Canadian Hard Rockers Thunderbird To Release Third Album Feat. Members of Bachman Turner and Lee Aaron

Canadian hard rockers Thunderbird are releasing their anticipated self-titled third album on Delinquent Records on April 25, 2018! “Thunderbird” was recorded in Vancouver BC, produced by Marc LaFrance and Kelly Stodola and mixed by famed engineer Mike Fraser.

Says lead singer & producer Marc LaFrance, “The album is like a collection of short stories. I am singing the songs as different characters, or telling their tales. A gallery of rogues from the dark side!”

Musically, the songs are inspired by classic hard rock. Heavy guitars, blistering solos, driving rhythms.

The songs were written during 2016, after the band finished their last album “Heavyweight”. Recording began for a third album late 2016 at Vancouver’s Armoury Studios with famed engineer Mike Fraser (AC/DC, Aerosmith, Van Halen). Sessions continued through the first half of 2017 at several Vancouver studios with other veteran engineers including Ken Burke, Kris Siegers and Mick Dalla-Vee. The finished album was mixed by Mike Fraser at The Armoury and mastered by Adam Ayan (Def Leppard, Foo Fighters, Queen) at Gateway Mastering.

The band’s former guitarist Rod ‘Doc’ Coogan was unable to take part this time due to other commitments, and rising young talent Brice Tabish joins Thunderbird on guitar. Rod still makes a welcome appearance with the guitar solo on opening track “Liar (Fool’s Gold)”. Guest musicians on the new album include jazz pianist Chris Gestrin, and a string section on closing track “Vampire” arranged and conducted by film composer Peter Allen.

Thunderbird features:
Marc LaFrance (Vocals/Producer)
Very experienced, well-known and highly regarded in the music industry, Marc is not only a singer but also a drummer, songwriter and producer. He records and tours internationally with Randy Bachman and Bachman Turner as well as his own band Cease & Desist. He has contributed to over 100 albums, and countless sessions on recordings by Motley Crue, David Lee Roth, Bon Jovi, The Cult, Loverboy, Glass Tiger, Alice Cooper, Blue Murder, Scorpions, Cher and many others.

Rob Becker (Bass)
Award-winning bassist Rob Becker has been an active part of the Vancouver music scene for decades and maintains a busy schedule of touring and session work. He has recorded and performed with many artists including Colin James, Patricia Conroy, Barney Bentall, Jim Byrnes, Ridley Bent and Lee Aaron to name a few. He can be seen performing regularly in the US and Europe and has recently been on stages in Scotland, England and Australia. His extensive background in playing live and in the studio, combined with formal musical training, makes Rob musically versatile.

Kelly Stodola (Drums/Producer)
Kelly is immersed in session work and live performance in many diverse styles and has been heard across North America on alternative college radio and mainstream hard rock stations as well as country television. Credits include Lauren Starchuk, Version 3, The Blue Voodoo, Featherz Edge, The Steve Sainas Band and Magnus Rising. He continues to keep a busy schedule on the Vancouver music scene and looks forward to many more years of making music.

Brice Tabish (Guitars)
Brice Tabish may be only in his mid-twenties, but knows more about classic hard rock and metal than people who were there at the time! He is a real student of the genre and lives and breathes it. Already a seasoned player on the Canadian scene, Brice tours with ‘metal queen’ Lee Aaron and has recorded with the likes of Andrew Oldham (Rolling Stones). He performs live regularly in the Vancouver area with Las Divas and the John Pippus Band.

Los Angeles – Celebrating the 40th anniversary of UK’s critically acclaimed self-titled debut record released on Polydor in 1978, Eddie Jobson is making this seminal album available on vinyl for the first time since its original release. It will be released on April 21st, and available exclusively to Record Store Day participating retailers worldwide. The record is pressed on 180 gram vinyl, and includes an 8 page full color booklet designed exclusively for this release. The album is remastered from the original tapes located at Abbey Road Studios in London, which is the same master that was used in the now out of print “Ultimate Collector’s Edition” box set that compiled all the works of UK’s 3 albums, along with rarities, live material and 5.1 versions across 18 discs.

The Music
In October 1977 the new supergroup featuring Eddie Jobson, Bill Bruford, John Wetton and Allan Holdsworth entered the rehearsal room, each armed with a panoply of musical ideas. Each song, theme, part or riff was logged in, like a jigsaw piece, and so the organizing and arranging of the individual pieces began. External expectations were high, not just for what these four individual innovators might create together, but because Trident Studios in Soho was already booked to record the results of their highly anticipated collaboration.

