Jon Anderson and The Band Geeks Premiere “True Messenger” Video

Following the overwhelming positive reaction to the video for “Shine On”, Jon Anderson and The Band Geeks today premiere the second video from their forthcoming album TRUE for the song “True Messenger”. “True Messenger” along with “Shine On” and album track “Thank God” have been part of the live set since the first date of the current summer tour. Additionally, one of the album’s epic tracks, “Counties And Countries” is played nightly during the intermission of the show over the venue’s PA system.

‘No Easy Road’ includes many previously unseen photographs captured by renowned photographers Jill Furmanovsky (Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin), Michael Putland (The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney), Barry Plummer (Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley) and Dick Barnatt (Alice Cooper, Rod Stewart), alongside personal photographs from the band members’ private archive plus images of rare memorabilia and tour ephemera.

Los Angeles, CA – Linda Gail Lewis, a veteran of the music scene and genuine rock royalty, is proud to announce her newest full-length studio album, Rockabilly Queen, set for release on July 26. Produced by rockabilly guitar icon Danny B. Harvey, the album contains a mix of original material written by Lewis as well as several hand-picked classics that Lewis and Harvey, along with Stray Cats drummer Slim Jim Phantom, deftly transform into fresh and exciting tracks.

One of the most poignant and powerful songs on the album, however, is Lewis’s heartfelt, emotional remembrance of her brother, rock legend Jerry Lee Lewis, who passed away in 2022. The song is called “I Knew That You Were Leaving,” and Linda’s story of how it came to be is deeply moving.

I woke up one morning, and while still half asleep, a terrible feeling came over me because I remembered that my big brother, Jerry Lee Lewis, was no longer with me. It had been about a year since he’d passed away and as I was thinking about how I wished I could just go see him one more time and this song came to me from out of nowhere. I immediately went to my piano to document it but every time I tried to sing it aloud I would start sobbing. It took many attempts to get the demo recorded. Even months later when I recorded this final version in the studio I’d have to stop singing at times because I’d start crying uncontrollably when thinking of all the good times we had together over the years.

There are many people who miss my brother Jerry Lee, and also many folks that miss their own departed family members as much as I miss my brother. I hope they all find comfort from my new single and video, “I Knew That You Were Leaving,” and realize we’re not alone.

This song accurately expresses how I feel about losing my brother and also how I felt when I first realized he was leaving us. This is my heartfelt personal tribute and my eternal memorial to the greatest big brother a girl could have, and one of the greatest talents to have ever lived.

Jerry Lee Lewis, I miss you dearly and constantly wish you were still here with me.  I’ll love you always, your sister, Linda Gail Lewis.

Renaissance, the legendary symphonic rock band featuring Annie Haslam, will be back in the US playing select dates from October 17th through October 31st. This will mark 54 years since the formation of the band and its 16th consecutive year of touring since its reactivation in 2009.

Renaissance leader and vocalist Annie Haslam remarked that “We are very proud but sad to announce our ‘In Gratitude’ Farewell Tour. Where did the time go? Looking back over the years, I believe we have made history in the worlds of Progressive and Symphonic Rock.”

The upcoming shows will include stunning arrangements of “Ocean Gypsy,” “Northern Lights,” “Forever Changing,” “Mother Russia,” “Carpet of the Sun,” “Ashes are Burning” and other favorite classics. Ms. Haslam will be joined on stage by long-time musical associate Rave Tesar on piano, along with Mark Lambert on guitars/vocals, Geoffrey Langley on keyboards/vocals, Frank Pagano on drums, percussion/vocals, and John Galgano on bass.

Annie Haslam noted that “Performing with Renaissance since 1971 has been my whole life. I still love singing these unique, surreal, dramatic and romantic songs and pairing up with some of the finest orchestras in the world. Renaissance is a band with a rich history unique unto themselves as progressive rock pioneers who rose from the ashes of the seminal UK rock band, The Yardbirds. Acclaimed for their unique blending of progressive rock with classical and symphonic influences, the band’s career has spanned fifty plus years spearheaded by the 5-octave voice of Annie Haslam and the masterful songwriting skills of Michael Dunford, John Tout, Jon Camp and Terry Sullivan. They are widely considered to be the band that most successfully and routinely utilized the sound of a full orchestra in their recordings.

