Ian Emes is the British film director, artist, animator, innovator of film techniques and long-time Pink Floyd collaborator. Described as ‘precursor of the music video and digital animation’, Ian’s experimental short film “Meddle – One of These Days” (1972) is the first ever synchronised interpretation of Pink Floyd music. By collaborating with Ian, Pink Floyd found a way to expand the immersive universe of their concerts, having previously used only lighting effects during their performances – ushering in a new era of concert technology not just for Pink Floyd but for rock music as a whole.

When the band commissioned Ian to animate “The Dark Side of The Moon”, he created the world-famous “Time” sequence, (“The Emes Clocks”) which was projected onto a circular screen, (“Mr. Screen”).

Following the euphoric reaction to “Time” at Wembley Arena (1974), Pink Floyd commissioned Ian to create sequences for “Speak To Me”, (which included the iconic prism) “On the Run” and “Us and Them”. The concert films were subsequently seen by millions across the world. Among the many treasures in Ian’s archives are animation tests and storyboards for the entire “The Dark Side of The Moon” album.

This unseen footage includes Ian’s original “Us and Them” sequence of “Marching Crosses” – a forerunner of the “Marching Hammers” seen years later in Roger Waters’ “The Wall”. With its infinite perspectives and tumbling figures, Ian’s dynamic graphic imagery became a founding style for the band. His “Time” sequence was itself re-purposed for Roger Waters’ epic projections onto vast screens in his sell-out “Us and Them” World Tour (2019).

Previously Waters had asked Ian to create sequences for “The Wall – Live in Berlin” (1990), his first solo appearance since splitting from the band. The concert was performed to a sell-out crowd of over 350,000 people, then the biggest concert audience in history.

More recently, Ian’s iconic “Meddle – One of These Days” animation revisited the circular screen in the historic Roman amphitheatre in David Gilmour’s “Live at Pompei” tour (2016).

In parallel to his animation career, Ian continues to experiment as a multi-disciplinary artist, exploring all mediums of the still and moving image. He has created album covers, concept art and storyboards, directed nine feature films, TV series and hundreds of commercials with Ridley Scott Associates, garnering numerous awards, including three BAFTAS and an OSCAR Nomination.

Greek Electronic Music Artist Billy Yfantis Releases The Soundtrack Of His Performance At North America’s Longest Running Experimental Music Festival!

A 14-minute hypnotic composition inspired by artists like Tangerine Dream, Sunn O)), and Merzbow.

Athens, Greece – Experimental musician and author Billy Yfantis releases his new digital single entitled “The Universe Collapses (Norcal Noisefest 2022 Performance).” The new digital single includes Billy’s performance at Norcal Noisefest 2022. The Norcal Noisefest is the longest running experimental/noise/outsider sound art festival in the USA, founded in 1995 in Sacramento, CA. The 2022 edition of the festival took place from September 30 through October 2, with live performances on Friday September 30 and Saturday October 1 at Cafe Colonial, plus an all-virtual day on Sunday October 2.

Billy appeared virtually on the 3rd day of the festival by presenting a new experimental composition through the use of a unique organismic analogue synthesizer. The term “organismic” refers to the usage by the synthesizer of some fundamental principles underlying living creatures. “Organismic” means that the synthesizer’s modules interact with each other, and the behaviour of the instrument simulates a live conversation between living creatures.

Billy Yfantis commented on the release: “For this festival performance, I used a special-made synthesizer that has mechanical parts that simulate the dialogue between living organisms. My main scope was to establish a dialogue between machines and present it to a human-oriented event: a music festival. This mechanical dialogue between machines sounds like a post-apocalyptic soundtrack to my ears, and I can imagine it as the soundtrack of the universe’s collapse.” Billy Yfantis plans to release his 6th full album soon, a Neoclassical/Cinematic album inspired by European mythology. “Shadows In A Jar” is the sixth studio album, and next installment of the Life on Mars series from Earl Kayoss and an array of talent including Fernando Perdomo. Kayoss and Perdomo have been working for 8 years to deliver this remarkable project.

Earl Kayoss, a prolific songwriter, wrote all of the songs on the album. Joining Kayoss and Fernando Perdomo on the album are Billy Sherwood (Yes) and Denny Seiwell (McCartney and Wings). Each one of them are very well known in their own right and have extensive credits.

Virtuoso Guitarist Vinnie Moore To Release New Album “Double Exposure” With Guest Vocalists

NYC – The follow up to Vinnie’s 2019 “SOUL SHIFTER” will be released on November 8th on his Mind’s Eye Music label. Vinnie is joined by singers Ed Terry (Rage And Beyond, American Mafia), Keith Slack (MSG, Mother Road), Mike DiMeo (Riot) and Brian Stephenson (Old James) on this half vocal half instrumental album. This is his first solo release that features vocals. Band members include Richie Monica (Billy Cox, Papa Chubby, Tantric) on drums, Michael Bean and Pete Griffin (Steve Vai, Dweezil Zappa) on Bass, John Cassidy on Keyboards, and John Pessoni on Drums.

