GONG RETURN WITH NEW SINGLE ‘STARS IN HEAVEN’ + NEW MUSIC VIDEO

NEW ALBUM BRIGHT SPIRIT COMING IN 2026

Legendary psych outfit Gong are back today their new single ‘Stars In Heaven’ alongside a brand new music video created by Drain Hope. The band have also teased the release of their new album which fans will see in 2026 and shared the album’s name – Bright Spirit.

“It’s such an eclectic record,” says singer and guitarist Kavus Torabi. “This is the most colourful and kaleidoscopic album so far from this incarnation of the band. There are Eastern-infused epics, long instrumental jazz-inspired sections, meditative and cosmic detours and blistering, incendiary psychedelic rock. When picking the first song to be released, it has felt as if there’s an extra weight on the choice, as if the song somehow has to represent the whole album.”

WATCH THE NEW VIDEO FOR ‘STARS IN HEAVEN’, CREATED BY DRAIN HOPE

Lyrically it expands on the idea that the world is as you are. “If you are a cynical, defensive or suspicious person, then that’s the world you’ll inhabit,” continues Kavus. “You’ll see mean-spirited behaviour and selfishness all around you but it’s always a choice. I think perhaps some people forget that. That’s not the world I live in, nor would I want to. It’s a sad old world for sure but it’s also a beautiful one bursting with hope, possibility, wonder and magic in every single moment.”

Billy Yfantis Celebrates a Decade of Cosmic Soundscapes with the Album “2015–2025 The First Years in Space”

For Immediate Release

Billy Yfantis Celebrates a Decade of Cosmic Soundscapes with the Album2015–2025 The First Years in Space”

Experimental electronic composer Billy Yfantis proudly presents his new double-length anthology album, “2015–2025 The First Years in Space.” Spanning a full decade of sonic experimentation, this 30-track release represents Yfantis’ artistic evolution through ambient, electronic, and noise-based soundscapes inspired by the mysteries of the cosmos.

The album compiles highlights from Yfantis’ previous releases along with nine previously unreleased compositions, forming a complete chronicle of his creative journey across the past ten years. Each piece reveals a unique approach to sound design, mixing music technology with conceptual art and a fascination for scientific exploration.

Among the most distinctive pieces:
• “The Electric Drill Session” features real sounds of an electric drill, turned into rhythmic, industrial elements that blur the boundaries between man-made tools and music.
• “Landing” incorporates authentic NASA spaceship sounds, carefully edited and arranged to recreate the sensation of landing onto an unknown planet.
• “Dust Not Found” includes real vacuum cleaner recordings, turning the chaos into an experimental metaphor for the emptiness and silence of space.

Other highlights include the meditative “Ionosphere Reverie,” the expansive “Cosmic Noise” and “Planetary Noise,” and “The Universe Collapses (Live at Norcal Noisefest 2022),” a 15-minute improvisational performance recorded at one of the world’s leading experimental music festivals.

“I am pleased to present you my compilation which is a fair synopsis of my recordings (8 full albums and 5 singles) between 2015 and 2025. This is a reference point on the evolution of my music.”— Billy Yfantis

The second part of the album introduces nine previously unreleased tracks, including “The Journey,” “Dreaming Among Planets,” and “Behind the Eye of the Universe,” which explore new territories of analog synthesis, lo-fi atmospheres, and ambient acid tones.

Billy has been working on music since the late 1990s by experimenting with tape mixing and sound design. New Album of Unreleased Demos by THE IVEYS, ‘Miniskirts And Rainbows’ To Be Released Nov. 28, 2025 on Y&T Music

For Immediate Release

New Album of Unreleased Demos by THE IVEYS,Miniskirts And RainbowsTo Be Released Nov. 28, 2025 on Y&T Music

Y&T Music is proud to announce the release of a previously unreleased album by THE IVEYS, Miniskirts And Rainbows. The album, which features 19 rare demos, recorded between 1966 and 1969, will be released on CD and all streaming services on November 28, 2025. There will also be a strictly limited edition 17-track vinyl pressing of 300 copies.

There were a few major developments since the last Iveys release, titled, How Much Is The Sky. The release of Pete Ham’s Acoustic album was the follow-up release to Y&T Music’s Gwent Gardens, which has sold out, and Badfinger’s long lost final album recorded with Pete Ham, Head First, was remixed from the original multi-tracks and issued on both CD and vinyl as a special 50th Anniversary edition.

Badfinger archivist & historian Tom Brennan has been compiling and editing this new collection of rare & interesting demos since 2024, and mastering engineer & Badfinger historian Kevin McElligott has been cleaning up the recordings during the past year for public consumption.

The CD edition of Miniskirts And Rainbows includes 19 tracks by The Iveys recorded between 1966 and 1969, of which, only 1 has ever been heard by serious collectors in the versions that appear here. The album contains 6 titles that are alternate versions of tracks by The Iveys or Badfinger that have been previously released, and 10 titles that either collectors or the public have never heard of before. Three of these are solo demos by Mike Gibbins, and two by bassist, Ron Griffiths.

