French Music Legends Magma To Release New Album “Zëss” On Limited Edition Gold Colored Vinyl

Limited edition of 1500 numbered copies on 180 gram audiophile gold colored vinyl

Magma’s critically acclaimed newest album Zëss is a 38-minute musical work by Christian Vander. Composed in 1970, Zëss had long been plagued by its incompleteness, its recording was deferred for years. Four decades after its first draft, the work has finally been recorded in an orchestral version that gives it both its true dreamlike dimension and its transcending power. The first public performance took place in Bourges in 1979. It is the last piece in a series of unfinished compositions from the 1970s. During the last 15 years, they finished and released all these different pieces. Zëss is described as a work that touches the philosophical domain by its treatment of the idea of nothingness and its evocation of the theme of time.

Magma turned fifty this year, catapulting into the very exclusive circle of bands who for five decades have never laid down their instruments, nor turned down their volume! The oldest French band still in existence has always played at full sail, never yielding to the siren song of passing trends. The fiercely original music has tirelessly adhered to the highest artistic standards while still reaching a wide audience of all ages.

Zëss is available for pre-order as a limited edition of 1500 numbered copies on gold colored vinyl. The package includes a 4-page booklet. The vinyl edition will be released on September 20, 2019.

Classic Rock Guitar Maestro PAT TRAVERS Strikes Up The Big Band And Lets It Swing On His New Album!

Los Angeles, CA – After 40 plus years of slinging his six-string all over the world, you’d think Pat Travers would be slowing down, settling into his well-worn blues rock groove that has earned him great critical acclaim as well as a massive worldwide fanbase. Instead Travers appears to be ramping up and looking for new horizons to conquer! On the heels of his superb 2015 album Retro Rocket, Travers brings what is sure to be called one of the most unique records of his distinguished career: a full album of swinging big band classics from the ‘40s & ‘50s given a whole new sound and energy courtesy of Travers’ superb skill as an arranger and interpreter. The album is called simply Swing! and it features full band rock arrangements of Louis Prima’s “Sing Sing Sing,” Duke Elington’s “Take The ‘A’ Train,” Glenn Miller’s “In The Mood” and many more! The result is an incredible listening experience of familiar tunes played like you’ve never heard them before.

Mr. Travers explains the genesis and creation of the album: “A little while ago I had the ‘40s channel on satellite radio playing and I started thinking that it would be fun to get into that Big Band Swing era music. I thought that I could find a place for my guitar style in there and I asked the people at Cleopatra Records if they thought so too. They did and with Cleopatra’s endorsement, I started to research the music and the bands and players from that time period.

The first thing I discovered was that these Big Bands were a lot like the rock bands that came along in later years. They had a lot of power (sixteen horn players!) and the bass players and drummers were powerhouses. The soloists, guys like Ray Anthony on trumpet, had a ton of flare and chops and I found them very inspiring.

I was fortunate to have my friend and great keyboardist Michael Franklin help me with the horn arrangements and getting the players for the recording sessions. Working with a baritone sax, trombone, alto sax, and trumpet was one of the best studio experiences I’ve ever had. These guys can play! Plus having Michael Franklin’s brother Tim Franklin playing the upright bass just made everything legit.

I also wanted to have my trio of Tommy Craig (drums) and David Pastorius (bass) try out some of the classic ‘40s tunes in a more rocked out minimal style. I think that we have been very successful in adapting the Big Band sound to a more contemporary blues/rock thing. Classic Big Band hits like ‘Sing Sing Sing’ and ‘In The Mood’ were a ton of fun to record.

All in all I think what we’ve done here is make that great old 1940s era Big Band music sound accessible to contemporary audiences and it certainly does swing!”

The new release features one of the final recordings by guitar legend Bernie Torme, best known for his work with the Ian Gillan Band and Ozzy Osbourne, who passed away this year. The song is a bonus preview track from the upcoming National Wrecking Company II release “Overture/Mechanized Confusion.”

A heavy diverse discourse on the current state of politics, war, religion and greed. The view from our vantage point of a global catastrophic claustrophobic dystopia.

We’ve included this ultra special bonus preview title track of National Wrecking Company II:(Overture/ “Mechanized Confusion”). In dedication to and featuring Bernie’s simply stunningly artful fretwork.

All songs were written on bass first, then arranged by JZ Barrell. He also produced, recorded, mixed and mastered the album. The band features 2 guitarists; 23 year old shred prodigy Jesse Berlin and  Phil Bader, a 60 something finger stylist in the vein of  Beck and Knopfler. The bass is handled by Randy Pratt, best known for his work with The Lizards and harpist for classic rock legends Cactus! The drummer TC Tolliver is best known for his work with Wendy O Williams & The Plasmatics! Drums are also handled by Neil Cicione. Jimmy Kunes is featured on lead and backing vocals and Scott “The Doctor” Treibitz on keyboards.Together the National Wrecking Company crank out some weird and extreme metal!

