DarWin has been busy in the studio recording not just one but two major albums since 2021. The first big drop, “Inside This Zoo,” is now here!

DarWin’s debut album “Origin of Species” grabbed attention with its mix of virtuoso guitars and symphonic rock. Prog Rock Magazine called it “a rock tour de force.”

Now DarWin returns with a first single, “Inside This Zoo,” releasing November 3rd. The first full album, tentatively named “DarWin 4,” is now targeted for release in early 2024.

“Inside This Zoo” is another powerhouse melodic epic from co-producers DarWin and the legendary Simon Phillips, with co-writer and vocalist Matt Bissonette.

Mumbai-born bass sensation Mohini Dey has joined Team DarWin and brings her iconic low-end wizardry to the groove on the two albums.

Greg Howe takes his trademark shredding to the next level, sporting his new Lyra guitar with a soaring new tone that promises to melt faces globally.

Dream Theater’s Derek Sherinian also returns with the group on keys and adds his signature symphonic edge.

As with previous DarWin releases, Simon Phillips drives the production, leveraging all the wisdom of the history of rock music in the process.

The accompanying video drops on YouTube and shows the band having an awesome time playing together. The friendship and joy of the music is clearly shining through.

New Jersey-Based Country Music Trio Southpaw Named “Country Group of the Year” in Nashville

Stockton, NJ – New Jersey-based country music trio Southpaw was named “Country Group of the Year” at the 2023 Josie Music Awards, held October 22 at the historic Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. The group was also awarded Modern Country Song of the Year honors for its single “Your Name,” which was released earlier this year.

“What an amazing honor to be recognized by the Josie Music Awards,” said guitarist Colin McConnell. “The breadth of indie music talent in that hall was so inspiring.” Adds keyboardist and producer Sean Garnhart, “Hearing our music echoing inside the legendary Opry during our walk up was incredibly special.”

For lead singer Christine Radlmann, it was not her first opportunity to stand on the legendary Opry stage. Radlmann was awarded “Female Country Vocalist of the Year” honors in 2022. “Standing in that legendary ‘circle’ at the Grand Ole Opry and receiving songwriting honors for ‘Your Name’ was an especially powerful moment,” said Radlmann. “That song comes from a very personal and emotional place for me, and I’m so moved to know it touches others.”

Radlmann was also a 2023 runner-up for “Female Modern Country Artist of the Year” and “Female Modern Country Vocalist of the Year.”

The Josie Music Awards is the largest independent music awards show in the world. This year, a record 59,000 entries were reviewed by a distinguished panel of music industry experts, and fewer than 2.5 percent of entries received a nomination. Southpaw was also nominated for four Songwriter Achievement Awards for works that will appear on its upcoming sophomore album, due for release by the end of this year.

Since its 2021 debut album, “Unhitched,” Southpaw has been played on more than 400 radio stations worldwide. The band was also named a top-ten national finalist in the Jack Daniels Battle of the Bar Bands competition, sponsored by the country’s largest radio broadcaster, iHeartRadio. The band recently signed with Deko Entertainment, which distributes through ADA/Warner Music.

Dark Shadows was an American gothic soap opera that aired weekdays on the ABC television network, from June 27, 1966, to April 2, 1971. The show depicted the lives of the wealthy Collins family of Collinsport, Maine, where a series of supernatural occurrences take place.

Dark Shadows became popular when vampire Barnabas Collins played by actor Jonathan Frid was introduced ten months into its run. It would also feature ghosts, werewolves, zombies, man-made monsters, witches, warlocks, time travel, and a parallel universe. A small troupe of actors each played many roles; as actors came and went, some characters were played by more than one actor. The show was distinguished by its melodramatic performances, atmospheric set designs, unusual storylines, numerous plot twists, adventurous music score, broad range of characters, and heroic adventures. Dark Shadows developed a large teenage audience and a dedicated cult following. By 1969, it had become ABC’s highest-rated daytime series with viewership in the millions!

The original network run of the show amassed 1,225 episodes. The success of the series spawned a media franchise that has included two feature films (House of Dark Shadows in 1970 and Night of Dark Shadows in 1971), a 1991 TV remake, a 2012 film reboot directed by Tim Burton, and numerous spin-off novels and comics. Kathryn Leigh Scott has narrated all 27 vintage Dark Shadows novels by Marilyn Ross for Oasis Audiobooks, available on Amazon.com.

Legendary Rock act Mott the Hoople celebrate the 50th anniversary of their landmark album “All The Young Dudes” with a limited edition deluxe box set, featuring newly remastered audio, due to be released on Madfish on December 8th.  The remastered album will also be made available as a limited edition double orange vinyl LP.

Originally released in the UK on the 8th of September 1972, the title track (penned by David Bowie) became their highest-charting hit single, the record also included the definitive cover of Lou Reed’s “Sweet Jane” alongside the inventive and suggestive “Momma’s Little Jewel”, the Stones-styled “Jerkin Crocus” and Mick Ralphs’ heartfelt “Ready For Love”.

