NYC Prog Trio SkyTalk Release New Video “Hearing The Silence”

“If this impressive debut can introduce them to the same audience that has embraced The Dirty Loops with such enthusiasm, ‘Days in the Sun’ might launch SkyTalk to great heights.” – PROG Magazine

NYC – In support of their latest critically acclaimed EP “Days in the Sun” NYC prog trio SkyTalk has released a new video titled “Hearing The Silence”!

Watch the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BqMQuLg_BhQ&feature=youtu.be

SkyTalk is a 3 piece collaborative effort formed in January 2015 by twin brothers Jordan and Talor Steinberg and Dan “Ello” Costello. Costello was introduced to the twins by a mutual friend while all three were attending Purchase College. They bonded instantly on a similar taste in music, particularly 70’s progressive rock bands like Yes and Rush. Shortly after meeting, the three met up again to jam and quickly found that they had an undeniable musical chemistry, as well as similar inner philosophies on life and music. Eager to form a band, the three began writing original music together and were surprised at the effortlessness of the process, writing five songs in a matter of two months that would later become their “Days in the Sun” EP.

Blending their love of progressive music as well as soul and funk influences, SkyTalk polished their newfound sound and recorded the EP in the following months. With a lyrical emphasis on spiritual concepts, and the shared belief that music is a necessary and powerful force of healing and expression in the world, SkyTalk has released their first EP and is currently working on a new full length record which even further emphasizes these principles.

Here’s what the press have raved about SkyTalk:

“Hearing the Silence is an incredible piece of music. It combines King’s X sounds with fusion and more of a soulful rock element. The instrumental section is pretty crazed. I love the funky bass.” – Music Street Journal

“With licks and riffs boiling hot, ‘Hearing The Silence’ turns out quite dry, its powerful chorus an exemption and its solo section the best showcase of the group’s dexterity.” – dmme.net

“Hearing the Silence features nimble interplay in the rhythm section, with the slap-bass driven groove punctuated by brisk syncopated breaks.” – PROG Magazine

SkyTalk is currently booking shows in New York and in the East Coast, as well as beginning to record a full length album. They are also working on another music video.

Guitar Virtuoso Marcelo Paganini To Release Digitally “First time in Rio – Marcelo Paganini Band Live”

First time in Rio - Marcelo Paganini

For Immediate Release

Guitar Virtuoso Marcelo Paganini To Release Digitally “First time in Rio – Marcelo Paganini Band Live”

Paris – French-Brazilian guitar virtuoso Marcelo Paganini has been away from his native Brazil for more than 11 years when he booked a last minute tour in December 2014 to release there his critically acclaimed prog rock jazz fusion album “2012 Space Traffic Jam”. Three gigs in his home town Belo Horizonte, including the private party for Marcelo’s 50th anniversary, and three gigs in Rio de Janeiro where he has never played before with his band. Being also a film maker, doing what he calls “No BS films” (means “no budget/no script films”) since 2003, Paganini decided to make a rockumentary about the tour: “First time in Rio” (“Primeira vez no Rio”) 34 minutes 57 seconds, color, France, that was concluded in March 2016. There is also one extended version planned, around one hour long, with more live songs. The rock doc will be screened at Portobello Film Festival in London next September. The live soundtrack of the film is being released in April the 14th 2016 on CD Baby “First time in Rio – Marcelo Paganini Band Live”. 49 minutes of music in 6 tracks. 5 from the “2012 Space Traffic Jam” album: “Sphinxes of Babel”, “Crying With a Smile”, “Somewhere Somehow”, “B4ever Now”, “Somewhere Somehow” encore and the instrumental bonus track “Trindade” used in the end credits of the film. All songs and lyrics by Marcelo Paganini.

As a film maker Marcelo Paganini participated in festivals in several countries (Brazil, Netherlands, Iceland, France, UK) and made, among others: “Interactivity”, an experimental film in 35 mm in 2003; signed a distribution deal in Hollywood with Big Films Short/Tigris Films in 2007 for his short “The 8th Bullet”; was selected at Short Film Corner, Cannes Film Festival in 2008 with “The 8th Bullet Samba”; got short listed on “Best Musical Film” at Portobello Film festival in 2011 with “2010 Os Mutantes – Back to Paris” and won the “69 Hours Film Challenge” during the same Festival.

