Adam Nitti, Kirk Covington, Bill Evans, Gergo Borlai and Stephan Maass. What sounds like a “Who’s Who” in the present jazz-rock/fusion scene, is actually the lineup for electric guitarist Gerald Gradwohl’s new album “…Or What?”

A Jazz, Rock and Funk gumbo combined to make an energetic, and exciting project, that not only showcases the amazing instrumental capabilities of these musicians, but also features the exceptional musicality, and the extraordinary chemistry that this band creates together.

Gerald has worked with Kirk Covington since 2002, when they recorded the album “ABQ” with Bob Berg, and Gary Willis, the album making big waves in the fusion scene. The idea to make a mutual album with Adam and Kirk was given birth during the tour in 2014 and could now finally be realized this year.

Modern recording techniques have made it possible to capture these exceptional musicians together on this album. The sessions and what was captured cannot be described in words here……you’ll need to hear the recording. It’s stunning.

With access to hours of live performances both on stage at Cropredy and in session on the BBC, this bespoke Madfish offering, curated by Bert Jansch/John McLaughlin biographer Colin Harper, is the definitive tribute to the legendary British folk-rock band’s enduring legacy.

The Fairport Convention legend was forged between 1967 and 1979 – 12 years, 16 albums, umpteen line-ups and four exhausted people at the end of it. In August 1980, the last line-up – Simon Nicol, Dave Swarbrick, Dave Pegg and Bruce Rowland – reunited for a day in a farmer’s field in Cropredy, Oxfordshire, establishing the iconic ‘Fairport’s Cropredy Convention’ festival in the process. Five relatively quiet years passed by before, in 1985 and by popular demand, a new recording and touring Fairport Convention assembled around Peggy and Simon. Everything moved up a gear. There would be four new albums by 1990 and BBC Radio welcomed the reborn folk-rockers with remarkable regularity.

Multi-instrumentalist Mike Ian Releases New Americana Album “Waterworks Junction – Time Will Tell”

New release under the band name“Waterworks Junction” – A work from longtime friends and collaborators Matt Janda & Mike Ian and introducing Gab Howarth.

New music with an Americana, Rootsy vibe to it with elements of Bluegrass. Some of these tunes date back to the late 90’s where Mike & Matt recorded demos at Mike’s home studio, Eyeball Studios in NJ. At that time the tunes had a more progressive, Peter Gabriel type vibe with Mike performing instrumentation and both Mike and Matt performing vocal duties. Mike had met Gabby a few years back and was quite impressed by her vocals. The two started gigging together quite frequently. Matt then approached Mike at one of their gigs with the idea of having Gab do vocals for a resurrection of these older tunes. A female approach if you will.

The three members fine tuned these tunes both musically and lyrically over the course of a year and were quite happy with how it was shaping out. Mike had the chance to perform on a multitude of acoustic instruments including mandolin, pedal steel, upright bass, drums, piano, etc.  And various guest artists performed throughout. It turned into a full 14 song album entitled “Waterworks Junction – Time Will Tell” – The story of a woman from adolescence to her senior navigating the landscape of her life, loves, contemplations, desperations, and all of the other fabrics weaving the tapestry of her life. From a carefree childhood, through marriage, World War I, childbirth, the depression, World War II, the 50’s, the turbulent 60’s, and into the second Age of Enlightenment- the 70’s.

The artwork was once again done by Mike’s daughter, Ivy whom also did last years release “The Learning Tree”

Stockton, NJ – In the pantheon of all-time great front men, the late Michael Hutchence seat at the table is secured. A consummate “rock star” if there ever was one, he embodied the spirit and smoldering swagger of rock ‘n’ roll while possessing one of the most iconic voices in the contemporary music scene. So, it was with an earth-rattling shudder when tragically he passed away in 1997, leaving a mind-numbingly impressive legacy across the entertainment realm.

A decade or so after Michael’s death a batch of unreleased ideas surfaced in a tape locker in London. Producer Danny Saber (Rolling Stones, U2, Bowie, and Black Grape who sparked Hutchence’ initial interest in Saber) had been collaborating with Michael from 1995 up until days before his death and was approached to assess the find. In going through the ideas, it became immediately apparent this would be something worth exploring, so he began the process of developing and producing finished masters with a view to putting together some sort of release.

Saber then set about the task of getting a documentary film made that would center around the discovery and provide a vehicle, not only to tell Michael’s story but also promote the music. After getting traction with Directors such as Julian Temple and Mark Pellington, etc…, the “Last Rockstar” directed by Mark Llewellen known as a maverick with a penchant for fearless storytelling down under was finally released in 2017, its airing limited to Australian/New Zealand TV. While some portions of these songs were featured in the documentary, the fully mastered versions had never been released. Until now.

With a legacy that extends over four decades, beginning with the iconic multi-platinum band INXS, who have sold over 50 million albums worldwide, as well as his solo projects, Hutchence was an unbridled talent whose cultural significance knew few bounds. Even in death, his impact continues. This unreleased material is a true piece of musical history and will forever solidify Michael Kelland Hutchence as the brilliant singer/songwriter he is.

