The Security Project Feat. King Crimson & Peter Gabriel Members with Special Guest Happy Rhodes To Tour USA October/November 2016

Austin, TX – When Jerry Marotta or Trey Gunn has an idea often it is a good one. But when they have the same good idea at the same time it promises to be a great one. This was the case when they turned to each other and said: “Happy Rhodes. The Security Project should do something with Happy Rhodes.”

This is exactly what is happening with the fall tour. Happy Rhodes is an American singer, songwriter, instrumentalist and electronic musician with a four-octave vocal range. She has produced 11 solo recordings. Marotta and Gunn play on a several of them.

With the addition of Happy on lead vocals, The Security Project is able to dig deeper into Gabriel’s material and take it even further (imagine Kate Bush singing Gabriel tunes with The Security Project as the instrumentalists.) Marotta says “Happy brings with her the chance to play other material we have always talked about doing. Stuff from David Sylvian, Kate Bush and other gems from Trey’s and my past work, addition to Happy’s catalog. We are excited!”

This October also sees the release of “Live 2” – the follow up to their highly acclaimed Live 1. Meticulously engineered by guitarist Michael Cozzi (mastering engineer Chris Athens calls it one of the best mixed live records he has ever worked on) the reviews have been overwhelming positive.

“The Security Project expertly reimagines Peter Gabriel’s groundbreaking early output, creating an immersive experience both in performance and on its debut release Live 1. The group goes far beyond conventional tribute band territory, infusing the songs with new arrangements and elements while staying true to the spirit of the material. Gabriel enthusiasts across the board will be taken by the band’s high-octane approach full of drive, determination and energy.” – Anil Prasad, Innerviews

“The Security Project Live is a beautifully reverential and creative reinterpretation of these Peter Gabriel classics!” – Kevin Killen, engineer of Gabriel’s “So” record

“What Security Project does is accomplish what’s been too long in coming: positioning Peter Gabriel’s music as repertoire. It’s clear that while the band treats Gabriel’s music with no shortage of reverence, it’s also about a more open-ended approach to the music.” – John Kelman, All About Jazz

“Somehow, like Gabriel, the Security Project’s performance strikes the right esoteric balance between the tribal groove of world music and the inscrutable logic of the best progressive rock.” – Peter Lindblad, Elmore Magazine

The Security Project sees this fall tour as a move into a new phase of the band’s life. These exquisite players – with their rich history of working with King Crimson, Shriekback and Gabriel’s original band – see bringing in a female vocalist, with the musicianship of Rhodes, as a way to step even deeper into the material and expand what the band can bring to the stage.

Trey says, “I’ve known Happy for many years – her husband, percussionist Bob Muller, was my key partner in The Trey Gunn Band. I have always hoped to find the right situation where we could work together. This is it. I’m thrilled that we can now draw on a broader base of material. Jerry and I speak almost daily about pieces we could do with her. Of course, we will be hitting Gabriel’s material solidly, but with the addition of even newer fresh twists.”

The follow up to their acclaimed first CD, “Live 2”, comes out in mid-October on 7d Media in the USA, GEP Records in Europe and WowWow in Japan.

The Security Project:

David Jameson
Keyboardist/Eigenharpist David Jameson began his music career in the late 1970’s – the heyday of powerful keyboard players. He spent several years touring with Time Machine and then left the music scene for a career at IBM after completing a PHD in Computer Science at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. At IBM, Jameson created and managed the Computer Music Research group and was elected to the prestigious IBM Academy of Technology. David left IBM to found Digiportal Software and Deskew Technologies that develops the acclaimed Scorecerer sheet music manager application for the iPad. He also designs MaxMSP applications and libraries for live performance and for the Eigenharp – an electronic hybrid instrument akin to a computerized bassoon that features heavily in The Security Project shows. In addition to working with The Security Project, David also performs with Beyond The Wall.