The music of UK would be developed over several weeks. Wetton would reintroduce “Thirty Years,” a song first tried out with the Wakeman trio; Bruford brought in some harmonic, but mostly rhythmic ideas. Holdsworth’s contributions revolved around his distinctive chord voicings, forming the foundation of such tracks as “Nevermore” and “Mental Medication.” Meanwhile, Jobson – the more formal composer of the group – brought in pages of musical notation that included the entire “In The Dead of Night” suite, minus vocal melody lines, but including “By The Light of Day” and the Zappa-influenced “Presto Vivace,” along with a complete version of “Alaska,” the verse of “Time To Kill” and half of “Nevermore.” The myriad musical ideas were painstakingly stitched together, mainly by Bruford and Jobson, but it would be Wetton’s melodic and lyrical sense that would ultimately glue the disparate stylings into something resembling cohesive songs. Notwithstanding the considerable stylistic contributions of Holdsworth and Bruford, with a full sixty percent of the new album material emanating from Jobson’s compositions, and with the addition of Wetton’s vocal melodies and lyrics, the first UK album truly marked an auspicious beginning to the highly symbiotic Jobson-Wetton writing partnership.

The “U.K.” album was recorded over a six-week period. Holdsworth’s classic guitar solo on “In The Dead of Night” was created on the fly. Wetton’s dense harmonies were carefully overdubbed over the course of many hours. Jobson created the entire electronic section of “Nevermore” on the studio’s massive ARP 2500 modular synthesizer. An amalgam of classical, jazz, rock and electronic, the first UK album was considered truly groundbreaking; Rolling Stone magazine called it “The great white hope of progressive music.”

In 2016 Rolling Stone selected the “U.K.” album as one of the Top 30 “best progressive-rock albums of all time.” Though, in a burst of collaborative brilliance, this towering lineup recorded only one album together, the pioneering musicians known as UK have still carved their place in rock history as one of the greatest progressive-rock bands of all time, and have left this classic recording as an exemplary standard for future musicians.

Says Aisles guitarist, German Vergara, “ ‘Still Alive’ is one of the most representative songs, and maybe the saddest, on our latest album “Hawaii”. Capturing that feeling of hopelessness was a challenge both for the band and for the director of the video, Bernardo Quesney. Sonically, it is different from the album version because it is much less processed. What you hear is Aisles organic live sound, just like you’d hear it at one of our concerts. Even the tempo of the song changed as a result of that search”.

The “Live from Estudio del Sur” sessions started with the video for the song ‘Clouds Motion’, and it will continue with more videos coming soon.

With four studio albums and a career spanning twelve years, Aisles have become South America’s most acclaimed prog act of the last decade. Their daring combination of rock, fusion, jazz and world music illustrates the band’s uniquely eclectic approach. The group has played in South America and Europe, and their albums have been released in Europe, the Americas, and Japan.

In 2009 their second album “In Sudden Walks” was nominated for Best Foreign Record in the Italian Prog Awards and the group was invited to open the 11th Progressive Rock Festival Crescendo in France. Following the release of Tangerine Dream’s latest studio album, Quantum Gate, Kscope are set to release the album as a 2CD set with the inclusion of the EP Quantum Key.

Quantum Gate released on September 29th 2017, to coincide and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the band, was the first studio album since the passing of Edgar Froese Tangerine Dream’s visionary founder, by the remaining band members Thorsten Quaeschning, Ulrich Schnauss and Hoshiko Yamane.

The Quantum Key EP preceded Quantum Gate, and both delivered an updated, contemporary development of their trademark sound: sequencer-driven electronica covering a wide range of moods and atmospheres from ambient soundscapes to energetic, upbeat moments. The Quantum Years material began as a concept and series of musical sketches by Froese before he passed away in 2015. Remaining band members Thorsten Quaeschning, Ulrich Schnauss and Hoshiko Yamane worked together to realize Edgar’s visions and expectations of a conceptual body of work that attempts to translate quantum physics and philosophy into music. New member Ulrich Schnauss comments: “At the moment hardly any other area of science questions our concept of reality (linearity of time etc.) as profoundly as research in Quantum physics – it’s no surprise therefore that Edgar was drawn to these ideas since he had always aimed at reminding listeners of the existence of ‘unopened doors’.”

This version of Quantum Gate with the inclusion of Quantum Key EP, brings together Edgar’s vision as a 2disc set for the first time.

