Audio Fidelity To Release Mahavishnu Orchestra’s “Birds Of Fire” On Limited Edition 4.0 Quad SACD

“…sets out to further define and refine its blistering jazz-rock direction.”

Camarillo, CA – Marshall Blonstein’s Audio Fidelity is releasing the classic fusion album Birds of Fire by the Mahavishnu Orchestra as a limited edition Hybrid 4.0 Quad SACD. Birds of Fire is Mahavishnu Orchestra’s second album. It was released in the first half of 1973 and is the last studio album released by the original Mahavishnu Orchestra line-up before the group dissolved. The album became a major crossover hit, rising to number 15 on the pop album charts, and it remains the key item in the slim discography of the first Mahavishnu Orchestra.

Although it has much of the screaming rock energy of the band’s first album, Inner Mounting Flame, Birds of Fire is audibly more varied in texture, even more tightly organized, and more musical in content. A remarkable example of precisely choreographed, high-speed solo trading – with John McLaughlin, Jerry Goodman, and Jan Hammer all of one mind, supported by Billy Cobham’s machine-gun drumming and Rick Laird’s dancing bass.

Birds of Fire consists solely of compositions by John McLaughlin. This includes the track “Miles Beyond (Miles Davis)”, which McLaughlin dedicated to his friend and former bandleader. The SACD booklet features a poem entitled “Revelation” by Sri Chinmoy.

Audio Fidelity To Release “The Best Of The Doors” On Quadraphonic 4.0 Multichannel Hybrid SACD

Camarillo, CA – Much to the excitement of Doors fans and music fans worldwide, Marshall Blonstein’s Audio Fidelity will be releasing “The Best Of The Doors -1973” On Quadraphonic 4.0 Multichannel Hybrid SACD! The 2-channel stereo and DSD layers of the hybrid SACD were remastered from the original 2-track tapes which are available for the first time since 1970. The 4.0 Quad layer mirrors the earlier CD-4 QuadraDisc format, Quadraphonic 8-Track and reel-to-reel tape. “The Best of The Doors -1973” compilation album was also released in standard Stereo.

The Doors were among the most controversial, influential and unique rock acts of the 1960’s and beyond. After the death of Jim Morrison in 1971, the remaining members, Ray Manzarek, John Densmore and Robby Krieger continued as a trio until disbanding in 1973.

Each of the tracks on “The Best Of The Doors-1973” have been taken primarily from the original two-track masters of the eight albums recorded by the band between 1967 and 1971. Three of the band’s studio albums, “The Doors” (1967), “L.A. Woman” (1971), and “Strange Days” (1967), were featured in the Rolling Stone list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. The popular rock magazine also listed The Doors as “One of The 100 Greatest Artists of All Time!” As a matter of fact The Doors have been listed as one of the greatest artists of all time by many magazines and in 1993 were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Audio Fidelity To Release “The Best Of The Guess Who” Album On Limited Edition 4.0 Quad Hybrid SACD

Audio Fidelity To Release “The Best Of The Guess Who” Album On Limited Edition 4.0 Quad Hybrid SACD

Great classic rock…All their major hits!

Camarillo, CA – Marshall Blonstein’s Audio Fidelity will be releasing The Guess Who’s “The Best Of Guess Who” album on Limited Edition 4.0 Quad Hybrid SACD in April 2015. They didn’t have street cred; they didn’t look like stars; and they weren’t considered “cool” by the ultra hip and snooty underground FM rock crowd. But over the course of their career, The Guess Who created some of the most transcendent and electrifying pop music of the Seventies. The Guess Who stubbornly flew in the face of fashion, trends, and the flourishing progressive rock movement, and built an enduring body of work that illuminates their status as immensely gifted pop rock practitioners.

Though influenced by the British Invasion, The Guess Who were purely Canadian rockers. The band scored a string of Top Ten hits in the late ’60s and early ’70s, including the psychedelic-romantic smash “These Eyes” and the riff-rocking anthem “American Woman.” The band was a huge success in the States and even performed at President Nixon’s inaugural ball (with the acerbic “American Woman” conspicuously omitted from the set list).