What’s being said about The Security Project:

“Great to see some of the original members doing it the right way.” – Steve Hackett

“A Scary Good Show!” – Progression Magazine

“Sound as good — at times maybe better — than even Gabriel nowadays.”– Time Out, NYC

“King Crimson’s Trey Gunn brilliantly injects a wicked warp to Gabriel’s melodic weave.”– G.A.S. Online

“TSP are a mind-blowing amalgam of disparate musical brilliance!” – Gabriel Researcher/Lilywhite Leigh

“Peter Gabriel wrote some of the finest most profound songs of his generation. The Security Project brings them to life with an authenticity that goes beyond mimicking the original recordings. They find the emotional core.” – Glenn Hughes

Prog Legends Gong To Release New Studio Album “Rejoice! I’m Dead!”

For Immediate Release

Prog Legends Gong To Release New Studio Album “Rejoice! I’m Dead!”

Their first album since the death of Daevid Allen – Released on Madfish September 16, 2016!

London, UK – Some say it couldn’t, or shouldn’t, be done. How could Gong exist without Daevid Allen? A few minutes into listening to the title track of their brand new album, “Rejoice!”, aspersions will be cast aside. It is undeniably Gong

Gong have had many, many line-ups. Formed when Australian beatnik/freak Daevid Allen quit The Soft Machine and moved to France at the tail end of the ’60s, before debuting in 1970 with Magick Brother, the band have remained fluid, even playing without their founder from the mid-to-late ’70s, fracturing and reassembling and constantly taking on new shapes and forms: an undeniably amorphous unit. David Bowie told Vanity Fayre in 2003 that Daevid Allen’s Banana Moon is one of his favorite albums, and today everyone from indie artists Temples and Ty Segall to hip hop artist Madlib and techno DJ Surgeon are inspired, and borrow, from Gong’s music and ideology. The funky grooves, avant-garde flourishes and counter-cultural stance is timeless. So timeless that Gong fully exists even without their creator and guiding light. For those who are unaware Daevid Allen died in March 2015.

“I have been co-presenting The Interesting Alternative Show with Steve Davis for the last six years or so,” begins the story of how Gong’s new singer/guitarist Kavus Torabi met Daevid. “In 2011, Steve rang up excitedly saying ‘You’ll never guess who we’ve got as a guest next week… Daevid Allen.’ I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I’d met Daevid briefly a couple of times with Tim Smith (Cardiacs) but never properly. As a lifelong Gong lover, this filled me with delight. Straight away the two of us seemed to really click, within minutes the conversation had taken a turn for the absurd and I was more than a little flattered when he told me, after about an hour, ‘You’re a poet man, I can tell.’

“Over the forthcoming months we would text each other on a fairly regular basis, whenever Daevid was in town playing a gig he’d get in touch to see if I wanted to come along. ‘I’ve been thinking about this a lot,’ he told me, ‘Do you want to play guitar in Gong?’ This came somewhat out of the blue. ‘But you’ve never actually heard me play, Daevid’ I told him. ‘I don’t need to,’ he replied. ‘I felt the same way about Mike Howlett when I met him too and I’m never wrong about this stuff.’ Of course I said ‘Yes’ instantly. ‘You know, I can’t play like Steve Hillage,’ I told him. His response was priceless ‘I don’t care about what you can’t do, I care about what you can do.’

“Since being a teenager, I have often come up with riffs that, while I loved them, had to be shelved because I always felt they sounded a little TOO much like Gong. One of which I started playing. Daevid got up and started improvising lyrics and melodies over the top, his beautiful eyes twinkling. This would become ‘When God Shakes Hands With The Devil (from I See You).’ ‘Wow Kav!’ Daevid said afterwards, ‘Got any more like that?’ Realizing that 20 years or so of shelved riffs had not gone to waste, I blurted out ‘Yeah! Loads!’

