RollingStone.com To Premiere A New Wanda Jackson Recording From The Forthcoming Jack White Tribute Album

Los Angeles, CA – The Queen of Rockabilly, music legend Wanda Jackson, has recorded a brand new cover version of The White Stripes’ “In The Cold, Cold Night,” which will be premiered as a full audio stream on RollingStone.com November 12th. The slow burner penned by Jack White for The Stripes’ breakout album Elephant is the first single from the brand new tribute album Rockin’ Legends Pay Tribute To Jack White to be released on both CD and vinyl as well as digital November 19th by Cleopatra Records. The album is a one of a kind tribute that features several of White’s musical predecessors, giants of rockabilly, early rock and classic punk on whose shoulders White has stood, including Big Jay McNeely, Sonny Burgess, Gary U.S. Bonds, Bobby Vee, Walter Lure of Johnny Thunders’ The Heartbreakers, Knox of UK punk legends The Vibrators and many more!

Listen to the stream here:

Not all of these names may be familiar to fans of Jack White, but most will know of his deep admiration for the pioneering performer Wanda Jackson who broke new ground in the 1950s as the first popular female rockabilly artist. In 2009, White produced Wanda’s critically acclaimed solo album The Party Ain’t Over, which landed Jackson on the Billboard Top 200 album charts for the very first time in her long career. On Rockin’ Legends, Wanda shows the admiration is mutual with her slightly countrified, ultra sultry take on “In The Cold, Cold Night,” which also features instrumentation and production by Shooter Jennings, son of famed country outlaw Waylon Jennings.

And hers is not the only inventive spin on White’s modern alternative classics. Big Jay McNeely brings a swingin’ vocal to “I’m Shakin’” as he trades sax solos with Hawkwind wild man Nik Turner. Speaking of wild men, the lucha libre masked guitar slingin’ trio Los Straightjackets throw down a raucous instrumental version of “Icky Thump” while the aforementioned punk rockers, Knox and Walter Lure, team up with drum hero W.S. “Fluke” Holland, the skinsman for both Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash, on “Seven Nation Army.” Exploring the outer reaches of Jack White’s diverse career, Sonny Burgess brings in his Legendary Pacers on a cover of The Raconteur’s “Steady As She Goes” and Tex-Mex singer Rosie Flores crashes the boys club with a stellar cover of the titular track from White’s recent solo album Blunderbuss.

From rockabilly to punk, neo surf to traditional country, no other tribute album has spanned so much musical diversity and history, a testament to the vast range of influences that inspired Jack White’s incredible career.

1. In The Cold, Cold Night – Wanda Jackson feat. Shooter Jennings
2. I’m Shakin’ – Big Jay McNeely & Nik Turner
3. Salute Your Solution – Gary U.S. Bonds
4. Steady As She Goes – Sonny Burgess & The Legendary Pacers
5. Trash Tongue Talker – Joe Clay & Cranston Clements

Final Album By UK Music Legend, Activist, Anarchist and Writer, Mick Farren Now Available!

London, UK – Much to the excitement of fans and music press around the world, the final album by UK music legend, activist, anarchist, writer and street politician, Mick Farren, has been released. Mick Farren and Andy Colquhoun ‘The Woman In The Black Vinyl Dress’ is now available on CD from GONZO Multimedia UK. Mick Farren was an English journalist, author and singer associated with the UK underground. Farren was best known as the singer with the proto-punk group The Deviants between 1967 and 1969. The band released three critically acclaimed albums “Ptoofff!”, “Disposable” and “The Deviants 3”, before Farren left for a solo career. In 1970 he released his first solo album ‘Mona – The Carnivorous Circus’ which featured Steve Peregrin Took, John Gustafson and Paul Buckmaster, before leaving the music business to concentrate in his writing.

During the mid-70s Mick briefly returned to music, releasing the single “Play With Fire” featuring Marky (soon-to-be Ramone) Bell, Jon Tiven and Doug Snyder. He also released the EP ‘Screwed Up’, the album ‘Vampires Stole My Lunch Money’ and the single “Broken Statue”. The album featured fellow NME journalist Chrissie Hynde (The Pretenders) and Dr. Feelgood guitarist Wilko Johnson. After that, Farren did sporadic musical work, collaborating with Wayne Kramer of the MC5 on two albums (‘Who Shot The Dutch’ & ‘Death Tongue’), Jack Lancaster of Bloodwyn Pig on an album (‘The Deathray Tapes’) and Andy Colquhoun on The Deviants albums ‘Eating Jello With A Heated Fork’ and ‘Dr. Crow’. He also wrote lyrics for various musician friends over the years. He co-wrote “Lost Johnny” with Lemmy for Hawkwind, and “Keep Us On The Road” and “Damage Case” for Motorhead. He co-wrote “When’s The Fun Begin?” with Larry Wallis for the Pink Fairies, along with several songs on Wallis’s solo album ‘Death In The Guitafternoon’. Mick also provided lyrics for the Wayne Kramer single “Get Some” in the mid-1970s and continued to collaborate with him in the 1990’s.

