Hong Kong Based Artist Jennifer Saran Releases New Single and Video “Rise Up Time”

Produced By the Legendary Narada Michael Walden, released Worldwide on February 22nd, 2016 on Tarpan Records

San Francisco – Jennifer Saran is a North American alt-pop/adult contemporary artist, songwriter and vocalist based in Hong Kong. The first single from her upcoming album Walk With Me is “Rise Up Time,” available digitally worldwide with its release on February 5th, 2016. Her new album was created with the legendary producer Narada Michael Walden, and is being released through his label Tarpan Records.

In tandem with the single’s release there is an original animated music video for Rise Up Time, which will be seen on both online and broadcast outlets. This video features original animation created by Jojo Ramos (Warner Brothers Animator) in Los Angeles, CA. The video’s concept was conceived by Jennifer Saran and brought to life in this wonderful depiction geared toward both children and adults alike. The single is currently played on dozens of radio stations and is being added to more every week.
Jennifer Saran’s upcoming album is a contemporary mix of brand new originals penned by herself and Narada, many of which revolve around the central themes of love and family and positive messages. Musically the album spans ballads to up-tempo grooves, while also including some swing and gospel influences.

Narada enlisted some amazing musicians and performers for his band on Walk With Me including: Frank Martin (Sting, Angela Bofil, John Handy Band, Tuck & Patti, Jose’ Neto, Airto & Flora, & Trudie’s Rainforest Band) on Keyboards, Angeline Saris (Ernest Ranglin, Zepparella) on Bass and Vocals, Matthew Charles Heulitt (Zigaboo Modaliste) and Jose’ Neto on Guitars. Additional Backing Vocals on this album include vocalists Nate Soul Sanger and Cornell Carter. All of the strings were arranged and conducted by Minna Choi of Magik*Magik Orchestra.

Jennifer Saran, aka Jennifer Hill, was born in Washington DC to a Canadian mother and American father. It was at the local Episcopal Church while at school in Villars, Switzerland, where she first realized how much she loved to sing, performing Handel’s Messiah a cappella. Jennifer went on to attend high school in Alexandria, Egypt, where she performed in school plays and learned to speak Arabic. She then attended The American University in Cairo, earning a Bachelors Degree in Political Science. Throughout her years growing up in Egypt she and her friends always followed the local Egyptian live bands that performed American and British pop music, dreaming one day of being a singer.

She went through a long dry spell away from music – raising children, working in various corporate roles, singing in the shower or car, rarely having any time to go out dancing. She was moved to Philippines for an international corporate role for 2 years, followed by Singapore for another 2 years, and then to Hong Kong where she has lived for the past 24 years.

Her new full-length album Walk With Me was recorded and produced entirely at Tarpan Studios in San Rafael, California, by legendary producer Narada Michael Walden and will be released in late April of 2016. Narada has produced music royalty like Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and Aretha Franklin. With Narada’s music and Jennifer’s lyrics and vocals, they have created a tremendous debut album that is sure to captivate a worldwide audience.

Celebrate The Life Of Former WARRANT Singer JANI LANE With This Collection Of Superb Solo Performances!

Los Angeles, CA – In 2011, the rock world lost an incredibly gifted singer and songwriter, a man whose voice reverberated around the world on such blockbuster hits as “Cherry Pie,” “Down Boys,” “Sometimes She Cries,” “Uncle Tom’s Cabin,” and the unforgettable ballad “Heaven.” Jani Lane joined Warrant in 1985, and together the band lit up the L.A. club circuit, becoming an international sensation with multi-platinum albums and an adoring fanbase. Always a music lover at heart, after Lane left Warrant in 2004, he continued to write and record, often paying homage to some of his musical heroes by participating in tribute projects to Cheap Trick, Judas Priest and others. Now a new CD compilation collects some of these superb solo performances in one convenient package and for the first time ever on vinyl! Catch A Falling Star, which includes Lane’s takes on UFO’s “Doctor, Doctor,” Def Leppard’s “Photograph,” and Bon Jovi’s epic “Lay Your Hands On Me, will be released February 26 on Deadline Music.