Kavus joined Gong in 2014 in time for the last album the “new” band made with Daevid, “I See You,” unaware of the direction his new gig as a guitar player would take. “It was shortly after our Brazilian tour in March 2014 that, following a broken arm, Daevid told us that he had been diagnosed with cancer and would be unable to fulfill the 47 date world tour that had been booked to promote (the album). To my, and I guess all of our, minds there was no question that he would beat this thing. The most enlightened and switched on guy I ever knew, with light shooting out of every pore, he seemed indomitable. Nonetheless, he started making noises about how he wished the band to continue without him. I think everyone in the band felt ambivalent about this, particularly as we watched the majority of the gigs get canceled upon news that he was too unwell to fulfill them. I certainly had no desire to front it. I have my own band Knifeworld in which I play this role. We did, however, have a new album to promote, so we reluctantly agreed to play the remaining shows and bow out gracefully after that. Each night we sent Daevid recordings or links to YouTube footage and, from his sick bed in Australia, he wrote gushing praise about what had happened to the band and how this was exactly what he had hoped. By the end of the tour and with the full blessing of Daevid we decided to carry on.

“ ‘Rejoice! I’m Dead!’ came together over several weeks in an East London rehearsal studio. In terms of the writing, the songs became very elastic, what may have been brought to the band as a fixed idea, through experimenting, discarding, expanding and mutating evolved into the songs as you hear them now. Every member was key in the development of each song,” closes Kavus. Thus, Kavus (vocals/guitar), Fabio Golfetti (guitar/vocals), Dave Sturt (bass/vocals), Ian East (sax/flute) and Cheb Nettles (drums/vocals) took on the mantle of steering the Teapot further into outer space and the inner ear.

On the album you’ll also notice the voice of Daevid in an early song idea rehearsal, along with Gong alumni Steve Hillage, Didier Malherbe and Graham Clark. Fans of the “Virgin trilogy” won’t be let down!

In the words of bassist Dave Sturt: “You bet it’s a Gong record!”

It depends on your knowledge of Gong history and what constitutes as a Gong record, but if “Rejoice! I’m Dead!” is classified as their 28th album the Gong legacy is the strongest it has been since 1974. Consider the differences between “Angel’s Egg,” “Gazeuse!,” “Floating Anarchy” and “I See You,” the various splinter projects and collectives… what is it that make Gong who they are? Their spontaneity and numerous Phoenix-like rebirths – this is just the latest installment. Nothing more, nothing less. New members and old coalesce, the sound unmistakably Gong.

Even without Daevid Allen Gong will continue ….. And long may it do so.

Fans can have a hint of what’s to come with a clip from the song “Rejoice!” featuring Steve Hillage:

Alternative Rockers Lunden Reign Release Poignant New Single & Video “Red Wagon (Can’t Return To Yesterday)”

Alternative Rockers Lunden Reign Release Poignant New Single & Video
“Red Wagon (Can’t Return To Yesterday)”

Los Angeles – Lunden Reign’s recent CrueFest concert at the world famous Whisky A Go-Go in West Hollywood proved to be yet another powerhouse show. While sharing the stage with heavy hitters L.A. Story, Westfield Massacre and Blacklist Union, Nikki & Laura along with bassist Matt Denis, Julian Tomarin (guitar) and Matt Lucich (drums) brought that unmistakable Lunden Reign vibe to the Whisky and the packed house it entertained.

Their set rocked out with 4 brand new songs set to release on their upcoming album including the title track “Confessions” and “Red Wagon”. Nikki wooed those packed tight up to the stage with “Stardust Daze” and topped it off with the edgy and environmentally charged “Fate of the World”, bringing tears to the eyes of several fans.

Their just released first single and video “Red Wagon (Can’t Return To Yesterday)” is the first of 10 songs from “Confessions”. Both the song and video have been submitted and accepted for Grammy consideration in “BEST VIDEO” and “BEST NEW SINGLE” categories.

Says Nikki, “I’m really thrilled about this next record. “Red Wagon” is a powerhouse, and a couple of the other songs hit me super hard which makes them easy to perform emotionally. I hope that what we did at the Whisky recently will transcend into the studio – performances like that are what I hope to share with our fans. If you close your eyes and listen, if you feel like your with us, then I’ve done my job as the lead singer.”