Vinnie has released ten solo albums and six albums and a LIVE DVD with rock icons UFO, and is considered to be one of the originators of shred guitar. He’s made many guest appearances with others and played and wrote the soundtrack for a classic PEPSI TV commercial. He’s recorded and toured with ALICE COOPER and was opening act for RUSH with his solo band on the ROLL THE BONES tour. Vinnie has toured all around the world with UFO and solo, and has two best selling guitar instructional videos. He has been an inspiration for fans and guitarists worldwide.

“This project started during the period when we were all grounded from touring. I had some song ideas and originally thought I’d do an instrumental EP with 5 or 6 songs. Before recording, I always do listening sessions with my demos to get production ideas. While playing “One Day”, I started hearing vocals in my head and naturally started singing along and it hit me that this would make a good vocal song. As I listened through the rest of the tunes, one by one I realized that they all could be vocal songs. It was a light bulb moment where I realized, ‘hey dummy, here’s the vocal thing you’ve been wanting to do’. So the idea to take a group of songs and create dual versions of each was born.

To set this all in motion, the next step was lining up singers. I knew right away that I wanted to collaborate with a few different vocalists I have known or worked with over the years. Keith Slack and Mike DiMeo quickly came to mind. I have known Keith for more than 20 years and we have always talked about working together. Mike has toured with me in the past as vocalist and keyboardist, so he was an obvious choice. Brian Stephenson opened for me on a tour in 2016 with his band Old James, I liked his voice and lyrics and knew he would be a good guy to collaborate with. Ed Terry and I were on a track together a couple years back. I really dug his voice and ideas and knew I wanted to work with him.

The only good thing about the world being shut down for months is that it gave me the time I needed to put this thing all together. It was a big undertaking. In between recording guitars, I would shift gears and go into phases where I sang and sketched out lyrics. It took some thought to decide which singer I wanted to be on which song. After that, I sent out the recordings with and without vocals and told everyone to be creative whether that meant totally following their own inspiration or using any of my ideas. In the end both things happened.”

Vinnie recently completed a European solo tour in May and a festival run with UFO during the summer.

“The Rock Artist’s Progress” is a unique concept and project created by legendary violinist Darryl Way that consists of an album and novel that are intrinsically linked together and sold as a bundle. The novel will also include musical illustrations created by Darryl, that can be clicked on and listened to, whilst reading. Both album and novel are now available on Spirit of Unicorn Music, Cherry Red Records, iTunes and Amazon. The enhanced audio will also be available on Kindle.

The novel, written by Charles Shorwell, is set against the backdrop of the musical revolution that started with the Beatles and begins in 1968, a year after ‘The Summer of Love’ and follows the story of Daniel Luckham, a young classical pianist studying at the Royal College of Music. Seduced by the rock music scene and vibrant counter culture in London at that time, he contrives to leave college and pursue a career in ‘Rock’. But some bad decisions lead him down a dark and dangerous alley, populated by drug dealers, unscrupulous managers and femme fatales. On his journey to fulfil his dreams, Daniel finds his integrity challenged, and the innocence of youth cruelly stripped away.

The connection between the album and novel, unfortunately has to remain a secret, as to divulge that information would give away a key plot line in the novel. All that can be said is that the album represents a body of work recorded in the late 60s. Created by Darryl Way, the album features a guest vocal performance from Steve Hogarth of Marillion, on the track “Morpheus”.

Jon Anderson is undoubtedly one of the most recognizable voices in music as the lead vocalist and creative force behind YES. DAN ASHLEY Releases New Cover Single “YOU’RE A FRIEND OF MINE” Together with Original Co-Writer and Grammy Winner NARADA MICHAEL WALDEN

San Francisco, CA – Accomplished singer DAN ASHLEY brings a distinctive voice and his unique life experience to the Bay Area music scene with his exceptional blend of Americana and rock and roll. Following the release of his full-length album Out There in 2021, DAN ASHLEY is excited to present his new single “YOU’RE A FRIEND OF MINE,” a duet with the legendary Grammy-award winning NARADA MICHAEL WALDEN (Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin, Sting, George Michael) on October 21, 2022. Narada originally co-wrote the song with Jeffrey Cohen for Clarence Clemons and Jackson Browne, and both the song and music video featuring actress Daryl Hannah were a huge hit in 1985.