Portland, OR – GLASYS (Gil Assayas) is a pianist, synthesist, producer and vocalist who delivers intricate virtuosic keyboard parts, electronic soundscapes and impassioned vocals in one package that combines his many influences including Electronic music, Alternative Rock, Jazz and Classical music.

Since relocating to the US from Israel three years ago, GLASYS has been endorsed by major gear manufacturers such as Nord Keyboards, 64 Audio, Sequential and Spectrasonics, has developed a large social media presence with over two million total video views, has been featured on the GRAMMY’s website, and has had his song “The Pressure” played at a Portland Trailblazers NBA game. Recently, he was discovered by Hip-Hop giant T-Pain on reddit and the two are now collaborating. GLASYS is also currently touring with legendary 70s-80s band Utopia (led by Todd Rundgren).

GLASYS released his debut EP “The Pressure” in September 2016. His first full-length album “Defective Humanity” was successfully funded on Kickstarter and will be released on August 2nd, 2019. The new single “People” featuring Todd Rundgren will be released on July 25th.

Says GLASYS, “The inspiration for this song is human nature, and more specifically the way we humans are never truly satisfied with what we have and are always chasing something ‘better’ in life, be it success, more money, a new car, a relationship etc. I personally struggle a lot with living in the moment, and the song addresses that struggle.

“Ever since I wrote this song I thought that Todd would be perfect for it, but I wasn’t sure if he’d have the time to collaborate seeing as he’s so busy. I was very pleasantly surprised when I sent him a demo of the song and he replied 5 minutes later saying that he’d love to do it! He ended up recording his parts on tour (on a cruise ship, I believe). I didn’t give him any specific instructions, just told him to add whatever he feels like adding. He recorded some great vocals, new harmonies and an awesome guitar solo that took the song to a new level. I’m extremely grateful for his support and really happy with the results.”

GLASYS forthcoming album “Defective Humanity” (to be released on August 2nd) is self produced and will include his best songs from the past 2-3 years. “I have a pretty active YouTube channel to which I upload improvisations and short musical ideas, so I was able to receive feedback from my viewers and develop their favorite tunes into full tracks. Not all the songs were created that way though, some are extremely personal and have never been heard by anyone, in any form. The album will contain both instrumental and vocal songs.”

Potter’s Daughter was formed in New York City while Dyanne Potter Voegtlin was studying classical piano performance at the Manhattan School of Music. A pupil of Robert Goldsand and Mike Longo, Dyanne searched for the marriage of classical theory and virtuosity with the freedom and innovation of jazz both in study and performance. Together with a rotating group of masters from many schools of music, Dyanne performed regularly in New York City, as well as in north-eastern Pennsylvania.

Now, joining forces with long-time friend, Amit Chatterjee, (producer, arranger, and guitarist), and Ian C. JIRGA Original Motion Picture Soundtrack by AJ True Nominated “Best Music” in the Film Critics Circle of Australia Awards

Sydney, Australia – AJ True is a Sydney based musician known for his work as a co-founder and drummer of Psychobilly band Zombie Ghost Train from 2002-2008. As a composer, music producer, and musical director his music has been used in film, TV, radio & theatre. His recent credits for screen composition include: She Who Must Be Loved (dir. Erica Glynn, 2019), Truth Be Told; Lest We Forget (dir. Erica Glynn, 2018), JIRGA (dir. Benjamin Gilmour, 2017), Paramedico (dir. Benjamin Gilmour, 2012). In 2019 his JIRGA score was nominated ‘Best Music’ in the Film Critics Circle of Australia Awards (FCCA).

“Can you make the score sound like Ennio Morricone meets Giorgio Moroder in the Afghan desert?” This was one of the directions I got from Benjamin Gilmour when he asked me to compose the music for his latest Australian feature film, JIRGA. With those two references, this was a dream job for a composer.

Benjamin wanted a score that would be recognisable and as individual as the film itself. We aimed to achieve this with diverse and unconventional instrument combinations; Afghan rabab, tanbur, harmonium, electric guitars, vintage 70s synthesizers, cello drones through guitar distortion pedals, and a string quartet.

Benjamin was interested in steering away from typical film music with this score. He wanted a collection of music, strong enough to be a standalone piece of work, without sounding like ‘screen music’. I aimed to achieve this by composing themes away from the film. I made notes as I saw the rough cut then composed for a few weeks and sent off some possible themes to Ben. He would select his favourite pieces and we’d temp them into the film while it was being edited. As the film was refined, we’d tweak the cues to fit the scenes in more of a traditional way. This was a great way of working as it meant that music took its natural course in the development of compositional ideas and motifs.