“I Am Myself” is a collection of never-before-heard home demo recordings by Liverpool’s Tom Evans, bassist and co-lead singer of the iconic power pop group Badfinger. It will be released as a limited-edition CD by Y&T Music and available on all streaming platforms on June 5, 2024 to celebrate what would have been Tommy’s 77th birthday.

Like his Badfinger bandmate Pete Ham, Tom Evans was a prolific songwriter; he gave the quartet many of their greatest ‘deep cuts,’ including “Money,” “It’s Over,” “Believe Me” and “Blind Owl.” Evans and Ham co-wrote “Without You,” which went to No. 1 for both Harry Nilsson and Mariah Carey, and is considered by many to be one of the greatest pop ballads of all time.

He sang lead on “Come And Get It,” Badfinger’s smash hit debut, written and produced by Paul McCartney; his soaring tenor voice made “Maybe Tomorrow,” recorded for the Beatles’ Apple Records when they were still calling themselves The Iveys, an international sensation.

Among the 21 tracks on “I Am Myself,” two went on to be recorded by The Iveys/Badfinger: “Fisherman,” and “No Escaping Your Love”.

Performed mainly on acoustic or electric guitar, with frequent vocal and instrumental overdubs, the album’s freewheeling musicality, lyrical playfulness and clever song-construction showcase Tommy’s songwriting talents at an early period in his musical career.

“I Am Myself” came to be after a long review of material. While reviewing Iveys demo recordings, Tom Brennan discovered that there was more than enough material of Tom Evans’ solo recordings to put together a robust album. Before Brennan could even present the idea, mastering engineer Kevin McElligott proposed the idea of a Tom Evans solo album. McElligott felt strongly that the time was long overdue for Tommy’s demos to have a formal release: “Such a supremely talented singer/songwriter who struck an emotional chord within so many. I felt a real strong responsibility to Marianne, Stephen and the Badfinger community to bring these songs out sounding as best they can. This is just the beginning of hopefully many more releases. It’s an honor for me to sit down and work on these tracks. I do hope everyone enjoys this release.” Everything just came together like it was meant to be. Badfinger historian Dan Matovina made the initial digital transfers. The recordings were then compiled & edited by Tom Brennan, and restored & mastered by Kevin McElligott.

Stephen and Marianne spent time listening to these songs during the process of putting this project together, as well as contributing photos to this album. Tim Boyle gave permission to use some of his pictures for this project and was excited to hear about a new Tommy album, as he is an Evans family friend and worked closely with the band as a booking agent and an assistant for many years.

Released with the full support and cooperation of the Evans Estate, “I Am Myself” is a limited edition of 1,000 CDs. An art print of a rare early photo of Tom is included.

Earlier in 2024, Y&T Music issued “Gwent Gardens,” a collection of unreleased demo recordings by the late Pete Ham.

“Not In a Million Years” is the new single from the allstar project led by singer/songwriter/keyboardist Doug Kistner. On this track trumpeter Lee Loughnane of Chicago adds his iconic horn sound to this new Studio D’Lux melodic song. Jon Herington of Steely Dan plays a beautifully constructed guitar solo. On drums is the famed rock drummer Liberty Devitto, supplying the groove.

Doug Kistner has played keyboards with Trans-Siberian orchestra, John Waite, Blood, Sweat & Tears. Currently with The Lords of 52nd Street and Glen Burtniks Summer of Love.

Says Doug, “It’s a dream band really. Hearing all these super talented musicians add their parts to the song is the best part of this thing. We’ve just been going song by song, releasing singles with this special project. We’ve been using some different musicians depending on the song which is such a luxury, but I’m proud to say Liberty Devitto is the drummer on all of them. “Not in a Million Years” is the first love song for Studio D’Lux. Says Doug, “I think that kind of lyric works perfectly with the melody. The next song we will do is a little dark, cinematic but powerful. I am hoping to start playing some shows live. It would be the Studio D’Lux songs with classic songs by Steely, Doobies, Toto etc..”

US Prog Rock Ensemble IZZ To Release New Album “Collapse the Wave” on June 11, 2024

Innovative New York-based progressive rock band IZZ is thrilled to announce the release of their latest album “Collapse the Wave” available for pre-order now on Bandcamp: izzmusic.bandcamp.com and on all major streaming services on June 11, 2024. This inventive new work plunges listeners into a deep exploration of existential themes, such as the “death of the ego,” the relinquishing of “self,” and the idea of parallel realities.

“Collapse the Wave” marks a significant evolution in IZZ’s musical journey, melding intricate rhythms and complex harmonies to craft a narrative both compelling and transformative. The album, produced by IZZ keyboardist and vocalist Tom Galgano, features a collection of eleven tracks that challenge conventional perceptions and invite listeners to explore beyond the boundaries of traditional rock.

John Galgano, co-founder and bassist of IZZ, describes the album as “a sonic exploration of the self and the universe.” He adds, “We tried to weave together each of our musical influences with philosophical, spiritual, and scientific ideas to create an album that explores both personal and universal themes.”

The album’s lead single “There’s Hope!” is accompanied by an animated short story created exclusively for the track by talented NYC-based animator, Julie Morris.

“Collapse the Wave” is not just an auditory experience; it’s a journey through the self and the cosmos, making for a listening experience that is as thought-provoking as it is entertaining and fun.