Watch the video trailer for “Red Wagon”: https://vimeo.com/lundenreign/redwagonpreview ;

Early reviews are already raving that it is clear Lunden Reign is stepping it up yet another notch:

From RAY SHASHO (Classic Rock Hear & Now Radio):
“ ‘Red Wagon (Can’t Return to Yesterday)’ by Lunden Reign is by far the best song and music video to date by one of the finest bands to arrive on the rock music scene since the 90’s. Nikki & Laura Lunden are a seductive badass duo liberating rock to its glory days. Laura’s proficient songwriting and masterful electric licks are driven by Nikki’s amazing vocals and intensity. The girls acquired a similar musical brilliance and tenacity as legends… Heart, Joan Jett, The Bangles, The Go Go’s and Letters to Cleo. And if ‘Red Wagon (Can’t Return to Yesterday)’ is an indication of even better things to come, than their new album to be release at the end of this year entitled ‘Confessions’ should be epic! The song and video are up for Grammy consideration in ‘BEST VIDEO’ and ‘BEST NEW SINGLE’… They’ve got my vote, I truly love this band!”

From CHRIS C. (Bloody Good Music Reviewer):
“Coming off the success of their fantastic debut album, Lunden Reign’s new single, ‘Red Wagon (Can’t Return To Yesterday)’, continues their establishment as one of the best classic rock bands of recent years. With powerful and delicate guitars that are pure rock and roll, and a rousing chorus delivered with Nikki Lunden’s Stevie Nicks meets Sheryl Crow voice, Lunden Reign has lit the fuse that will surely explode in another fantastic album. It’s easy to sound vintage, but hard to sound classic. That’s the rare skill ‘Red Wagon’ is able to achieve.”

From: Warren Kurtz (Contributing Editor Goldmine Music Magazine):
“In 2015, Lunden Reign’s solid ten song debut album American Stranger, featuring ‘Hear Me’, received high praise from fellow Los Angeles female led groups including Terri Nunn from Berlin, Dale Bozzio from Missing Persons and Martha Davis from the Motels, all who achieved national success in the ’80s. Lunden Reign’s new single, ‘Red Wagon (Can’t Return to Yesterday)’, from their upcoming sophomore release ‘Confessions’, invokes a bit of a ’90s blend of powerful Foo Fighters-like guitar work combined with the alternative pop sounds of Letters to Cleo. The song’s producer, and Train’s lead guitarist, Luis Maldonado, also supplies harmonies in addition to doubling the electric guitar impact of Laura Lunden, as fans first heard on American Stranger. Matthew Denis and Matt Lucich provide a solid rhythm section on bass and drums, respectively, and are heard very clearly at the beginning of the bridge on this recording, mastered at Capitol in Hollywood. Lunden Reign’s growing fan base will certainly consider ‘Red Wagon’ to be another winner from this talented new group.”

From: Michael McKenna, (Nor’easter Entertainment Magazine):
Cali’s Lunden Reign has returned with some awesome new material from their upcoming sophomore LP, “Confessions”, the followup to their highly successful debut LP, “American Stranger.” The single opens with high-energy slammin’ guitars and pounding percussion that morphs into the angelic pipes of the ladies who will grab your ass and hold you captive with their melodic, tight harmonies. The chorus is totally infectious and the bridge takes you to another place in a minute and is monstrous. The outro has you thinking more is coming and then slaps you upside the head. Laura and Nikki Lunden give the listener more than they bargain for with their tight vox and Luis Maldonado’s vox and guitar adds that perfect balance. The musicians are totally spot-on from Matthew Denis on bottom to Matt Lucich on skins to the jammin riffs. I like the fact that it is upbeat with a driving beat which makes for a great dance tune at a rock club. This track is a KILLER CUT! I look forward to hearing the remainder of the LP. This single is a MUST LISTEN. On the Nor’easter Storm Scale, I give this a FORCE 4! WELL DONE!