Several top Brazilian musicians participated in the documentary “First time in Rio”: the founders (with Milton Nascimento) of the world famous mouvement “Clube da Esquina” (Corner’s Club) Marcio and Lo Borges, Claudio Venturini from 14 Bis band, Marcio Buzelin from Jota Quest band, one of the most popular rock bands in Brazil, among others. Also interviewed for the film were two out of three original members of Marcelo Paganini’s band in 1983, when he played his first theater show at ICBEU in Belo Horizonte and performed “Sphinxes of Babel” live for the first time, song that opens his “2012 Space Traffic Jam” album released in 2014.

On this tour Marcelo Paganini had a great band in Belo Horizonte with Leo Javali on bass, Walner Lucas on keys and Christian Weber on drums. They played to a full house at Gilboa, the crowd sang along, danced and went wild. There are many videos on-line. They also played the birthday party and the last gig in town at Livraria Status, an open air show which was almost canceled because of the rain. People came anyway with umbrellas and at the end the sun showed up as well.

In Rio, Marcelo Paganini also got some of the best musicians in town, therefore in the country: Milton Nascimento’s keyboard player Kiko Continentino, with whom he had a jazz duo back in 1987. Almost 30 years later, they connected together again like no time had passed, and shared adventurous and burning hot improvisations. Kiko Continentino is one of the most exciting keyboard players in prog rock today and joined one year ago legendary Brazilian jazz band Azymuth. Sergio Brandao, the first call Brazilian bass player in New York City, and Paganini’s friend for over 25 years also joined his band for the Rio leg of the tour. Cassia Eller’s (one of the top Brazilian rock singers who died in 2001) drummer Elcio Cafaro was thrilled to accept the invitation for the shows. Elcio was on the cover of Modern Drummer Magazine Brazil last January. With only two half rehearsals the band fusioned around the complex compositions playing with fire and passion like if they have always played together. The first show was at Audio Rebel on December the 22nd. The 23rd it was at Godofredo Rio and the final gig of the tour was at Vizta on the 27th. The CDs sold out during the tour but are still available on line. Marcelo Paganini came back to France without knowing if or when he will come back to Brazil.

There was an overwhelming response on the Internet when the video of “Somewhere Somehow” on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/13255032254/videos/10153135644402255/ More than a thousand video views in a single day! As Marcelo Paganini puts it: “There are two versions of the song on the live album, completely different from each other, always fresh approach, instant group composition. The encore was melting the walls. Gary Hobish from A. Hammer Mastering in San Francisco did an awesome job, this was one of the best shows in my life and I am glad to share it with the world. Once you walk in the right direction the whole Universe conspires to help you. Sounds like ready-made wisdom, but it turns out to be true. If you try to please everybody you will fail and go crazy. ‘My music will please somebody else, at least I now it pleases itself'(from “Somewhere Somehow”). Sometimes when you don’t know what are you doing means you also don’t know it can’t be done. It is all about letting interesting accidents happen. The music industry is obsessed with audio quality, and rightly so. Me too. But in 2016 people are listening to music on their phones, on ear buds and on computer speakers. Some people, me for example, prefer to hear an spectacular performance with less than ideal sound quality, rather than a lifeless musical noise perfectly recorded. Robert Johnson rules. Same thing applies to my film. It is no budget, not Hollywood, capisco? Do it yourself Mode: ON. If you put ten or more people in there with lights, wires and stuff, nothing spontaneous can happen, or rarely happens. It is completely artificial. Everybody else goes around trying to make ‘good’ films, but we all know most films are ‘bad’. I only go around to make ‘bad’ films. Since I can’t do anything right, even starve as a musician/film maker after all these years, maybe at the end my films will be ‘good’. At least to the right audience. You can not be everything to everybody. The trouble is not being pretentious, the trouble is being up to the pretension. I went there for one month alone with just one old camera, one suitcase, one guitar, one effects rack, one old laptop computer. I made two bands, rehearsed a little bit, played 6 shows made a film, and a live recording out of it. I edited and posted on line several videos. I also composed a couple of songs and did some recordings. How many people can do that? I mean, most people go to Brazil for a month and do nothing but stay in the beach until they turn red shrimp. And my mom asking when I am going to have a real job… The content is the most important thing, even with rough edges. I make stuff happen in front of my lonely camera, I direct the REALITY. I found my public at Portobello Film Festival, we feel the same way. ”

