fun yet wistful elements in “A Day Spent on the Pier”, a track describing time spent at the seaside, written in Southwold and evoked by Rick’s own memories of happy childhood days spent on the helter skelters in Brighton and Clacton and on the pier in Southsea. Rick wrote “The Eyes of a Child” with his thirteen grandchildren in mind, aware of the responsibility of trying to fix the world for following generations whereas “Cuban Carnival” celebrates the light-hearted fun times Rick spent in Cuba with his band, the English Rock Ensemble. As listeners take a musical walk-through Rick’s “Gallery”, they will find more than enough to fire the imagination and come up with their own mind paintings whilst listening to his new album. Fans can get a taste of what’s to come with the first single “The Dinner Party” available on streaming services https://RickWakemanMadfish.lnk.to/AGOTI

Says Rick, “One of my great loves is going to museums and art galleries and seeing all the different types of art, so I thought, why not a music gallery… the Gallery of the Imagination? People can paint their own mind pictures to the different types of music that are on the album. It is very diverse and for me it works very well because the concept holds it all together”.

One of the ideas Rick would like to pursue around album release is for listeners to draw or paint their own pictures or even create sculptures to the music which, in turn, could be displayed. “It is a very tactile album,” Rick explains. “I’d like to feel that people can actually touch the music.”

The line-up on “A Gallery Of The Imagination”, as with Rick’s previous album “The Red Planet”, features The English Rock Ensemble: bassist Lee Pomeroy, guitarist Dave Colquhoun, drummer Ash Soan and on vocals Hayley Sanderson, famous for her work as a vocalist on “Strictly Come Dancing”, with each artist recording their individual parts in their own studios. Join Rick for a stroll around “A Gallery Of The Imagination” – as he says: “A gallery that belongs to everyone”.

Unquiet Music Ltd New Concept Album “MEMEmusic” Feat. Members of King Crimson, Lifesigns, Stick Men, Earthdiver, Yang and Others Now Available For Pre-order

To be released on 3 February 2023 – Pre-order from 18 January 2023

Unquiet Music Ltd releases a new concept album titled “MEMEmusic” and features Jon Poole of Lifesigns, Tony Levin and Pat Mastelotto of King Crimson, Markus Reuter of Stick Men, Adrian Benavides of Earthdiver, Frédéric L’Epée of Yang among others.

A pretty ‘out there’ album I played bass on earlier this year.” – Jon Poole

Things that manage to reconcile my need to hear new things without losing my deepest roots” – Mixed by Stefano Castagna

Warning: Save your psyche and stay away from this highly disorienting sequence of nerve-rewiring pieces.” – Trey Gunn (King Crimson, David Sylvian)

On February 3, 2023, ambitious multi-form music project Unquiet Music Ltd issues its second official album “MEMEmusic” on CD and download (via Bandcamp). The album is composed by JP Rossi, and produced by Markus Reuter (Stick Men, Reuter/Motzer/Grohowski, Anchor & Burden), crossing multiple boundaries between the electronic and the acoustic, between complexity and simplicity, between deep contemporary classical structures and textures and punchy art rock drive.

The first Unquiet Music Ltd album, 2020’s “In the Name of… (A Prayer for Our Times)” was an exploration of verticality and the arrow of time throughout a man’s life, or through mankind’s history. While in some respects “MEMEMusic” does act as a continuation of its predecessor, both in ideas and concept, it features a different approach and theme. Whereas “In the Name of…” was vertical, “MEMEmusic” is, in comparison, rather horizontal; and deals predominantly with communication and the notion of the individual. Reflecting on human interaction, and on how this has changed due to significant global changes and challenges over the past three years, it is firmly music for its time. The musical journey is divided in two parts, with the first half of the album being more industrial and electronic while the second turns towards live acoustic performances and to romantic and entertaining songs.

The central theme of “MEMEmusic” is the re-discovery of language – not the only tool with which we can connect to other people, but obviously one of the best – and to realize we are unique individuals precisely because differences exist. At the same time this profound but simple idea is delivered predominantly via music, which allows the listener to wander into their own universe without the weight of any message if they so wish. The cover and booklet also reflect the welcoming of diversity with their collaged images from photographs and paintings, plus AI techniques generated by Swiss multi-media artist Tobias Reber and comic book drawings and characters created by Denis Rodier (Marvel, DC, Milestone Media).

More accessible and reflective than “In the Name of…”, much of MEMEmusic is a conceptual effort based around instrumentals and some striking one-man choral composition. However, the album also diversifies from previous work in containing several stand-alone songs. These blend Rossi’s complex contemporary classical inspirations (fiercely building on and developing inspirations from Dmitri Shostakovich, Steve Reich and Philip Glass, and incorporating large-form ambient pieces and mediaeval-esque hocketing work) with influences from the boundary-crossing, thought-provoking art rock of David Bowie, King Crimson, David Sylvian and Stick Men. Also drifting through the mix are Cuban strings and trumpet, plus frequent and loving references to the languages and expression of the jazz tradition, with the spirits of Billie Holliday, George Gershwin, Ella Fitzgerald and Nelson Riddle finding their way into the string arrangements and some of the vocals. (See if you can also spot visitations from certain beloved jazz standards, adding their presence to the stew…)

While based around Rossi’s own vocal, keyboard and electronics work, “MEMEmusic” benefits from the participation of many talented international musicians. Continuing their work with the project alongside Rossi and Reuter are Frédéric L’Épée (Yang, Shylock, Philharmonie), Samira Brahmia, Raphaël Terreau, Khliff Miziallaoua, while the new album also welcomes fresh Unquiet Music contributors Tony Levin (Peter Gabriel, King Crimson), Pat Mastelotto (King Crimson, Stick Men), Jon Poole (Cardiacs, Lifesigns, The Dowling Poole and The Wildhearts), Adrian Benavides (Earthdiver), Troy Jones and Thommy Lowry.