Lunden Reign is composed of two core members: Nikki Lunden (Lead Vocals/Guitar/Composer) and Laura Espinoza-Lunden (Guitar/Composer). Producer Luis Maldonado joins as guitarist on select shows and the duo tours with some of LA’s top musicians including: Matt Denis (bass) & Matt Lucich (drums). Lunden Reign’s music is described as ‘Big Beat Alternative Rock’ or ‘Modern Classic Rock’. Some say it’s the signature album for “ROCK’s REBIRTH”. The band’s debut concept album “American Stranger” was released on Cleopatra Records March 17, 2015 and began receiving world-wide critical acclaim almost immediately. The 10 original songs are scored with layers of haunting melodies, uplifting guitar riffs blended with a sharp edge and a massive beat.

Laura Espinoza-Lunden’s innovative synth guitar riffs along with Nikki Lunden’s voice have been at the foreground for the two front women to define the Lunden Reign sound, enhanced by long time producer & co-writer Luis Maldonado (Train, Lisa Marie Presley). The trio are thrilled to have “The Matt’s”, Denis and Lucich, joining them for the sophomore album along with master mix-engineer Devin Hoffman. “Confessions” is tuning up to be a phenomenal release, touching on a bit more personal subjects and addressing some of the more pressing matters of the world. The band is currently in writing and recording sessions finishing up the last few songs and hope to have a release announcement soon.

Their first album “AMERICAN STRANGER” received critical acclaim and made multiple music magazine’s “TOP 10-BEST OF” Lists for 2015. You can hear songs and watch their videos at LundenReign.com.

Fusion Legends BRAND X Reunion Tour Selling Out Shows in Advance!

NYC – Legendary Jazz-Rock-Fusion band BRAND X has reunited and the response has been overwhelming. The initial tour runs October 19th through October 30th, and numerous shows are already Sold Out well in advance.

BRAND X are recognized as true musical pioneers who helped create an entire musical genre and influenced a broad spectrum of musicians and bands. From numerous fusion bands around the world, to even Phish and Dream Theater, their influence to the their peers and the next generation of musicians has been monumental. They are unrivaled in their creativity, originality and approach. The seeds were sown around 1975 when future members of Brand X were collaborating with Brian Eno on his well known “Another Green World” album. Robert Fripp and Phil Collins also played on it, and it got many people thinking. Their contemporaries include bands such as Weather Report, Headhunters, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Jaco Pastorious and Chick Corea, all crafting a unique blend of Jazz, Rock, and Ethic influences now widely known by fans worldwide simply as “Fusion”.

HAVE TICKET, WILL TRAVEL: “Something unexpected has been happening…”, the band’s management explained. “People are coming out of the woodwork to come to these first shows. First we heard of a group driving from Texas all the way up to Chicago for a show. Then it’s a group from Denver. A few coming from Toronto, and now we’ve got confirmation of fans flying in from London and even Berlin!”

HUFFINGTON POST FEATURE: “You Tried The Rest, Now Rediscover Band X” by Roger Weisman (08/07/2016) article struck a chord with many when he stated: “Brand X have too much of a background in Rock to be whole-heartedly accepted by the Jazz Community… but similar to some of Jeff Beck’s fusion work, they’ve created masterpieces.”

THE BAND:

* John Goodsall (Guitar): Original BRAND X guitarist says, “It’s a better version now. We’re all a lot more experienced – a lot more skilled… And that goes for every one of us.”

* Percy Jones (Bass): Original BRAND X bassist says, “This music takes us back to a certain space – which was really cool. I wasn’t sure I’d ever feel that feeling again – and yet here it is!”

* Kenwood Dennard (Drums): BRAND X drummer who’s also played with Sting and Jaco Pastorious says, “When we used to play this music, it felt eternal. We used to get into a zone where it felt so deep. Now that’s exactly how it felt again.”

* Chris Clark (Keyboards): Formerly of John Entwistle Band (The Who), and Richie Cannata’s Band (Billy Joel).

* Scott Weinberger (Percussionist): Sessions with Adrian Belew, and live with The Security Project (Jerry Marotta, formerly of Peter Gabriel and Trey Gunn formerly of King Crimson)

The reunited BRAND X will be performing material from their first three albums on these initial tours in October 2016.