In addition to guest appearances by two of Lane’s bandmates, guitarist Erik Turner & bassist Jerry Dixon, Catch A Falling Star includes liner notes by former Warrant drummer Bobby Borg who shares his personal recollections of Lane. There is “no better tribute to Lane than a collection of covers,” Borg writes, “Those who saw Warrant perform live know that Lane loved to mix cover songs into the show…songs by The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Joe Walsh, Queen, and other artists throughout our live sets. (I loved that about the band.).” Speaking of Lane’s distinctive vocal style, Borg writes “Lane was able to convey the subject matter of a song emotionally—whether soft and heartfelt or loud and aggressive—while always maintaining a certain charm as if he were grinning warmly.” This collection is the perfect way to remember both the man and immense musical gifts, and is sure to leave a warm grin on the face of his fans everywhere.

Audio Fidelity To Release “The Bootleg Series Vol. 6 Bob Dylan Live 1964 Concert at Philharmonic Hall” on Hybrid Multichannel 5.0 SACD

Dylan Live 1964 Slipcase Mockup
For Immediate Release

Audio Fidelity To Release “The Bootleg Series Vol. 6 Bob Dylan Live 1964 Concert at Philharmonic Hall” on Hybrid Multichannel 5.0 SACD

“As eminently listenable as it is historically important!”

Camarillo, CA – Marshall Blonstein’s Audio Fidelity will be releasing “The Bootleg Series Vol. 6 Bob Dylan Live 1964 Concert at Philharmonic Hall” on Hybrid multichannel 5.0 SACD.

This 5.0 SurroundSound mix of Bob Dylan’s October 31, 1964 “Halloween” show at New York’s Philharmonic Hall is a complete recording and has never been released in this format until now. This 2-CD Audio Fidelity collection presents the entire concert from the original Columbia Records (SONY) master tapes. The package also includes a 56-page book filled with historical photographs and informative notes. The Halloween concert of 1964 had been previously bootlegged on vinyl and CD, but those releases were incomplete and taken from poor dubs off the soundboard tapes.

This 1964 concert is the first all acoustic live performance to enter Bob Dylan’s discography. This recording certainly has its share of firsts and highlights, including the only known live version of “Spanish Harlem Incident,” the premiere of the songs “Gates of Eden” and “If You Gotta Go, Go Now.”

Here is Dylan as an eager-to-please 23 year old with nothing between him and his audience but a guitar and a harmonica. His voice is in top form throughout the 19 song set and when Joan Baez joins him on stage the voltage only increases.

In marked contrast to the tight-lipped living legend of the mid-’70s, here is Dylan as entertainer, joking and bantering with the crowd and he proves to be a very masterful performer.

While much has been made of the later electric performance of the 1960s, it is here that you can see how good Dylan really was. He shows all the budding facets of his art up to this time, from the protest songs, the more introspective material and the radical new direction he was pursuing.

Of course, as with all Audio Fidelity hybrid multichannel releases the SACD is compatible on all standard players and includes the 2-track stereo mix layer as well.

Drum Legend Corky Laing Is Back On The Road!

Drum Legend Corky Laing Is Back On The Road!

NYC – The legendary drummer, Corky Laing, is back on the road with his first solo project since 1977. “Corky Laing plays Mountain” toured the UK in November 2015. Following an enthusiastic response from the UK audiences, he returns to Europe this spring. First up is a nine-day tour of Germany in February and in May he’ll be back in the UK. Corky is also locking in US dates starting with a package with Kofi Baker’s Cream Experience in Sag Harbor, NY in late February and with further dates for “Corky Laing plays Mountain” being scheduled for late May and early June.

After Mountain stopped touring in 2010, Corky has been busy with his one-man show, “Best Seat in the House” and the critically acclaimed “Playing God: The Rock Opera”. The Rock Opera has been performed in Basel, Switzerland, in Helsinki, Finland and last year it made its American debut with a sold out show at the Kaye Playhouse in the heart of Manhattan. This year the opera returns to Finland where, in addition to shows, it will be filmed for a video release.

Being back on the road with “Corky Laing plays Mountain” is a thrill for Corky. He loves playing the Mountain material the way it was originally written and says that behind the kit, in front of an audience, he feels like he is 18-year-old again. And from what the reviews say, the youthful enthusiasm is thoroughly reflected in the band’s sound and attitude.

