Guitarist & Composer Marcus Corbett To Release New Album “Every Little Spirit” October 2016

“Perfect Sunday morning music”

London, UK – Much to the anticipation of music aficionados worldwide, music artist Marcus Corbett will be releasing his new album “Every Little Spirit” in October 2016! Marcus is an acoustic guitarist, singer and composer based between Marlborough, UK and Pune, Maharashtra, India. Gradually, during repeated expeditions in India over the last decade or more, having immersed himself in the fundaments of North Indian classical music Marcus has begun to reap the rewards of his involvement in the musical life of Pune, Maharashtra and Gadag in North Karnataka.

The result is a generous spirited cultural collaboration that allows his music to come to life while paying homage to the tradition he loves. Here there is ambition as two violins are at work, and as he says, “One violin may be a line drawing but two become cinema – and with the risk associated with such potential drama no one performance is the same as the last. The beautiful challenge in this search is to keep the individual cultural charm, to make the bell ring true. And to maintain the power and integrity of the music.”

“With his deep affinity with Indian classical music and his expertise in soulfully conveying its essence on the humble acoustic guitar. …where other guitar maestros have dipped their toes…. he’s taken the integration a stage further and his collaboration with tabla virtuosos Nitin Gaikwad and Sharanappa Guttaragi on this disc is both fiery and rewarding.” – Fatea

On the subject of his musical influences, aside from his times in India, Marcus states, “I’ve been affected by John Martyn, Nick Drake, Roy Harper – anybody that makes the guitar sing or speak. John McLaughlin with the early Mahavishnu Orchestra and Shakti was a revelation as has been Jerry Garcia’s soulful musicality. Recently Frank Yamma has got under my skin”.

Acclaimed producer and composer Sam Williams (Supergrass/The Go Team!) has co-produced the first track on the album, “Strung Deep” – a remix of Castanets from Marcus’ previous EP release of the same name. Marcus explains how this unlikely-seeming collaboration came about:

“While mixing ‘Castanets’ for the last record (Strung Deep) I discovered a heartbeat in the rhythmic cycle that expressed something quintessential and more about the track. It has a breezy optimism that continues from where the album ‘Strung Deep’ left off. I needed a different approach, someone outside of the Indian classical world who could the sense the potential and produce it. A chance meeting with Sam Williams during which I heard some of his recent work was the catalyst to our working together. Sam has created a great rhythm led track to fit the varying time signatures and give the looping swirl a kick. He also found some words to go with the emerging vibe while keeping some essential ingredients of the original. It is a remix which contemporizes the song in a way which keeps the flavour of the original and casts new light on what I do”.

Recorded with Abhijit Saraf at Musical Stars Studio in Pune, Maharashtra; and in Gadag, Karnataka and in Oxford (UK), Corbett is accompanied for “Every Little Spirit” by tabla players Nitin Gaikwad and Sharanappa Guttaragi. The seductive vocal of renowned classical singer Saylee Talwalkar takes us into his world. The storyline unfolds amidst the masterful weave of bansuri flute player Milind Date, and is carried further by the cinematic violins of Anjali Singde-Rao, Sanjay Upadhye and Sachin Ingale with a cameo appearance by celebrated Oxford-based virtuoso Bruno Guastalla on cello.

Comprised of eight tracks spread across 59 minutes, “Every Little Spirit” is lyrically themed and is a reflection upon how our roots entwine with all life; how our joy and sorrow is shared; that while life is a gift, for which acknowledgment and thanks are due, no one said the living of it was easy and how we instinctively seek release, to “get set free” from the emotional and physical turmoil of existence. “This could be you, this could be me….”.

“Perfect Sunday morning music… I really enjoyed listening through it – it is a very well paced and interesting listen” – Nigel House at Rough Trade

Having toured successfully in Germany and Holland, played around the UK, and gained press attention from all over the world for his previous releases, Marcus’ reputation for his skillful combining of the worlds of Indian Classical and British folk music, while being ambitious and yet aware of the limitations, will inevitably continue to grow and grow, and his status as one of the great explorers of these musical borderlands will continue to be celebrated.

