Ugly Runner Releases New Timely Video “Eat The Neighbors!”

For Immediate Release

Ugly Runner Releases New Timely Video “Eat The Neighbors!”

In these uncertain times Ugly Runner is trying to keep a smile on our faces with their new timely video “Eat The Neighbors!”

Says guitarist/vocalist Stephen Britt, “’Eat The Neighbors!’ was written as a joke after being unable to find many supplies during the onset of the pandemic. I wanted a colorful take on a dystopian, class-war apocalypse once essential supplies had dissipated and chaos had taken over. The track was recorded at my house in Asheville, North Carolina, by Ryan Glisson with help from Lowell Hobbs and Edwin Mericle. We collaborated with Marcd (marcd.co) for the animation, and they killed it. I wanted to create something fun that would help people smile during these unprecedented times. People everywhere are struggling with income loss, and a lot of them being renters at the mercy of slumlords with minimal protections in place. If you stack those issues on top of mandatory isolation, mental health across the country will spiral. We all need to keep each other up.”

Watch the video: https://youtu.be/qyDIOb0F-qc

Ugly Runner is a 4-piece rock ‘n’ roll outfit from Asheville, North Carolina. As broad as the spectrum of rock ‘n’ roll itself, so are the influences of Ugly Runner, which range from California Punk to British Rhythm & Blues. Aiming to create timeless rock ‘n’ roll that dances on the edge of psychedelia, and invokes nostalgia from the first listen, the band entered the studio in May 2019 to record their debut EP, “Romanticizer,” at Sedgwick Studios in Flat Rock, NC. Working with engineer, Peter Brownlee, they tracked the 6-song EP and spent the remainder of the summer playing shows and preparing for the release of their debut EP. Ugly Runner’s “Romanticizer” was released on Cleopatra Records on January 2nd.

Ugly Runner music evokes sounds of The Stooges, Ty Segall & The Pixies on their debut EP!

Ugly Runner:
Stephen Britt: guitar/vox
Eli Raymer: drums
Lowell Hobbs: guitar
Brett J Kent: bass

Make Believe Friends Featuring Members of Lunden Reign Release New Single “Thank the Academy”

For Immediate Release

Make Believe Friends Featuring Members of Lunden Reign Release New Single “Thank the Academy”

Los Angeles – Make Believe Friends is a new band name for Laura Espinoza and Mindy Milburn who are also the core members of the critically acclaimed band Lunden Reign. Laura and Mindy wanted a second group so they could explore creating other styles of music. Matt Denis (bass) and Noel Jasso (drums), also from Lunden Reign, and Miranda Miller (from Hey Violet!) will also be a part of the new lineup for Make Believe Friends. However, this new version will feature a more contemporary sound.

Their new single “Thank the Academy” is a driving, upbeat song with music by Laura Espinoza (primary songwriter for Lunden Reign) and lyrics by Mindy Milburn. Produced by Geoff Pearlman, the song reflects on someone driven by their own fame, ego and insecurity to the point of where social accolades are more important than anyone else in their life.

“Already a living legend, you think you have no flaws, when you look in the mirror, can you hear the applause?”

Mindy Milburn (lead singer) & Laura Espinoza (guitarist/songwriter) are the core members of Make Believe Friends (and also Lunden Reign), an all original alt rock band based out of West Hills, California. Laura & Mindy have already released 4 singles with “Follow Me to the Sun” picked as the #1 song of 2019 by Warren Kurtz of Goldmine Music Magazine.

About Laura Espinoza:

Laura is a songwriter/guitarist, playwright, and TV producer. Laura recently won a NARAS songwriting contest, exclusive to Grammy voting members where she participated in a private songwriting workshop with Busby, Rodney Jerkins, and Sarah Hudson. She has performed on stage with Luis Maldonado (Train), Terri Nunn (Berlin), Dale Bozzio (Missing Persons) & Prescott Niles (The Knack) and started her career with Matt Sorum (Guns n’ Roses). She has recorded at Capitol Records, Hollywood, Abbey Road, UK and is the host of “The Rock Radio Show” on KBU-FM, Malibu. Laura is also the recipient of 3 Emmy Awards.