After being added by organizers Rael and JoJo Razor at the last minute to play with the After Hours Electric Prog Jam on the Cruise to the Edge 2015, Marcelo Paganini stunned the audience at the pre-sail party at Magic City Casino in Miami with a very emotional (it was the following day of the Paris Attacks) and breath taking interpretation, even after breaking the D string of his guitar in the middle of a very demanding King Crimson song and keep playing to the end. The performance was shot with 5 cameras and will be available on-line soon. One camera video is already on-line. There was no rehearsals, no scores, no sound check, some musicians met on stage for the first time. They are all passengers of the cruise who organizes themselves over the Internet to play the most demanding prog rock songs without rehearsing. Famous musicians from YES and other bands joined the jam during the late hours.

Cruising from Miami to the Bahamas and back, Marcelo Paganini rocked the ship. Check out the pictures and videos already on-line. Paganini also re-connected with YES bass player Billy Sherwood who agreed to record one song with original YES keyboard player Tony Kaye on the follow up to his album “2012 Space Traffic Jam”. The live band in France has Marcelo Paganini on guitar, Marc Madore on bass and Christophe Bras on drums, they have been together for many years. They will start recording Marcelo Paganini’s new studio album later this year, for a release in early 2017. Eumir Deodato will also contribute. The album is still in the early stages, Paganini composed a couple of very promising tracks that gave him the confidence to push the project forward. The idea is to record later this year and release it in 2017.

There will be another Cruise to the Edge in February 2017 and Marcelo Paganini is hoping, like all the other prog acts not already in the bill, to be invited with his band by Larry Morand. “Cruise to the Edge was one of the best experiences in my life. It was very touching to see several people asking for my band on the cruise’s group, it went straight to my heart. Guitar Player Magazine showed interest in sharing my memories, pictures and videos from CTTE 2015 in a blog that will be on-line soon. They already published an article on my live album,” smiles Paganini. http://www.guitarplayer.com/artists/1013/gp-now-hear-this-alumni-marcelo-paganini-releases-live-in-brazil-film–cd/57587

Marcelo Paganini is currently looking for a singer to record with him, “someone ideally living in France or Europe who loves prog rock jazz fusion, digs my music and has no trouble with odd time signatures and strange melodies and harmonies. I wish Glenn Hughes would be interested, even if he lives in LA. ” Paganini is also looking for a keyboard player to do a couple of gigs in France later in 2016 or early in 2017, “someone glad to learn the parts on the album and who can improvise wildly. The ideal person would also sing to keep the band a quartet and may record on the next album too. If you are interested send me a message on Facebook with some video links”. Paganini recorded most of the keyboards himself on his last album, and wish he had Shiva-like extra arms to play guitar and keys at once.

Keyboard Legend Rick Wakeman To Release “Starship Trooper” Compilation Feat. Steve Hillage, Nik Turner, Steve Howe, William Shatner and Others!

Los Angeles – On April 15th Purple Pyramid records will be releasing an out of this world collection of extraordinary performances by legendary YES keyboardist Rick Wakeman! For more than four decades Rick Wakeman has established himself as a visionary showman without peer, the creator of some of the most extravagant performances, breathtaking soloing and imaginative passages ever preserved on record, or executed on stage.

