NINE MILE STATION Featuring WILL HAWKINS & FERNANDO PERDOMO To Release New Self-Titled Album July 21, 2023

Mixed by multi-grammy award-winning producer AL SCHMITT, Engineered by grammy-award winning Niko Bolas

Spirit of Unicorn Music are delighted to announce the release of a brand new album from Nine Mile Station, featuring Will Hawkins (WILL HAWKINS solo) and Fernando Perdomo (ECHO IN THE CANYON, FERN & CELLI, MARSHALL CRENSHAW).

The self-titled album features 11 original cuts of modern Americana, with influences as diverse as Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac, Bruce Springsteen, Wilco, Nick Cave, Neil Young and Bob Dylan.

Hawkins, who released two solo albums in the 2000’s, first came up with the concept for the band in 2019 whilst nursing his gravely ill mother, seeing the therapeutic effects his music had on her.  After her passing, Hawkins began writing songs of hope and optimism and vowed to make his Nine Mile Station concept a reality.

Hawkins first came across Perdomo whilst watching the documentary Echo In The Canyon. Hawkins comments “Fernando just jumped off the screen. I couldn’t take my eyes off of him. His  sheer joy of playing was so apparent.” Through a mutual friend, the two connected and a few weeks later Perdomo joined the band.

Mid-January 2020 saw the new Nine Mile Station already writing together. When the Covid-19 pandemic hit in early Spring of that year, the next 18 months saw Hawkins and Perdomo locked in the studio carefully crafting new material which would eventually become this brand new album.

Perdomo adds, “I always wanted to be in a band like this. It’s a real band, with real membership, real teamwork. Will represented everything I wanted in a musical partner – he’s honest and committed and determined.” He continues, “Nine Mile Station feels like a perfect outlet for my Americana side. Will gives me the space to be who I am and throw in some elements which might not necessarily be considered Americana and so we can create a sound that’s all our own.”

The album has been described as having a lot of heart and warmth. Something which resonated with legendary multi grammy award-winning producer and sound engineer AL SCHMITT (Duke Ellington, Sam Cooke, Ray Charles, Elvis Presley, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Jefferson Airplane, Madonna).  Hawkins had previously worked alongside Schmitt as a studio assistant. Sending him copies of the Nile Mile Station recordings simply for comment, the band were amazed when Schmitt responded with such resounding positivity, he insisted on mixing the album. As it turned out, it was to be the very last project Schmitt would work on as he passed away on April 26th, 2021. Hawkins continues “As this was Al’s last project, it gives us an incredible responsibility to make sure that this record is heard. Even in the Winter of his life, he was producing amazing work. So this album is an important part of Al’s legacy.”

Al introduced the band to Grammy award winning mixer and engineer NIKO BOLAS (Toto, Prince, Melissa Etheridge). Hawkins comments, “Niko was a Godsend.  He really set the bar high for us and we welcomed the challenge and did everything we could to meet his expectations”.

A hard-working live band, Perdomo describes their work as “music designed to be played live”. Indeed, Coachella Valley Weekly recently described the band as delivering the best heartland rock music since Tom Petty’s Hard Promises, Steve Earl’s Guitar Town and Bruce Springsteen’s The River.

MVI (Mark Vickness Interconnected) To Release “In The Rain Shadow”

For Immediate Release

MVI (Mark Vickness Interconnected) To Release “In The Rain Shadow”

Following the release of “Places” in 2017 and “Interconnected” in 2020, composer/guitarist Mark Vickness announces the release of “In The Rain Shadow” with a newly expanded group, MVI (Mark Vickness Interconnected) comprising two time Grammy winning violinist, Mads Tolling, Matt Renzi on oboe/English horn and saxophone, cellist Joseph Hebert, Dan Feiszli on upright and electric bass and a percussion section featuring tabla virtuoso, Ty Burhoe and Grammy winning percussionist, MB Gordy in addition to Mark’s acoustic and electric guitars.

Says Mark, “Most of the music on ‘In The Rain Shadow’ takes its inspiration from moving to the high desert (California’s Owens Valley) in late 2020. We live literally in the rain shadow, which is a meteorological term meaning on the sheltered side of a mountain range where there is less precipitation because of the wind patterns. Most of the titles on this recording are taken from geological or meteorological features we experience daily. Composed throughout the years of the pandemic, the compositions on this album are, in some sense, a musical response to the isolation we all experienced as a result of the pandemic. They are also intended to reflect a new appreciation for the opportunity to absorb the wonders of living in the rain shadow. It is humbling, awesome, peaceful, thrilling, tranquil and beautiful.”

