Los Angeles – Legendary French violinist Jean Luc Ponty and his band will be bringing their “Atlantic Years” tour to the US beginning late May 2017! Jean Luc Ponty is a pioneer and undisputed master of the violin in the arena of jazz and rock. He is widely regarded as an innovator who has applied his unique visionary spin that has expanded the vocabulary of modern music.

Says Jean Luc, “We’re calling it ‘The Atlantic Years’ tour since I am touring with my band from the late 70’s – 80’s with whom I recorded several albums for Atlantic Records.”

After studying classical violin at the Paris Conservatory, Jean Luc Ponty turned to jazz in the 60’s. Thanks to his revolutionary style he collaborated with some of the best European and American musicians such as Eddy Louiss, Daniel Humair, Niels Henning-Ørsted Pedersen, John Lewis, Lalo Schifrin, and Quincy Jones. He became the first bebop violinist and US jazz magazine “Down Beat” created a violin category for him in its critics’ poll, until then violin was in the ‘miscellaneous instruments’ category. His pioneering work on the electric violin in the 70’s attracted the attention of pop and rock musicians, he recorded with Elton John and participated to several tours and legendary recordings with Frank Zappa’s Mothers of Invention and John McLaughlin’s Mahavishnu Orchestra. In 1975 he founded his own band and became one of the most prominent figures of the jazz-fusion movement in the USA, selling millions of albums that all reached the top of the US charts. Ponty’s most recent album “The Atacama Experience” is considered as one if his best and to this day Ponty keeps touring with his band around the world.

Ponty also collaborates on occasional projects such as “The Rite of Strings” with Stanley Clarke and Al Di Meola. In 2011 Ponty joined the mythical American group RETURN TO FOREVER IV with Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, Lenny White and Frank Gambale for a world tour spanning on 5 continents.

Ponty received the 2007 Jazz Trophy in Germany, the medal of Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur in France in 2009, the 2011 Lifetime Achievement Awards in Ireland, and the Grand Prix of the Sochi Arts Festival in 2012 in Russia from the hands of world famous classical violist and orchestra conductor Yuri Bashmet. In 2012 Ponty performed his music with Orchestre Pasdeloup for his 50-year career celebration at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, then again with symphony orchestras in Brazil, Russia and Hungary in 2012 and 2013.

In April 2013 Herbie Hancock invited him to perform in Istanbul at “International Jazz Day” for UNESCO. Ponty also founded a new quartet with his daughter, pianist-singer-composer Clara Ponty which performed in France and Germany in 2014. Ponty also performed with the 89 musicians of the Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orcherstra for the Siberian Christmas Festival.

In 2014 Ponty recorded an album as an acoustic trio with Stanley Clarke on double bass and Gypsy-French guitarist Bireli Lagrene, which was released on Impulse/Universal in the Fall 2015.

Jean Luc recently formed the Anderson Ponty Band with Jon Anderson, co-founder and lead singer of British progressive rock band YES, a CD and DVD was released in 2015 followed by a North American concert tour.

The Band:

Baron Browne (bass) was born and raised in Georgia, USA, and gravitated to music at a very early age, learning to play his uncle’s drumset at 7 years old. At age 18, Baron moved to Boston to study at Berklee College of Music. He began working full time with Berklee alum such as Kevin Eubanks, Tiger Okoshi, Mike Stern, Bill Frisell and Dean Brown. In 1983 Jean Luc Ponty called Baron to audition, and hired him immediately. Baron toured with Ponty for 3 years and collaborated to 3 albums. Since then Baron has toured worldwide and recorded with Billy Cobham, Steps Ahead, jazz vibraphonist Gary Burton, and recorded many albums with Walter Beasley. His versatility allowed him to also perform with R&B and Pop artists such as Brian McKnight, Tom Jones and Expose’. Baron also writes and performs regularly with Vital Information.

Jamie Glaser (guitar) is best known as the guitarist for grammy award winning musical acts, Jean Luc Ponty, Chick Corea, Bryan Adams, Gloria Trevi, Manhattan Transfer and more. His guitar can be heard on over 170 albums as well as on the biggest sitcoms of all time, Seinfeld and Married With Children. Jamie compositions can be heard weekly on CBS sports, ABC, Animal Planet, History channel, Discovery, and ESPN. His solo albums have been successful worldwide.

Rayford Griffin (drums) has been internationally respected as among the most inventive, volcanic and versatile drummers in music, having amassed stellar credits with virtuosos ranging from Jean Luc Ponty and The Stanley Clarke Band, George Duke, to Dave Koz, Anita Baker and Michael Jackson.

Wally Minko (keyboards) is a well respected and highly accomplished member of the LA music scene and has toured and recorded with some of the most well known and successful artists in the world! King Crimson / Zappa / Bowie Guitar Legend Adrian Belew Announces Massive Spring 2017 North American Tour!