Aptly titled “Starship Trooper”, this amazing collection contains 2 previously unreleased tracks including a powerful rendition of Tool’s “Sober” plus several more brilliant cover songs of The Who, Pink Floyd, and The Doors including 5 never before heard versions! The compilation also includes performances by Gong’s Steve Hillage, Yes’s Billy Sherwood, Steve Howe and Tony Kaye, William Shatner, Colin Moulding, Jerry Goodman, Nik Turner, Carmine Appice and more!

“Over the last few years I have performed on many tracks as a ‘guest’ but never before has anybody put some of the best of those I played on into a compilation. It’s always challenging to be involved in tracks of other people’s music and other people’s arrangements as it often makes you think and play differently and certainly on many of these tracks I play in quite an unexpected way, but there again, much of my life has been pretty unexpected anyway!” – Rick Wakeman

The liner notes were written by modern rock scholar Dave Thompson, who says of Rick Wakeman, “This most personable of superstars has made inroads into the worlds of journalism, broadcasting and acting – professions which his eye for spectacle, story telling and stylishness might well have made inevitable all along. But he also happens to be among the most gifted, visionary and brilliant performers his chosen instruments have seen.”

Kevin Godley Interview with Goldmine Magazine

KevinGodley_B_W

Kevin Godley’s got Hog Fever
April 7, 2016 | Dave Thompson

It’s difficult to say what Kevin Godley is most famous for.

For some, it’s his four years behind the drum kit with 10cc, a period during which he played, sang and wrote some of the most deathless songs in that band’s entire catalog.

Certainly the response to a BBC documentary aired last year, marking the fortieth anniversary of the band’s “I’m Not In Love” milestone; and, before that, a mighty box set assembling highlights of the band’s entire career, prove that the band still means an awful lot to a lot of people.

For others, though, it’s the left field art rock of Godley and Creme, the duo he formed (of course) with fellow 2.5cc-er Lol Creme following their split from the band, and who introduced themselves with what remains one of the unsung masterpieces of the prog conceptual era, the sprawling Consequences, before embarking upon a string of still effervescent hits – “Englishman in New York,” “Under Your Thumb,” “Snack Attack”… the list goes on.

For others still, it’s his work as a video director, a pioneer in an art form that was still in its infancy when Godley and, again, Creme, turned their attention to it. They wound up being responsible for what are still some of the most vivacious videos of the MTV age – Duran’s “Girls on Film,” Frankie’s “Two Tribes,” Herbie Hancock’s “Rockit,” the Police’s “Every Breath You Take”… the list goes on.

Bonzo Dog Band’s Vivian Stanshall’s “Sir Henry At Rawlinson End” Soundtrack by Michael Livesley and Brainwashing House feat. Rick Wakeman and Neil Innes To Be Released

“A tour-de-force and a work of Art” – Neil Innes

London, UK – Vivian Stanshall, widely acknowledged as one of the most influential recording artists of the 20th Century may sadly no longer be with us but the incredible words he created live on via the celebrated rave-reviewed recreation of his meisterwerk ‘Sir Henry at Rawlinson End’ by actor, singer and comedian Michael Livesley accompanied by his trusted Brainwashing House band.

Originally created for John Peel’s Radio 1 show in the 1970’s, Sir Henry at Rawlinson End – the meandering gin-soaked saga of a crumbling English stately home and the grotesques who inhabit it headed by the heroically drunk Sir Henry – perfectly distilled and encapsulated Viv’s absurdly hilarious wordplay and songwriting which first hit the public consciousness during the 1960s via his work helming the cult Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band.

The show, now in its 6th year and with the full blessing of the Stanshall family, has earned the praise of Viv’s fans, friends and celebrity fans alike including keyboard wizard Rick Wakeman who, due to his admiration for Michael’s interpretation, has joined the show on piano as a guest many times. This has led to RRAW Records, the exciting new label from Rick and music industry veteran Robin Ayling, proudly presenting this brand new original cast recording of this critically acclaimed stage show as their debut LP release. The recording features Rick guesting on piano, and also Viv’s Bonzo bandmate and sometime Rutle and Monty Python member Neil Innes plus Viv’s favourite violinist Susie Honeyman of The Mekons.