As a writer, in the early 1970’s Mick contributed to the UK Underground press. He later wrote for the mainstream publication NME. Farren also penned 23 novels, which included 11 works of non-fiction, several biographical (including 4 books on Elvis Presley), autobiographical and culture books, as well a lot of poetry. From 2003 to 2008 he was a columnist for the Los Angeles newspaper CityBeat. In 2010 Mick returned to the UK and continued to write. As a longtime asthmatic, Farren eventually developed emphysema, and against medical advice Farren continued to perform on occasion with The Deviants, (with the use of an oxygen tank between songs at times).

“I’m a lousy singer,” he once told the LA Weekly, “but an excellent rock star.”Mick Farren lived his music to the very end… He died at the age of 69 on July 27, 2013, after collapsing on stage while performing with the Deviants at The Borderline club in Soho. A tribute concert to Mick Farren will be held on November 14, 2013 at The Flyover in London. Says Jon Downes of The Gonzo Daily blog, “Following Mick’s funeral last month, it was decided to hold a much bigger occasion where friends and colleagues could gather together, share stories, laugh and reflect on the life of a friend who left us too soon. At its heart, this event will be an opportunity to finish the set Mick and The Deviants started that fateful night at The Borderline. There will be live music from the Deviants, Slim Tim Rundall, and guests. I had great love and respect for him, and I hope in the weeks, months and years to come, as part of Gonzo Multimedia we shall help bring his invaluable work and inspirational legacy to new generations.”

Mick’s final album, with fellow Deviants member and musical accomplice Andy Colquhoun, ‘The Woman In The Black Vinyl Dress’ was recorded last year and serves as a fitting swansong for the legendary artist. Says Andy, “The initial vocal tracks were laid down by Mick in February 2012 at Brighton Electric, to click tracks at various tempos. Jaki Miles-Windmill added backing vocals, and some percussion at this session. I took the vocal tracks to my studio, Cybermusik, and overdubbed guitars, bass, drums, keyboards and more backing vocals, and also put the poetry in a song structure. The tracks ‘Pick Up The Scissors’ and ‘Tomorrow Never Knows’ had vocals recorded at Mick’s flat and at Cybermusik. Jaki also added percussion and vocals at Cybermusik.” Andy put the the CD together over a six month period, and mixed the album in August 2012. Andy also produced/played/composed on ‘Vampires Stole My Lunch Money’. ‘The Deviants Have Left The Planet’, ‘The Death Ray Tapes’, ‘Barbarian Princess’ and ‘Fragments Of Broken Probes’.

On a final note, Mick’s very last recording was the single for Shagrat records titled “Fury Of The Mob “ backed with “A Better Day Coming”, which was released in July 2013.

Glam Rock Icon Michael Des Barres Releases New Live Album Hot ‘n Sticky

Proof That Rock and Roll is Alive and Well

Los Angeles, CA – Riding the wave of critical acclaim from critics and peers such as Stevie Van Zandt for his album Carnaby Street, Michael Des Barres is releasing a live album recently recorded at the legendary Viper Room in Hollywood. Hot ‘n Sticky is just as the title describes, delivering the songs from Carnaby Street and other personal favorites the way this music is meant to be enjoyed. It’s down-n-dirty, straight-up rock ‘n roll played by a great band, and Michael Des Barres is here to bring it back with Hot ‘n Sticky.

“I had no plans to record a live album that night. I record everything so I have something to dance to, but this happened to be one of those hot and sticky nights when the music plays itself, and we became like a primal, blusey, electric machine. Of course it helps that we’ve played every club, dive bar and juke joint that would have us. That’s where rock ‘n roll lives — no video screens, no lasers, dancers or lip synching, just raw incantations from the Olympian heights of rock ‘n roll heaven.”
– Michael Des Barres

Hot ‘n Sticky will be officially released by MDBimmedia on November 5, 2013 and will be available in both digital and physical formats via all major outlets including iTunes, Amazon, CDbaby and directly from the artist at michaeldesbarres.bandcamp.com. To preview Hot ‘n Sticky in its entirety, go to https://soundcloud.com/michael-des-barres/sets/hot-n-sticky.