Asheville, NC – Legendary guitarist Adrian Belew, best known for his work with King Crimson, Frank Zappa and David Bowie, as well as his own critically acclaimed solo work, is happy to announce his Spring 2017 North American tour! A celebration of Adrian’s massive body of work past, present, and future! The tour, which spans across 23 US States and 3 Canadian Provinces, starts on February 28 in Vienna, VA. Adrian is touring with his Power Trio featuring Julie Slick on bass and drummer Tobias Ralph, both virtuoso musicians.

Adrian recently scored the music to “Piper”, a short movie by animation studio Pixar, which was released on June 17, 2016. The six-minute production tells the story of a small bird that lives on a beach, and must challenge herself to find food while avoiding treacherous waves. It was screened before “Finding Dory”, the full-length sequel to 2003’s “Finding Nemo”. Meanwhile, Adrian continues to work on the latest additions to his FLUX project, including an album called FLUXbybelew Volume Two and an in-app addition entitled FLUXation Pack Two.

Riding high off the success of their 1973 We’re An American Band hit album and tour Grand Funk retained the extraordinary Todd Rundgren to produce Shinin’ On, the band’s eighth album.

Don Brewer, Mark Farner, Mel Schacher and Craig Frost took the band to another level. The songs are tight, the vocals are excellent and the group is in top form. Shinin’ On is pure Grand Funk and considered a favorite among many fans and critics.

Shinin’ On‘s best songs are the tracks that became the hit single releases: the SACD opens with the dynamic title track augmented by Craig Frost’s keyboard work and pumped-up behind Don Brewer’s aggressive vocals the track infuses its hard-driving, spacey rock groove with some surprisingly ethereal vocal harmonies. London – Legendary Japan and Porcupine Tree keyboardist Richard Barbieri releases his most sonically expansive work to date, with a brand new album entitled Planets + Persona. It is the third Barbieri solo album, but the first to feature such a wide pallet of instrumentation. Vintage analogue synthesizers combine with acoustic performances and jazz elements. Twisted voices are always present, though not in a language we can recognize. Barbieri skilfully utilizes the talents of a pan-European core of musicians to produce an album that marries synthesized sounds with organic instrumentation to conjure up vivid, colourful and allusive soundscapes. It’s a skillful commingling of texture and tone, mood and musicality.

Recorded in London, Italy and Sweden, this is Barbieri’s most ambitious solo work to date with a central theme of duality that runs through the album. The title alone – “Planets and Persona” alludes to this, and the dialectic theme is a constant throughout the contrasting and shape-shifting sounds of the album. Take, for example, Night of the Hunter – inspired by Charles Laughton’s only directorial movie, the piece moves through subtle shifts of atmosphere and emphasis, through melodic, dream-like sequences through to harsher tones; it’s a piece that builds to a profound cumulative effect. Elsewhere, Solar Storm shifts gears artfully, with Percy Jones’ sometimes percussive bass work contrasting to the smoother synthesizer textures incisively. Barbieri’s purely solo Interstellar Medium shows that his ability to develop and realize a theme under his own auspices that underscores his innate creativity. It’s but one aspect of a thoroughly engrossing and immersive album.

As an ex-founder of the new-wave pioneers Japan, Barbieri was a leader in creating the ground-breaking synthesizer sound that defined the band and influenced the likes of The Human League, Duran Duran, Gary Numan, Talk Talk and a whole raft of artists to follow. His ear for composing unique soundscapes and synth textures has led to collaboration albums with other talented composers, such as Steve Hogarth (Marillion) Steve Jansen & Mick Karn (Japan) and Tim Bowness (No-Man)

Harr is a staff writer for Gonzo Weekly magazine, part of the Gonzo Multimedia label in England. In addition, he has contributed articles and photographs to Expose Magazine and Something Else Reviews in the U.S. His writings and photos are also captured in his weekly blog at diegospadeproductions.com. He is an aficionado of progressive and classic rock music from the early 1970’s and a frequent concert patron who has attended more than 400 shows during his lifetime. He was classically trained on the piano for seven years before transitioning to college and full-time “music patron” status. Besides music publications, Harr’s written work is also featured in technology books, including CIO Perspectives and Data Insights: New Ways to Visualize and Make Sense of Data, and in his blog on music and technology Alternative IT. All this has been a part of a 30-plus year career as a technology executive and patron of the rock ‘n’ roll arts.

Bozzio said, “I’ve been composing, (not just song writing, like for Missing Persons & Jeff Beck) since the ’70s. I compose in all styles (as one might classify them), from classical to ambient, electronic, film-like to fusion/rock or jazz. I have my own character or personality, it’s unique. I work with many different processes from writing notes on paper, to recording live, to several different computer software applications that are suited to the particular result I am trying to achieve. Both Zappa & famed musicologist Nicolas Slonimsky encouraged me to compose & I have had my Chamberworks performed at the Vienna Jazz Festival & in Holland w/Metropol Orkest.”