French Music Legends Magma To Tour North America Spring 2016!

Magma US spring tour 2016 med

For Immediate Release

French Music Legends Magma To Tour North America Spring 2016!

Paris, France – One of music’s most innovative and eclectic ensembles Magma will tour North America beginning in March 2016! Swirling riffs in odd time signatures, theatrical choir arrangements, heavy and distorted pulsing bass guitar, bombastic and minimalistic (sometimes both at the same time), dark and brooding, adventurous and angelic, jazzy or classical, but always with the highly innovative and original drums of founder and main composer Christian Vander. On the forthcoming US dates the legendary ensemble will be performing selections of new and classic Magma music!

“MAGMA is happy to return to the United States to play for Americans. We know you are passionate, respectful and curious about music. We find you to be generous and open. It will be a joy for us to see you this year.” – Christian Vander

Magma was founded in Paris in 1969 by Christian Vander, who derived his inspiration from a “vision of humanity’s spiritual and ecological future” that profoundly disturbed him. Vander was a self-taught musician, who received some tips from drum legend Elvin Jones. In the course of Magma’s first album, the band tells the story of a group of people fleeing a doomed Earth to settle on the planet Kobaïa. Later, conflict arises when the Kobaïans, who are descendants of the original colonists, encounter other Earth refugees. A distinguished aspect of Magma’s music is that Vander actually invented a constructed language, Kobaïan, in which most lyrics are sung. Later albums told different stories set in more ancient times; however the Kobaïan language remained an integral part of the music. Reportedly, Christian Vander is also highly influenced by the work of jazz legend John Coltrane. “For my work, it is still Coltrane who actually gives me the real material to work on, to be able to move on.,” says Vander.

Clearly Magma is one of the most influential of all French bands. They have left a legacy of music that defies any of the standard and convenient classifications of rock, operating instead in a realm of their own creation. It waits to be discovered by new converts, and continually by older fans alike!

GONG Legend Daevid Allen’s Final Album “Daevid Allen Weird Quartet – ELEVENSES” To Be Released February 12, 2016

The Final Recordings from Gong & Soft Machine Co-Founder Daevid Allen!

Los Angeles – Purple Pyramid Records will be releasing on February 12, 2016 the final album from legendary Daevid Allen, one of the most innovative music artists to emerge from this planet! Daevid Allen Weird Quartet is a recording project bringing together Daevid Allen, founder of The Soft Machine and Gong, with Don Falcone of Spirits Burning, Michael Clare of Daevid Allen’s University of Errors, and drummers Trey Sabatelli (The Tubes) and Paul Sears (The Muffins). “ELEVENSES” is the second album by this band, following 2005’s “DJDDAY”, which was released under the band name “Weird Biscuit Teatime.” Daevid Allen Weird Quartet “ELEVENSES” is the last band album that Daevid worked on before his death, in March of 2015.

Christopher David Allen (13 January 1938 – 13 March 2015), better known as Daevid Allen, sometimes credited as Divided Alien, was an Australian and had a brilliant career as a poet, musician, artist, and one-time cab driver that spanned over fifty years. Daevid was constantly pushing boundaries and was always the center of activity. He continually inspired those around him to be creative and to achieve their best.

The Daily Telegraph said, “Allen revelled in being the court jester of hippie rock and never lost his enthusiasm for the transcendent power of the psychedelic experience. He once remarked, ‘Psychedelia for me is a code for that profound spiritual experience where there is a direct link to the gods.’ That he never attained the riches and fame of many of his contemporaries did not concern him.”

Daevid Allen Weird Quartet “ELEVENSES” album is a mixture of styles of music found throughout his career, plus a few surprises: a blues song in 7/4, a catchy Irish-tinged folk song, ambient and explosive instrumentals, a post-punk rave-up with Daevid’s final message on a record.