“Rock ain’t near dead, and if you need any convincing on this point listen no further than Michael Des Barres’ fiery new live set,
Hot ‘n Sticky. This disc will cure what ails you with ample doses of rhythm, blues, and a pure love of rock ‘n’ roll. The set moves, grooves, and shakes you down with a top-flight band of LA aces and a frontman who melts all those before him.

Rock’s royalty has made it through the darkness that eclipsed the breed and their art throughout the ’80s and ’90s. The real rockers such as Ian Hunter, Glenn Hughes, and Michael Des Barres have all saved up and not spent it all. They’re alive, well and proving on a regular basis that rock may not be on the radio, but it’s doing just fine as an art form.” – Tony Conley, Rock Guitar Daily

Michael Des Barres has been on the rock n’ roll scene for more than four decades. A European Marquis, Michael was raised in England and now lives in Los Angeles. His enduring love of Delta blues and the rock and soul of the mid-60s beat boom, carries forth from his days as the front man for such seminal 1970s bands as Silverhead and Detective, a band personally signed by Jimmy Page to Led Zeppelin’s Swan Song records in 1975.

Michael Des Barres was also the touring singer for the Duran Duran spin-off group, The Power Station, performing at Live Aid with one of the most iconic live acts of the mid-1980s. From 1982 to 1984, Michael was a member of Chequered Past, which included Steve Jones from the Sex Pistols, and Clem Burke and Nigel Harrison of Blondie. In 1983, Michael penned the song “Obsession”, which later became a number one hit in 27 countries for LA new wave group Animotion; the track has been featured in numerous movies throughout the years. His album Carnaby Street garnered a first-round Grammy nomination and two SiriusXM “Songs of the Week” last year.

Today, Michael Des Barres sets the bar for a new breed of healthy rock stars, pushing boundaries as multi-media force of nature. In addition to two weekly syndicated radio shows, Roots & Branches and The Michael Des Barres Show, he has appeared in feature films and countless hit television shows such as NCIS, Nip/Tuck, The Finder, and as the infamous assassin Murdoc on MacGyver. Michael has also been featured in music videos for Maroon 5 and Rihanna and co-stars with Robert Carlyle in the just-released film California Solo. Recently, Michael narrated the one-night only performance of Frank Zappa’s legendary 200 Motels with the LA Philharmonic conducted by Esa Pekka Salonen… and now it’s back on the road, coming to a dive bar or stadium near you!

Swedish Space/Psych Rockers The Movements Make Their U.S. Debut With
The New Album Like Elephants 1

Los Angeles, CA – From the cultural heart of Scandinavia – Gothenburg, Sweden -comes a new psych rock band with one foot in the garage and the other in galaxies beyond! The five-piece will see their new album, Like Elephants 1, released in the U.S. for the first time November 5 by Cleopatra Records.

Recorded in their hometown and produced by the band and Michael Nilsson, Like Elephants 1 swirls with psychedelic grooves, catchy rock riffs and gorgeous folk melodies like the love child of ‘60s freaks The Seeds and space rock legends Hawkwind! The lead off single “The Death Of John Hall D.Y.” shimmers with a killer guitar riff, organ blasts and vocal harmonies straight out of ‘60s Woodstock. The group released a hypnotic video to accompany the single, which can be viewed here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAI2W-PuYVY

For their second single, the propulsive rocker “Two Tongues,” the band tapped Swedish director René U Valdes, who has created videos for some of that country’s biggest rock exports including metal band Hardcore Superstar and Nicke Borge of Backyard Babies. Featuring The Movements’ frontman David Henriksson in full glam peacock makeup, the video shows the band giving an electrifying performance that showcases some of the vintage sounds mixed with modern flourishes that await listeners of this remarkable album. Check out the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaXZiVjyQjA (Preview)

Early press has already dubbed the album a hit with Classic Rock (DE) giving Like Elephants 1 a 9 out of 10, and Stateside tastemaker site Revolt Of The Apes declaring The Movements, “a band that we’ll be seeking to observe for many, many moons to come.”

The band will be supporting the release of Like Elephants 1 with shows in and around Europe, including Germany and Finland.