About Mindy Milburn:

Mindy has a passion for singing and music. Originally from Cleveland Ohio, Mindy also sings for other bands when not performing with Make Believe Friends and Lunden Reign including both No Doubt and Madonna tribute bands. Mindy is now living in Los Angeles after moving from Ohio and is the proud parent of two wonderful children.

The band is currently working on a video for “Thanks the Academy” and will resume live performances after the CoronaVirus pandemic restrictions are lifted.

Jazz Rock Supergroup MANDOKI SOULMATES Say “THANK YOU” To The COVID-19 Helpers With Their New Single!

For Immediate Release

Jazz Rock Supergroup MANDOKI SOULMATES Say “THANK YOU” To The COVID-19 Helpers With Their New Single!

Los Angeles, CA – As the world continues to be consumed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Mandoki Soulmates mastermind and leader Leslie Mandoki has found inspiration and a new spark of hope amidst the chaos. He has penned a powerful new song in appreciation for the heroes who have emerged in this global crisis, the nurses, doctors, and other health care providers as well as the grocery store clerks and food delivery personnel who have stepped up to serve their communities. The new song, entitled simply “Thank You,” expresses so clearly the feelings of gratitude many of us have felt in these troubled times. Mandoki explains, “As an artist, I feel it is my duty to contemplate ideas for a better world. Now, like so many of us, I suddenly have the time. Let us grab this uncommon moment of pause together and take a new approach to the problems of the world. And let’s take a hard look at who this crisis is casting in a heroic light, and who comes out the villain.”

The song is being released through the Purple Pyramid imprint of indie giant Cleopatra Records, Inc. and is Mandoki Soulmate’s first release in the recently inked partnership with the L.A.-based label. Additional releases are set to follow later this year.

TODD RUNDGREN’S UTOPIA Benefit For Moogy Klingman 2011 Reunion Concert Recordings Now Available In A Special Limited Edition 6-Disc Box Set!

For Immediate Release

TODD RUNDGREN’S UTOPIA Benefit For Moogy Klingman 2011 Reunion Concert Recordings Now Available In A Special Limited Edition 6-Disc Box Set!

Los Angeles, CA – Todd Rundgren’s cult prog/art rock outfit Utopia released a mere handful of studio albums in several incarnations starting in 1974 before retiring in the early ‘80s. Yet the band has managed to maintain an intensely devout fanbase that enthusiastically flocked to sold out performances when Rundgren revived the act for a national tour in 2018. The seed of that extraordinarily successful reunion lay in a charitable act years earlier when Rundgren’s longtime friend, songwriting partner and founding member of the original Todd Rundgren’s Utopia, Moogy “Mark” Klingman, fell ill. As Klingman’s health deteriorated and his medical bills began to pile up, Todd Rundgren’s Utopia reformed for special benefit engagements to raise money for their dear friend. The result was an astounding coming together in music and a spirit of compassion as former Utopia members, including Mr. Klingman himself, stepped on the stage behind their leader, Todd Rundgren, and gave the fans an incredible concert, one they wouldn’t soon forget.

Now, a new box set collects together both the audio and video of the January 2011 Todd Rundgren’s Utopia reunion show as well as the November show later that year recorded just a few days after Klingman’s passing. The entire box, titled Benefit For Moogy Klingman, is a multi-media treasure trove featuring 4 audio discs and 2 DVDs with special features that include interviews with the band members and a gorgeous booklet with extensive liner notes and photos. The box is set to be released on May 1 courtesy of Purple Pyramid Records, a division of Cleopatra Records, Inc.

The Outlaws Legend Harvey Dalton Arnold Releases New Album “Stories To Live Up To”

For Immediate Release

The Outlaws Legend Harvey Dalton Arnold Releases New Album Stories To Live Up To

“Standing up or laying down, I won’t be here when the sun goes down,” says the 66 year old Southern Rock legend Harvey Dalton Arnold on “When the Sun Goes Down” from his new release Stories to Live Up To released on Music Maker Recordings.

For the guitar cowboy who quit high school and left his home in rural Eastern North Carolina to hit the road playing rock and roll at 17, Stories to Live Up To is a retrospective album, examining the emotions and choices that have defined Arnold’s life. His decision to hit the road eventually led him to become the bassist and vocalist for iconic Southern Rock band The Outlaws during the peak of their fame. Arnold’s tenure with The Outlaws came at the peak of an American art form that spoke to a generation.

