Rediscover UK Country Rock Legends Unicorn’s Seminal Third Album Produced by Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour With Its Reissue on CD & Vinyl

Enchanting British Folk-Rock and West Coast Vibes Return on May 12, 2023 courtesy of Think Like A Key Music

Unicorn’s captivating third album “Too Many Crooks,” produced by Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour, returns to delight fans and music aficionados alike with its reissue on CD and vinyl, set to release on May 12, 2023, through Think Like A Key Music. The album, originally released on EMI’s Harvest label in the UK and Capitol in the US, showcases the band’s unique blend of pastoral British folk-rock and evocative West Coast vibes.

The reissue invites listeners to immerse themselves in Ken Baker’s rich songwriting tapestry, woven together with Beatlesque melodies, tight performances, and a compelling sonic narrative. Tracks like the irresistible country-rock anthems “He’s Got Pride” and “In The Mood,” the funky groove of “Bullseye Bill,” and the tender, Big Star-esque title track effortlessly explore a diverse range of musical landscapes.

Although Unicorn’s proto-powerpop gem “Disco Dancer” did not achieve chart success, the haunting track “No Way Out Of Here” found a second life on David Gilmour’s debut album. This reissue is an essential piece of music history for any discerning music aficionado.

The album’s liner notes, written by Dave Disanzo, tell the story of Unicorn’s connection with David Gilmour, who not only produced the album but also played guitar on several tracks. “Too Many Crooks,” considered by many as Unicorn’s finest release, perfectly encapsulates the band’s brilliant songwriting, exquisite harmonies, masterful musicianship, and crystal-clear production.

The reissue includes rare session photos and lyrics, making it a must-have for fans and collectors. Don’t miss this opportunity to rediscover the enchanting sounds of Unicorn’s seminal third album.

UK Solo Artist TIM ARNOLD announces details about forthcoming studio album SUPER CONNECTED – A concept album about social media, big tech and mental health, which culminated in Arnold’s unexpected diagnosis of autism.

Produced by Arnold with additional production from Jethro Tull bassist Jonathan Noyce, the album spans an elective mix of genres, and includes a vocal cameo from actor Stephen Fry on Track 6 “A Commercial Break”.

Released on May 5th 2023, Super Connected lifts a magnifying glass up to the technology vs. humanity debate. Similar to the theatrical style of his 2015 album The Soho Hobo (BBC Radio London Album Of The Year), Arnold wrote Super Connected ‘in character’. Each song is sung from the perspective of different people, each with a unique mental disorder. Five years into the project, Arnold was unexpectedly diagnosed with his own real-life disorder, Autism.

New Book TALES FROM THE GUTTER – Mike Corcione’s Wild Adventures with Mötley Crüe, Ratt, Twisted Sister, Danger Danger, Iron Maiden, L.A. Guns and More!

Mike Corcione is a rabid music fan who lived his dream of making it in the music industry through a whirlwind rock and roll career beginning in the late 1970s through the 1980s. Starting his professional life in music as a nightclub DJ in 1978 working for wiseguys in clubs on Long Island, Tales From the Gutter follows Mike as he ascends the ladder of working in music at thrash metal record labels and import record distributors, leading an underground cult-favorite New York City sleaze metal band, Sweet Pain, tour managing for the platinum selling heavy metal band, L.A. Guns, promoting rock and roll nightclubs, and DJing at Peter Gatien’s infamous Club Kid hangout, the Limelight, in an era of legally drinking at 18, no-photo driver’s licenses, and the pre-crack and pre-AIDS New York City.

Raised in an environment of old world Italian values with the infamous Lucchese wiseguys featured in Martin Scorcese’s Goodfellas, it was ultimately music that gave Mike his purpose. This is a story of passion, hard work, and making your dreams come true, with lots of rock and roll debauchery on the side. Follow Mike and his friends in TALES FROM THE GUTTER on their wild adventures with Mötley Crüe, Ratt, Twisted Sister, Danger Danger, Iron Maiden, L.A. Guns, and more, while gaining fascinating insight into a bygone era when the music industry was at the height of its powers.