Dutch Prog Rockers Sky Architect Return With Brand New Album ‘A Billion Years Of Solitude’

Dutch Prog Rockers Sky Architect Return With Brand New Album
‘A Billion Years Of Solitude’

Netherlands – Two years after their ambitious ‘A Dying Man’s Hymn’, Sky Architect are now back with their highly anticipated third album titled ‘A Billion Years Of Solitude’. Prepare for a launch into space. Prepare for wormholes. Prepare for planet eaters, supernovae, and lots of unexpected twists and turns. This time heavily inspired by the vintage science fiction classics, Sky Architect boldly venture into new territories, once again proving themselves to be pioneers within the genre.

On ‘A Billion Years Of Solitude’, Sky Architect sound heavier, are more daring and inventive, and have challenged themselves more than ever before. In every step in the process, including the cover artwork, the band have taken full creative control. The result: a stunning outburst of creativity, featuring typical Sky Architect elements such as surprising changes, crazy rhythmic devices, polyphonic arrangements and extensive song structures. Fans of Gentle Giant, The Flower Kings, Beardfish and Pain Of Salvation take note!

Sky Architect is a young Rotterdam-based band. You might be inclined to say they play progressive rock music, but they’d prefer you to just listen to their music free of such limitations. As certified architects, they have the technical proficiency to pull off everything they want to perfection, to draw out a flawless design and lay down a firm foundation. Then, instead of filling it in, they keep to the skeletal set-up and let the weather – be it rain, wind or sunshine – rush through it. However hefty the subject tackled, however heavy the sound, the ‘sky’ always maintains a feel of playfulness, an airy breeze keeping things fresh and unexpected. The band is on a mission to prove that progressive rock is not only beautiful, but can also be exciting.

Sky Architect evolved from a three-piece called Seraphine, consisting of Wabe, Christiaan and Rik, formed in 2008 at the Rotterdam Conservatory. A year later, Guus and Tom joined and the rest, as they say, is history. Since then, two albums (Excavations of the Mind, A Dying Man’s Hymn) were released to critical acclaim. Inspiration for their music runs far and wide. From the usual suspects of our time (Flower Kings, Pain of Salvation, Opeth) and the ones from the genre’s heyday ( Pink Floyd, Genesis, King Crimson) towards wildly different acts from the realms of classical music, modern jazz, alternative rock – the energy and commitment of a band like Rage Against the Machine would be a prime example – and many more. This versatility is confirmed by tracing the other projects of the band members, which run the gambit from jazz to folk and from pop to metal. Christiaan is also well-known and highly acclaimed in the scene under his solo moniker Chris. In their short history, they have already played on such esteemed festivals as Night of the Prog, ProgPower and Terra Incognita, sharing the stage with luminaries such as Dream Theater, Riverside and The Tangent.

For the new record, the band was inspired by, and wanted to evoke the feel of, sci-fi movies from the 50s and 60s. Listening to it, you will be transported to a universe and era in which black holes and supernovas are an essential part of everyday life, intergalactic wars are waged and multidimensional beings are waiting past every corner to lunge at you. Through this material, Sky Architect have created an opportunity to craft and twist their sound to fit the subject, and in doing so, grow further as a band. You could call the result space rock, though once again they’d prefer for you to have an open mind and to just go and listen to it.

‘A Billion Years Of Solitude’ will be released by Galileo Records on November 4th.

Celebrated Music Duo Glass House To Release Highly Anticipated Third Album – ‘Long Way Down’

“Excellent. Listen up!!” – Bobby McFerrin

Oakland, CA – Much to the anticipation of music aficionados worldwide, the long-awaited third album from acclaimed Oakland music duo Glass House, ‘Long Way Down’, will be released on October 15, 2013. Featuring David Worm, best known for his long association with vocal pioneer Bobby McFerrin and guitarist / multi-instrumentalist Mark Vickness.

Combining songwriting influences from artists such as Sting, Paul Simon, Peter Gabriel, Jason Mraz and Dave Matthews, with performance styles influenced by Bobby McFerrin and Michael Hedges, ‘Long Way Down’ is a tour de force of Mark Vickness’ intricate, layered guitars and David Worm’s soaring, blues-inflected vocals. The CD reflects the full range of Glass House, from the sparsely haunting solo acoustic guitar and voice rendition of Robbie Robertson’s “Broken Arrow”, the funk string quartet intro to “Turn Away” to the driving, world music-infused choral tapestry of “Build A Bridge”. Lyrics run the gamut from tender personal pathos (For Now, Thank You) to timely political and social narratives (Turn Away, Where I Belong). Widely-acclaimed YouTube videos by Glass House Music have been viewed by hundreds of thousands of fans. When the live version video of Broken Arrow was first released, it was the seventh most-viewed YouTube video according to Billboard.com, beating out Christina Aguilera’s “You Lost Me” and Pearl Jam’s “Unthought Known.”