Says Harvey, “Stories To Live Up To is a bunch of songs that I’ve written with the intent of kind of painting a picture or telling a story. I’ve been playing and writing mostly in the blues vein that I love so much, and I believe that this album is a fresh adventure for me.”

On his new record, his second released by Music Maker, Harvey doesn’t just look back, he wails through the everyday experiences that make an opera out of every man’s life – the perils and the joy of love, cheating, loss and longing. Accompanying Arnold in the studio is a crew of musicians with a righteous set of their own rock and roll bonafides. On bass Zev Katz (Paul Simon, James Brown, Carole King, Eric Clapton, on drums Charley Drayton (The Rolling Stones, Paul Simon, Neil Young, Miles Davis), on Piano, Rhodes, B3 Organ, and Keyboards Rob Arthur (Jimmy McGriff, Peter Frampton, Joan Osborne), and Zak Alister on Rhythm Guitar.

Says Harvey, “The album was recorded at Cowboy Technical Services Studio with Tim Hatfield, the owner engineering. We were all in one small room with no isolation, and we mostly played live, including my guitar solos and vocals. The record is not perfect, but its very human and has a spontaneous soul about it… I’m very proud of it and it was my most satisfying, fun recording experience ever. I look forward to supporting this CD with a video and live gigs in the future and my heart goes out to my friends in NYC as they and all try to survive the virus pandemic.”

Track Listing:
1. Stay Here With Me
2. Early Bird
3. What’s On Your Mind
4. Poor Boy
5. When the Sun Goes Down
6. Lone Outlaw
7. Gotta See Ya
8. Put Me Back
9. Catfish Blues

Todd Rundgren Recruits Guest Artists for Democratic Campaign Anthem

For Immediate Release

Todd Rundgren Recruits Guest Artists for Democratic Campaign Anthem

Todd Rundgren and some well known guest artists are re-recording his 1973 anthem “Just One Victory” and giving it away for free to Democrats throughout the US running for public office this year. So far Joe Walsh, Daryl Hall, and Paul Shaffer have already agreed to join the effort along with producer Don Was. The idea was suggested by former Bearsville Records executives Paul Fishkin and Marc Nathan.

“Just One Victory” originally appeared as the final track on Rundgren’s critically acclaimed 1973 album, A Wizard, a True Star.

Rundgren hopes that other notable artists sign on as well. “Let’s go for ‘We Are the World,’” he recently told Andy Greene of Rolling Stone. “Not many people know about it at this particular moment, especially because just as we were getting into the project this huge distraction [of the virus] came along. We are waiting for everyone to settle down from that before we refocus on the political and start actively soliciting some performances.”

Guest artists on the song don’t need to be musicians or even musically inclined. Once the song is recorded any Democrat will be able to use the song for free. “It’s really the kind of thing to get people hyped up and ready to go out and vote,” Rundgren says.

New LITTLE VILLAINS Album Celebrates The Crazy Life Of MOTÖRHEAD Drummer Phil “Philthy Animal” Taylor!

For Immediate Release

New LITTLE VILLAINS Album Celebrates The Crazy Life Of MOTÖRHEAD Drummer Phil “Philthy Animal” Taylor!

Los Angeles, CA – Phil Taylor put the motor in Motörhead for 13 incredible years, recording drums for that iconic band on 11 studio albums as well as 4 live albums. His stage presence became the stuff of rock legend and the ferocity with which he attacked his kit (as well as offstage antics) earned him the moniker Philthy Animal. Under appreciated in his later years, Taylor continued to play hard-driving rock n’ roll in various outfits, including the superb Little Villains project, formed with producer/musician James Childs of Airbus fame. The group made several studio recordings overseen by Childs, some of which were released in 2019 as the album Philthy Lies.

And now a new Little Villains album is hitting the streets, this time featuring the talents of former Hawkwind bassist and Lemmy prodigy, Alan “Boomer” Davey, who joins Childs on this celebration of the life and talents of Phil Taylor. Featuring the remaining studio recordings Taylor made prior to his passing in 2015, the album Taylor Made bursts with the power and energy of those early Motörhead albums. Childs expresses his enthusiasm for the project saying “I grew up on Motorhead and Hawkwind and to actually work with key members of each group is a milestone in my lifetime that I never could of imagined.”