Folk/Americana Trio The Refugees to Release CALIFORNIA, an Homage to Harmony-Focused California Bands of the 60s & 70s on May 19th, 2023

For Immediate Release

Folk/Americana Trio The Refugees to Release CALIFORNIA, an Homage to Harmony-Focused California Bands of the 60s & 70s on May 19th, 2023

It’s a beautiful record!  And a brilliant idea. Load up the woody with surfboards and head for the waves! This record makes me want to be a Beach Boy!– Stewart Copeland

The trio of artists that is The Refugees emerged on the music scene as a verifiably unmatched force of talent, diversity, and experience. Each successful in their own right as a solo artist, Cidny Bullens, Deborah Holland and Wendy Waldman formed their unique and innovative group in 2007 and since that time have been wowing audiences, radio DJs, and music critics alike with their soaring harmonies, indelible musicianship, and unforgettably humorous stage presence.

Individually, The Refugees have logged almost five decades in the industry, with more than twenty solo albums and multiple Grammy Award nominations to their credit, featuring musical styles that blend country, rock, folk, blues and Americana. To describe them as eclectic would be an understatement. These three artists have utilized their intense drive and relentless passions to create an entirely new sound.

Their newest album, CALIFORNIA, ten cover songs of iconic, harmony-focused California bands of the 60s and 70s will be released on May 19th, 2023. One of the strongest components of The Refugees is their 3-part vocals. Cidny had suggested The Refugees record an album of some of the bands that featured 3-part harmonies and were a big influence on all three members. The band combed through many songs and finally narrowed it down to this list. These recordings are a tribute to, and, The Refugees own unique take on, classic recordings by The Beach Boys (“Good Vibrations,” “Sail On Sailor”), The Mamas and the Papas (“Monday Monday,” “Dedicated to the One I Love”), Crosby, Stills, and Nash (“You Don’t Have To Cry,” “Carry On,”), The Byrds (“So You Want To Be a Rock and Roll Star”), Sly and the Family Stone (“Stand”), The Flying Burrito Brothers (“Sin City”) and Buffalo Springfield (“For What It’s Worth”). Of course, The Refugees put their own unique stamp on each track, making CALIFORNIA not only a celebration of what was, but a revelation of the power these songs still hold today.

Cidny Bullens (formerly Cindy) got started as a studio back-up singer for Bob Crewe and then toured with Elton John. Cindy garnered two Grammy Award nominations for her work on the Grease Movie Soundtrack and her own album Desire Wire, has had several Nashville co-writes on the Country charts, scored the Award-winning documentary Space Between Breaths, and wrote the musical Islands which appeared on Broadway as a special tribute after 9/11. Cindy’s album Somewhere Between Heaven and Earth (1999) won AFIM’s Best Rock Album in 2000 and became a worldwide phenomenon for bereaved parents. In 2016 Cidny premiered his one person show Somewhere Between: Not an Ordinary Life. The show was voted Best Solo Show for 2016 by The Nashville Scene. His memoir, TransElectric: My Life as a Cosmic Rock Star, will be released in June, 2023

Deborah Holland began her career as the singer and songwriter for the critically acclaimed band, Animal Logic (with Stewart Copeland of the Police and virtuoso jazz-bassist Stanley Clarke). From 1987-1991 they released 2 albums, toured internationally, had videos on MTV, VH-1, and Much Music, made numerous TV appearances (David Letterman, The Tonight Show, etc.). One of the songs on Animal Logic II “Another Place,” is a duet with Jackson Browne. Deborah has released 6 solo albums, has scored and had dozens of songs placed in film and TV (Circuitry Man, Longmire, Highlander 11, My Name is Earl, The Beast, etc.), was a long-time music professor at California State University of Los Angeles, and then Langara College in Vancouver, BC. In 2022, Animal Logic released 2 new singles. She is a dual American-Canadian citizen.

Wendy Waldman is recognized as one of the leading recording artists and songwriters in music beginning with her acclaimed solo Warner Bros. records and then as a member of Bryndle (Karla Bonoff, Andrew Gold, Kenny Edwards). In 1973 Rolling Stone named her first album “singer-songwriter debut of the year.” She is responsible for penning dozens of songs for other artists including some of the best loved and most well-known songs of the past several decades including Vanessa Williams’ “Save the Best for Last,” and The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s (and then Garth Brooks) version of “Fishin’ in the Dark.” She is highly regarded for her work as a record producer as well, overseeing countless projects in multiple genres, including Suzy Boguss, New Grass Revival, John Cowan, and international pop star Meitek Szczesniak.