Tangerine Dream have been a fundamental influence on electronic and progressive music since their formation in West Berlin, 1967. Inspiring genres, musicians and other art forms, from The Future Sound of London to Porcupine Tree, the widely popular TV show Stranger Things (for which their music also featured in) to seminal video game Grand Theft Auto V (for which they helped to write the soundtrack). The group have also received seven Grammy nominations, written over 100 studio albums and were led by Edgar Froese, who developed an instantly recognisable synth-based instrumental music based on a meditative musical experience that came to prominence in the 70s and 80s.

The current line-up are currently supporting their latest material with a string of headline events in Europe, including a two-night booking at London’s Union Chapel plus the opening event for Amsterdam’s cutting edge electronic music summer festival, Dekmantel.

Flash Vocal Legend Colin Carter To Release Debut Solo Album “ONE”

Best known as the lead vocalist for Prog icons Flash featuring guitar legend Peter Banks, Colin Carter is releasing his debut solo album titled “ONE”; A diverse collection of light and dark electric rock, with a little funk, some nightclub swing, an angular Dylanesque shuffle, a 30’s Berlin cabaret song, a grand dramatic rock ballad, a Lennon-like lullaby and some flat out driving rock and more.

Says Colin, “After years of living in some of the major cities of the world, I decided to head north to escape city life for a while. Now I’m in the coastal range of Oregon, 15 miles from the Pacific where the maritime climate, the cliffs and coastlines, remind me of the Cornish coast in the UK.”

WRITING AND RECORDING.

“Without the noise and distractions of the city, I’ve been able to focus on the songwriting and recording process here. I do a lot of my writing on multitrack recorders, building layers of overdubs, trying to sculpt the sounds and ideas I have in my head. I never planned to make this CD, I just kept writing and recording my song demos. Eventually, however, I decided it was time to share them with the world.

“I usually begin with a simple guitar and vocal phrase, and throw it down quickly on the recorder while it still has the idea and concept that I am imagining. Then I walk away and come back in a day or so to see if it still holds up. If it does, I then begin to add parts to build and strengthen the idea. Later, I take the guitar/drum machine demo track and add live drums and bass, a that really moves the song into a whole new realm. It breathes life into it. That then gives me fresh ideas and inspiration to do more with the song and track.

“I’ve worked on this CD project with musicians from the UK, New York and Oregon, old friends and new. Their names are on the package. Many of influences that I’ve picked up along the way, like blues, rock, soul, folk and more, including some later somewhat atypical ideas, can be found sneaking their way into my songs and lyrics and arrangements. I am the sum of my experiences. I am to blame!

“Working with some good musician friends, and skilled support in the studio at Inner Sanctum in Coos Bay, I’ve taken this collection of song ideas from basic sketches to fully fledged recordings, trying to keep the essence of the original concept alive as I go. Here they are, in a ten song CD, Colin Carter ‘ONE’.”

Two of Colin’s long time friends play most of the bass and drums on these tracks. Drummer Mike Hough, who’s played  in Flash and various lineups since, that featured musicians from Yes, Foreigner, Savoy Brown Blues Band, Johnny Winter etc., and bass guitarist Clint Bahr, who’s played and recorded with musicians from The Rolling Stones, King Crimson, Jethro Tull and many more. Joining Colin on several tracks are new musician friends from the Oregon Coast. Doro Reeves on keyboards, Tom Beckstrom on drums, and Michael Cardell on hand drums.

Colin Carter and former Yes guitarist Peter Banks formed the British progressive rock band Flash, with bassist Ray Bennett, and drummer Mike Hough. The band released three albums, “Flash”,  “ Flash In the Can” and “Out of Our Hands”.

Flash was signed to Sovereign/EMI  in the UK and Capitol Records in the USA. Their self-titled debut album “Flash”, sold in excess of 100,000 copies. Flash toured multiple times across North America, Continental Europe, Australia, and their native UK, before disbanding.

Colin Carter and Ray Bennett reformed Flash in 2010, with Bennett on guitar, Wayne Carver (bass, vocals), Mark Pardy (drums), and Rick Daugherty (keyboards). They made their official reunion debut headlining the International ProgDay Festival in Chapel Hill, North Carolina in 2010.

Peter Banks’ passing in March 2013 occurred just as he was finishing up production of a live Flash album featuring Colin Carter and the original line up – “Flash In Public”, released on AdequateSounds.

Also in 2013, Colin Carter and Ray Bennett were completing the album “Flash Featuring Ray Bennett & Colin Carter”,  released on Cleopatra Records.

Now, much to the excitement of mainstream rock fans and prog aficionados worldwide, Colin Carter is releasing his debut solo album “ONE”!