The band has toured throughout the world and has performed at Carnegie Hall with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra and at the Royal Albert Hall with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Royal Chorale Society. Renaissance had a top ten hit in the UK with their song “Northern Lights” that still demands airplay to this day.

Ian Anderson’s mind as a listener, which would mature into a lifetime of format-blurring creative ingenuity, was opened when he was a mere six-year-old. By then, already relocated with his family from his birthplace in Dunfermline to Edinburgh, he heard an old family 78 rpm disc of Glenn Miller and his Orchestra’s irresistible gem of 1939, “In The Mood”.

“My father had a few treasured wartime records, mostly big-band stuff,” he told Prog magazine. “I remember having an epiphany, because ‘In The Mood’ introduces you to the elements of blues, effectively. That was my first moment of thinking: ‘Hmm, this music is something special.’”

“Since 1983, I have made a few solo albums, not as dissatisfaction with fellow musicians or the group identity but usually just to try something a bit different, whether sonically, stylistically or in terms of instrumental line-up. These records all stand out for me as being quite different from each other and in some ways demonstrate a broader depth of my songwriting. The flute instrumental Divinities record is one of my favourites to this day”.

UK Prog Legends Curved Air “The Rarities Series Box Set” Available September 20, 2024

Spirit of Unicorn Music are pleased to announce the release of “The Rarities Series Box Set” from Curved Air, which will be released on 20th September, 2024.

This 6 CD box set brings together all the CD’s previously released in the Rarities series but which have been out of print for some considerable time.  The package also includes a booklet featuring brand new sleeve notes, written by PROG magazine’s editor, Jerry Ewing.  Ewing has interviewed the band’s enigmatic and beguiling lead singer, Sonja Kristina, viewed by many as the first lady of prog;  providing a new, fresh perspective on these recordings.

Curved Air formed in 1970 and brought together the influences of rock, folk and classical music into their work, developing a fascinating and ground-breaking progression fusion sound.   They went on to become a seminal band within the British progressive rock movement who have endured the test of time and still perform live to this day.

The box set includes:

Tapestry of Propositions: An hour-long version of “Propositions”, recorded live at 14 different locations during 2013/14.

Curved Space: previously released as Francis Monkman’s “Jam” but now featuring 2 unreleased bonus tracks.

Infinity: featuring all new 2016 studio recordings.

The Second British Rock Meeting 1972: Features the only known recording of this line-up improvising. The last track is an extended jam on their hit, Vivaldi, and lasts over 30 minutes.

Live Under The Bridge: Featuring a performance of the legendary “Air Conditioning”, in its entirety.

Set to be an exciting Summer for Curved Air, July will see an acoustic line-up of the band fly to the USA and Canada  for a string of 21 live shows, as part of the Heat Of The Moment Tour alongside other progressive music greats, Asia, Focus and Martin Turner – ex Wishbone Ash.

Los Angeles, CA – For the last 50+ years, Phil Mogg has had one job: frontman for one of the greatest rock bands to ever grace the stage, the kings of British classic rock, UFO! That job has taken the London-born singer to just about every country on Earth, performing before hundreds of thousands of fans and riding the highs of chart success with singles such as “Doctor Doctor,” “Lights Out,” and “Only You Can Rock Me.”

Now, at an age when most artists would be hanging it up, Mogg has just announced the launching of a brand new venture, Moggs Motel, and a new full-length album to mark the next chapter in the historic career of this British superstar. Moggs Motel is everything a Phil Mogg and UFO fan could hope for in a new album: stellar songwriting, slick production, courtesy of bassist Tony Newtown, and unmatched musicianship, including guitar from UFO alumni Neil Carter alongside guitarist Tommy Gentry and drummer Joe Lazarus!