“Unorthodox Behaviour” was a superb debut album. Members Percy Jones, Phil Collins, Morris Pert, John Goodsall and Robin Lumley had been doing sessions for Brian Eno, and banded together for this initial release.

“Moroccan Roll”: Surprises everyone by hitting #37 in the UK charts. Experimenting with some Eastern tonalities, including a shimmering Sitar played by Goodsall on “Sun In The Night”, BRAND X create an uncanny masterpiece – a fusion album with melodies. Percussionist Morris Pert now joins the band, and manages to bang on everything including a few kitchen sinks. Robin Lumley’s “Disco Suicide” is as catchy as it is clever. Percy Jones galloping “Malaga Virgen” races with furious Bass and Drums – and remains a show-stopper live.

“Livestock”: A true live album in every sense of the word. Recorded at gigs at Hammersmith Odeon and Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, it shows that band at their most mature with finesse and macho chops rarely heard live. Robin Lumley has stated that the entire Livestock album was mixed in one day with absolutely no overdubs.

Rare Tribute To Nico “Songs They Never Play On The Radio” Reissued!

London, UK – Much to the excitement of Nico and Velvet Underground fans worldwide, James Young’s “Songs They Never Play On The Radio” has been reissued on Gonzo Multimedia!

James Edward Young is a British musician and writer. Young grew up in Oldham, Lancashire and began learning piano at the age of 7. He studied Art History briefly at the University of East Anglia before moving to Oxford to study at the Polytechnic and in 1982 was accepted as an MPhil student at Oxford University. This period coincided with his meeting Nico (Velvet Underground) and Young took the decision to work with her instead of continuing with academic life. Young toured and recorded as keyboard player and arranger with the group Faction until Nico’s death in 1988. They toured the world together and at one stage shared a flat in Brixton, London. Since then Young has written books, recorded solo albums, created BBC radio features, written on Outsider Art and curated exhibitions.

Young’s memoir of his years travelling with Nico Songs they Never Play on the Radio, was published to international critical acclaim in 1993, winning the In The City award for music book of the year. Described by Greil Marcus in Esquire as “A coolly literary masterpiece about the geography of nowhere”, the book was later serialized in 1996 for BBC Radio 4. In 1994 Young was invited by Alan McGee, founder of Creation Records, to record a musical representation of his memoir of the Nico years.

The album “Songs They Never Play On The Radio” followed a year later in 1994. Alan McGee of Creation Records had read the book and asked Young if he’d be interested in making a record that evoked it. Highlights from that album are contained here as well as later songs and instrumental pieces relating to Young’s life on the road with Nico.

The album covers every aspect of that time from first meeting to burying Nico in Berlin. It includes samples of Nico talking as well as Young’s distinctive piano and vocal. The pieces vary in tone from the lyrical to the ironic and from the playful to the dark.

This is not just a collection of songs … it is a life.

Keyboard Icon Rick Wakeman and Legendary Astronaut Chris Hadfield Pay Tribute To Stephen Hawking and David Bowie At Starmus Festival 2016

London, UK – In a rare meeting of the minds, keyboard icon Rick Wakeman and legendary astronaut paid tribute to Stephen Hawking at the Starmus Festival in Tenerife, Spain on July 1, 2016! The two legends performed a moving tribute David Bowie with their rendition of his classic song “Space Oddity”.

Watch the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LFUoV_8OoM&feature=youtu.be

The Starmus Festival was born with the aim of making the most universal science and art accessible to the public. Traditionally the perfect symbiosis between astronomy, art and music, STARMUS 2016 brought together not only the brightest minds from these areas but many others besides, as we debate the future of humanity with scientists, business people at the cutting edge, and celebrities of all kinds.

Chris Austin Hadfield is a retired Canadian astronaut who was the first Canadian to walk in space. An engineer and former Royal Canadian Air Force fighter pilot, Hadfield has flown two space shuttle missions and served as commander of the International Space Station.