Cure for Gravity Announce the Release of Their Cinematic and Atmospheric Self-Titled Debut

Cure for Gravity Announce the Release of Their Cinematic and Atmospheric Self-Titled Debut

Oakland, CA – Cure for Gravity delivers an entrancing amalgam of atmospheric synth/alt/prog rock that is cinematic in nature. The trio of Joe Markert (lead vocals, keys, guitar), Chris Gamper (drums and percussion), & Dave Walcott (lead guitar) will release their self-titled debut Cure for Gravity worldwide both physically and digitally on October 14, 2016. Sometimes classified in genres ranging from Progressive Pop or Synth Rock to Cinematic Alt Rock, Cure for Gravity finds comfort in playing music to a rare world and its listening inhabitants, and will be touring in support of the release throughout 2016 and 2017.

On their new album, the band uses an eclectic blend of electronic and live elements to untether their listeners from this world and transport them into an audio landscape of their own design. Cure for Gravity draws inspirations from an eclectic range of sources, from classic Prog-Rock bands like early Genesis or King Crimson to the experimental electronica of John Cage, at times evoking The Cars or Emerson Lake & Palmer, as well as more recent references like Radiohead, Album Leaf, God is an Astronaut, and The National. It is precisely this eclectic delivery that keeps their fans engaged from track to track and show to show.

Lyrically, Cure for Gravity deals with isolation and helplessness in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds. The theme not only fits well with the musical background, but also with the turbulent times we are living in. “BlackMetal,” the album’s first single, explores dark dystopian territory that eerily reflects today’s political landscape, and the band has produced a cinematic music video for the single that perfectly captures this mood. “Push,” their second single, delivers a more optimistic outlook while simultaneously retaining the darker feel of the albums co-inhabitants. “Sunspots,” another of the album’s standout tracks, is an unsettling and dark blend of a Pink Floyd inspired soundscape alongside lead singer Joe Markert’s haunting and Jeff Buckley-esque vocals.

The remainder of the album maintains this sonic thread, shifting us back and forth across the red line from the melodic anthem of “Tonight” all the way through the final John Barry-sounding closer “Killing for the Queen.” With their new release, Cure for Gravity has displayed a full ownership of their sound, curating their diverse blend of influences into a unique musical offering while showcasing an impressive range of musical talents.

No strangers to hard work, the band has created their own independent record label, Cure for Gravity Records, to release this debut. Cure for Gravity was recorded at 25th Street Recording in Oakland, CA, and produced by Gabriel Shepard and Joe Markert. Expect more new music, the release of the “BlackMetal” music video, and touring both in the USA and Internationally throughout 2016 and 2017.

The Cure for Gravity album will be released worldwide on October 14, 2016 on all digital platforms and in select retailers.

Here’s what the press have raved about the Security Project’s “Live 1”:

“Strong marks go to this unique project that will appeal to Peter Gabriel fans and progressive rock aficionados. This is a live album, but the level of musicianship among the band members makes that easy to forget until hearing the audience applause following the tracks. Writing as a Gabriel fan myself, the telling fact is that I’ll probably play Live 1 more often than I play Gabriel’s own recent reinventions.” – Jeff Elbel, IE Magazine

“The Security Project has captured not only the sonic details of Gabriel’s music but also the revered artist’s quirkiness.” – Cryptic Rock

“The Security Project expertly reimagines Peter Gabriel’s groundbreaking early output, creating an immersive experience both in performance and on its debut release Live 1. The group goes far beyond conventional tribute band territory, infusing the songs with new arrangements and elements while staying true to the spirit of the material. Gabriel enthusiasts across the board will be taken by the band’s high-octane approach full of drive, determination and energy.” – Anil Prasad, Innerviews

“What Security Project does is accomplish what’s been too long in coming: positioning Peter Gabriel’s music as repertoire. It’s clear that while the band treats Gabriel’s music with no shortage of reverence, it’s also about a more open-ended approach to the music.” – John Kelman, All About Jazz

