Connecticut Cult Favorite Rock Ensemble The Neybas Release Fifth Album “Sunshine Hotel”

Connecticut rock band The Neybas (pronounced “nay-bahz”), a cult favorite in the northeast United States for decades, has just released their fifth album, “Sunshine Hotel.” The album’s collection of hook-laden songs spans multiple genres – from traditional and punkafunkadelic rock, to ska and reggae, seasoned with a dash of Caribbean, New Orleans and jam grooves. The lyrics provide snapshots of the people who work, meet, love – and stay – at the Sunshine Hotel.

The Neybas’ music is organic, energetic, and danceable, with good-vibes and echoes of the late 60s and early 70s. They have won multiple readers’ polls including “Best Original Music,” and “Best Live Performance,” among others. Over the years, the Neybas have played live with the Georgia Satellites, Joan Osborne, Great White, Felix Cavaliere of The Rascals, Ratt, Everything, Poison, Universal Honey, and Rick Derringer, to name a few.

Featuring original members Kevin “English” Bornstein (bass/vocals), Nicholas “Toad” Eckert (guitar/vocals), Russ “Skull” Waesche (guitar/vocals), and long-time drummer Emmet Hale, they added keyboardist and hometown “neybahood” friend Greg Marshall in 2019 to complete the outfit.

Partying, dancing, and rock n roll. That’s precisely what the Neybas provide.”  – MTV Online

During the pandemic, guitarist/singer/songwriter Russ Waesche wanted to hear new music that hearkened back to the good vibes of the hooky, upbeat rock and roll coming from radios in the early 70s. He wasn’t hearing any that fit that description, so decided to write his own.

The origins of the concept for “Sunshine Hotel” trace back to 2019, as the band was working on their previous album, “Flow.” Russ Waesche was looking for album cover images and came across a photo taken by a friend of the Sunshine Hotel, a flophouse in the Bowery section of NYC. While the photo wouldn’t work for “Flow’s” water theme, it gave Waesche the idea of a follow-up album that would have bright, upbeat grooves and themes. Two years of pandemic darkness later, it seemed increasingly timely.

Waesche and Richard Serviss, the photographer of the album’s cover photo, had bonded years earlier over Beat authors and poets, 1970’s NYC punk culture, photography, and a shared love of Lou Reed, among other things. One of the first songs penned for the album, the lead-off track “At the Sunshine Hotel,” gives a nod to Lou Reed by naming the characters Jack and Jane (remember Sweet Jane?).

During the lockdown, Waesche and fellow singer/guitarist Toad Eckert were both sidelined by injuries which made it too painful and difficult for either to play guitar. Waesche, who lost significant use of his right hand, found that not having a guitar in hand made writing songs nearly impossible. After a full year of medical adventure and physical therapy, the use of Waesche’s hand came back, and so did the songs. Eckert also recovered, and the band began playing again.

Starting in June 2021, Waesche demoed songs for producer John Bolduc, who liked what he heard, and the work began on honing and arranging the songs.  Recording commenced at Bolduc’s Massiphonic Studios in Connecticut at the beginning of 2022, after being postponed by the death of Waesche’s father, followed by a COVID variant surge in which multiple band members had to quarantine. The band recorded all the tracks between January and March, with guest percussionist Alex Giosa, (currently one of the drummers for the Broadway version of “Hamilton”) adding the final touches during the first week of April 2022.

The band is currently storyboarding videos for select songs from “Sunshine Hotel,” and playing select gigs in the northeast.

The Guitar Circle With Robert Fripp August 22-26, 2022 at The Mansion at Glen Cove, NY

For Immediate Release

The Guitar Circle With Robert Fripp August 22-26, 2022 at The Mansion at Glen Cove, NY

Four Immersive Days of Work in the Guitar Circle. Guitar & Audience Craft Techniques and Exercises for Audients and Guitarists.

An Introduction to the Guitar Circle with Robert Fripp will begin at 3pm on August 22nd, 2022, and ends at 12pm on August 26th, 2022.

Each day’s schedule is intense, beginning in the early morning and running through to the night with activities in small and large groups. The exact detailed schedule will be decided at the course itself, responding to the needs of the group.

House of Guitars: everyone welcome to join, with or without guitars (led by RF)

During Robert Fripp’s Introduction to the Guitar Circle, nothing is compulsory but some things are necessary. Robert feels strongly that alcohol and drug use are incompatible with this work and are strongly discouraged. Hey, the anticipated polyrhythms* alone are enough to deter anyone from even thinking about drinking! So, any participant who partakes in drugs or alcohol during the event may be asked to forego participating in our activities. Thank you for your cooperation.