The theme of this Iveys Volume 5 Anthology collection is based on the song “Black & White Rainbows” which makes reference to a purple miniskirt in addition to its title. Of course, we also have the opening and closing tracks which have the word “miniskirt” in their titles.

For the first time, two songs written or co-written by Bill Collins, who was considered as the unofficial 5th member of the group, are included on an Iveys release.  The first is a co-write with guitarist Tom Evans, called “Good Boy”, from the time in late Summer of 1967 when he had just joined the group. The second song which was entirely written by Collins for Apple artist Mary Hopkin in November 1969, was a song called “All The Fun Of The Fair.” On the demo produced by Tom Evans, Pete Ham sang the lead vocal.

In 1969, tape dubs of 6 Iveys demos were sent to both Paul McCartney and Rolling Stones’ manager Andrew Loog Oldham to get their opinions for which songs they should record for a follow-up single to “Maybe Tomorrow.” The last of these to be issued, The Iveys’ own version of “Blodwyn” appears here.

FORMER GENERATION X GUITARIST DERWOOD ANDREWS LAUNCHES MOONDOG INSPIRED PROJECT SHAGBARN

FORMER GENERATION X GUITARIST DERWOOD ANDREWS LAUNCHES MOONDOG INSPIRED PROJECT SHAGBARN

RELEASES “SOLID GOLD TIMEPIECE” THROUGH DEKO ENTERTAINMENT AND HOSTS LIVE ONLINE LISTENING PARTY FRIDAY OCTOBER 24TH

Stockton, NJ – Derwood Andrews has traversed a unique world of music. He is a guitarist hailed for his sound in Generation X, Westworld, Empire, and Speedtwinn. Though the multi-faceted musician that is Derwood shows himself more when you become familiar with his projects like Shagbarn or Moondogg, a duo with Westworld vocalist Elizabeth Westwood. The experimental-drum and bass-rock duo got its name from Louis Hardin (a.k.a. Moondog) himself. Derwood and the Dog had a chance to chat it up backstage at a concert in London during the 1990s. Hardin let him name the group Moondogg, as long as there was an extra G.

So now the story continues with Solid Gold Timepiece from Shagbarn which is comprised of Andrews and Moondog devotee Julian Calv. Andrews explains, “I posted a photo on Instagram, a picture of me and Moondog backstage at one of his shows and someone (Julian) commented on the photo posted, and later shared he was a Moondog devotee. I played Moondog Speaks to him and he sent me a track he had recently made called Stride. I really loved it. I added guitars and sent it back with a message: ‘We should make an album…’ Julian Calv then sent me nine fresh Trimba backing tracks. I just listened for hours until the music and song titles presented themselves. Months of fine tuning and experimenting ensued, along with guest performances from neighbors and friends.”

Julian Calv considers himself a composer first. The trimbist and singer was a student of Stefan Lakatos, Louis Hardin’s sole trimba protege, and similarly is Lakatos’ sole protege. He is one of a few musicians who commonly perform the music of Hardin, which heavily influences his music. Calv says, “Shagbarn is a cathartic experience I have been waiting for. Much of the music I perform is composed and I follow the composition, but I have such a passion for improvising and reacting in real time to all sounds. Solid Gold Timepiece created the space for me to do just that. It started with my trimba beat, then Derwood would add an instrument, then I would, he’d record a friend, I’d record a friend, and we kept going until we knew it was done.”

Recorded by Derwood Andrews at RubberCheese Studios California, David Kenyon in Vermont and Devlin Thorn at Fireside Sound in Joshua Tree California, Solid Gold Timepiece is a varied collection of music including stand out tracks “Moonface Raindogs”, “All the Brave Souls”, and first single “I’m on my way to a Better Place”. Shagbarn will kick things off this Friday October 24th with a live on-line listening party hosted on Volume.com.

Trey Gunn
A native Texan who resides in New Mexico, Gunn is known for the unusual 10-string touch guitar that he plays. From the blistering live recordings at the Royal Albert Hall in London with David Sylvian and Robert Fripp (“Damage”, Virgin Records) to ten years recording and touring with King Crimson – a group many contend as the most aggressively adventurous rock band of all time – Gunn is associated with a constant stream of cutting-edge projects.

In addition to the powerful performances and recordings of his groups Tu-Ner, KTU, 3Below, The Security Project and the multi-media Quodia, Gunn has toured and/or recorded with John Paul Jones, Brian Eno, Maynard J. Keenan’s “Puscifer”, Vernon Reid, Azam Ali, David Hykes of the Harmonic Choir and Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree.

When not on the road, Gunn continues his work scoring for TV/film, runs his own media label (7d Media) and coaches musicians in the creative process.

David Forlano
David Forlano is a multi-disciplinary performance and visual artist. His commissioned sound design supported dance and theater throughout the 90’s in Philadelphia. He was often found teaming with percussionist Toshi Makihara on many performances as well as their own collaborations in free improvisation. After relocating to Santa Fe in 2005 he took a 10-year break from all performance and sound work. David is currently renewing his passion for collaboration in performance and sound. He currently holds regular sessions in his studio with local musicians and performs in a variety of ensembles.

