World Music Artist Marcus Corbett Releases Highly Anticipated Debut Album Strung Deep

London, UK – Much to the excitement of music enthusiasts worldwide, Folk-World music artist Marcus Corbett has released his highly anticipated debut album Strung Deep. Based between Marlborough and Oxford in the UK and Pune in India, and having gigged the length and breadth of the UK and on the western coast of India, Marcus has quietly been gaining an esteemed reputation for his esoteric, unique blend of Indian classical music and British folk. Says Marcus, “I have studied Indian Classical Music because it is (for me) an undeniably beautiful and compelling musical genre. In my composition, I do not try to play it directly as my music is only mine.”

Marcus started to travel to India in the mid ‘70s and has since spent the following decades continuing to cultivate an ongoing relationship with Tabla and Indian Classical Music. As Corbett puts it – “I traveled first to India as a wide eyed 18 year old and I heard a Tabla solo by the river Ganga. All I can say is my world changed; but it was the vocal that really hooked me – the voice in the music found an echo in me.”

On the subject of his musical influences, aside from his times in India, Marcus states, “I’ve been affected by John Martyn, Nick Drake, Roy Harper – anybody that makes the guitar sing or speak. John McLaughlin with the ‘Mahavishnu Orchestra’ and early ‘Shakti’ was a revelation as has been Jerry Garcia’s soulful musicality.”

Over the last decade Corbett has been on yearly travels to Pune and Gadag in western India to work with renowned Tabla players Nitin Gaikwad and Sharanappa Gutteragi. The most recent in a series of recordings to come out of these sessions is Strung Deep.

Mostly recorded with engineer Abhijit Saraf of Musical Stars Studios in Pune, Strung Deep perfectly encapsulates the beauty, grace and dexterity of Corbett’s extraordinary talent and unique vision to fuse UK and European folk musics with India classical tradition. Aided and abetted by the majestic Bansuri (Indian flute) playing of Milind Date and exquisite violin talents of Sanjay Upadhye, Strung Deep is a joyous meeting of musical worlds.

Canadian powerhouse drummer Corky Laing is essentially associated with rock and roll folklore and as one of the elite drummers in the world. Laing is a longtime member for hard rock/heavy metal giant’s Mountain and the blues-rock power trio of West, Bruce & Laing. But Laing’s musical collaborations are seemingly endless. A list that includes alliances with John Lennon, Jack Bruce, Meat Loaf, Noel Redding, Mahogany Rush, Ten Years After, Ian Hunter, Mick Ronson, Bo Diddley and Gov’t Mule …to name a few. Laing is also a producer and composer.

Corky Laing has recently added a brand new chapter to his illustrious musical career. Los Angeles, CA – After taking the drumming world by storm,with his book “The Footiments”, Rick ‘BooM’ Steel has once again amazed the drumming community. With his latest video, “Bumble Blast:16th note Double Pedal Double Strokes at 200 beats per minute”, BooM shows why he’s known as the “Double Pedal Demon”. He challenges Drummers everywhere, “Are YOU in the 200 Club?”

At his YouTube page (www.youtube.com/thefootiments), BooM says,”…Doubles, Flams, Ruffs, and Paradiddles: NOT just for the hands!” With Bumble Blast, he exemplifies how you can use the materials from his book. “Some Classical Music-when played as Metal-is heavy”, says BooM. “When performing ‘Flight of the Bumble Bee’, many orchestras invite a guest soloist to show off their chops. So, I used crunchy guitar, heavy bass, keyboard, and cranked the tempo to 200 beats per minute”.