NARADA MICHAEL WALDEN recently brought the song to DAN ASHLEY thinking he would be a natural fit for an updated version of the material and recorded this new single with him at his own Tarpan Studios. As with the original version, Narada recorded drums and vocals for the track, and appears with Dan in the official music video. All proceeds from the single will be split between the NARADA MICHAEL WALDEN FOUNDATION and Dan Ashley’s own ROCK THE CASA FOUNDATION. “I’m very proud of my friendship and brotherhood with Dan ‘Dash’ Ashley!” says Narada. “I love Dan, he’s a great human being which inspired me to record this smash song as a new duet for the Narada Michael Walden Foundation and the Rock the CASA Foundation for kids!”

“YOU’RE A FRIEND OF MINE” also features Jackson Allen (guitar), Angeline Saris (bass), Katie Walden and Nate Soulsanger (backing vocals), and Dave Ellis (saxophone). Videographer Tommy Merry shot an official music video on the same day they recorded the track at Tarpan Studios, which also features Katie Walden and her twin sister Kelly Walden along with Dan and Narada. “Narada is one of my dearest friends and an incredibly warm-hearted and talented artist and producer,” says Dan. “I’m deeply grateful for our friendship over the past many years and I’m honored to record this amazing song with him to benefit not only Rock the CASA, but the Narada Michael Walden Foundation.”

As a vocalist, DAN ASHLEY has led his highly acclaimed band for many years, headlining notable venues and opening for such great artists as REO Speedwagon, Rick Springfield, Cheap Trick, Eddie Money, Patti LaBelle, Melissa Etheridge and more. He has also shared the stage with many other consummate performers over the years including Dionne Warwick, Neal Schon (Journey), Brad Gillis (Night Ranger), and multiple Grammy winner Narada Michael Walden, among many others. Dan is regularly asked to perform the National Anthem at a variety of events, including for the NBA, MLB, NCAA, and NHL, and also recently performed alongside headliner Night Ranger in Reno, NV, and Foghat at the Ojai Nest Fest Veterans Benefit in Ventura, CA!

Singer/Songwriter Aaron Rothko To Release Introspective Second Album “Joymaker”

Aaron Rothko is a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist originally from New York, now living in New Orleans. He will be releasing his second album of introspective songs titled “Joymaker” on October 23, 2022.

Says Aaron, “The year leading up to the realization of this album was marred by grief, isolation, and illnesses both physical and mental. And yet, it is a year I look back upon incredibly fondly. It’s a year where I found an unexpected new home, falling in love with and in New Orleans, and learned more than I had in all four years of college (granted I never did the reading). ‘Joymaker’ is my way of making sense of having these incredibly positive and negative experiences in such a small span of time. The album follows no linear timeline, nor does it split this part of my life into good and bad; rather, it views it as a whole. There are no days where I only grieve, just as there are no days where I only feel secure, happy, and at home. These feelings coexist in me, they coexist in the album, and they coexist in each song itself.

This mix of powerful emotions is what led me to the idea of the ‘Joymaker.’ Someone who, even when gone, has such a strong presence and impact on one’s life, that they still bring happiness just by thinking of them. The loss of someone important can be devastating, but one’s life is better just for knowing them, and even in grief, one can still find joy. ‘Joymaker’ aims to find the beauty in these painful and difficult moments in hopes of allowing oneself some celebration as well.”

“Joymaker” is dedicated to Aaron’s late Grandmother, who was an incredibly talented artist. She was always encouraging of his pursuit in music, and proved that great art could come from anywhere. As soon as he started recording, Aaron knew he wanted to use one of her paintings as the album cover. Aaron explains, “I initially chose one of my favorite paintings of hers, a close-up of a lit match that hangs over my Grandparents’ fireplace. But I later came across the print that I ultimately chose as the cover: an image of a woman staring out the window at a pine tree. Such a simple piece, but it stuck with me. It seemed only fitting—a piece I never saw until after she died that was able to change my mind and deeply impact me. I’m still learning new things about her, and her importance and influence in my life stays constant. The design of the lettering on the cover was done by my cousin, Sean Cohen, who like our Grandmother, is also an incredibly gifted artist. We both knew that creating art, and working with one another would be the best way to honor her, and he jumped on the idea without hesitation.”

Aaron Rothko played music starting from a young age, and fell in love with songwriting as a teenager. Rothko began writing more seriously in his time at college, where he started to hone his songwriting skills and developed his own style and sound. Rothko’s music is best described as soothing and melancholy, with rich guitar sounds and heartfelt lyrics that utilize clever wordplay. ‘Joymaker’ is Rothko’s second full-length album, his first being ‘Man In The Tall Grass’ (2021), as well as a six song EP titled ‘Except/I Love You’ (2020). When not recording, Aaron is a music teacher, home gardener, and a proud dog dad. He studied Jazz Performance on Upright Bass at Vassar College, where he graduated in 2020.

In closing Aaron had these words to say about “Joymaker,” “This is an album mostly of introspection, and insight that I’ve found for myself might not be true for everyone. But I encourage everyone to do some self-reflection, and consider the ones around you. Go to therapy. Call your mother. Donate to abortion funds and vote.”