“Somehow, like Gabriel, the Security Project’s performance strikes the right esoteric balance between the tribal groove of world music and the inscrutable logic of the best progressive rock.” – Peter Lindblad, Elmore Magazine

Todd Rundgren Interview with the Huffington Post

Todd Rundgren Ridgefield med

A Conversation with Todd Rundgren

Mike Ragogna: Todd, on your new release An Evening With Todd Rundgren Live At Ridgefield, you perform material from Nazz and Utopia in addition to your own with some surprising revisits, making the project feel like a career celebration. Is that how this felt when you were performing and recording this concert?

Todd Rundgren: Yeah, but not necessarily in those terms. In recent years, I’ve been experimenting with different musical forms and different ways to present myself. As a result, there are things that don’t get played. I’ll put it that way. One of the paradoxes of having a career in which you continue to create as opposed to resting on your laurels all the time is that fan favorites from decades ago don’t get played as often, or if they do get played, I sometimes readapt them to a style that I might be dabbling in. It reached a certain point where I felt like I had toyed with my audience for long enough and would just give them the more familiar stuff in a way that was more familiar, as opposed to just rearranging things. On any particular night, we have a list of fifty songs and I’ll pick about half of them to perform. Even though the release is a document of a particular evening, it isn’t necessarily representative of any other particular evening, it’s just the songs we decided to play that particular night. On that tour and on the recent tours that I’ve done with this show, the set list is different every night, both because we as players will get bored with it if we keep playing the same thing every night, and also I have fans who sometimes show up to more than one show, and that gives them an opportunity to hear more material than would fit into a single show.

ZAP Feat. Zappa Vocal Legend Ike Willis, Chip Z’Nuff & Sean McKee Release Digital Single
“Air Traffic Control” on Steve Vai’s Favored Nations

Chicago, IL – New band ZAP has released a digital single called “Air Traffic Control” on Steve Vai’s Favored Nations label. The band is made up of Emmy-nominated composer Sean McKee, who is also collaborating with Jon Anderson from YES on a concept album project, Ike Willis, the voice on numerous Frank Zappa albums, and Grammy-nominated bassist Chip Z’Nuff (Enuff Z’Nuff, Missing Persons, Adler’s Appetite).

“Air Traffic Control” started as a 60 second piece that was commissioned by Lee Abrams (Co-Founder of XM Radio) to have McKee write a piece of music in the style of Frank Zappa, and produce a video to commemorate the 20th anniversary of his passing. McKee wrote and performed all instruments, including recording the keyboard parts using a then-prototype Lineage MIDI guitar from Inspired Instruments.

Besides being a musician, McKee is known as a pioneer in the field of image processing, creating technology used for new movies and classic film restorations, along with 2D to 3D conversions, with the technology he led development on being used daily in Hollywood. For several years, one of his clients was Gail Zappa, Frank’s widow, and he worked on restoring film elements from Frank’s archive, and also helped to recover lost video masters that Gail hadn’t seen in years.

According to McKee, “When I heard the news of Gail’s passing last October, I was deeply saddened, she was very kind to me, and an incredibly smart woman who pioneered the concept of artists’ retaining the rights to the master recordings. I decided to take the 60 second piece and finish it as a proper song, as a memorial to Gail and tribute to Frank, who was a big influence on my playing.”

McKee crafted the song starting from the existing 60 second guitar solo, building a complete song around it, similar to methods Zappa incorporated. He then asked Ike Willis to sing on the track and add another guitar solo. Die hard Zappa fans will also notice a lyrical reference to the infamous ‘White Zone’.

McKee continues, “The original solo I wrote is what ends the song, and Ike takes the first guitar solo. If you close your eyes, you can see Frank and hear the lineage. When Frank got sick, he asked Ike to carry on his music, and while this is a new, original song, his playing and voice carries the torch for both the legacy fans as well as a new generation of listeners.”