Says Mark, “I would say the overreaching concept of the new album is as simple as two old friends writing and performing well crafted, honest songs with the help of a bunch of superb artists we were lucky to be able to work with. The lyrics generally speak to two different themes: 1) socially responsible messages, and 2) personal songs usually involving some kind of striving for fulfillment. Musically, this third CD is the culmination of 23 years working together. It blends the various styles David and I have been involved in over the years: singer/songwriter, folk, blues, jazz, classical, world.”

With over twenty-three years of working together, David Worm and Mark Vickness have shared much more than a passion for great songwriting. From personal tragedy to the joy of raising children, through all the changes of the last two decades, these musicians have made writing songs together a constant thread, a platform on which to build not just a body of work but a lifelong friendship and a musical chemistry that infuses every song.

Over the years, David and Mark have worked with many phenomenal musicians. That trend continues on their new album. Producer/bassist Jon Evans is well-known for his years recording and touring with Tori Amos and Third Eye Blind. Two time Grammy winners, The Turtle Island String Quartet contribute their remarkable talents on two songs. Also appearing are drummers Scott Amendola (Charlie Hunter), L.A. studio ace, MB Gordy (Frank Zappa, Green Day, Bill Withers), tabla virtuoso Ty Burhoe, violinist Mads Tolling (Stanley Clarke) and vocalists Ashling Cole (Prince) and Julianna Graffagna (Kitka).

David Worm, a native of Oakland California, began his singing career in 1985 with the Bay Area groups Jazz Mouth and Vocal Front. In 1989 he became a founding member of Bobby McFerrin’s Voicestra and has remained a regular performer with McFerrin, featured on recordings, videos, and touring internationally. Most recently, David performed with McFerrin at the San Francisco debut of McFerrin’s Vocabularies with the Pacific Mozart Ensemble. David is also a founding member of the a cappella group, SoVoSo, an internationally acclaimed vocal ensemble which has released six albums and tours worldwide. Other current performing projects include touring and teaching in the innovative improvisational trio, WeBe3, where he teams up with dear friends and vocal powerhouses Rhiannon and Joey Blake, collaborating with spoken word artist PC Munoz and his band Left Hook, and singing and performing with the Bay Area’s Miribai Ensemble. David has over fifty recording credits as a session singer, vocal percussionist, and writer, and his original music has been recorded by groups both nationally and internationally. David has worked extensively with the Bay Area dance community, having scored or co-written numerous full-length works for Robert Moses’ Kin (one of these projects being a recipient of the Isadora Duncan Award), Oberlin Dance, Tandy Beal, Project Bandaloop (an Isadora Duncan Award nominee), Cherie Carson, June Watanabe, and Suzanne Gallo. David’s music has also been used in scoring the film documentaries “StepUp” for Canadian director Tamas Wormser, and “Love Francesca” for producer Julie LaSalle. David has taught improvisational singing and vocal percussion at the Omega Institute in New York, The Esalen Institute in Big Sur California, and regularly teaches vocal improvisation and vocal percussion in schools and other places of learning throughout the U.S. and Europe

Taught from an early age (he began his studies in classical piano at age six) to broaden his musical horizons as much as possible, Mark Vickness is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and composer with a huge musical range developed over years of study, recording and performance. With a master’s degree in composition, Mark has written scores from simple pieces for piano and voice to large jazz ensembles to a concerto for North Indian Tabla, from large-scale ballets to documentary film scores. He has years of experience in world music having performed in West African Drum ensembles, an Indonesian Gamelan orchestra, and as a sitarist and tabla player. A classically trained guitarist, his principle influences are Michael Hedges, Pat Metheny, John Mclaughlin, Joe Pass and Ralph Towner. Mark has led rock bands, jazz bands, experimental improvisational groups and everything in between. He plays a custom-made eight string guitar/bass, a Michael Greenfield G4 fan fret six-string and a Duane Noble eleven-string harp guitar. He is endorsed by Greenfield Guitars. Mark began writing songs at age twelve inspired initially by iconic songwriters including James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Elton John and Pete Townsend.