BooM, known as “…one of the Best Drummers in Los Angeles…”, is the consummate Drummer, Composer, Clinician, and Educator. “At one time, I was not in the 200 Club, and trust me, I tried!”, BooM laughs. “It was the morning of Christmas Eve. The studio was empty. I had no family local, so I decided to try playing (traditional R/L/R/L) 16th notes on my Double Bass kit at 200 b.p.m.’s. I worked and worked. Then, at 180 b.p.m.’s it happened: ouch! I felt something tear in my left leg. I got up and struggled to a chair. After fifteen minutes, I arose and the pain was worse! I spent the next three days with my left leg elevated, unable to move”. It was here, BooM gave up on the 200 Club…

But, after some great advice from the late Ron Spagnardi, BooM decided to begin writing his book, “The Footiments” (www.thefootiments.com). He explains, “I was my ‘own’ student. I wrote the book so I could achieve the 200 Club!” For those in the know, his Double Pedal Double Strokes are played ‘heel-toe’. BooM remembers the first time he used this technique with a band. “After Gregg Bissonette (David Lee Roth, Joe Satriani) recorded the drum tracks for the band “Bleed”, he wasn’t available for the live shows”. Vocalist Robin McAuley (MSG,Survivor) and Bjorn Englen (Quiet Riot,Yngwie Malmsteen), after watching BooM play, offered him the gig. “I remember putting in some 16th and 32nd note double strokes”, says BooM. When recording the last ‘Thirty Round Clip’ CD (www.thirtyroundclip.com), he applied Double Pedal 16th note triplets to the song, “god Media”. “At first, our producer Darian Rundall (Pennywise, Suicidal Tendencies) was a skeptic. He didn’t think I could dig out the triplets at 150 b.p.m.’s”. Using the Double Stroke Footiment, BooM was successful….producer happy.

Metal…Double Pedal…Shredding…these are the words the Double Pedal Demon lives by. First, in 2012, drummers around the world were introduced to 26 Footiments. Now, with this amazing version of ‘Flight of the Bumble Bee’–Bumble Blast, BooM has pushed the envelope again. Herald de Paris Interview with Steve Hunter

HOLLYWOOD (Herald de Paris) — Stephen John Hunter, stage name Steve “The Deacon” Hunter, is an American guitarist best known for his collaborations with Lou Reed and Alice Cooper. He first played with Mitch Ryder’s Detroit, beginning a long association with record producer Bob Ezrin. Hunter suffers from pigmentary glaucoma, which has rendered him legally blind.
In the 1970′s, he appeared on five Alice Cooper albums, all of which were produced by Ezrin. His first recording with Alice Cooper was in 1973 as a session musician on the second, last, and most successful album recorded by the Alice Cooper group, Billion Dollar Babies. When Alice Cooper became a solo artist, Hunter followed and appeared on the 1975 groundbreaking album and live show Welcome to My Nightmare alongside guitarist Dick Wagner. Hunter and Wagner had already formed a formidable guitar team, as can be heard on the Lou Reed live album Rock ‘n’ Roll Animal and further demonstrated on the film Welcome To My Nightmare. Nightmare was released on home video in 1976 and featured the celebrated guitar battle between Hunter and Wagner that formed part of the Alice Cooper 1975 live show. He and Wagner also played on Peter Gabriel’s self-titled first solo album, which was likewise produced by Ezrin, in 1977. His first solo album, 1977′s critically acclaimed Swept Away, was also produced by Ezrin.

Dutch Singer-Songwriter Anneke van Giersbergen To Release Fifth Studio Album In The US October 15, 2013

Los Angeles, CA – This October 15th, Dutch singer-songwriter Anneke van Giersbergen will release her fifth studio album in the US. The first single from the as-yet-untitled LP is set to land on August 23, accompanied by a music video, and a European tour will commence in mid-October. On this follow-up to 2012’s Everything is Changing, Anneke collaborated with Dutch songwriter and producer Arno Krabman, enlisting the help of her live band to lay down the new tracks. In a time when bands are creating entire albums by transferring files online, Anneke explains that she was keen to do things the old-fashioned way: “I really wanted to record an album together with a group of musicians in a studio.” Having toured extensively with the same tight-knit group of musicians, the result is an organic sound that perfectly captures our chemistry as a band.