Former Trans-Siberian Orchestra / Mickey Hart Vocalist Tim Hockenberry to Release Self-titled Debut Album of Original Music March 4th 2016

Tim Hockenberry

For Immediate Release

Former Trans-Siberian Orchestra / Mickey Hart Vocalist Tim Hockenberry to Release Self-titled Debut Album of Original Music March 4th 2016

San Francisco, CA – Tim Hockenberry is a versatile multi-instrumentalist singer and songwriter whose voice is reminiscent of Ray Charles, Joe Cocker, and Tom Waits. He is releasing Tim Hockenberry, his self-titled debut album of all original music, worldwide on March 4th, 2016. He is also a gifted interpreter of well-known cover songs, and you only need to hear a few bars of Hockenberry singing I Left My Heart In San Francisco to understand that this is an artist who has a refreshingly authentic approach to great songs.

Tim gained international fame when he performed and made it to the semi-finals (last singer standing) on America’s Got Talent in 2012, where he was a favorite of judge Howard Stern. Stern declared Tim’s semi-final performance of John Lennon’s Imagine, with Tim on the piano accompanied by a cellist, “the most moving we’ve had from a singer in a long time.” The sparse arrangement won Stern over, who gave him a standing ovation and said the singer deserves “a place in the finals.” Sharon Osbourne described his performance as “very true” and “refreshing,” adding, “I thoroughly enjoyed it.” Howie Mandel said he could listen to Tim Hockenberry sing “all night long.”

Tim Hockenberry is best known for his engaging and intimate cover versions of a variety of well known hits, and for some 20 years he’s made his living singing them in concert halls, living rooms, private events, and clubs. It never really mattered what Tim sang; he was beloved by his fans. He hadn’t performed his own songs much, except for once-in-awhile occurrences. But that all changed when he met up with vocalist and producer, Natasha Miller.

In 2014 Tim didn’t have a manager, so he and Natasha entered into a formal agreement and began a complete reshaping of his musical direction—moving from covers to more of Tim’s own compositions. “I had heard a couple of Tim’s originals and thought they were ‘hit’ material,” says Natasha. “I asked him if he had more. Not only did he have more, they poured out of him, almost on demand.” Tim began writing more new songs, and they went back and looked at others he’d already done but put aside. With a couple more written by his sons, there were enough for a full-length recording.

The first track, “Me and You,” was written by Tim with his 19-year-old son Maxx on Christmas Day in 2012. “If the Sky Was to Fall” was written with his youngest son Jack, who was 17 at the time. Meanwhile, about the same time Tim and Natasha began working together, she enlisted her brother Justin Miller to play with Tim in his live band and help shape a new and different sound for his shows. That was the turning point—it was Justin himself who did the production, arrangements and played most of the instruments on the entire project… “We all got excited and motivated and started on what would become a year-long project,” says Natasha. “It’s been so much fun!”

Tim’s songs became Justin’s canvas for painting nuances–sounds both bold and subtle that spoke to the personality and content of each song itself. Stories Tim was telling through his songs became more vivid and alive in Justin’s interpretation and imagination. The common threads throughout are Tim’s vocals and writing. Each song charts its own unique journey from the first moment to the end. From pizzicato violin, yodeling, and the klezmer-sounds of the accordion to the speech-like tones of the Hammond B3 and the Deep-South wailing of the slide guitar—the songs travel through many layers of what is categorized these days as Americana. Mostly acoustic, always authentic.

Born on June 13, 1962 in upstate New York, Tim’s family moved a few times during his childhood. He graduated in 1980 from Owatonna High School in rural Minnesota in a small town south of Minneapolis. Tim’s musical odyssey began when he sang in the choir, and then taught himself to play the piano while fervently playing the trombone as well. He eventually moved to Northern California and he has been a mainstay in the entertainment industry ever since, having become known for his covers of Sitting on the Dock of The Bay or Christmas by the Bay. Tim Hockenberry splits his time between Charleston, South Carolina and San Francisco, California, where he has become a beloved part of the Bay Area’s rich arts culture.

Over the past few years Tim Hockenberry has shared the stage with many legendary performers including Bonnie Raitt, Steve Miller, and Robert Cray, to name a few. Tim has established himself as a very compelling and important artist in the Bay Area music scene. In addition to touring with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra and with Mickey Hart of the Grateful Dead, Tim has performed at high-profile venues all over northern California, including The Fillmore, Great American Music Hall, Bimbo’s 365 Club, The Napa Valley Opera House, The Luther Burbank Center for the Performing Arts, Feinstein’s at the Hotel Nikko, and 142 Throckmorton Theater. He has also headlined at a multitude of festivals including the Robert Mondavi Summer Concert Series, the Clearwater Jazz Festival, and the Mill Valley Arts Festival.