Burton Cummings’ throaty baritone vocals and guitarist Randy Bachman’s theatrical riffs gave the band their versatile sound – and their rocking classics sound as vital today as they did when they were first released.

As a special bonus that audiophiles and fans alike are sure to enjoy, Audio Fidelity has included in each package a miniature version of the coveted psychedelic poster that was contained in the original 1971 vinyl album release!

Audio Fidelity To Release Soft Rock Legends Bread “The Best of Bread” On 4.0 Quadraphonic Hybrid SACD

“A true classic filled with rediscovered treasures…!”

Camarillo, CA – With many exciting releases scheduled throughout 2015, Marshall Blonstein’s Audio Fidelity starts the New Year off with the release of soft rock legends Bread “The Best of Bread” on 4.0 Quadraphonic Hybrid SACD! This 1973 recording is a great collection of music from Bread, the popular 1970’s band best known for their mellow, smooth, melodic and often mournful tunes. Many of the classic Bread tunes included in this set live on through soft rock stations everywhere.

Lead singer David Gates crooned his way into America’s heart, and starting with “Make It With You” quickly spun off hits like “Everything I Own,” “Diary,” “Baby I’m A Want You,” “It Don’t Matter To Me” and “If.” At times, their songs had a more upbeat feel as with “Mother Freedom,” but they always retain that same soothing blend of soulful lyrics and gentle music. This album covers all the early hits and more delivered with a deceptively breezy tone by one of pop’s purest vocalists.

Audio Fidelity reassembled all the original masters of the tracks that appeared on the album release rather than work from the compiled “Best of…” master thus giving the recording a completely fresh, updated sound.

TRACKS:

Camarillo, CA – Exploding onto the scene as a band determined only to expand the boundaries of popular music, Blood, Sweat & Tears immediately made their mark as virtuoso players with an important vision and statement. Calling on Rock, R&B, Jazz and even Classical influences, the band, led by Al Kooper, made what remains one of the truly inspired, groundbreaking records of the late ’60s. Eric Clapton’s ‘Pilgrim’ Album To Be Release on Limited Numbered Edition Hybrid SACD

Eric Clapton’s ‘Pilgrim’ Album To Be Release on Limited Numbered Edition Hybrid SACD

“An Inspiring Masterpiece From The Guitar God – an essential to the Clapton library!”

Camarillo, CA – Adding to the series of Eric Clapton reissues, Marshall Blonstein’s Audio Fidelity will be releasing Clapton’s 1998 album ‘Pilgrim’ on Limited Numbered Edition Hybrid SACD! From the song titles “River of Tears,” “Broken Hearted,” “Going Down Slow,” “Sick and Tired” on down, ‘Pilgrim’ is the musical journal of an artist who has wandered into some dark places and come back the wiser for his troubles. 1998’s ‘Pilgrim’ is the 13th studio album by Eric Clapton, it was his first album of original material since 1989’s ‘Journeyman’ (also recently reissued on Hybrid SACD by Audio Fidelity).

The album is an intriguing musical tableau that experiments with drum machines and synthesized dashes of electronica and an inventive use of strings, performed by the London Session Orchestra, reminiscent of old-school R&B. There is wonderful, graceful guitar work throughout ‘Pilgrim’, Clapton provides some great hooks and emotional melodies. The best songs on this eloquent album of orchestrated blues meditations express a choked-up grief and despair. The songwriting is the standout feature of this album. Clapton wrote in his autobiography that he wanted to make the “saddest album.” He wrote or co-wrote every song except “Born in Time,” an overlooked Bob Dylan tune, and “Going Down Slow,” a classic blues written by St. Louis Jimmy. In two songs, “My Father’s Eyes” and “Circus,” Clapton alludes to the tragic death of his 4-year-old son. The songs are very moving with more complicated melodies and in depth lyrics. Clapton’s emphasis is placed on the entire arrangement instead of being built around a jam session.