It’s always interesting to be pushed into unknown territory and encouraged to take risks. Benjamin would send me obscure 70s electronic music that I had no idea existed (Ash Ra Tempel, Brainticket, Edward Artemiev). He would ask me to find weird synthesizers, experiment with unusual combinations of instruments, and try different production techniques. All traditional film instrumentation would need to be put aside, even our string quartet would be mixed in a way to make it sound like it was played by a synthesizer by our excellent music mixer, Dave Hammer.

In addition to vintage synthesizers, Benjamin and film producer John Maynard were interested in hearing a layer of drones under the other musical elements. We settled on cello (through distortion pedals), doubled with harmonium. These drone layers help create a feeling of tension that lasts through most of the film, it also grounds each cue in a tonal center, a sort of minimalist ‘basso continuo’.

JIRGA’S minimal, tension-based score utilizes recurring themes played by both western and non-western instruments performed by musicians from Australia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the USA.

The songs performed by cast members Sam Smith (Mike Wheeler) and Sher Alam Miskeen Ustad (the Taxi Driver) were their own arrangements, performed on location and recorded by Ben in Afghanistan. When Sam and Sher Alam sing and play songs for each other, unspoken connections are made, cultural differences are transcended and their music becomes a third character that unites and disarms. Only through the sharing of music are they able to finally connect and recognise each other through their veil of differences. In those desert scenes you can see this happening for real on screen. It’s a beautiful thing. When we weren’t talking about the work at hand, Ben and I had many conversations about music’s mysterious power to cross great divides, opening doors to knowledge, understanding and acceptance. Hopefully some part of the film’s message can find its way into the real world.

Los Angeles – “Follow Me to the Sun” is a new single by songwriter/guitarist Laura Espinoza (of Laura Espinoza & Lunden Reign) and features Mindy Milburn on lead vocals, Miranda Miller on backing vocals & piano, Geoff Pearlman, Laura Espinoza & Julian Tomarin on guitars; Matt Denis on bass & Noel Jasso on drums. Produced by Geoff Pearlman (“Echo in the Canyon Band”), “Follow Me to the Sun” is one of the featured songs in the Hollywood Fringe Fest Encore Award winning musical “American Stranger the Musical” (music & book by Laura Espinoza).

The song is about someone who feels desperate & lonely after someone has left them; the reason is never revealed. This person then hopes they will find a way to reunite, but it may not be within earthly bounds.

Laura Espinoza: Laura is a songwriter/guitarist, playwright, and TV producer. She is the primary songwriter for the critically acclaimed original alt rock band Laura Espinoza & Lunden Reign. Laura recently won a NARAS songwriting contest, exclusive to Grammy voting members where she participated in a private songwriting workshop with Busby, Rodney Jerkins, Shane Stevens and Sarah Hudson. She has performed on stage with Luis Maldonado (Train), Terri Nunn (Berlin), Dale Bozzio (Missing Persons) & Prescott Niles (The Knack), and started her career with Matt Sorum (Guns n’ Roses) She has recorded at Capitol Records, Hollywood, Abbey Road, UK and is the host of “The Rock Radio Show” on KBU-FM, Malibu.

Mindy Milburn: Mindy has a passion for singing and music. She is originally from Cleveland Ohio and has sang for multiple bands as well as in musical theatre and original bands and is so grateful to be working with Laura Espinoza. Mindy is now living in Los Angeles and is the proud parent of two wonderful children.

Miranda Miller: Miranda is a classically trained pianist who started playing at age 4. At age 12, she joined her first rock band, Cherri Bomb, where she would get her first taste of the music industry as a rhythm guitarist, keyboardist, and vocalist. Signed with Hollywood Records, this band released one EP and one studio album and played shows in America, Europe, and Australia. Later on, she was in alternative pop band Hey Violet!, signed to Capitol Records, and released another EP and studio album. She has been on stage opening for acts such as Smashing Pumpkins, Foo Fighters, Bush, Staind, and 5 Seconds of Summer, and has performed in almost 20 countries. Miranda now teaches private piano, guitar, and vocal lessons and has directed multiple theatrical productions.

“American Stranger the Musical” recently received the “Hollywood Fringe Festival ENCORE! Award” as well as the “Better Lemons ‘Sweet’ Audience Review Award.” The musical is based on the music by Laura Espinoza; “American Stranger” is the story of three siblings, two of whom are learning to understand the third who is transitioning from their brother to their sister, now known as Mary. Rejection and intolerance plagues Mary – from society and from her parents who have disowned her. However, it is the loss of her beloved girlfriend, Dionne, that haunts her the most. America’s growing cultural divide has made Mary a stranger in her own country. “American Stranger” features the acoustic versions of the songs of Laura Espinoza & London Reign.