Tracks:
1. Aunt Florrie’s Waltz
2. Interlewd
3. Wheelbarrow
4. Socks
5. The Rub
6. Nice ‘N’ Tidy
7. Pigs ‘Ere Purse
8. 6/8 Hoodoo

11. Endroar
12. The Beasht Inshide
13. Junglebunny
14. Aunt Florrie Remembers
15. Rawlinsons & Maynards
16. Papadumb

Here’s what’s being said about Vivian Stanshall’s “Sir Henry At Rawlinson End”:

“Michael Livesley embodies to perfection the spirit and brilliance of Vivian Stanshall and adds his own measure of outrageous talent too” – Stephen Fry

“Sir Henry’s bluster and his epic lack of drawing room manners are still winning fun. All very odd, all very Stanshall!” – Clive Davis, The Times

“A work of lyrical genius and poetry, on a different plane to the rest of the world” – Rick Wakeman

“What a night, an ensemble of madmen at their best, smashing!” – Rupert Stanshall, Vivian’s son

“Brilliant! Berserk! Simply wonderful!” – Suzanne Moore, The Guardian

“Livesley’s performance gives weight and truth to that old theatrical cliché – a comic tour-de-force” – Andrew Male, MOJO

“A distorted-mirror celebration of English eccentricity rooted in a riot of linguistic lasciviousness” – Andy Gill, The Independent

The Security Project Feat. King Crimson, Shriekback and Peter Gabriel Members To Tour In Support of New Live Album

The Security Project Feat. King Crimson, Shriekback and Peter Gabriel Members To Tour In Support of New Live Album

“Great to see some of the original members doing it the right way.” – Steve Hackett

Seattle, WA – The Security Project, featuring members of King Crimson, Shriekback and Peter Gabriel’s original band bring the genre-less masterpieces of Peter Gabriel into the 21st Century on their new live album “Live 1”. Seattle-based Trey Gunn and Michael Cozzi join esteemed drummer Jerry Marotta and NY keyboardist David Jameson to harness the core of these songs. Added to the pedigree of these players is the voice of Brian Cummins, whose interpretations add haunting authenticity to the immaculate arrangements.

These live recordings are a first – no one has dared take on Peter Gabriel’s material at this level before!

Jerry Marotta says: “Peter was always great at setting the table for us as musicians; he always got us started with great ideas… As we were creating SECURITY we had no idea we were making something so unique… I’m proud that with Security Project we’re able to deliver the deepest of those songs, and do it with real conviction — playing them live.”

Marotta and Gunn first met when recording “The First Day” with David Sylvian and Robert Fripp in Woodstock, NY. Their friendship and musical partnership eventually led to The Security Project.

Says Trey, “This material is ridiculously special. Of course, Peter is a special artist. But the material on his first few records, especially the 3rd and 4th ones, are productions with no peer. The Security Project can really play these epic pieces. We bring the same level of detailed precision to arrangements that are present in the originals. And then some. We not only play some of the pieces authentically we also take many pieces and put our own twist on them. ‘Here Comes The Flood’ and our melding of ‘Games Without Frontiers’ with ‘Of These, Hope’ from ‘The Last Temptation of Christ’ soundtrack are just two examples.”

Track listing
1. Lay Your Hands
2. I Don’t Remember
3. No Self Control
4. The Family & Fishing Net

Jerry Marotta
Drummer, Multi-Instrumentalist, and Producer Jerry Marotta has recorded and toured with Peter Gabriel, The Indigo Girls, Hall and Oates, Tears For Fears, Elvis Costello, Paul McCartney, Trey Gunn, Cher, 10,000 Maniacs, David Sylvian, Robert Fripp, Robbie Robertson, Ani DiFranco, Suzanne Vega, Sarah McLachlan, Tony Levin, Todd Rundgren, Los Lobos, and Stevie Nicks, to name only a few. Through his extensive touring experience and performances on hundreds of albums Jerry has worked with many of the greatest artists in the world. His unique musical skills have graced myriad movie soundtracks, video games, TV shows, and percussion software over the past 4 decades.