Here’s what’s been said about The Refugees:

Heavenly harmonies – Celestial singing. Sounds of stars in the making, with your songs as safe haven. Terrific.” – Michael Nesmith

The Refugees offer up a terrific combination of engaging, passionate, and poetic songwriting, high-caliber musicianship, and gorgeous vocals. The combined musical pedigree of Cidny Bullens, Deborah Holland, and Wendy Waldman is unparalleled. Don’t even think about missing an opportunity to catch them in concert.” – Anil Prasad from Innerviews, Guitar Player and Bass Player

Like the name implies, The Refugees have seen a lot and survived… Listen to the disc and you’ll know how- through raw talent!” – Rob Reinhart, Producer of Acoustic Café

The Refugees have a spirit and light that captures your attention right from the downbeat until they’ve left the building. These are not just 3 very talented women, they are great entertainers.” – Sleepy John Sandidge, KPIG Radio

The Refugees have something special. They can perform those harmonies that Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young could not nail at Woodstock. They can pick their guitars. Hell, Deborah even played an accordion, Cidny a mandolin. And the material resonates.” – Bob Lefsetz, the Lefsetz Letter

Celebrated Time/Life Photographer Ben Martin’s “Artists In Their New York Studios – Circa 1960” Featured in Upcoming Exhibition Photosynthetic From May 13 – June 9, 2023

For Immediate Release

Celebrated Time/Life Photographer Ben Martin’s “Artists In Their New York Studios – Circa 1960” Featured in Upcoming Exhibition Photosynthetic From May 13 – June 9, 2023

Opening reception on Saturday, May 13 from 4 – 6 PM!

Artist’s Portraits in Gelatin Silver Estate Prints of Roy Lichtenstein, Mark Rothko, Larry Rivers, Helen Frankenthaler, Marisol Escobar and Salvador Dali!

In Artplex Gallery’s first photography-centered group exhibition, Photosynthetic investigates the confluence of conventional photography and the subversion of the image. The exhibition presents an array of works that problematize the paradigms of what constitutes photography to scrutinize the nexus between the subject, the artist, and the spectator. Through an assortment of techniques such as digital manipulation and collage, the artists in this exhibition transcend the limits of the medium and present novel perspectives on the image-polluted world around us. The spectator is invited to ponder the agency of photography in shaping our cognizance of the world and to question the veracity of the images we are presented with.

Ben Martin was TIME Magazine’s first New York Bureau staff photographer covering wars, fashion, politics, arts, business, and sports for TIME, Life, Fortune, People, and Sports Illustrated for thirty-three years. He immortalized evocative images that defined the 1960’s such as Richard M. Nixon’s haggard 5 o’clock shadow, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s march to Montgomery, Alabama, and John F. Kennedy’s grieving widow and children. His exhibited silver gelatin photographic prints are portraits of artists in their studios.

Other photographers to be showcased at Photosynthetic are Marco Pittori, Steven Nederveen, and Ruxandra Cristina Bocin-Dumitriu.

Ben Martin

Ben Martin was married to the actress Kathryn Leigh Scott (1971-1990), best known for her roles on legendary gothic soap opera Dark Shadows, with whom he co-founded Pomegranate Press, a book publishing company. The two remained close friends and business partners until his death February 10, 2016 at age 86.

“Ben Martin’s stunning portraits of Roy Lichtenstein, Salvador Dali, Mark Rothko, Helen Frankenthaler, Larry Rivers and Marisol Escobar, illuminate the pop art, abstract-expressionist and surrealist painters and sculptors that defined the 60s art world,” says Kathryn Leigh Scott, the photographer’s former wife and archivist.

Ben Martin’s Gelatin Silver Estate Prints Collection “Artists In Their New York Studios – circa 1960”, featuring photos of Roy Lichtenstein, Mark Rothko, Larry Rivers, Helen Frankenthaler, Marisol Escobar and Salvador Dali, are now on view in Artplex Gallery.

Photosynthetic exhibition from May 13 – June 9, 2023, with an opening reception on Saturday, May 13 from 4 – 6 PM!