Featuring:
Mads Tolling, violin; Matt Renzi, oboe/English horn/sax; Joseph Hebert, cello; Dan Feiszli, bass; Ty Burhoe, tabla; MB Gordy, percussion; Mark Vickness, guitar

Says Mark, “This is my dream ensemble. Each musician is an accomplished soloist adept at many different types of music. They all bring an astounding breadth and depth of musical understanding and experience. There is almost no style of music we cannot draw from. From a classical trio to a jazz quartet, from funk to raga style improvisation, from interwoven counterpoint to rock power chords, from a fast Irish 12/8 romp to an ambient textural tapestry and more – these virtuoso players bring an infectious energy that is palpable on every track.”

Track list:
1. High Desert
2. The Gorge
3. Alluvial Fans
4. Stillness (for Will)
5. Roadrunner
6. Rupak (for Ty)
7. Cloud Shadows
8. On the Cliffs of Mohr
9. In The Rain Shadow

RELEASE DATE: May 15, 2023

In The Rain Shadow” – Album Credits:
All compositions by Mark Vickness. Co-produced by Mark Vickness and Dan Feiszli. “In The Rain Shadow” was recorded, engineered and mixed by Dan Feiszli at his studio in El Cerrito, CA and at 25th Street Recording in Oakland, CA. It was mastered by Adam Ayan at Gateway Mastering in Portland, ME. Video by Maximum Flavor Media, San Francisco, CA. Album cover painting by Brian Judd. CD design by Sara Glaser.

Setting the tone with intricately plucked guitar, and layered violin and oboe, as the composition expands with cello, bass and rippling tabla, we are totally hypnotized by Alluvial Fans. The brainchild of composer Mark Vickness, who also plays guitar on the dimensional track, Alluvial Fans is a transcendental piece that fuses cultures, rhythms and soundscapes from all over the planet. The composition amps up a third of the way through, generating a playful energy juxtaposed to the more immersive start. We love the return of the tabla as it ripples through the song bridging the production and adding cerebral dimensionality. There is an epic bass solo riff from Dan Feiszli two-thirds of the way through the track that truly has us in awe. We can definitely see the composition as the score to a great cinematic movie, and have been exploring the imaginative mind of Mark Vickness further by listening to his album, ‘Interconnected.’” – Karlismyunckle.com

The fingerstylist makes the most of this opportunity to showcase the limitless sounds and textures that can be achieved primarily with his custom Michael Greenfield steel-string guitars.” – Pat Moran, Acoustic Guitar (on Places)

“’Vickness’ acoustic compositions allow him to use his wonderful technique to convey atmospheric, emotional music that immediately draws attention. His stunning harmonics, perfect chord changes and ability to use the guitar as a percussion instrument are an amazing blend.” – Vintage Guitar Magazine

Mark Vickness has created something so special and timely. It’s such a hopeful album, packed with artistry and stirring, deeply personal pieces. “Interconnected” is not only the title of the album but the driving force it seems, the purpose and the reason. What better way to perform songs full of power and whimsy, melancholy and heart than with a real sense of togetherness. I love this album! A breath of desperately needed grace and sweetness . . . with a perfect balance of skill and passion . . . glorious harmony of guitar, cello, viola, bass and tabla. Brilliant!” – Samantha Simmonds-Romceros – NoHoArtsDistrict.com.

“In The Rain Shadow” is scheduled for release in May, 2023. The group is looking forward to touring in support of the new album release.

Prog Legends UK’s 10th Anniversary Release of “Curtain Call (2023 Remaster)” Concert Video

For Immediate Release

Prog Legends UK’s 10th Anniversary Release of “Curtain Call (2023 Remaster)” Concert Video

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Eddie Jobson has announced the first worldwide release of “Curtain Call (2023 Remaster)” by the legendary progressive-rock supergroup UK. Previously only available in Japan, this one-off 2013 reunion concert in Tokyo features UK founding members Eddie Jobson and the late, great John Wetton, along with new-generation virtuosos Alex Machacek and super-drummer Marco Minnemann, and captures the only ever live performance of both UK studio albums “UK” and “Danger Money” in their entirety.

Released on both Blu-ray and DVD in a single package, this rare concert footage has been fully remixed and remastered for worldwide release on May 19th.