*Polyrhythms: The simultaneous combination of contrasting rhythms in a musical composition. Rhythmic conflicts, or cross-rhythms, may occur within a single metre (e.g., two eighth notes against triplet eighths or worse!) and may even be reinforced by simultaneous combinations of conflicting metres. You will happily experience some of these during Robert’s event!

The Guitar Circle welcomes players and audients of all ages and levels of experience, from absolute beginners to professionals.

The art of craft is universal. The artful craft of Guitar Craft is also specific.

Guitar Craft is a way of developing a relationship with guitar, music, and with ourselves. Guitar and Audience Craft techniques and exercises provide a foundation for taking the performance event to a higher level.

The Guitar Circle is a way of working which strengthens community. We also rock out!

If performing music is to enter our world, the role of the audience is as necessary as the role of the musician.

So, for the first time in the life of Guitar Craft and the Guitar Circle, we are inviting audients to this Intro, to learn the performance techniques and approaches available to Crafty Guitarists.

Performing music has its own intelligence, but can music change the world? If so, how? How does a musician become present in the place within them where music lives, or visits for a while? How is an audient present within themself when music visits? How does music come into our lives? What is involved in the process of musical performance?

For those interested in guitar playing, work will be on acoustic guitars in the New Standard Tuning – CGDAEG. Guitar meetings / workshops will be in groups of all sizes, including individual meetings with the Guitar Buddies.

This Introduction to the work of the Guitar Circle will also include classes in Alexander Technique, Orchestral Maneuvers, T’ai Chi, Zen meditation, The Process Of Performance, and Doing Nothing – As Much As You Can!

There is nothing solemn about any of this, and I’m intending to have a good time. This is an approach to perform, performing, serious performing and performing seriously.

I recommend that everyone come with an aim.

You are invited.

World’s Largest Prog Rock Supergroup THE PROG COLLECTIVE Revisit Folk & Rock Masterpieces On New Album SONGS WE WERE TAUGHT, Release First Single!

For Immediate Release

World’s Largest Prog Rock Supergroup THE PROG COLLECTIVE Revisit Folk & Rock Masterpieces On New Album SONGS WE WERE TAUGHT, Release First Single!

Album features performances by David Clayton-Thomas (Blood Sweat & Tears), Rod Argent (The Zombies), Sonja Kristina (Curved Air), Candice Night (Blackmore’s Night), Dweezil Zappa, Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal (Guns N’ Roses/Asia), Steve Morse (Deep Purple/Dixie Dregs), Martin Barre (Jethro Tull), Steve Hillage (Gong) and more!

Los Angeles, CA – Producer Billy Sherwood has helmed the massive prog rock supergroup The Prog Collective through an astonishing 10 years and 3 studio albums with an ever-evolving cast of 50+ elite-level musicians, vocalists, and creative minds. Through it all, one thing has remained constant: the project has always brought some of the most innovative musical arrangements, unique performances and cutting-edge production techniques, all in service of creating the most engaging, enthralling listening experience to the listener. The same holds true for the band’s newest effort, the gorgeous and sublime Songs We Were Taught.

As the title suggests, Sherwood and his cohort travel back in time to revisit some of the most formative and influential songs of the ‘60s & ‘70s. From Bob Dylan’s massively important “The Times They Are A-Changin’” to Simon & Garfunkel’s unforgettable classic “Sound Of Silence” to the folk standard-turned-chart-topping-rock-dirge “House Of The Rising Sun,” the compositions included here are not ones that would immediately be associated with the kind of progressive /art-rock players featured on Prog Collective albums. But just one listen to the astonishing musicianship Wishbone Ash’s Martin Turner and electric violinist Jerry Goodman bring to Dylan’s song or the mix of soul and atmosphere that David Clayton-Thomas and Steve Hillage add to “House Of The Rising Sun” and you’ll know why this album exists. Thankfully, the band has released “House Of The Rising Sun” as the album’s first single!

Watch Kansas Legend Robby Steinhardt’s Video For “Not in Kansas Anymore”

Just released! Kansas legend Robby Steinhardt’s video for “Not in Kansas Anymore” from the critically acclaimed album of the same name. Produced by Michael Franklin, the album was released on Solar Music just after the unexpected passing of Steinhardt.

Watch the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-Xj-bzCqk8

You know him as the legendary violinist, vocalist and frontman for the band KANSAS, recording 9 albums which reached gold, platinum and double platinum status, and is now making another mark on the world with his first and only solo album.