Commander Hadfield originally performed a cover Bowie’s “Space Oddity” on board the International Space Station in 2013. He posted the video on the internet which immediately became a global sensation, being the first ever music video performed in space. Although he had made the video for a number of reasons, Hadfield felt that, “Maybe most importantly, it was a chance to let people see where we truly are in space exploration”. David Bowie himself responded saying that the cover of his 1969 song was “possibly the most poignant version of the song ever created”. The guitar Hadfield used to perform the song is still on the space station where it will remain forever!

Rick Wakeman, who played mellotron on the original version of Bowie’s “Space Oddity” says, “It’s a real honour to have played on probably the two most iconic versions of ‘Space Oddity’, the brilliant original with David of course and now this very special version with Chris that was born 300 miles from planet earth!”

While the Starmus Festival 2016 was paying tribute to Hawking, the promoters also decided to pay tribute to David Bowie! Why? Because Bowie and Hawking share the same birthday – January 8th. Also, Bowie was very much inspired by Space, Astronomy etc… He was invited to Starmus but the invitation arrived the same day he passed…

Sixties Music Legends The Box Tops To Celebrate Their 50th Anniversary!

Memphis, TN – The Summer of 2017 marks the legendary Memphis blue-eyed-soul group THE BOX TOPS’ 50th anniversary of the release of their worldwide #1 smash hit debut single “The Letter.” To celebrate, they anticipate extensive touring and perhaps a new album that could include obscure never-issued tracks from their 60s heydays, with Alex Chilton. French Music Ensemble GRIT Release New EP “Live at Kramus Deluxe Studio”

French Music Ensemble GRIT Release New EP “Live at Kramus Deluxe Studio”

One EP – three tracks, recorded live in a studio, in lieu of an introduction.

13 minutes of raw energy meant to capture the essence of human interaction, in the instant, without a safety net. The Parisian four-piece band GRIT has been gaining traction in the French capital over the recent months, and has elected social networks as their home turf to campaign and deliver an ambitious and brutally energetic debut. Their recent shows have inspired their audiences to exert themselves beyond the usual limits, and to experience the kind of release you feel working the punching bag, or naked, with the right person (not that the two have anything in common – let’s be clear, let’s keep it clean).

GRIT, you say? What exactly are we talking about here? Just like the name suggests it, we’re talking about one’s ability to pursue talent. It is the fine blend of perseverance, personal investment, passion and hard work. GRIT don’t tire out, don’t wear or tear. They keep at it, they create, they dig deeper, and they strive for evolution, with high goals and composed expectations.

They get down to business and do the work. The house that GRIT has built is founded on tenacity as well as technique. They’ll kick doors open if resistance is met, bow with the subdued charm that characterizes them all, and remind you there’s no time, nor the will, to carry around any dead weight. The unit’s guiding principle: “onwards and upwards!”

Countless hours of studio rehearsals and live experiences have allowed them to reach the sought-after sound equilibrium: the meaty bass tones, the determined syncopated drumbeats, the volatile vocal hooks, and the two guitars’ layered sensual growls. And then, there’s the lyrics, meant to achieve the same balance, with themes broad enough to be inviting and besetting all at once. These lyrics, written like Polaroid pictures, freeze particular moments in time; a certain stage in life, A minute of doubt, the memory of a ambiguous sensation. Here, they spill the venom of anger, there, the misery of sentiments, and everywhere, the infectious need for more, right here, right now.

In addition to three very well crafted teasers, each with their own little plot and studio footage, GRIT takes it up a notch with a debut release that offers a double take on the songs. Each track has its own video, each with its own rhythm, edit, and energy, and all of it is… Live. The footage is as powerful and polished as the tracks are, and will leave you wishing you’d been in that studio, bouncing off the walls, and wondering how the band and crew managed to even contain such energy in such a confined space…

They say that playing live can either make or break a band. When it comes to GRIT, it’s a revelation, an area of controlled freedom, where unique and organic sounds meet snappy sarcastic fits of rage. Making rock music that excites the atoms without losing their focus, drive and subtlety, is bound to get GRIT some serious and lasting attention.
