Los Angeles, CA – The prog rock supergroup The Prog Collective, spearheaded by much heralded producer/musician and member of prog royalty Yes, Billy Sherwood, returns with a timely and magnificent new studio album, Worlds On Hold! This is the first release under the Prog Collective moniker since 2013’s Epilogue, which was the follow-up album to the massively popular self-titled debut album released in 2012. Just as with those previous efforts, Sherwood has gathered some of the most proficient and prolific artists from all over the globe including Rock Hall Of Fame nominee Todd Rundgren, Rock Hall member Steve Hackett (of Genesis), founding guitarist of Dutch legends Focus Jan Akkerman, former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal, electric violinist L. Shankar, renowned keyboardist and former Dream Theater member Derek Sherinian, and so many more!

For Worlds On Hold, producer and band leader Billy Sherwood chose to split the album between new compositions on one side and spectacular versions of familiar classics on the other. The songs covered include Peter Gabriel’s “Solsbury Hill,” Alan Parson’s Project’s “Eye In The Sky,” Procol Harem’s “A Whiter Shade Of Pale” and The Moody Blues’ “Nights In White Satin.” In addition, the set includes 3 previously released bonus tracks of Billy Sherwood produced cover versions. It truly is the best of both worlds!

For a taste of what’s in store, check out the album’s first single “Two Trajectories” featuring founding vocalist for prog metal icons Queensrÿche, Geoff Tate, which has been released as a digital single. The song is a complex and moving composition that showcases not only Tate’s incredible range but also the sleek and stupefying guitar work of superstar shredder Ron Thal.

Sherwood declares, “It was an honor and a pleasure to work with Geoff Tate on the song. He brought so much emotion and character to the vocal. I’m looking forward to people hearing this track along with all the others on the new Prog Collective record!”

The feeling is mutual for Tate, who says “Yes was one of my earliest influences and working with Billy was very special to me. I loved singing the track ‘Two Trajectories.’”

MAGMA RETROSPEKTIW I – II – III plus Bonus Track (3CD) Remastered Edition Now Available!

Featuring bonus track of more than 15 minutes – the first studio recording of the song “Rétrovision”!

It was at the Olympia in June 1980 that the 10th anniversary of Magma was celebrated during three memorable evenings.

This retrospective, bringing together most of the musicians who were part of the group, saw the light of day in the form of 2 albums, one double, Retrospektïw 1/2 the other single, Retrospektïw 3 which was, despite its numbering, published in first. Three titles make up the menu of this Retrospektïw 3: “Retrovision,” a long piece in the continuity of the spirit of the music of the album Attahk, where, on a hellish train, the voices of Stella Vander, Guy Khalifa and Maria Popkiewicz display an astonishing ease, “Hhaï,” in a supercharged version where the Lockwood/Paganotti/Widemann trio performs wonders, and finally “La Dawotsin” where, in a much calmer register, the voice of Christian Vander captivates by its mastery and its depth sensitivity.

A bonus of more than 15 minutes appears on this reissue, it is the first studio recording of the song “Rétrovision,” a pre-production demo for a studio album made in January 1980. Finally, “Rétrovision” will never exist in a studio version.

Recorded as Retrospektïw 3 during the evenings of the Olympia in June 1980, Retrospektïw 1/2 is a fundamental album insofar as it finally presents “Theusz Hamtaahk,” the first movement of the trilogy of the same name, of which we already knew the second movement, “Ẁurdah Ïtah,” as well as the third, “Mekanïk Destruktïw Kommandöh.”

A piece performed on stage since 1974, “Theusz Hamtaahk” waited years before being engraved for eternity, because Christian Vander wanted each note to be beautiful, magical, essential and definitive. It is with the same respect for the music that he also offers us on this double album a magnificent version of “Mekanïk Destruktïw Kommandöh,” a version which allows itself two great moments with the hallucinating improvisations of Bernard Paganotti and Didier Lockwood. Klaus Blasquiz, who did not appear on the Retrospektïw 3 album, provides lead vocals this time.

Without a doubt, Magma has left the legacy of constantly evolving music, which defies all standards and connivance of rock, evolving in a universe of their own creation.

Legendary Science Fiction Cast Members Reunite for Audio Dramas in Memory of Richard Hatch – Saga Of A Fugitive Fleet

This 4 CD set is housed in a mini box set with a booklet featuring producer’s notes, behind the scenes pictures, a star chart and a dedication to Richard Hatch.