Eric’s voice has never sounded better, his singing is raw and passionate, much of the music is informed by smooth R&B textures. On the album’s sizzling title track, he evokes some of the soulful eloquence of the great Curtis Mayfield. Clapton’s vocals are among the most convincing of his career. ‘Pilgrim’ is an atmospheric album whose mood is mostly melancholy. Unbearable loss and yearning are the central themes of ‘Pilgrim’, and with its heartbeat bass lines, melodic, meditative guitar figures and heartbreaking lyrics, it offers moments of pure beauty.

“…another evolutionary step from an always rebellious and ever-changing artist.”

The album produced multi-platinum sales and appeared on the year-end Top 100 lists of countries all around the world.

1. My Father’s Eyes
2. River of Tears

Camarillo, CA – Marshall Blonstein’s Audio Fidelity will be releasing a limited numbered edition 5.1 Multichannel Hybrid SACD of the legendary Mike Bloomfield – Al Kooper – Steve Stills ‘Super Session’ album! Al Kooper was an A&R executive with Columbia Records in the early 1960’s after leaving the group Blood, Sweat & Tears. The Super Session album was conceived as a jam session with Kooper on keyboards and former Paul Butterfield Blues Band member Mike Bloomfield on lead guitar along with veteran studio musician and Wrecking Crew member “Fast” Eddie Hoh on drums and Barry Goldberg, also on keyboards. Bloomfield was available during the first day of recording for Side 1 of the LP (tracks 1-5). Recorded on a shoestring budget over a 2-day period in Los Angeles, Super Session went on to become a rock classic and earned the trio a gold record for sales of over one million copies.

Audio Fidelity To Release Renaissance’s Legendary Prog Album ‘Scheherazade and other stories’ On Limited Numbered Hybrid SACD

Audio Fidelity To Release Renaissance’s Legendary Prog Album ‘Scheherazade and other stories’ On Limited Numbered Hybrid SACD

“One of the signature albums of 1970’s progressive rock!”

Camarillo, CA – Prog fans worldwide are buzzing with excitement over the forthcoming release of Renaissance’s legendary Prog album ‘Scheherazade and other stories’ by Marshall Blonstein’s Audio Fidelity on limited numbered Hybrid SACD. 1975’s ‘Scheherazade and other stories’ is a beautifully crafted album, expertly sung and played by Renaissance. The recording is filled with lush, orchestral progressive pop-rock and considered by many music critics to be their best album. Unlike other prog-rock groups, Renaissance eschewed much of the technology in favor of acoustic instruments and orchestral arrangements. Electric guitars and synthesizers were seldom used, giving the band’s music more of a symphonic sweep.

“The group’s magnum opus – The music is absolutely stunning!”

Renaissance is a band that went through various permutations, the best known being the line up featured here and they shine throughout the album: Annie Haslam’s soaring, pure vocals, John Tout’s considerable piano prowess, Jon Camp’s imaginative bass, Michael Dunford on guitar and Terence Sullivan on drums.

The work is unique because it represents a rare example of musical collaboration between Dunford and the rest of the group. Dunford and lyricist Betty Thatcher wrote the three vocal sections, keyboard player John Tout wrote the opening fanfare and fugue sections, with bass player Jon Camp working with Dunford and Tout on the other sections. The orchestrations were arranged by Tony Cox.

There are only four pieces on the album: “Trip To The Fair” is a heavenly 11-minute dreamscape. “The Vultures Fly High” is a short but very effective prog-rocker. “Ocean Gypsy” is a gorgeous song, and one of the band’s all-time classics. And then, of course, there’s the 25-minute, nine-part epic, “Song Of Scheherazade,” one of the highlights of rock history featuring the prog icon’s unique interpretation of the Scheherazade legend accompanied by the London Symphony Orchestra and a chorus. The classical tale is told about the Sultan and the magical woman, Scheherazade, who ultimately wins his heart.

Aficionados of classical music will also appreciate the album.

TRACKS:

2-The Vultures Fly High – 3:04
3-Ocean Gypsy – 7:05
4-Song of Scheherazade – 24:39