“Not in Kansas Anymore” is a powerful, well-thought-out offering of Prog Rock magic. Timely songs with incredible arrangements and virtuoso performances. Robby’s vocals and signature electric violin come through on this continuous work labeled a “Prog Opera.”

The album “Not in Kansas Anymore” grew out of the Jon Anderson “1000 Hands” sessions. Robby was a special guest on the song “Active.” He put down several violin tracks on that song and also a song Michael was working on with drum legend Billy Cobham. That song led to the making of “Not in Kansas Anymore.”

The art direction and video work was done by Alvaro Ortega, a gifted animator from Madrid Spain. Alvaro has received worldwide notice from his Beatle and British Invasion animations. Most recently his collaboration with producer Michael Franklin’s “A Day in His Life,” a highly acclaimed tribute to John Lennon. This work went viral and given high praise by Sir George Martin’s son https://www.facebook.com/michael.franklin.1610/videos/10222238735251109. Art work in the video was based off of the album art by Tom Lupo, nominated “Album Cover of the Year” by ProgReport.

Symphonic Rock Legends Renaissance Featuring Annie Haslam To Launch The Legacy Fall Tour 2022

A celebration of Annie Haslam’s 75th year. Classic Renaissance with the Renaissance Chamber Orchestra and music from Annie’s solo career.

This Fall Renaissance will be back on tour with a string of dates culminating at Town Hall, NYC on October 29. The band, which celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2019, is widely recognized for its integration of rock and classical music, the use of a full symphony orchestra, and the 5-octave voice of lead singer Annie Haslam.

Renaissance secured its place on the world stage with a top ten hit “Northern Lights” and performed at some of the world’s most prestigious venues including the Royal Albert Hall in London and Carnegie Hall in New York each with full orchestra ‘live’ on stage. An album release from one of the Carnegie Hall concerts is considered a staple among fans of symphonic rock to this day.

As its title suggests, the tour this year will highlight the career of Annie Haslam in celebration of her 75th birthday this June. Six of the shows will include the Renaissance Chamber Orchestra, comprised of ten hand picked orchestral musicians, that made its debut with Renaissance in 2017.

The band and orchestra will be playing a unique line up of selections that will include Annie Haslam’s favorite Renaissance classics alongside favorites from her many solo recordings. Much of the music from these shows will be performed for the first time with orchestral arrangements. The group plans to release a double CD in 2023 from recordings captured during the tour.

This Jon Anderson with The Paul Green Rock Academy tour is a resumption of the tradition started in 2005 when Jon toured with Paul Green’s original School of Rock all stars.

These early shows, over 30 in total between 2006-2008, were nothing short of magical, and now Jon Anderson returns to continue that magic with a set of Yes Classics, deep cuts, mash ups, and solo works, all with lush arrangements featuring choral singing, horns, and all the other benefits of having a backing band with 25 young musicians.

Says Paul Green, “Having done a few of these songs in the past with Jon and my students, I couldn’t wait to add them to the current show. Once we did ‘Close to the Edge’ and ‘And You and I’ on our Florida run in April, I was reminded of the magic of hearing these songs recreated by young musicians…They really capture the frenetic energy of the original recordings. Then when I heard it was the 50th anniversary of the album I just knew we had to do the whole thing. Jon agreed.”

There are so many wonderful moments in my musical life, and being on stage with these young teenagers performing Classic Yes songs, makes me so happy and proud …..

It’s a marvel and a tremendous pleasure for me..

They are a joy to be with and so much fun!!!

I am grateful, thankful and feel very blessed to be able to sing along with them.
Janee and I love them all
Love and light… Jon Anderson

Jon Anderson is undoubtedly one of the most recognizable voices in music as the lead vocalist and creative force behind YES. Anderson was the author and a major creative influence behind the ground-breaking album “Fragile” as well as the series of epic, complex pieces such as “Awaken,” “Gates of Delirium” and especially “Close to the Edge” which were central to the band’s success. Additionally, Anderson co-authored the group’s biggest hits, including “I’ve Seen All Good People,” “Roundabout” and “Owner Of A Lonely Heart.” After 50 years of success in the music business, Jon has worked with many variations of YES, as well as collaborations with Vangelis, Kitaro, Roine Stolt and Jean-Luc Ponty. He has released several critically acclaimed solo albums including “Olias of Sunhillow,” “Song of Seven,” “Animation,” “Three Ships,” “Toltec” and “Survival and Other Stories” to name just a few. In 2017 Jon reformed YES with former band members Trevor Rabin and Rick Wakeman. YES Featuring ARW toured the world to rave reviews and released “Live At The Apollo” CD/DVD in September 2018. Never to stand still musically, in 2019 Jon released an album he started 28 years ago, now called “1,000 Hands,” a reference to the fact that numerous guest musicians perform on the album, including Ian Anderson, Billy Cobham, Jean-Luc Ponty, Chick Corea, Zap Momma, Chris Squire, Alan White, Steve Howe and many more.