Experimental Electronic Music Artist Billy Yfantis Releases The Otherworldly Music Album “Birds in Space” Featuring Real Bird Sounds!

For Immediate Release

Experimental Electronic Music Artist Billy Yfantis Releases The Otherworldly Music AlbumBirds in Space” Featuring Real Bird Sounds!

An album consisting of 27 Experimental compositions inspired by Astronomy and artists like Tangerine Dream, Vangelis, and Cluster.

Athens, Greece – Experimental musician and author Billy Yfantis releases his new digital album “Birds in Space.” The album consists of 27 experimental tracks that explore space from a musical and conceptual perspective. The concept refers to a flock of birds that travel in space among various space objects (clusters and galaxies). The album’s song titles refer to real space objects that exist in the science of astronomy. Trivia: The “Birds in Space” track is a 30 minute psychedelic composition that includes real bird sounds, recorded somewhere in Athens, Greece!

Billy Yfantis commented on the release: “In a world full of music stars, if you really want to find the next real star, then just switch off the TV, pick up the telescope, and look up to the sky, where the real space objects exist and surround our planet. Astronomy and music, according to Plato, are “twinned” disciplines of sensuous perception: astronomy is for the eyes, and music is for the ears. The goal of this album is to feed your eyes and ears with sensuous food for thought.”

Billy is currently working on his next album, with a scheduled release in late 2023. Stay tuned for more information!

Track List:
1. Aerial View of the Messier 78
2. Floating in Abell 3389
3. The Airborne Objects of the Spindle Galaxy

About Billy Yfantis
Vasileios (Billy) Yfantis holds 2 Master Degrees in Information Technology and is a Ph.D. candidate in the University of West Attica by conducting research on e-government. Billy has been working on music since the late 1990s by experimenting with tape mixing and sound design. Billy is playing digital keyboards, but prefers to express his artistic dream through the electronic sounds that come from unusual machines. He has experimented with the recording of vacuum cleaners, electric blenders and other strange sounds that have resulted in musical releases. Moreover, Billy has authored books on music, business and science while from times to times he speaks about the electronic governance at scientific conferences all over Europe.

Famous Quotes (What Others Have Said)

Krautrock legend Harald Grosskopf (Ash Ra Tempel, Klaus Schulze, Cosmic Jokers): “I always like electronic music made by younger musicians who consequently follow their personal instinct, rather than trying to copy what’s already been made in the past, in the spirit of: Whenever you meet Buddha kill him. Keep on tracking Billy!”

Tom McLoughlin (Director of the movie “Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives”): “I really dug his music!! VERY cool stuff!!”

Phil Lanzon (Uriah Heep): “I like the track ‘Waiting for the battle.’ Great riff. I can see this as soundtracks to Psycho – punk movies and the like.”

Bobby Borg, (Music Business Author, Consultant, Professor): “This is fkn bad ass music that everyone needs to hear… imagine the coolest meditation music out there and the coolest sci-fi movie soundtrack rolled into one! Stream it and trip out today.”

Steve Whitfield (Producer and engineer of The Cure, The Mission UK): “This music is crying out to be used in films but at the same time it’s great to just sit back, listen and immerse yourself in them without any moving images and let your imagination run wild!”

Snowy Shaw (ex-King Diamond, Therion, Mercyful Fate): “I didn’t know what to expect when I had this album sent to me by the composer Billy Yfantis. To be perfectly honest, 9 times out of 10 when people send me their new album it makes me feel a bit uneasy and awkward. Firstly because I don’t listen an awful lot to contemporary music and secondly, even less to other metal & hard rock artists due to lack of interest and I don’t wanna hurt their feelings. I don’t mean that in any rude, disrespectful or arrogant way, but I’m into creating my own music, not so much into consuming music of my peers. However, this was something entirely different. I’m not even sure it’s considered music, but it’s the kind of atmospheric and meditative type of sounds that I’ve been listening a helluva lot over the past few years to try to relax and cope with my stressful, turbulent life, constantly on the verge of being burnt out. That being said, I liked it and it made me calm, mindful and sleepy. Presumably the worst kind of reaction my metalhead peers would wanna hear about their new album but in this case it’s probably the best sort of compliment one could get.”