Trey Gunn
A native Texan who resides in Seattle, Gunn is known for the unusual 10-string touch guitar that he plays. From the blistering live recordings at the Royal Albert Hall in London with David Sylvian and Robert Fripp (“Damage”, Virgin Records) to ten years recording and touring with King Crimson – a group many contend as the most aggressively, adventurous rock band of all time – Gunn is associated with a constant stream of cutting edges projects. Gunn has toured and/or recorded with TOOL, John Paul Jones, Maynard J. Keenan’s “Puscifer”, Vernon Reid, Azam Ali, David Hykes of the Harmonic Choir and Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree. He currently runs his own media label (7d Media) while dividing his time between solo work; his projects TU, KTU, The Security Project, 3Below and Quodia; film/TV scoring and coaching musicians in the creative process.

Michael Cozzi
Originally from Wales & London, Cozzi got his start in the mid 80’s as the guitarist for the group Shriekback which had the pleasure of touring with “Simple Minds” “INXS” and “Peter Gabriel”. In the early 90’s, Cozzi joined “Sky Cries Mary” with whom he co wrote 5 albums and toured extensively. During this time Cozzi opened up his recording studio “Moscozzi Studio” where he co-wrote and produced the last two SCM albums “Here and Now” and “Small Town”. He has written and produced music for bands, films, commercials, and video games, which led to him meeting and working with Trey Gunn. Two years ago Trey asked Cozzi if he knew of a guitarist for The Security Project, Cozzi put his hand up like a kid in the classroom and said “me me me”.

Brian Cummins
Brian has toured all over Europe with The Carpet Crawlers and with Mick Pointer’s Marillion. When originally approached about The Security Project he thought it was a joke. “Play with Jerry Marotta and Trey Gunn? And performing some of my favorite music in the world? Come on!” Once it became clear to Brian this was no joke, he was on the first plane to Woodstock.”

David Jameson
Keyboardist/Eigenharpist David Jameson began his music career in the late 1970’s – the heyday of powerful keyboard players. He spent several years touring with Time Machine and then left the music scene for a career at IBM after completing a PHD in Computer Science at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. At IBM, Jameson created and managed the Computer Music Research group and was elected to the prestigious IBM Academy of Technology. David left IBM to found Digiportal Software and Deskew Technologies that develops the acclaimed Scorecerer sheet music manager application for the iPad. He also designs MaxMSP applications and libraries for live performance and for the Eigenharp – an electronic hybrid instrument akin to a computerized bassoon that features heavily in The Security Project shows. In addition to working with The Security Project, David also performs with Beyond The Wall.

“King Crimson’s Trey Gunn brilliantly injects a wicked warp to Gabriel’s melodic weave.”– G.A.S. Online

“TSP are a mind-blowing amalgam of disparate musical brilliance!” – Gabriel Researcher/Lilywhite Leigh

“Peter Gabriel wrote some of the finest most profound songs of his generation. The Security Project brings them to life with an authenticity that goes beyond mimicking the original recordings. They find the emotional core.” – Glenn Hughes

After the release of The Security Projects new live album and forthcoming West Coast tour, in the fall (October/November) the band will release a second CD of recordings (Live 2+, which is more live tracks combined with some studio tracks). IZZ Guitarist Paul Bremner Set to Release New Studio Album “The Witness”

New York, NY – IZZ guitarist, Paul Bremner’s new studio album, The Witness, is scheduled for release on April 26, 2016. IZZ fans have grown to associate Paul’s distinctive and melodic guitar playing with the “IZZ Sound”. Paul has earned the respect of the progressive rock community by writing such memorable songs as “Light From Your Eyes”, “Illuminata” and co-writing the IZZ classics “Late Night Salvation” and “Can’t Feel the Earth, Part II,” among many others. Paul’s new studio album of 10 songs showcases both his dynamic guitar playing and his penchant for writing emotional music and lyrics.

“I am thrilled to release this collection of songs” says Bremner. “They feature a wide range of moods and emotions and I think IZZ fans will find them intriguing and satisfying.”