The Pandemic Dam Breaks for Prolific Bassist & Composer Steve Horowitz Releases Two Albums of New and Exciting Music!

Composer of the original score to the Academy Award Nominated film “Super Size Me” Steve Horowitz releases “Old Monsters Trio” and “Mr. E”

A creator of odd but highly accessible sounds and a diverse and prolific musician, Steve Horowitz is perhaps best known for his original Score to the Academy Award Nominated film “Super Size Me.” The artist behind Twenty Nine albums of mind bending original music, a Grammy, Webby and Kid Screen award winning composer producer, he currently resides in San Francisco.

Steve is now releasing two new albums “Old Monsters Trio” and “Mr. E”

Old Monsters Trio”

“Old Monsters Trio” is an album featuring Jim Bove on drums, Scott Looney on piano and features the compositions and bass playing of Steve Horowitz. Recorded January of 2022 at studio 43 in SF.

The band New Monsters recorded three albums, the first one featuring the music of Dan Plonsey. The second album recorded live at studio 55 in San Rafael, and the third album “Point Cloud.”

For this album Steve reached back into his substantial back catalog of twenty-nine albums from different periods in his career and brought them to the band to recompose, rearrange and reimagine. The theme of this recording is transformation, where old becomes new again.

Let me explain…

The opening piece “Happy Eating Theme” is a reimagining of the theme from the academy award nominated indie hit documentary film “Super Size Me.” The second track “Aesthetic Nourishment’” is a trio version of a chamber piece written for the Red Desert Ensemble. “I Am No Ordinary Mortal,” the third cut, is a re-examination of a tune that was written for the television show “I Bet You Will” which ran on MTV. The fourth cut “Quasi-Eternity” is a re-orchestration of a graphic score from the 1990’s called “Party Of Four,” originally released on Steve’s third album San Francisco chronicled. “Bad Taste For High culture” the fourth cut on the album, is taken from a tune that Steve wrote in high school, a simple angular melody that he gave to Scott and he put new chords and new harmony to it. Number five “Strength Through Embarrassment” is another early 90s graphic score. “Wild Man The Throne God” is another tune from I Bet You Will, and the last piece on the album “The Expendable Man” is a trio exploration of concert music written for string quartet and trumpet.

And for the very first time, Steve is experimenting with releasing this album in a brand new way, in three different flavors. The first is the Deluxe Blend (Green) which features all the tracks and switches back and forth between monk-esq jazz and abstract contemporary compositions. The Jazzy Blend (Purple) features only the four jazzy cuts in an EP format. And the Abstract Blend (Orange) features only the contemporary compositions in EP format. Now listeners can experience the music from different angles and different points of view and listen based on taste and preference. Some people will only like the jazz stuff and some people will only like the abstract weird stuff and others will love them mixed together in a strange funky brew.

The album covers feature the artwork of Joseph Guillette also known as JTA, the amazing artist who has worked with Steve on most of his album covers since they met in early 2000s working together with Morgan’s Spurlock on “I Bet You Will” and “Super Size Me.”

Mr. E”

The album “Mr. E,” recorded at the same time was made in homage to the amazing percussionist drummer madman and visionary Michael Evans who passed away tragically last year. The album features Michael’s voice from a phone machine message and several interviews mixed together into one twenty-two minute composition. The track features Steve Horowitz on bass Jim Bovy on drums Scott Looney on piano and Michael Evans spoken word.

The cover artwork is by Michael Evans. In the latter parts of his life Michael was working in visual art and multimedia and this piece featuring a log cabin, witch hat and other multimedia elements serves as the cover. “Mr. E” the title, refers to Mr. Evans and also to the mystery of life and the tragedy and mystery of his sudden death. The music features heavy use of percussion improvisation and music concrete to create a pastiche of wanton musical madness that is rich and satisfying to listen to.

All the album titles are in homage to the amazing percussionist drummer mad man and visionary Michael Evans who passed away tragically and suddenly last year. The names come from a phone machine message that was left by Mr Evans and all the profits from the sale of this album will go to the Michael Evans memorial fund at Roulette in NYC. Next Release is an album of Steve’s chamber music for the Red Desert Ensemble. Titled “Side Scroller,” it will be released worldwide in August 2022