UK were a British progressive rock supergroup originally active from 1977 to 1980. The band was founded by bass guitarist John Wetton and drummer Bill Bruford, formerly the rhythm section of King Crimson, along with former Roxy Music and Frank Zappa violinist/keyboardist/composer Eddie Jobson; guitarist Allan Holdsworth completed the original lineup. Bruford and Holdsworth left in 1978, and Bruford was replaced by drummer Terry Bozzio. Jobson, Wetton and Bozzio reformed UK for a world tour in 2012, with further Jobson-Wetton reunion tours extending through to 2015. Throughout their brief existence, UK’s music was characterised by skilled musicianship, complex harmony, odd time signatures, electric violin solos, and unusually varied synthesizer (Yamaha CS-80) sonorities. The band spans various genres ranging from progressive rock to jazz fusion.

Eclectic Pop Music Artist Anthony W Rogers Releases 5th Solo Album “High Five” On Limited 180 Gram Vinyl

For Immediate Release

Eclectic Pop Music Artist Anthony W Rogers Releases 5th Solo Album “High Five” On Limited 180 Gram Vinyl

Wildflow records and Independent Appalachian singer songwriter Anthony W Rogers announces the release of Rogers’ fifth solo album, “High Five.” Recorded again independently in the West Virginia hills, “High Five” features Rogers on a multitude of instruments and vocals on ten new original tracks with longtime collaborator multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Bart Lay, saxophonist Rich Norwood, percussionist Steve Heare as well as regular contributions from his two children Blake and Joe Rogers and family friend and Indian royalty, violinist Sajaad Bodine. Recorded over the past two years following up on the last 2021 release under the alternate name “babyflow – oblivious.”

“I just keep moving. This one is less of a group thing, more singular or personal, I guess.” says Rogers “I’ll probably get back to that a little more the next time out. Actually, I know so, we’ve already started”

In keeping with past Wildflow tradition, “High Five” is again very stylistically diverse and highlighted by the side one ending epic tale “Kensington” propelled by heartbeat like tom tom about a Western PA truck driver who escaped the addiction of life on the Philly streets only to be tragically lured back down again decades post recovery by thoughts of “that first time.” The middle of Side B contains the epic and tragic “Slava Ukraini” addressing the war waged upon its citizens and their once normal way of life-all for seemingly no purpose at all. An English translation of their national anthem – it is a shocking reminder as to how close we all are. “The springtime melts away the snow. So shall melt away the foe”

The other eight tracks run the gamut from the mission statement guitar-oriented pop opener “Whether You Get Me” to the reverb ghost laden dance with the spirits on “The Sky King of Georgetown.” Rogers says “I’ve tried to tone down the ratio of backgrounds to the leads and maybe bring them upfront a tad on this one. That will likely change on the next one. All of the songs on this one are equally important to me.”

“I limited the political to a Krautrock/Dinger/MES-The Fall like rant about the idiocy of this new right wing buzzword “woke.” Rogers says “They’re basically training you to be conquered. All time dumb dumb.” “Missed It” is a bird-like flighty jazzy almost scat-like vamp. Lyrically, it’s “at least partially about a ‘high school killer on a YouTube program,” says Rogers. Side A of “High Five” adds a slow spooky vibe with an icy ride through the cold seas on “Slow Boat Ride” chronicling a lifetime of mental struggles against the hopeless sea to the point is reached where right and wrong are not easily discerned. “Frog Eyes” is a “little quirky three part vignette about a French custom steel kitchen appliance maker’s waking dream about the futility and foolishness of him trying to manipulate the real world as he watches the tide turn away,” says Rogers. “Better to spend your time handling it as Michael Singer would say.”

“High Five” stops to celebrate the great state of “West Virginia” – particularly the eastern panhandle residents-the access (duck in duck out) and special relationship they have with the DMV. The album closer is the part delicate but part rocking “Not Waiting” – an almost Marvin Gaye “After The Dance”-ish styled album closer feel-wise. Lyrically, a small lament against the disrespect of waiting for anything, the track reiterates and projects the DIY themes expressed on “All Saints”.

“I really feel like we’ve made progress this time out. We seek to keep moving in that direction,” promises Rogers. “This is album number 5 and we’re obviously high on it”

In keeping with all Wildflow releases, “High Five” is available in limited edition vinyl of 250 and on all digital and streaming services.