Having proven her credentials and immense vocal talent for 13 years as front woman of The Gathering, in 2007 Anneke felt it was time to begin her own solo career. Along with her new band Agua de Annique the charismatic singer quickly established herself as a solo artist, releasing several albums to critical and popular acclaim.

Anneke also found time to collaborate with some of her long-time friends and musical peers, lending her honey-sweet, yet powerful voice to the likes of Anathema (Falling Deeper), the eccentric Devin Townsend (Addicted!, Epicloud) and fellow Dutchmen Within Temptation (Black Symphony). 2012’s Everything is Changing was something of a milestone in Anneke’s solo career. The album, which was the first to be released under her own name without the Agua de Annique moniker, got her nominated for two Edison awards – Holland’s most prestigious music prize – in the categories ‘Best Female Artist’ and ‘Best Album’. Not only was it a success in her home country, Everything is Changing took Anneke all over the world as she toured over 25 different countries including the UK, Germany, France and throughout Latin America.

The new album shows Anneke to be on top form and more multifaceted than ever, with songs ranging from her signature intimate ballads to euphoric stadium rock anthems – and as always, her ethereally beautiful voice is the jewel in the center.

Los Angeles, CA – Founding member of pioneering space-rock band Hawkwind returns to his intergalactic roots with his soon-to-be-released mind-blowing new CD titled ‘Space Gypsy’! Featuring all new material, ‘Space Gypsy’ boasts guest appearances by fellow Hawkwind alumnus violinist Simon House, and Gong guitar legend Steve Hillage, along with Nicky Garratt of the UK Subs, Jurgen Engler of German industrial band Die Krupps, and Jeff Piccinini of ’70s punk icons Chelsea. Making the CD release even more exciting, Nik Turner has released a dark, hypnotic new video called “Time Crypt featuring Simon House”. This is the second video Nik has released in support of ‘Space Gypsy’, the first being “Fallen Angel STS-51-L”; from the album’s first single about the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster. Nik Turner’s Space Ritual Tour runs in the US from October 9th through November 17th in support of the new CD.

Nik Turner was a founding member of Hawkwind during what has been considered their most commercially successful and critically acclaimed period for the band from 1970 to 1976. He wrote/co-wrote some of the group’s most popular songs such as “Brainstorm” and “Master Of The Universe”. Hawkwind’s 4th and possibly most popular album ‘The Space Ritual Alive in Liverpool and London’ was recorded in 1972 (released in May 1973). Reaching #9 in the UK album charts and #179 in the Billboard Top 200, the double-record was recorded during the tour to promote the band’s ‘Doremi Fasol Latido’ (third) release. The Space Ritual show attempted to create a full audio-visual experience. The performances featured dancers, lightshow by Liquid Len and poetry recitations by Robert Calvert. Nik Turner recently brought his version of the historic show to the US shores, recreating the magic once again!

Says Nik Turner, “This single ‘Fallen Angel STS-51-L’ is the epitome of epiphanic, orgasmic, cathartic embodiment of my space dreams, become one man’s reality, exploding into space. Expect lots more on this awesome album”.

London, UK – Much to the excitement of Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band fans around the world, the critically acclaimed biography ‘Lunar Notes’, by original Magic Band guitarist Zoot Horn Rollo (Bill Harkleroad) is now available again from Gonzo MultiMedia UK after being out of print for over a decade.

Bill Harkleroad joined Captain Beefheart’s Magic Band at a time when they were changing from a straight ahead blues band into something completely different. Through the vision of Don Van Vliet (Captain Beefheart) they created a new form of music, which many at the time considered atonal and difficult, yet over the years has continued to exert a powerful influence!

Beefheart re-christianed Harkleroad as Zoot Horn Rollo, and they embarked on recording one of the classic albums of all time, ‘Trout Mask Replica’; produced by legendary Frank Zappa, the album remains an unparalleled work of musical inventiveness. Further LPs like ‘Lick My Decals Off Baby’, ‘Spotlight Kid’ and ‘Clear Spot’ highlighted what a truly innovative band they were, and what an outstanding original guitarist Bill Harkleroad had become!