Here’s what’s being said about “Long Way Down’:

“Excellent. Listen up!!” – Bobby McFerrin

“Just beautiful. I don’t want it to end. We’re filled in this world with a lot of things that bring us down, that knock our spirits down. Music like that just lifts me up.” – Larry Kelp, KPFA 94.1 FM

“Thanks so much for the terrific show at Noe Valley Ministry last night. I thoroughly enjoyed your performance, especially the opening song – just beautiful work.” – Drew Pearce, Bay Area music journalist

“Glass House will no doubt strike a chord with its target audience.” – Kirsty Evans, East Bay Express

In conclusion, Mark has this to impart, “We hope our audience will give ‘Long Way Down’ a close listening. Our music is intricate. It’s layered. With my background as a composer and David’s work with different types of vocal groups over the years, the arrangements on ‘Long Way Down’ are rich with subtlety. The guest artists added a lot of great playing and harmony singing. Enjoy!”

Metal Superstars Reinvent Michael Jackson’s Biggest Hits On A New Tribute Album

Metal Superstars Reinvent Michael Jackson’s Biggest Hits On A New Tribute Album

Performances by Danny Worsnop of ASKING ALEXANDRIA, Chuck Billy of TESTAMENT, Elias Soriano of NONPOINT, Lajon Witherspoon of SEVENDUST, Phil Campbell of MOTÖRHEAD, Doug Pinnick of KING’S X, Angelo Moore of FISHBONE, Priya Panda of DIEMONDS, Chris Jericho of FOZZY, Corey Glover of LIVING COLOUR and more!

Los Angeles, CA – Just in time for Halloween, a scarily impressive alliance of metal and hard rock luminaries has formed to create one of the most depraved abominations of musical crossbreeding in history – an all metal tribute to the King Of Pop, Michael Jackson, available on CD October 22! Never before have such quintessential pop hits as “Beat It,” “Thriller,” “Billy Jean” and “Man In The Mirror” been so completely transformed, substituting softly stylized synths with crunchy, distorted guitars, replacing the pitter patter of programmed beats with pulverizing double bass acoustic drums, and topping it off with some of the finest, most powerful vocals in metal. When completed, these reinventions pay due respect to the expertly crafted melodies and songs that made Michael Jackson one of the most beloved figures in all of music, and offer legions of metalheads a reason to simultaneously grab their crotches and throw the horns in celebration! \m/ \m/

Spearheaded by producer/musician Bob Kulick, who also helped in the arrangement of these cover versions, the project was in his words a “labor of love” for all involved. Exclaims Kulick, “We made these awesome songs kick ass while still being faithful to the original versions. Add killer players like Doug Aldrich, Billy Sheehan, Bruce Kulick, Rudy Sarzo, Tony Franklin, Craig Goldy, Bumblefoot, Phil Campbell and you’ve got some real MAGIC!” Rudy Sarzo, a stalwart of the metal scene as a member of both Quiet Riot and Queensrÿche, reflects, “Michael Jackson’s music is synonymous with iconic rockers such as Eddie Van Halen, Steve Stevens and Slash. So it’s only fitting that the rock community pays tribute to this legendary artist with Metal Mike!” And Fishbone’s Angelo Moore expresses great enthusiasm for his contribution, saying “I never thought I would hear myself doing a cover of ‘The Way You Make Me Feel,’ but it’s an honor and a dream come true. We put a different twist on it to give it a whole new light, or maybe I should say a whole new dark!”

In addition to the legends Kulick enlisted, several of today’s modern metal figures also contributed, including Elias Soriano of Nonpoint, who comments, “It was my pleasure to do this tribute to MJ. My admiration for the talent and history he has given to music overall will be hard to replace. My only wish is that I did him justice with my performance.” Jason Myers, of Icarus Witch, one of the current flag bearers in the traditional metal scene, declares, “When we were approached by Cleopatra to contribute to the Michael Jackson tribute we were honored (due to the legendary talent already on board), but a bit skeptical about how our fans would react…Choosing an unorthodox hit took a bit of pressure off and allowed us to put more of ourselves into the track.”

Finally, bassist Tony Franklin, who has worked with everyone from Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page to Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour to Whitesnake, confirms the surprise and astonishment many felt during the creation of the album, “The first thing I noticed was how easily these out and out pop songs translated to the metal genre. That is the sign of, one, a great song and, two, a great production and arrangement.” He goes on to note that it wasn’t just the songs that were transformed when Metal met Pop on these recordings; the performers themselves were transformed. He states, “It was very cool to see how the guest artists interpreted these songs as it brought out a different side of them – a side we wouldn’t usually hear.”