Rick Wakeman Releases Piano Version of Life on Mars in Aid of Macmillan

Rick Wakeman Releases Piano Version of Life on Mars in Aid of Macmillan

“It was obvious from the listeners’ response to Rick playing ‘Life On Mars’ on Radio 2 Drivetime last Monday, that they wanted to own a copy of this beautiful piece of music, as well as make a contribution. With Rick releasing this new recording it’s a perfect way to do that.”
– BBC Radio 2 presenter, Simon Mayo:

London, UK – Following the overwhelming response to Rick Wakeman’s piano tribute to David Bowie, Rick has recorded new piano versions of both Life on Mars and Space Oddity with royalties going to Macmillan Cancer Support. The tracks are now available from Amazon, as well as iTunes and Tesco.

Rick, a close friend who worked with Bowie, was the pianist on the original 1971 release of Life On Mars and appeared on BBC Radio 2 last Monday (11th January) on the day of Bowie’s death, to play his own tribute to the star. The video of his emotional performance has since been viewed over 2 million times on the BBC Radio 2 website and after receiving thousands of requests from fans, Rick headed back into the studio to re-record the tracks which include Life on Mars, Space Oddity and Always Together.

Rick said: “I feel extremely fortunate to be able to release my piano version of David Bowie’s Life On Mars and Space Oddity, both of which I performed on the original releases. I think it’s very apt for the proceeds to go to Macmillan, a charity that is so crucial to so many people. I witnessed this first hand when I lost my mother to cancer and the work they do comes from the heart and is truly priceless.

“Whilst some amazing advances in medicine mean that some form of cancers have a very high survival rate and indeed prolonged life in others, with all cancers it is a very tough time for both the patient and their loved ones. Hopefully the songs will not only be a fitting tribute to David, but will also raise some money to help Macmillan with the wonderful work they do, ensuring no-one faces cancer alone.”

Jane Maher, Chief Medical Officer at Macmillan Cancer Support, says: “We were so very sad to hear the news about David Bowie and our thoughts are with his family and friends. Sadly the number of people with cancer in the UK is growing rapidly and half of us will face a cancer diagnosis at some point in our lives, so it has never been more important that everyone gets the emotional, practical, physical and financial support they need. We want people to feel comfortable talking openly about what they’re going through with friends, family and experts or – through our online community – other people whose lives have been affected by cancer.

“We know that music is something that not only brings people together, but also helps them through difficult times and so we are deeply grateful that Rick has decided to donate the proceeds from these tracks to Macmillan. The money raised will help us to continue to offer a range of support for anyone affected by cancer.”

Music Legend Jesse Colin Young Signs Distribution Deal With Audio Fidelity

Camarillo, CA – Marshall Blonstein’s Audio Fidelity and Jesse Colin Young of Pigfoot Music LLC are pleased to announce a distribution agreement to release 180g vinyl and DVD recordings from the critically acclaimed artist’s highly regarded catalog. While lead singer of The Youngbloods his legendary rock band took the nation by storm when their single Get Together became a worldwide Top 10 hit and a prominent soundtrack for peace.

After seven albums with the group, Young released more than 15 celebrated solo albums including Song for Juli a work many critics agree is his solo masterpiece. This popular album will be the initial Pigfoot Music release to be distributed by Audio Fidelity beginning in April. Following 1971’s Song for Juli four more albums charted over the next three years, Light Shine in 1974, Songbird and On the Road in 1975 and Love on the Wing in 1976. Each of those solo albums contained breakthrough tracks from country fusion to jazz fusion to blues rock that received airplay on radio stations across America.

Jesse’s musical accomplishments are many, including performing with Led Zeppelin, The Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin in 1969; touring with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young in the summer of 1974; from walking off the Johnny Carson show, to singing for Native American rights. Get Together has been heard from the 13X-multi-platinum Forrest Gump soundtrack in 1994 to the widely seen Luv’s commercial in 2010. Darkness Darkness, written by Jesse, was the theme song for the James Cameron movie Ghosts of the Abyss in 2003. A cover of the song by Robert Plant won the Grammy for Best Rock Vocal in 2003 and remains a popular cover song for many bands.