The audio dramas star Terry Carter, Laurette Spang, Jack Stauffer, Noah Hathaway, Anne Lockhart, Sarah Rush and posthumous appearances by Lorne Greene, John Colicos, Richard Hatch and special guest appearances by Robyn Douglass, Sonja Kristina, Ken Bones, John Guilor, John Clegg and Alistair Lock.

These new science fiction stories were to be co-written and co-produced by Richard Hatch, who passed away in 2017 before contributing his ideas, so the project is now dedicated to his memory.

Each story has become more than the sum of its parts, recorded by a cast who wanted to record together again, in the scènes à faire setting of a fleet in space.

Written, directed and produced by Daniel Earnshaw, the new recordings for this one-off production were made in 2018 and 2019.

New SYD BARRETT Tribute Celebrates 50 Years Since The Release of “The Madcap Laughs” and “Barrett”

“LOVE YOU – a tribute to SYD BARRETT” celebrates 50 years since the release of “The Madcap Laughs” and “Barrett”. The double CD box will be released by the prestigious English label Gonzo Multimedia on the 6th of January, 2021. 75 years exactly from Syd’s birth. “LOVE YOU” is a song recorded by Syd in 1970. It’s included in “Barrett”, the second solo album of his.

The new tribute also includes two particularly significant bonus tracks too: “Astronomy Dominé” and “Vegetable Man” characterizing the beginning and the end of Syd’s Floydian era.

Every single note in these two CD’s has been expressed with love. Love shown by the artists who took part by arranging Syd’s music in their own way.

Our project is to collect, for the first time, all the songs Syd Barrett recorded after his experience with Pink Floyd. To realize it we invited many artists from various parts of the world – Italy, Mexico, France, Ireland, UK, USA, Sweden, Japan, Belgium Germany, The Netherlands – and asked them to choose one song and rearrange it in their own way.

Among them and without detracting from the others, we would like to mention:

Luca Ferrari: journalist and writer; one of the first in the world to publish fanzines, articles and books about Syd.

Dave Harris: former lead singer of “Fashion” he is well known to Pink Floyd fans thanks to ZEE:IDENTITY, the album he released in 1984 – and  recently reprinted – together with Pink Floyd’s keyboard player Richard Wright.

John Cavanagh: Voiceover artist, broadcaster, musician, record producer, writer and performer. He is the author of the book “The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn” about the making of the first Pink Floyd album. The book was published in 2003 in the UK and then translated in many languages; Italian and Chinese among them.

Men On The Border: Swedish band devoted to Syd’s repertoire. In 2016 they took part in “Syd Barrett – A Celebration Concert” at the Corn Exchange in Cambridge.

Boris Savoldelli: a gifted vocal performer who is always challenging his “vocal instrument” with new and original ways of singing.

Dario Antonetti: musician from 1984 to today with Kryptästhesie, Gli Acidi Tonanti, Effetto Doppler, Inossidabile Orchestra Valsecchi, La Svolta Psichedelica, La Forma delle Nuvole. Producer of The Vegetable Man Project (a tribute to Syd Barrett focused on the song “Vegetable Man.” Lots of artists from all over the world took part and rearranged the song in their own way. 6 CD’s and a 10” vinyl EP were released between 2002 and 2009).

Nino Gatti: for 40 years historian, expert, biographer and collector of Pink Floyd. He has published fanzines and collaborated with various publications both in Italy and abroad. Author of several books about Pink Floyd and their members, both in his own name and together with The Lunatics. His activity also covers many websites devoted to the band.

On the artwork side:

Ian Barrett: Syd’s nephew; he is a fine visual artist and Jewellery designer. He creates unique jewels using meteorites, fossils and other rare materials.

Matteo Regattin: author of the beautiful graphic novel “Syd Barrett Jugband Blues. A graphic trip on the tracks of Syd Barrett”.

We would like to mention every single musician involved in this tribute, of course. Thanks to their passionate contribution this project has become true.

“A Romantic’s Guide To King Crimson” by The Mastelottos Featuring Drum Legend Pat Mastelotto!

Valentine’s Day 2021 delivers an unexpected and welcome surprise with the release of “A Romantic’s Guide to King Crimson,” the new 12-track album of reinvented King Crimson material by the husband-and-wife duo Deborah and Pat Mastelotto. The collection, which spans the band’s entire history, revisits classics including “Matte Kudasai,” “Heartbeat,” “Moonchild,” “Elephant Talk,” “Peace,” “Exiles,” and “Sleepless.”