The first track of the album “From Here I Can See the Horizon” features a powerful and exciting lead vocal performance from Anmarie Byrnes while the emotionally charged “Warm” spotlights a hauntingly beautiful lead vocal from Laura Meade. The energetic fury of the title track “The Witness” features Brian Coralian on drums while Greg DiMiceli is showcased on several tracks including the jazz/funk-inspired “No Remorse”.

Tom Galgano, who sings lead vocals on several tracks and who engineered and co-produced the album with Bremner notes, “Every song on this album is different and yet they are all connected by Paul’s unique guitar sound and songwriting. It’s been an absolute pleasure working on this album – in fact in many ways it’s been like working on an ‘alternate’ IZZ record.”

The last track on the album, “Last Exit Before Toll” comes in at over 20 minutes and encompasses the full range of Bremner’s musical palette. “I am very happy to include this extended piece which I hope will take the listener on a journey; and I am happy that it features all of my IZZ band mates.”

Paul Bremner’s The Witness will be available for purchase on iTunes, at Amazon.com and at your favorite online retailer on April 26, 2016.

Curved Air Legend Darryl Way Releases New Prog Album “Myths, Legends and Tales” – OUT NOW!

London, UK – Darryl Way is the co-founder of CURVED AIR, a trail blazing rock violinist and composer. “Myths, Legends and Tales” is Way’s latest PROG album which takes its inspiration from some of the mythologies (both ancient and present day) which have inspired him.

“Myths, Legends and Tales” is a mixture of instrumental Symphonic Rock and Songs. The inspiration for the instrumental pieces comes from the mystical world of Greek Mythology, whereas the songs are a mixture of observations about the world we live in and stories and events that have been inspirational.

“As a rock violinist I have always been searching for that elusive sound, turn of phrase and means of expression that would give the electric violin a legitimate voice in the idiom of rock music. With this album, I feel that I have come closer than ever before to achieving this goal. ‘Myths, Legends and Tales’ is another attempt by me to fly the flag for ‘Prog Rock’. I’ve raised the flag up the mast as far as I am able and can only now hope, that it will be seen and appreciated by the devoted fans of this neglected genre.” – Darryl Way

The album features full length prog tracks which will appeal to Curved Air fans and new listeners who have been enjoying Way’s return to the music industry in a burst of fresh creativity.

Australian Prog Artist Ben Craven To Release Third Album “Last Chance To Hear” Featuring Guest Contributions By William Shatner and Billy Sherwood

“Seriously well-distilled and blended” – Van Dyke Parks

Brisbane, Australia – Australian cinematic progressive-rock singer-songwriter Ben Craven is releasing his highly anticipated third album “Last Chance To Hear”. The new release features guest contributions by YES legend Billy Sherwood and iconic actor William Shatner (yes, Capt. Kirk himself!!!). A new single titled “The Remarkable Man” is available for immediate download when pre-ordering the album. It’s an imaginary theme song from a spy thriller movie franchise.

Says Ben, “ ‘Last Chance To Hear’ is loosely inspired by the end of the music industry as we knew it. There’s never been a time when so much new music was being made by so many people and being listened to by so few people. The concept of paying for new music is now alien to a lot of the audience. Digital downloads have made physical media virtually obsolete. Streaming services mean that anybody making new music is now competing with the whole history of recorded music. And the album format is in danger of becoming extinct. There’s never been a time full of more ‘opportunity’ than now. So I made an album about it.

“The new album is a logical progression from my previous album, ‘Great & Terrible Potions’. The arrangements are more confident and more purposeful. But probably the biggest difference is that there are fewer vocals on this new one. ‘Last Chance To Hear’ is more about having the confidence, and presumably the competence, to let the music do the talking.”

The obvious question is how did Ben recruit such iconic artists as William Shatner and Billy Sherwood to guest on his new album? Ben explains, “I was not my first choice to perform the vocals on ‘Spy In The Sky Part 3’. I pored over the melody and the lyrics to get them just right. But when I finally ran through the completed lyrics in my head, I could only imagine a speaking voice.