Ben Martin (1930-2017) covered wars, fashion, politics, arts, business and sports for Time, Life, Fortune, People and Sports Illustrated for thirty-three years. He covered Martin Luther King during the Selma to Montgomery Civil Rights March, took the infamous sweaty five-o’clock shadow photograph of Richard Nixon during the Kennedy-Nixon TV debates in 1960 that Nixon claimed cost him the election, and photographed Time’s now famous “Swinging London” cover story. He photographed major cover essays on the 25th anniversary of D-Day in Normandy and 40th anniversaries of Pearl Harbor and Hiroshima, the Mozambique civil war from both the rebel and Portuguese sides and an arctic expedition to the North Pole. His photograph of President John F. Kennedy’s funeral led to a Life magazine cover, and his coverage of Pope Paul’s trip to the Holy Land was a cover feature in Time.

Born Benjamin Rush Martin III in Salisbury, North Carolina September 16, 1930, he became fascinated by photography at the age of eight when his father, a newspaperman, gave him a bakelite “Univex 00” miniature box camera. At age fifteen he founded the first High School News Bureau in the nation, and became a staff photographer at the local newspaper, The Salisbury Post. At age 17, he became the youngest member of the National Press Photographers Association. While attending Ohio University, he became a stringer-photographer for UPI. His photo essay on a traveling preacher brought him to the attention of celebrated photographer W. Eugene Smith and Wilson Hicks, executive picture editor of Life, who offered him a position on the Life staff after his graduation. Henry Luce then hired him as Time’s first staff photographer in the New York Bureau.

Ben Martin is the author of Marcel Marceau: Master of Mime and co-author of A Different World: The Great Hotels of the World.

Ben was married to the actress Kathryn Leigh Scott (1971-1990), best known for her roles on legendary gothic soap opera Dark Shadows, with whom he co-founded Pomegranate Press, a book publishing company. The two remained close friends and business partners until his death February 10, 2016 at age 86.

Ben Martin’s stunning portraits of Roy Lichtenstein, Salvador Dali, Mark Rothko, Helen Frankenthaler, Larry Rivers and Marisol Escobar, illuminate the pop art, abstract-expressionist and surrealist painters and sculptors that defined the 60s art world,” says Kathryn Leigh Scott, the photographer’s former wife and archivist.

A selection of Ben’s artworks will be featured in the upcoming exhibition Photosynthetic from May 13 – June 9, 2023, with an opening reception on Saturday, May 13 from 4 – 6 PM!

“Washed Up Drummer” CARMINE APPICE Teams Once Again With Guitarist FERNANDO PERDOMO On A New Album Of Instrumental Rock, Releases First Single & Video!

Washed Up Drummer” CARMINE APPICE Teams Once Again With Guitarist FERNANDO PERDOMO On A New Album Of Instrumental Rock, Releases First Single & Video!

Los Angeles, CA – In a recent interview with Ultimate Guitar magazine, veteran drummer Carmine Appice kicked up a dust storm when he lamented the fact that a certain stadium metal group had been relying on pre-recorded tracks in their live show. In retaliation, the bassist for said metal group referred to Appice as a “washed up drummer.” But as a member of numerous pioneering classic rock bands like Vanilla Fudge and Cactus, often dubbed “the American Led Zeppelin,” as well as longtime collaborator with Rod Stewart, Jeff Beck and a host of others, Appice has had more than his fair share of stage experience and knows the kind of chops it takes to command a stage show.

Even now, after 5 decades in the music business, Appice continues to release new albums and break new ground. His most recent project, a pairing with superstar guitarist and producer extraordinaire Fernando Perdomo, is about to unleash a brand new studio album titled Running Up That Hill. Set for release on May 26, the album consists of fiery rock instrumentals, featuring special guest performances by Billy Sheehan (Mr. Big, David Lee Roth), Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater), Jimmy Haslip (Yellowjackets), Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal (Guns N’ Roses), Tony Franklin (The Firm), Phil Soussan (Ozzy Osbourne, Vince Neil) and more!

Check out the album’s first single, a stellar cover of the formerly obscure Kate Bush tune “Running Up That Hill” and it becomes clear that far from being washed up, Appice may be just getting warmed up!