Pat Mastelotto is an American rock drummer and record producer who has worked with King Crimson, Mr. Mister, XTC, The Rembrandts and many others. Pat has served as one of King Crimson’s drummers from 1995 to the present day. This album resulted from Pat’s observations and Deborah’s insights made after she intermittently joined Pat on tour as part of the King Crimson entourage from 2008 onwards.

“It’s always been a joke in the King Crimson camp that there’s never a line for the women’s restrooms during intermissions,” said Deborah. “King Crimson plays loud and it’s often intense and raucous. But it can also be haunting and melodic, with some of the most beautiful lyrics ever. We wanted to help uncover that sweetness and introduce the songs to a different type of audience with ‘A Romantic’s Guide to King Crimson.’”

“The album has amazing contributions from all the musicians involved, especially the TOAPP (Three of a Perfect Pair Music Masters Camp) artists,” said Pat. “We experimented together and since they were already lifelong Crim Heads, they were totally into reconfiguring the classic performances or developing totally new parts. So, get ready. You’ll hear some fantastic detail in their playing.”

The recording features material they chose and arranged together with lead vocals by Deborah, a creative Tour de Force in her own right, and with Pat drumming and producing.

“We compiled King Crimson songs and searched for the romanticism in them, then rearranged them,” said Deborah. “The addition of a girl singer automatically changes the feel of those songs and places them in a different genre. Our idea is to create a way for people, especially women, to appreciate the beauty of King Crimson’s music without the fear and sometimes resistance attached to the word ‘prog’ getting in the way. We slow the songs way down and strip them back to their essential lyrics and melodies.”

“In the Crimson tradition, we approached every song as if it was brand new,” said Pat. “At first, it involved tinkering with 20-plus songs in hotel rooms using iPhone apps to choose what worked best for us. We first focused on the lyrics. The words had to resonate and the arrangements had to develop a prog-meets-pop twist to meet my hopes. We had no desire to duplicate the original arrangements. In fact, just the opposite. I was trying to discover where else they could go to expose sweetness, sort of like the old days of cassettes and giving a loved one a mixtape. It’s a gift to fans and a family of former Crims.“

The Mastelottos started the recordings in 2019 by inviting the Texas TOAPP alumni, including members of the Houston symphony, to record in Pat’s home studio in the Texas Hill Country. After a quick trip to Nagoya for his one and only live gig of 2020, which yielded the live Stick Men album “Owari,” Pat returned and spent months with Deborah during the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown finishing the project. The result is an album full of lush nuance and ornamentation designed to put listeners in a meditative and buoyant mood.

“The lockdown resulted in a year of cancelled shows, which gave us time to realize the album,” said Pat. “This grand reboot of humanity made being a couple all the more important, nurturing relationships with people we love, gardening and doing home projects while creating this album together was a beautiful experience.”

“2020 has given us the longest period of consecutive days, weeks and months we’ve ever spent together,” said Deborah. “Our close proximity enabled a continuous dialog and working environment, so we never had to break the creative flow.”

“Working from home meant we could take the listening experience from the studio to the car to the bedroom…to test drive…so to speak,” added Pat.

Fairport Convention has collected together its recordings created for Alan Simon’s various rock operas, including Excalibur: The Celtic Rock Opera, on a ‘catch all’ release for fans to buy the recordings in one place.

The band previously made this compilation available to its fans, but this mainstream release adds three tracks including a previously unreleased studio recording ‘Goodbye My Friends’.

Simon Nicol described working on the songs: “Fairport Convention don’t often get asked to collaborate on outside projects, but none have been more exciting and artistically rewarding than those inspired by Alan Simon. One of the musical highlights of my professional life – and some of the most enjoyable times on and off stage. It’s great to have Fame and Glory as a souvenir of happy times.“

Guitar legend Vinnie Moore, best known for his solo albums and work with rock icons UFO, has released a new video titled “Same Sun Shines” from his latest critically acclaimed album “Soul Shifter”!

Says Vinnie, “I wrote this song at a time when I was struggling to find some light at the end of the tunnel. It was me trying to lift myself up and reconnect with feeling positive and focusing on the good things. I was looking up at the sun and thinking about how it’s always there; always has been. We all go through cloudy patches, but just have to remember that beyond those clouds the light is still there and continues to shine. You will lose it at times, but can always find it again. Hopefully the song is uplifting to others as it was for me. It is one of my favorite songs on the SOUL SHIFTER album and my first choice for a video. We’re all living through unprecedented times right now unfortunately, but have to believe we’re eventually going to come out the other side and find brighter times again.