“Immediately I thought ‘William Shatner!’ and loved the idea. Then reality kicked back in and I got on with the job of singing my own vocals. Except the idea never went away. It kept nagging and eating away at me, like all good ideas do. And here I was willing to give up my own vocal performance on the most dramatic piece of music on the album! So I had to stop ignoring it.

“I reached out to Billy Sherwood who as you know produced William Shatner’s last album, the excellent ‘Ponder The Mystery’. Billy would have been my first and only choice to record the session. I asked him if he thought the concept of having Shatner appear one of my songs would even be possible. Amazingly, everyone agreed, and Billy is the one who actually made it happen.

“Deep down I felt a lingering terror that the music might collapse under the weight of a William Shatner vocal performance. But I suspect Shatner realized the opposite. He played the lead vocalist role perfectly, as boldly and grandly as the music aspired to be. It is an awesome combination and he brought the track up to a new level altogether. I love it.”

Hailing from Brisbane, Australia, immersed as a toddler in the era of big prog rock, Craven taught himself guitar and keyboards and joined a series of bands. None of them made it and none of them remotely played the kind of music that had been burned into his mainframe as a kid. Nonetheless, the songs he wrote accumulated steadily. In 2005, Craven dispensed entirely with the band approach and recorded his debut album, “Two False Idols” under the name of Tunisia. The result was a work of incredible maturity, with influences ranging from Pink Floyd and Brian Wilson to the likes of Bernard Herrmann and John Barry.

Says Ben, “My usual suspect influences are Pink Floyd, Mike Oldfield, Yes and King Crimson. But just as important are composers like Bernard Herrmann, John Barry, Henry Mancini and John Williams. I seem to blend progressive music with film soundtrack elements. I’m also a Brian Wilson tragic.”

As Craven worked his first album it became painfully obvious that the music business was in the midst of a sea change, and most of the old guard didn’t seem to realize they were the cause. Very quickly he took an anti-DRM stance and released the live acoustic EP “Under Deconstruction” as a high-quality free download.

Craven stepped up a gear for his sophomore album, “Great & Terrible Potions”. Delivering on the cinematic promise of “Two False Idols”, “Potions’” went widescreen as Craven blurred the boundaries between conventional songs and orchestral soundtracks. Augmented by a stunning cover designed by legendary artist Roger Dean (Yes, Uriah Heep, Asia), “Potions” was dense, complicated and unashamedly pretentious – everything a good prog rock album should be! Or, to put it another way, Craven sounded exactly like someone reveling in the creative freedom that came only from not worrying about what others wanted, and delivering what he felt instead.

And now, much to the excitement of Prog fans worldwide, Ben is releasing his latest masterpiece “Last Chance To Hear”!

Here’s what the press raved about Ben Craven’s previous release:

“Heavy-duty prog rock monster” – Anil Prasad, Innerviews

“Cracking virtuoso performance by an absurdly talented individual” – Classic Rock Society

“Craven’s one-man-band production is a prog opus for the 21st century” – Musoscribe

“All the drama, thunder, strum and drang you could want the spiritual grand child of Rick Wakeman and Keith Emerson to bring” – Midwest Record

“Craven’s tremendous ability to combine memorable hooks with complex progressive rock and cinematic orchestral music is astounding” – Sea Of Tranquility

“Press play and this album does the rest” – Muzikreviews

In support of “Last Chance To Hear” Ben is putting together a one-man show for the album launch event in April, and hopes to develop it for further performances.

In closing Ben has this to impart to his fans and listeners, “This is a desperate time for music. The landscape is littered with album reissues, remixes, repackages and compilations. Record companies are trying to squeeze out every last cent while they still can. Some artists only put out new albums so they can tour. Others have decided that nobody wants to hear their new music so they don’t bother making any. There’s so much noise out there now that it’s virtually impossible for anyone to stand out without the marketing might of a big record label. I want people to know that there are still those of us flying under the radar, the obsessives, who make music because it keeps us alive. With no realistic expectations of financial success, it’s the anticipation of the next song, the one we haven’t finished yet, that keeps us going!”