McKee then asked Chip Z’Nuff to play bass on all parts except for the bass under the solos, which McKee had recorded originally.

The end result is a modern interpretation and homage to a timeless and unique style.

Hard Driving Rock Debut CD By Neon Alley Feat. Guitarist / Vocalist David Vaccaro To Be Released

Hard Driving Rock Debut CD By Neon Alley Feat. Guitarist / Vocalist David Vaccaro To Be Released

Boston, MA – Known for (what the band likes to call) Modern Classic Rock, Neon Alley takes you back to an era when Rock wasn’t about making a quick buck, but about songs written and performed from the heart.

BAND: David Vaccaro – Lead vocals, guitars, keyboards. Mike McDonald – Bass, Vocals. Scott Marion – Drums & percussion

BACKGROUND: David Vaccaro’s story in music has a rare upward sweep. Vaccaro has journeyed from hardscrabble Boston club dates to the 90’s music scene of Los Angeles and creative collaborations with some of melodic rock’s platinum selling vocalists. With the self-titled debut album of his new band Neon Alley (out on DMV Music), Vaccaro revisits that visceral soulfulness of his early days. This collection of originals including a cleverly re-imagined cover is perfectly crafted for sweat-soaked live performances.

And Neon Alley has been doing just that, sweat-soaked live performances in clubs in and around Central Massachusetts, working their live show and earning a reputation as one of the best live bands in the area.

David’s previous CD releases under the band name V-Project include Lost Demos and New Machine.

Lost Demos, for the most part an acoustic rock CD, features collaborations and vocals by Robin McAuley (Grand Prix, McAuley Schenker Group, Survivor, Raiding The Rock Vault), James Christian (House of Lords), Christopher Post (Dillinger) and Dennis Gresham.

V-Project’s Lost Demos garnered glowing reviews (see insert) from magazines and blogs in both the U.S. and Europe.

Vaccaro soon began work on his second CD that would be titled New Machine.

With Robin McAuley once again lending his distinctive vocal edge to four of the CD’s tracks, New Machine was a decidedly more amped up affair. A big step forward as well for Vaccaro as he is featured for the first time on five of the CD’s tracks in a lead vocal capacity, making over half of the CD, a one man show.

Reviews of V-Project’s New Machine were very positive, with the tracks You Don’t Care and Disclaimer receiving significant airplay on secondary radio markets around the US and on internet podcast radio shows.

NEON ALLEY: With his new 3-piece power trio–Neon Alley, Vaccaro is poised to give fans a neon blast of guitar-driven modern classic rock. In support of the new CD release the band has teamed up with Boston film Director Vladimir Minuty to create videos for the first two singles That’s How It Is and I Only Want To Be With You.

Previous Release: V-Project – Lost Demos
(DMV Music)

“The overall outcome of the album is astounding…..Lost Demos one of the finest albums of the year from this region or any other.” (Metronome Magazine, Boston)

“From the start, I was hit by “Only Friend”, written by McAuley/Vaccaro/Post. It’s universally relatable lyrics of gratitude, contrasting harmonies, percussion and Latin style guitar make this one a keeper. “The Good Times”, with its beautifully inviting guitar opening, is also impossible to resist.” (Carol Anne Szel for Inside Connection Magazine)

“These numbers aren’t your usual melodic rock that you’ve heard a thousand times already over the last 15 or so years – instead they are of an electric/acoustic relaxing quality that originally turned you on to the incredible material found on albums like Led Zeppelin 3 and 4 but brought more up to date without losing that bright, glowing, atmospheric style that new technology seems to kill these days.” (MetalliVille Webzine, Sheffield, England)

“A good collection of ballad and mid tempo pop rockers, made even better by some outstanding vocalists.” (Melodicrock.com, Australia)

Previous Release: V-Project – New Machine
(DMV Music)

“Solid and unassuming, yet deceptively addictive, this is a hard rock album worth hearing.” (Metalstorm Magazine)