“Wayne Joyner put this video together for me and created some very cool graphics which he mixed in with footage of me playing. He has also done videos for Kansas, Sevendust, Fozzy, LA Guns, Black Stone Cherry, Dream Theater, Robby Krieger, Jon Anderson, and Devin Townsend.”

Vinnie is currently nominated for “Rock Player Of The Year” by Vintage Guitar Magazine.

The follow up to Vinnie’s critically acclaimed 2015 “AERIAL VISIONS” album was released on October 9, on his label Mind’s Eye Music. Titled “Soul Shifter”, Vinnie’s 9th solo album features guest appearances by legendary artists Rudy Sarzo and Jordan Rudess, with Richie Monica on drums, Michael Bean (bassist from Vinnie’s TIME ODYSSEY album), and Randy McStine on Bass, John Cassidy (Keyboards), and John Pessoni (Drums).

Vinnie is considered one of the originators of shred guitar, and has released eight influential solo albums, and six albums and a LIVE DVD as a member of rock royalty legends UFO. He’s made countless album guest appearances, and has even recorded the soundtrack for a PEPSI TV commercial. He’s been a member of Alice Cooper’s band and was the opening act for RUSH on their ROLL THE BONES tour with his own band. His solo and UFO recordings as well as LIVE performances have amassed rave reviews all around the globe from both fans and music press, catapulting  him into guitar icon distinction! Head Machine’s Orgasm Receives Definitive 50th Anniversary Edition Re-Master – OUT NOW!

Head Machine’s Orgasm album was recorded in 1969 and this is the FIRST OFFICIAL RE-RELEASE of the album since 1971. Every other re-release since then has been a counterfeit.

The album features four members of The Gods: Ken Hensley (also of Uriah Heep, credited here as Ken Leslie), Lee Kerslake (also of Uriah Heep, credited here as Lee Poole), John Glascock (also of Jethro Tull, credited here as John Leadhen) and Brian Glascock (credited here as Brian Poole).

This 50th Anniversary Edition has been given a 2020 re-mastering and its better sound quality than any previous edition. The packaging is a 6-panel digipack and the booklet features new liner notes by David Paramor plus exclusive comments from Ken Hensley, Lee Kerslake and Brian Glascock.

Work on this re-release was completed in early 2020, for a May release which was the 50th Anniversary month of it’s first release. The Covid-19 pandemic delayed that plan and then the publicity was held, when Lee Kerslake and then Ken Hensley passed away, to ensure the painstaking work undertaken on this re-release wouldn’t be mistaken for a cash in.

The original producer David Paramor endorsed the re-release saying “This album is a chapter in the history of everyone involved, and in these days of less prudish attitudes, I hope this 50th Anniversary release will bring some of the tracks to a wider audience.“

URIAH HEEP BASS PLAYER TREVOR BOLDER’S LEGACY ENHANCED BY POSTHUMOUS SOLO ALBUM SAIL THE RIVERS – OUT NOW!

Trevor Bolder was the bass player in Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars, Wishbone Ash and Uriah Heep, but passed away in 2013.  He left behind a solo album which had been mapped out and his friends and family have helped complete it as a labour of love in his memory.

The album features guest appearances by Uriah Heep bandmates Mick Box and Lee Kerslake (who passed away recently) and Wishbone Ash bandmate Laurie Wisefield along with Trevor’s friends.

The artwork on the album is by Ioannis who created the artwork for the last Uriah Heep albums Trevor played on.

Trevor’s widow Shelly Bolder shared these personal comments about the album: “Trevor would have been so proud. It was his dream to produce a solo album which he spent endless hours working so very hard on. Sadly, he did not get to complete this dream. With the magic of friends and family we can all enjoy his beautiful music which can now live on forever. If Trevor were with us, I believe he would have dedicated this to Lee Kerslake who brought so much fun into all our lives.”

The lead vocals on the album are shared between Trevor Bolder and Derk Gallagher who added: “When I heard how far Trevor had got with the album, I knew it had to be finished. His vision for the songs was there, so much was laid out, it just needed his friends and family to help complete it. Trev was with us in every recording session in spirit and this album is part of his legacy.”

The album contains previously unheard titles and Trevor’s own interpretations of tracks he’d given to Uriah Heep to record.

The album has been released on Bolder Records (via Cherry Red) which was named after Trevor’s father’s record shop, in yet another example the album being a family and friends project.  The album is available on CD for Christmas 2020 ahead of its release on streaming platforms in early 2021.