Check out the first single, the title track, and its inventive animated video here:

The 3rd Edition of “The Strawberry Bricks Guide to Progressive Rock” by Charles Snider To be Released March 27, 2020

The Strawberry Bricks Guide to Progressive Rock, 3rd Edition
• Reviews of 510+ albums from 1967 – 1982
• 572 pages
• Fully edited, proofread and fact-checked

Back in print for 2020! The definitive record guide to the progressive era of rock music, Strawberry Bricks presents a comprehensive discography with reviews of 500+ albums, with band histories, musical synopses, key tracks and critical commentary, all presented in the historical context of a timeline. Beginning in 1967 and continuing through 1982, a generation of musicians took rock music in directions unforeseen as they charted what would become known as progressive rock. From art rock to krautrock, from England to Germany to Italy and all across Europe, Strawberry Bricks offers a candid reappraisal of rock’s most cerebral genre. Also for this edition, Matt Howarth has revisited his original artwork from the first edition of the book.

Says Charles, “The newly written Prologue offers a historical perspective of the pretext to the progressive era, beginning post-WWII, while the Epilogue offers a current perspective on progressive rock since the early 80’s. I’ve also spent a good deal of time fact-checking every detail in the book, including song titles and artist names. Further, this edition has been professionally edited and peer reviewed, all to make this as exacting and rewarding a book as the music it covers. Strawberry Bricks is another narrative on the classic era of progressive rock, one with hopefully a novel and candid outlook on the genre, its albums and the men that made it one of the most interesting chapters in rock’s history.”

With 212 more reviews, 210 more pages, completely fact-checked and professionally edited, and with a full index, the third edition is a substantial upgrade to owners of the first edition of the book. For owners of the second edition, Matt Howarth once again revisits his original artwork for Strawberry Bricks. Enjoy the music!

Praise for Strawberry Bricks:

“In Strawberry Bricks Charles Snider gives us a history of progressive rock from 1967 to 1982 through his astute, colourful and insightful entries on a personal selection of over 500 albums – and not always the obvious choices. He acts as an informed and trustworthy guide leading the reader on a fascinating journey through the genre.” – Mike Barnes, A New Day Yesterday: UK Progressive Rock & The 1970s

“Snider’s research is impeccable, his writing style enjoyable and it’s hard to fault the inclusion of any of the hundreds of albums he covers.” – Kev Rowland, The Progressive Underground

“Most impressive! I can see it’s phenomenally well researched. Well done.” – Hugh Banton, Van der Graaf Generator

Comments on previous editions of Strawberry Bricks:

“Only one major book on progressive rock that matters has been published this year, and it’s this one: The Strawberry Bricks Guide to Progressive Rock (Revised and Expanded Edition) by Charles Snider. This is a work of great passion and expertise by a true aficionado and historian of the form. It’s an exhaustive, comprehensive and engaging overview of the genre. It also offers 500+ reviews of important albums from the “golden era” of this music from 1967 to 1982. This is a valuable addition to the library of every enthusiast of progressive music.” – Anil Prasad, Innerviews

“Charles Snider has an encyclopedic knowledge of progressive rock, and has accrued one of the world’s most formidable record collections. No one is better equipped to write the definitive discography of this rich genre of music.” – Jonathan Schang, District 97

About the Author:
Charles Snider has been collecting records since the early 1970s, amassing one of the most complete archives of progressive rock. “One of my earliest memories of vinyl was The Beatles’ ‘Paperback Writer’ b/w ‘Rain.’ Musically, my love for British music and everything thereafter starts with The Beatles. My daughters are even named after Beatles’ songs!” Snider’s self-professed passion for the music “archaeology” continued over the decades, branching out to many other genres of music. “In the early 90s, Kevin Eden and I curated the WMO label, with the cooperation and support of Wire. The CD was a new format, and we released a lot of hard to find records, as well as unreleased archival material and two very good tribute discs.” Upon moving to Chicago in 2000, he began writing the first edition of The Strawberry Bricks Guide to Progressive Rock. “I’ve always loved record guides. Certainly, Ira Robbin’s Trouser Press was the prototype, but growing up in the 70s with magazines like Circus, Creem and of course Rolling Stone, I’ve always enjoyed the passion writers convey about music.” While not listening to prog rock in his man-cave, Snider can be found blogging about personal technology or cheering on the Chicago Blackhawks.