“I like this CD very much, especially ”Somebody Like You” and “ You Don’t Care”. The production is good and the guitar playing great.” (Music Producer Tom Werman – Producer of 23 gold and platinum rock albums. Artists include: Motley Crue, Cheap Trick, Ted Nugent, Molly Hatchet, Blue Oyster Cult, Twisted Sister, and more…)

“The New Machine works! These are great tunes for a backyard barbecue!” (Home of Rock, Das Rock Magazine, Germany)

“All the songs are great with at least half going into immediate rotation on my playlist.” (24Rock.net)

“I think Vaccaro has hit pay dirt with the fittingly titled New Machine. Go ahead take a ride, you’ll love it.” (Metronome Magazine, Boston)

Prog Ensemble Light Freedom Revival Drops Debut Single “Close Your Eyes And Feel”

Featuring Jamie Glaser of AndersonPonty Band!

Toronto, Canada – Exciting project Light Freedom Revival, based in Toronto, Canada, has just released its debut single titled “Close Your Eyes And Feel.” The project is led by Canadian singer-songwriter John Vehadija who is teaming up with the likes of Billy Sherwood, Oliver Wakeman and Eric Gillette for his highly anticipated upcoming album due for release this Fall.

Based on John’s interpretation of reunion, “Close Your Eyes And Feel” tells the story of a short-lived romance between a couple who discover that they were bound by their love in a previous life. Faced with the decision of accepting their interlocked souls or searching for a fresh start, the pair cannot resist their infinite compassion for one another. In the end, they are brought together once more to represent the power of history in every loving relationship.

John, who wrote the track, said: “This song stayed with me for a while, I had to get it out there!”

Accompanying John, who also performs lead vocals on the track, is Marisa Frantz (lead vocals and violin) who claims: “I love the final mix of the song. Very full sound. Nicely done.”

Jamie Glaser (acoustic guitar) added: “I wanted to get the right attitude, cuz it’s such a cool track!”

Phil Ockelford (electric guitar & bass), Eric Butterfield (drums), Aly Frank (piano & keyboards) and Artem Zhulyev (sax) also contributed to the single. Aly said: “The piano sounds very nice just on its own.”

The single EP contains the full studio track alongside four brand new alternatives, including acoustic, symphonic, remix and instrumental versions.

John explained: “The contrast between the symphonic and the remixed versions was chosen to symbolize the difference between the past and present lifetimes.”

These unique approaches not only showcase the astounding versatility of Light Freedom Revival but also bring the original melody of “Close Your Eyes And Feel” into thrilling new genres.

“Close Your Eyes And Feel” was mixed by John Vehadija, remixed by the Kinkades and produced by Positive Imagination Media.

Todd Rundgren – “Black & White” Video Premiere – Billboard Magazine

Watch Todd Rundgren’s ‘Black and White’ From ‘An Evening With Todd Rundgren — Live at the Ridgefield’: Exclusive Premiere
8/18/2016 by Gary Graff

Todd Rundgren plays in a lot of configurations, from technology-aided one-man shows to romps with Ringo Starr’s All-Starr Band. But the performance represented on the upcoming An Evening With Todd Rundgren — Live at the Ridgefield album and video — check out an exclusive premiere of the track “Black and White” below — is a payoff for the faithful fans who like their Rundgren repertoire to sound familiar.

“It’s a collection of stuff that rarely gets played in the same context,” Rundgren tells Billboard about the 18-song set (25 on video). “One of the downsides of continuing to put out new material is I tend to want to go out and present that material in a proper context, and often that context is not one that allows me to dwell in the past and play such an array of oft-requested tunes — and even if I do play some of those older tunes they might be re-adapted to suit the kind of presentation I’m doing.

“So these are certainly songs people want to hear every night, like the ol’ ‘Hello It’s Me’ and stuff like that. A lot of people still want to hear the material the way they remember it, and this was an opportunity to recharge the audience after kind of wearing them out a bit, and a chance for me to revisit some material that I perhaps hadn’t played in quite a long time, or in some cases never.”