Since Captain Beefheart’s retirement from the music industry, and subsequent passing, many outside commentators have tried to put their finger on what was so special about the Magic Band. Now, with the reprinting of ‘Lunar Notes’, we get the insiders story. With the help of co-author Billy James, Harkleroad divulges the often uncomfortable and difficult workings of the band, giving rare insight into the way the music was created. At last, we find out what it was like to play, record and live with an eccentric genius as Captain Beefheart!

San Rafael, CA, – Tarpan Records is pleased to announce the national release of Thunder 2013, a new full length album by Narada Michael Walden on September 17th 2013. This release features new songs that span Rock, Fusion, Funk and even a ballad or two. This is the first worldwide official release by Narada Michael Walden on his new imprint Tarpan Records.

Narada Michael Walden has produced many household names including: Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Regina Belle, Steve Winwood, Ray Charles, Wynonna Judd, Whitney Houston, George Michael, Mariah Carey, Barbara Streisand, Lionel Ritchie, Elton John, Sting, Carlos Santana, Shanice Wilson, Tevin Campbell, Lisa Fischer, Stevie Wonder, Tom Jones, Jeff Beck and The Temptations. He was awarded Grammys for Producer of the Year in 1988, Album of the Year for the movie soundtrack The Bodyguard in 1993 and the R&B Song of the Year in 1985 for Aretha Franklin’s Freeway of Love. Billboard Magazine also named him one of the “Top Ten Producers with the Most Number One Hits”.

As impressive a production and songwriting resume as Narada Michael Walden has assembled over the past thirty years, he has earned equal acclaim as a recording and performing artist in his own right. Beginning as a drummer with the pioneering Mahavishnu Orchestra (replacing Billy Cobham at 19 years old), Narada also toured with Jeff Beck, Tommy Bolin, and Weather Report. With eleven acclaimed solo albums of his own which produced Dance Hits such as, I Shoulda Loved Ya, Divine Emotions, I Don’t Want Nobody Else to Dance With You, along the way, he has achieved greatness in a wide range of sonic arenas. Walden’s music includes groundbreaking soundtrack work on such blockbuster films as The Bodyguard, Free Willy, Beverly Hills Cops II, 9 ½ Weeks and Stuart Little to the EMMY-winning “One Moment In Time,” the theme to the 1988 Olympic Games.

Thunder 2013 is a strong new direction from Narada Michael Walden, inspired by his recent successful two-year tour with the Jeff Beck Band. Narada returned home to finish this album and put together his band to tour on his own. In early February 2012, Narada Michael Walden returned from a well received 10 day stint of shows at the Blue Note in Tokyo and Nagoya, Japan to perform at the White House in an all-star band for President Obama’s “Red, White and Blues” Concert with legends B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Mick Jagger, Trombone Shorty, Booker T Jones and more. Narada enlisted some amazing musicians and performers for his band on Thunder 2013 including: Nikita Germaine (Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, James Taylor, and Patty Austin) on Vocals, Frank Martin (Lady Gaga, Mary J. Blige, Madonna, Jennifer Hudson, John McLaughlin, Elton John and Bruce Springsteen) on Keyboards, Angeline Saris (Gretchen Menn, Zepperella) on Bass and Vocals, Matthew Charles Heulitt (Zigaboo Modaliste, Salvador Santana, Megan Slankard, Eion Harrington) on Guitars.

His new label, Tarpan Records is a home for many great established artists and some amazing up-and-coming artists as well. Tarpan Records specializes in artist development, full service project management, promotion, and distribution. Initially focused on Narada Michael Walden’s releases, the plan is to apply this business model to up and coming and established recording artists in the years to come.

Tarpan Records will release Narada Michael Walden’s new album Thunder 2013 nationally in late September of 2013 with help from distribution and marketing powerhouse Independent Distribution Collective. This new album is a Rock masterpiece, with many flavors of Narada’s vast history mixed in.