Spirit of Unicorn Music are delighted to announce a brand new single and video from DISTRICT 97, to mark the launch of their new album Stay For The Ending which is now available worldwide.

The new single is the album’s title track, Stay For The Ending and combines dual themes rooted in both the real world and in metaphor. The song’s narrative addresses the ever-shifting, omnipresent threat of Covid-19 in its many variants and forms. The track also speaks to personal relationships, deceit and the breaking of trust. The band describe the song as being about “ghosts and flames, smoke and deception.”

The track was written by band keyboard player ANDREW LAWRENCE and vocalist LESLIE HUNT (AMERICAN IDOL FEMALE VOCALIST FINAL 2007). Andrew comments, “In writing this song, I tried to fit within the existing D97 canon whilst also adding my own twist. I kept the form of the song pretty simple so that we could focus more of our energy on getting these very difficult unison lines as tight as possible.”

Lead singer Leslie goes on to say, “When I heard the demo of Andrew’s new song, I could not wait to sing that chorus melody and perform it with the band. It’s so powerful and catchy – and I knew it would be insanely fun to wail on! It’s probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to sing in my life – but it also caused me to expand my range and now it feels easy and awesome to perform.”

Lawrence continues, “It’s been a pleasure hearing this song evolve, and I’ve loved the personality that all of the other band members have added to it.”

Featuring 10 brand new tracks, the album Stay For The Ending has been recorded, mixed and mastered by NOAM WALLENBERG (ALAN PARSONS, MAC MILLER). Reflecting on the new album, Hunt says, “This record represents us at our most collaborative and dynamic. We tried some new things and chased different aesthetics than we have in the past and I think the result is our best sounding album to date with some of our strongest compositions.”

After unveiling title track and single “Lotus Unfolding”, now mere days away from the full album’s release on October 20th the band treat fans to “Deep Blue Shade”.

The video, created by Steve McKeown aka Magic Lantern, who was responsible for creating the visual paradise of the album’s front cover (socials) expands on the aural tapestry in “Deep Blue Shade”. Using the colour blue as an anchor point, the video’s illustrations oscillate between desert plains, mushroom skies and all manner of geometric oddities that take you through life and the universe itself.

Waves of synthesizers wash over the listener as we’re once more led into the lush and wondrous world of Ozric Tentacles. Here, guitars soar overhead and electronics reign supreme, conjuring all manner of psychedelic vistas. Where previously the focus might have been more on licks and melody here we’re shown the musical dexterity and the coexistence of synthesizers alongside Ed’s signature guitar playing style. “Deep Blue Shade” also showcases the effortless drums that accompany the album with cymbal flourishes and flight footed beats present throughout. Lose yourself in the blue!

Ed Wynne comments on the song: “Here’s another taster from our forthcoming new album Lotus Unfolding. Deep Blue Shade may possibly work as a welcome harmonic shelter in case things are getting a little musically dazzling out there…it could be necessary depending on which way up your ears are.”

The album was recorded, written and produced in their own Blue Bubble studio in Fife during 2022 – 2023 by Ed Wynne with a little sonic help from Silas. Mastered by Adam Goodlet and illustrated with some nicely detailed ethereal artwork by Steve McKeown and Sally Clark.

“Lotus Unfolding” is another sonically illustrated excursion through the musical realms the band have explored in their latest chapter. Album opener “Storm In A Teacup” kicks the album off in spectacular style traversing the realms of time and space with flair and virtuosic poise. It’s followed by the groove driven “Deep Blue Shade”, whose melodies are vividly brought to life by trademark Ed Wynne exquisite guitar playing. This is swiftly accompanied by the serene title track – as close to a musical yoga session at the center of the hippocampus you’ll ever experience.

“Lotus Unfolding” line up consists of Ed Wynne (Guitars, Synth and Bass) and Silas Wynne (Modular Synth and Keyboards) . Alongside Ed and Silas is Brandi Wynne (bass), Saskia Maxwell (Flute), Tim Wallander (Drums) and Paul Hankin (Percussion).

Released in September 1972, Family’s “Bandstand” was the second to feature a line-up vocalist Roger Chapman, guitarist John “Charlie” Whitney, drummer Rob Townsend, bassist and vocalist John Wetton and multi-instrumentalist John “Poli” Palmer on vibes, keyboards and flute and followed the success of the album “Fearless” released the previous October.

The album featured such classic tracks as “Burlesque” (a UK Top 20 hit single), “My Friend The Sun”, “Glove” and “Coronation”. The recording sessions also featured guest vocalist Linda Lewis on the powerful “Broken Nose”.

This new expanded edition has been newly remastered from the original master tapes and also includes ten bonus tracks drawn from the single “The Rockin’ Rs”, unreleased studio out-takes from May 1971 and a BBC Radio session from October 1972. This new expanded remastered release also features an illustrated booklet with a new essay.