David is one of the cofounders of sandboxmusic.org, a monthly series presenting new creative music to the Santa Fe area. The series is dedicated to providing a forum for music that utilizes creative new techniques, ranging from electronic, experimental acoustic, new jazz, modern classical, and more. Experimental Jazz Guitarist Ian Smit to Release New Album “¿QUÉ?” Feat. David Torn, Tom Rainey, and Scott Petito

For Immediate Release

Experimental Jazz Guitarist Ian Smit to Release New Album ¿QUÉ? Feat. David Torn, Tom Rainey, and Scott Petito

Experimental jazz guitarist Ian Smit announces that he will release his new album ¿QUÉ? on December 5, 2025. The album features Scott Petito on acoustic/electric bass and as recording engineer, Tom Rainey on drums, Ian Smit on electric/acoustic guitar/effects, and David Torn on electric/national steel guitar/effects.

Smit’s purpose for making music with David, Tom and Scott was to be conversational with lots of dynamic ups and downs, which is very natural to all of them. That was the only stated “instruction” before getting into the studio. This recording is fully improvised. The tracks “Bee Still” and “Raindrops and Waterspouts” began as loose harmonic structures that Smit presented to the band. Everything else was created in the moment with no discussion prior to the red light going on.

When playing music that isn’t formally composed, the goal was to create spontaneous compositions through musical dialog and interactions between the players, whether by use of melody, groove, sound interventions, or even through silence. Not everyone needed to be “speaking” to make a point.

Ian Smit has known David Torn for decades. David produced his first professional recording called Ping with Peter Biedermann and Steve Meltzer, as Steve introduced Smit to David way back when, and they recorded at Scott Petito’s first studio in 1987. Both David and Scott played on that which was only released on cassette.

Smit reacquainted with Scott Petito after many years through a recording session with a friend, where Scott was the mixing/mastering engineer. Smit was blown away at the vibe in the studio, and that planted the seed to create this unique recording. At that moment, Scott was destined to play bass and record ¿QUÉ?.

After hearing and seeing Tom Rainey perform with David Torn over the years, Smit decided he was the perfect drummer for this session, as he is so expressive and interactive. Says Smit, “Tom was definitely number one on the list. This recording would not have come to fruition if Tom wasn’t available.”

¿QUÉ? was recorded with David, Tom and Smit in the same room, with only gobo panels between them to intentionally generate feedback when needed. Scott meanwhile was in a separate room, as he played acoustic bass on several tracks and electric on others.

David played national steel as well as guitar for this recording (his oud was under the weather). When Smit played acoustic, or David played the national steel, they were in a separate room. When either of them played acoustically, the other played electrically. In the stereo spectrum, Smit’s guitar is on the left with a sometimes-utilized effects amp almost in the middle, and David is on the right.

Says Smit, “It was the first time Tom and Scott ever played together, but their interactions were inspiring. Scott hadn’t played with David in a very long time, and even though Scott and David played on that 1987 recording of mine, they overdubbed. I, on the other hand, never played with any of the fellas. Was all that risky? Evidently not…I was riding on a rocket ship!”

Ian Smit:

Ian Smit is a composer, guitarist, melodist, noise maker. As a self-proclaimed “closeted folkie” he plays within no particular genre as he grew up exposed to so many styles of music and influences from all over the world, all of which passed through the “Smit Filter” to emerge in his own personal voice.

He decided early on that he would rather work a day job than play music that would make him view playing music as a job…a sentiment initially shared by David Torn who obviously carved a career as an influential musician…”It all comes down to choices!”

Still, Smit has managed to create art for many decades starting with Ping in 1987 produced by David Torn, recorded at Scott Petito’s studio.

David Torn:

David Torn (aka “splattercell”) is a composer, texturalist, guitarist, producer & whatnot of actual international stature, renowned for his unique musical voice which seems to span & un-define a range of idioms and styles.

His characterful & compositionally textural work has had material impact & influence on both film scoring — through his own scores, in addition to his creative contributions to scores by Carter Burwell, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Cliff Martinez, Howard Shore, Mark Isham, and others — and, generally, upon contemporary electric, electro-acoustic & electronic music.

In addition to the medium of film scoring, David’s creative contributions have graced & assisted the works of other musical artists-of-note as diverse as David Bowie, k.d. lang, Tim Berne, John Legend, Madonna, Tori Amos, Bill Bruford, Tony Levin, Mick Karn, David Sylvian, Chocolate Genius, Michael Shrieve, Steve Roach, Patrick O’Hearn, Matt Chamberlain, Meshell Ndegeocello and Don Cherry.

The New York Times described Torn’s 2015 solo release, Only Sky, as “[an abstract landscape that is] both immersive and deftly disorienting.” He continues to work with Tim Berne and Ches Smith, Sun of Goldfinger.

David Torn has a Bandcamp release earning a 5 star review in Downbeat’s Solo section by Jim Macnie called: peace upon you.

In closing, Ian Smit has this to say:

“Play because you love it, and maybe good things might come your way if you’re lucky enough to see and latch on to them, like playing with a bunch of truly exceptional ringer nice guys like David, Tom and Scott!”