The Queens, NY native recorded his first album, The Soul of a City Boy while living in the Greenwich Village in 1964. He recorded a second album, Young Blood, featuring supporting musicians, including John Sebastian and Peter Childs. After the two solo albums, he then formed The Youngbloods which included guitarist Jerry Corbitt, whom he met on the New York to Boston club circuit, and keyboardist/guitarist Lowell “Banana” Levinger, and drummer Joe Bauer. Get Together appeared on their 1967 debut album and re-released as a single in 1969, after the heartfelt refrain of “Come on people now, smile on your brother” was used as the television theme for the National Council of Christians and Jews.

During the 1970’s, Jesse helped establish the “No Nukes” movement. Involved from the very beginning, he closed the 1979 “No Nukes” concert and movie singing the iconic Youngblood’s anthem Get Together, joined by legends Jackson Browne, Stephen Stills, and Graham Nash. Throughout the 1980’s, Jesse toured as a solo artist, often appearing at fundraisers for various organizations.

Throughout his professional life of recording and touring, Jesse has also taken the time to dedicate his life to giving back to the world. He has performed on behalf of organizations ranging from the Dream Foundation to the Kona Pacific Waldorf School to the Saratoga WarHorse project for veterans. Always holding environmental accountability, care for our returning veterans, and quality education as a moral code of action, Jesse remains committed and active as an individual and performer. Jesse has also been an organic coffee farmer for 25 years.

Mike Clark – While often referred to as the “Tony Williams of funk,” Mike Clark considers jazz his first love. He gained worldwide recognition as one of America’s foremost jazz and funk drummers while playing with Herbie Hancock in the early seventies. His incisive playing on Hancock’s “Actual Proof” garnered him an international cult following and influenced generations of drummers. Mike has performed with such well-known jazz greats as Herbie Hancock, Christian McBride, Chet Baker, John Scofield, Nicholas Payton, Tony Bennett, Wayne Shorter, Joe Henderson, Eddie Henderson, Bobby Hutcherson, Vince Guaraldi, Woody Shaw, Donald Harrison, Albert King, Larry Coryell, Mike Wolff, Wallace Roney, Billy Childs, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Chris Potter, Bobby McFerrin, Nat Adderly, Oscar Brown Jr., and Gil Evans and his Orchestra. James Genus – In baseball, “five-tool player” denotes excellence in every aspect of the game—running, throwing, fielding, hitting for average and power. It’s an interesting way to think about the prodigious skills of bass master James Genus, a one-time catcher who eschewed the “tools of ignorance” for music a year before leaving high school. Consider the range of contexts that Genus is navigating during 2013. As electric bassist in the Saturday Night Live house band, his employer since 2000, he propels artists representing a 360-degree range of styles and genres. His pulsing grooves—interlocked with drummer Omar Hakim—animate dance-electronica hitmakers Daft Punk’s chart-topping CD Random Access. With Herbie Hancock, he references an encyclopedic lexicon of harmony and beats on both electric and upright to complement the leader’s anything-goes attitude. For much of this summer and fall he’s showcasing his resonant tone and unfailingly melodic basslines on a world tour with Bob James and David Sanborn behind this year’s Quartette Humaine, on which Genus performed with drum grandmaster Steve Gadd.

Dave Stryker – Whether you’ve heard guitarist Dave Stryker leading his own group (with 26 CD’s as a leader to date), co-leading The Stryker/Slagle Band, or as a featured sideman with Stanley Turrentine, Jack McDuff, and many others, you know why the Village Voice calls him “one of the most distinctive guitarists to come along in recent years.” Dave’s new CD “Messin’ with Mister T”, is a celebration of the man he worked with for over a decade-Stanley Turrentine -with ten of the greatest tenor sax players on the scene today. It went to #1 on JazzWeek Radio and stayed in the Top 50 for 20 weeks and has received great reviews including 4 1/2 stars in Downbeat magazine, which picked it as one of the Top CD’s of the year, ran a feature article on Dave, and recently voted him into the 2015 the DB Critics and Readers Poll for the 8th time.