“Fever Dreaming In Lo-Fi” is the fifth solo release by NYC based multi-instrumentalist/songwriter, Marlon Cherry. This collection of music is an eclectic mix of styles, ranging from Rock, Dream Pop, Jazz, Experimental, World Beat, and even a splash of A Cappella R & B. Marlon handles all of the instruments and vocals on the bulk of the pieces, with some wonderful guest contributions from Terre Roche (The Roches), Susan Hwang, Paul Brantley, Christina Schneider, and poet/actress, Sophie Malleret. The project was co-produced by Marlon and Zach Phillips (Fievel Is Glauque), who also engineered the recording.

Marlon has worked and continues to work with a wide range of artists including Stew & The Negro Problem (Tony Award winners for Passing Strange), Stew’s current side project, Baba Bibi, Syd Straw, actress/songwriter, Eszter Balint, Chris Cochrane (Marc Ribot, Zeena Parkins), and Terre Roche (solo and as part of the trio, Afro-Jersey with Sidiki Conde), among others.

Previous solo releases by Marlon are “Life After Théâtre” (1986), “Pete” (1990), “Elsewhere” (2001), and “Ancient Sound, Modern Dance” (2006).

Sam Morrison is a multifaceted musician known for his mastery of the soprano and tenor saxophones, as well as his artistry on the alto and bass flutes. With a career that spans several decades, he has left an indelible mark on the world of jazz, collaborating with legendary artists and contributing to iconic recordings.

One of the standout moments in Sam’s career was his membership in the esteemed Miles Davis Band. His performance alongside Miles Davis at the 1975 Newport Jazz Festival, held that year at Avery Fisher Hall, garnered rave reviews from The New York Times. A portion of that historic concert’s recording has recently been released in the Miles Davis bootleg series, “Volume 4: 1955-1975 Newport Jazz Festival.” Collectors and enthusiasts can also find bootleg recordings of concert and club performances featuring Sam Morrison with the Miles Davis Band, testifying to the lasting impact of his contributions.

Sam Morrison’s musical journey extends beyond his time with Miles Davis. He has collaborated with an array of jazz, rock, and blues luminaries, including Gil Evans, Al Foster, Buster Williams, Woody Shaw, Billy Hart, T-Bone Walker, Michael Shrieve, Michael Brecker, Masabumi Kikuchi, and Ryo Kawasaki. His presence has graced stages at major jazz festivals across Europe, such as Vienne, Nice, Paris, and Stockholm.

As a member of  “The Children on the Corner,” the Electric Miles reunion band featuring bass legend Michael Henderson and jazz tabla pioneer Badal Roy, Sam continues to explore new dimensions in jazz fusion. His musical education began at Columbia University in New York City, where he immersed himself in the vibrant jazz scene, frequenting legendary clubs like Slugs and the Village Vanguard. He also experienced the groundbreaking rock acts of the era at Fillmore East, further expanding his musical horizons.

Currently, Sam Morrison is actively working on a new trio album featuring Michael Shrieve, the original Santana drummer from Woodstock, and Patrick Gleeson, an electronic music and synth pioneer known for his collaborations with Herbie Hancock. Additionally, his forthcoming solo album is eagerly anticipated, with remixing by the legendary bassist, producer, and remixer Bill Laswell.

Having returned with their announcement of their new album previously, fans at long last can hear the first sample of what to expect on the up-coming Ozric Tentacles release “Lotus Unfolding”.

Today the band have made available a beautiful visualizer that takes us inside the world of “Lotus Unfolding”. Created by Matthew Vickerstaff. the video brings the psychedelic album art to life as we’re transported into the wormhole of the magical realm of Ozric Tentacles sonic creations.

Musically the track brings signature elements of the band’s sound to the forefront. Opening with the ethereal chimes and flutes as we’re slowly transported into the sonic oasis of “Lotus Unfolding”, we’re treated to beautiful acoustic passages before electronics open up for a cathartic guitar solo bringing the song to a musical crescendo before slowly returning back to the realms of consciousness as the song dissipates. Put simply, it’s a trip!

The album was recorded, written and produced in their own Blue Bubble studio in Fife during 2022–2023 by Ed Wynne with a little sonic help from Silas. Mastered by Adam Goodlet and illustrated with some nicely detailed ethereal artwork by Steve McKeown and Sally Clark.

Ozric Tentacles’ aural synapses buzz throughout the album to channel the band’s limitless creativity, making “Lotus Unfolding” the perfect conduit of the spiritual and the physical. It’s an essential addition to the band’s catalogue.

“Lotus Unfolding” is another sonically illustrated excursion through the musical realms the band have explored in their latest chapter. Album opener “Storm In A Teacup” kicks the album off in spectacular style traversing the realms of time and space with flair and virtuosic poise. It’s followed by the groove driven “Deep Blue Shade”, whose melodies are vividly brought to life by trademark Ed Wynne exquisite guitar playing. This is swiftly accompanied by the serene title track – as close to a musical yoga session at the center of the hippocampus you’ll ever experience.

“Lotus Unfolding” line up consists of Ed Wynne (Guitars, Synth and Bass) and Silas Wynne (Modular Synth and Keyboards) . Alongside Ed and Silas is Brandi Wynne (bass), Saskia Maxwell (Flute), Tim Wallander (Drums) and Paul Hankin (Percussion).