He continued, “I first got interested in Art & Sketching at the encouragement of renowned artist Don Van Vliet (aka: Captain Beefheart) who I played with on my first Zappa/Mothers of Invention tour in 1975. Don was always carrying markers & paper & it looked like fun, so I bought some myself & started. He was very encouraging. Last year, I released my first project called Rhythm & Sketch in collaboration with the art group Scene Four. Bozzio fulfilled major two and a half month US solo tours in 2014 and 2016 in which he displayed his artwork as the stage set while performing melodic, tuned melodies on his strikingly large drum set, to sold out crowds.

“I thought it would be great to share this music which I’ve been working on & keeping to myself for so long. I hope to show a different side of my expression from what people are used to seeing from my solo drumming. And, I wanted to have an abstract painting to represent & be paired with each title to create this hybrid project of music & art,” Bozzio explained.

It is over 70 individual pieces or movements of compositions with a painting in a booklet for each title, along with detailed liner notes for each piece, explaining his concepts, feelings, processes and approach for each. It will be available in a large vinyl-sized box set which includes the book of Artworks, 3 audio CDs & a solo drum performance DVD shot in Japan in 2015. London, UK – Legendary Greg Lake sadly passed away on Wed. Dec. 7th. As a founding member of King Crimson and Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Greg Lake has been a major force in music for over 40 years. He has long been considered a legendary voice and musical powerhouse whose impact changed the landscape of rock and roll. Many simply refer to him as “The Voice”.

Greg was just finishing his autobiography titled “Lucky Man”, which is scheduled for release in 2017.

Says his long time manger and friend Stewart Young, “Yesterday, December 7th, I lost my best friend to a long and stubborn battle with cancer. Greg Lake will stay in my heart forever, as he has always been. Despite his illness which he knew to be terminal he always took the view about his life, career and family that he was indeed a lucky man… His family would be grateful for privacy during this time of their grief. Here’s a brief synopsis of each track from Binky himself:

1. Sunday Morning – Has the spirit of an old Soul groove like Wilson Pickett Midnight mover infused with Melodic Rock Guitars licks. With Soulful Vocals crooning to regaining a lost love after an explosive break up

2. Just Enough – Is something for the ladies. Its another great song, a Soulful Ballad. It’s the feeling of a Bobby Womack classic as Binky delivers the Womack Style vocal feel. A story that says to the listener being with you is just enough I don’t need much more than that.

3. Nobody Loves Me Like You – This is authentic Womack from top to bottom. The delivery, the soul, the harmonized vocals, it’s all in there. This is a great tribute to Sam Cooke. the Womack Brothers and all the soulful singers that paved the way.

4. Me And My Guitar – Tells the story of a young Binky Womack living through the separation of his parents and how his Uncle Bobby Womack gave him a guitar to help him cope with the life ahead. Bluesy Soulful celebration of making it with a guitar as a best friend.

5. Malibu Nights – Is a Jazz piece. Skilled Saxophone and Guitar highlight the story of two lovers celebration of beauty and being in love on the Beaches of Malibu California USA

7. Must Be Nice – R&B at it’s finest A slow smooth seductive tale of when love works out right.

8. When You’re Wrong – Folk rockish groove Binky Womack & Bobby Womack went into the studio and recorded this future classic piece the original was sang by Bobby Womack and written produced and performed by Binky Womack but we had to go back in and remove Bobby Womack’s lead vocal and replace it with Binky Womack due to the confusion concerning the rights to Bobby’s vocal performance.

9. Gravity – John Mayer remake, Binky Womack is a huge fan of John Mayer. He writes classic timeless material and he has so many great songs, I had to pick one to redo. I chose Gravity because there is always gonna be some one who’s worked so hard risking loosing the things that matter most. The love of a good woman and the struggle to maintain walking in the light and staying out of the darkness that success can bring forth

10. I’m In Love – This song was written by Bobby Womack in the 70’s it’s been a hit for Wilson Pickett, Aretha Franklin and a hit for Bobby Womack on 2 albums. Binky Womack speeds up the tempo and delivers it to a new generation of first time listeners. This is a destined to top the charts

11. Love Is – A bluesy Rock n Roll punch to the face. Binky pulls a Prince move playing drums bass guitars keyboards and covers all the vocals. This song is everything opposite of “Must be nice” – Fast Loud and head banging.

12. Put Something Down On It – Also a single gaining Rock N Roll radio play and Rock video TV exposure, this song bangs heads. Screaming Guitar licks over a solid funk track laid back vocal verses enhance the story line if you want my love Put Something Down on it.

Binky will be involved in the Memorial Tour for his late uncle, Bobby Womack and his set will include favorites from Bobby’s pen as well as new material from Binky.
